Visited La Rochelle, and Cognac Price of room was dearer than booking price.
Short stay in saintes, lovely city. More basic than expected, stayed previously at Formula 1 next door and expected more for extra money.
Nothing. The room was supposed to sleep three plus a baby, but was tiny. The third bed pulled out from under one of the single beds and already contained an earwig! Once pulled out there was no room to pass to get to the bathroom and once the baby cot was up there was no free floor space at all. The light was hanging off the wall and the room was noisy. This was the most expensive of three hotels we stayed in and by far the worst.
The staff was polite and came right away when we lost our electricity. The restaurant was good for a hotel of this class.
Reasonable value and cater for pets No non-smoking option
Didn't stay long enough to judge, we chose it because there were rooms available for the date we had chosen
Food in restaurant was good. Location.
Easy to get to from motorway Had asked for a cot not supplied. The advert for the hotel said there was a children's playground this did not exist. Room was tiny.
A typical motel, great for a stopover, right by motorway. Clean, very helpful staff and tea/coffee making facilities. Excellent buffet for evening meal and good breakfast.
Convenient to motorway and easy to find, clean and functional, a good hotel for an overnight. Did not get the room type booked
We had a wonderful stay, very nice room, affordable priceshelpfull staff and a good restaurant
An attractive rural hotel close to a small town with a fine walk along the river The food in the restaurant was a disappointment
A nicely appointed room, windows that opened wide, lovely large comfortable bed, high quality all-cotton bedlinen, and a superb shower; all very clean and very quiet; free wifi an excellent addition; hotel has off-street parking and the location is ideal for anyone wanting to explore La Rochelle, Saintes, Cognac, or the surrounding region. The food was good, but the set dinner menu at the hotel restaurant was expensive for the limited options it offered; the town has a good bakery for anyone wanting an alternative to the hotel's breakfast, but is without alternate restaurant facilities; that said, there are numerous restaurants in St-Jean-d'Angely, only a few miles away.
Quite typical french hotel in nice surroundings ,Good food at reasonable prices No lift to first floor could be difficult for people with large luggage but proprieter would carry cases if desired.
old mid 19th century house, recently refurbished, very good breakfast the restaurant offers a fixed menu if prior reservation is made. no other places to eat in the village
We liked the hotel location overlooking beautiful grounds. The hotel has a good, but limited and repetitive menu. Also, we found it difficult to carry cases passed a door at the top of the stairs, which opens over the stairs instead of the landing.
The welcome was as warm as the hotel, which in January was very important. We loved this hotel. Nothing.
Spotlessly clean, well appointed, individual and extremely comfortable and welcoming I did not dislike anything. An excellent little hotel.
Lovely setting. Good welcome. Menu presented to us in English which is always helpful and food was good. Nothing really to see or do in village itself.
Ease of location, informality, excellent food, peaceful setting, and genuine welcome extended by everyone we met.
Friendly receptionist; very central location for sightseeing in Saintes Price is a bit pushy
It was very convenient for the town I was visiting with my brother. It was also convenient for travelling around the area due to it's closeness to the motorway. The cleanliness of the hotel was very impressive - everything was spotless and looked new. A car park would have been useful but there was a free town carpark just down the road.
The location was good and the staff friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was basic and a bit expensive for what it was No bar
Staff very friendly and welcoming. Ideal central location in Saintes. We were given, at no extra cost, a room with a spacious enclosed balcony with a fine view of the town centre- turning our room into a spacious suite effectively. Overall the hotel was unbelievably good value. Tea/coffee facilities in room would have allowed us to fully enjoy the balcony with a view.
cleanliness and very quiet despite being on a main roundabout
The owner/staff were extremely friendly and helpful, going so far as to personally drive us to the train station on our last day. Language was only a slight problem, and the hotel is situated 1/2 block from the Tourist Information office. I recommend this hotel very highly!
Very friendly and helpful owner. Great Location. Secure parking. Simple but comfortable rooms.Excellent breakfast. There is no restaurant but the owner recommended several nice ones nearby. Great Value.
central location, huge balcony/conservatory with a great view
The concierges were very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and quiet despite being in the middle of a big city. The continental breakfast was very good. The shower, as in a lot of hotels we have used, was hand held, and as we shower more than bath a bit inconvenient
The Visit was not a holiday as I was visiting my seriously ill father in hospital
Good breakfast and helpful staff. Good access to nearby restaurants Location not suitable for travellers without car.
Just a place to sleep one night during travel.
Very friendly staff, speaking english very well. You can have a good meal (menu) in the restaurant for a very fair price!
We arrived late and I was tired having driven for the first time in France. Although the restaurant was about to close, we were able to eat and I was so grateful for that.
Clean, good bathroom and bedroom space. Staff good. Tea/coffee facilities appreciated. Breakfast not good value for money as limited selection - usually wider range in these hotels. We paid Euros 5 for similar breakfast at another hotel on the same trip.
Excellent for an overnight stay None
We stayed in eight Campaniles...This was our first Campanile we were so please with our choice the bedroom/bed was spotless floors were clean and the air conditioner worked without stale air blowing in our face at night the food in the restaurant was excellent this Campanile spoiled us as we did not have the same quality with others throughout our stay in France. We were very disappointed in the bathroom it was not up to the quality of the rest of the Room/Hotel it had huge holes in the wall around the shower and mold around the tub... The sink, and toilet were spotless.
Ok for an overnight stay but not suitable for longer holiday in my opinion
Food was good, staff were helpful. Black mold in corner of bedrooms, rooms damp and very basic. General condition of buildings was poor.
I would´t recomend it: too much money for what you get. Location on a suburb spot, near warehouses and industries.
Quality/price ratio Bed was pretty soggy - new mattresses needed?
Efficient check in/out, friendly staff
The staff made my stay enjoyable as they were very helpful and always very curtious.
The location was very good. The bathroom facilities were below what I expected. Being allocated 1 croissant for breakfast was not acceptable.
Good arival process very helpful staff Parking outside rooms noisy in early morning
We thought this was too basic for us, it was like living in a garage. Would hate to stay there in winter! Won't choose a Balladins Express again.
Good location and friendly staff No particular dislikes
The friendly, helpful, approach of the manager. the clean room
Hotel is situated very close to city centre - some traffic noise but essentially a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel with efficient staff.
Very basic and quite noisy at times. Room very small but clean.
Very handy location to break journey if travelling through France down towards the Pyrenees. Hotel just off the motorway. Very friendly and helpful owner. Good breakfast (6.50 E). Free secure parking. Hotel not expensive but rather basic; rooms are in small chalets. Can certainly recommend it for overnight stay. Rooms were small but clean. Shower too basic.
Friendly and prompt attention from the persons in charge. Free internet availability is a plus. A little bit far away from the center of the closest town.
Clean and nicely situated. Room was very good and food very acceptable No
Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
The friendliness of the staff and the fact that I had free access to emials. No
Very central location. Quiet curtyard setting, with the exception of Saturday night. Car parking facility. Friendly staff. Carrying luggage to second floor on a steep and narrow staircase.
We stayed in this hotel for one night on our way down to the south of France. It is located in the old city with many resturants close by. Easy access from the motorway. Will stay there again.
hotel staff very helpful, room plenty adequate for a short stay, central location.
It's position in the town
Central to Old Town No lift
The Hotel was ideally situated. We liked the decor and appreciated the fact that the hotel was quiet and the staf non obtrusive. The secure parking was a bonus and breakfast was also good No tea or coffe facilities either in the room or in the hotel in the evening.
Walking distance to Main tourist precinct. Free Parking & Free Wi Fi internet
Easy to book, clean and convenient as a stop during our journey from St Malo to Bordeaux. In view of the cost of the hotel, I do not draw attention to any faults.
Very good breakfast, clean and bright rooms. The family room we had was huge ( 2 adults 2 boys aged 14 and 11)
Very impressed by cleanliness and layout of hotel. Reception staff very competent and friendly.
Basic hotel set in a zone with businesses, other similar hotels etc - ideal location and price for overnight stay whilst visiting Saintes, Cognac or various chateaux in the area. Hotel is 10k from Saintes so not practical to walk especially at night. There are a coule of restaurants close by the hotel but good choice if you drive into Saintes - we did not have a problem parking but imagine in July/August parking could be a problem in Saintes. Hotel has large, free car park, basic rooms, only one medium sized towel per person, but clean and with small t.v. Bathroom clean and adequate. Hotel breakfast very good value. Definitely a one or two night maximum stay hotel - area convenient but unattractive. Would have been good to have more than one towel per person in the bathroom.
Internet provision and the TV area in the reception was very useful. Very friendly, helpful staff. The room was refreshed daily to a high standard. Did not expect to find hairdrier or tea/coffee making facilities - this was not stated on the website - nice surprise No
We found the staff friendly and helpful and there was a good continental breakfast ready for us early in the morning
This hotel was a good value for the money. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel was surprisingly far from the city center of Saintes. From other reviews we thought it would be walking distance, but it was at least a few km!! We ended up driving in, but would have preffered a hotel closer to the restaurants, etc.
The Manager and staff at this hotel were absolutely fantastic. They could not have been more helpful and even though it was only an overnight stay made us feel really welcome. This is not a luxury hotel and does not pretend to be, but it has all the facilities needed for a short stay. It is not very easy to find as the signs are really small guiding you towards it, but is worth it when you get there. We would absolutely recommend it.
The hotel was near to Saintes, but in a very quiet location, so it was much more peacful than hotels in the centre of the town
Very central, clean and cheap. The decor is very tired, but it is absolutely adequate.
The restaurant adjoining the hotel was fab. Wonderful English speaking staff and great food. Saintes fantastic place to stay. Charged 7 euros for kids breakfast - they only ate cereal.
friendly nature of people, energy conservation
well situated downtown and quiet, friendly atmosphere, comfort is modest but sufficient for weekend trip. doors to corridor were not tight allowing people passing by to be heard
People very nice Need internet access
Old fashioned hotel needing upgraded, very central to town, should include breakfast in price. Price of breakfast not included
Staff were friendly, room was ok The biggest put off was the entrance way and the dreadful green carpet, when we got to the room it was actually ok. Breakfast room was nice and breakfast was great, just the hallway tainted the stay, good location though, quiet but close to centre, staff were very helpful.
Clean, friendly hotel. The noise at night which is not the fault of the hotel but it was bad.
Central location very clean and tidy
Spacious clean room, a pleasant surprise at the end of a dull corridor. Adequate breakfast. Great location. Friendley staff. Would recommend to anyone passing through Rochefort. Don't be put off by the looks from outside. -
The staff was very friendlly and helpful.
central position, free parking, good breakfasts. No
The location, the grounds and the swimming pool area. The rooms were very corporate and so were a disappointment compared to the grandeur of the building overall
Quiet in a good location. The room was large and comfortable, if a little dated in terms of decoration. The air conditioning was effective and quiet. We found the welcome a little lacking in warmth
Comfortable room, ask for the first floor front if you want a balcony, clean and good size. bathroom a good size and clean. Ideal for a short stay. We did not eat in the hotel but the restaurant menu looked very nice. Short walk into the lovely town of Rochefort. Rooms at the front are facing a road so a little noisy. Rooms at the back face a back lane.
For the price a very good hotel, I cannot fault the hotel in any way, good clean & friendly hotel. No, all positive.
Nearness to La Rochelle and the Ile de Re We thought it a little tired and bland. Could do with redecoration. Also our hotel room smelled strongly of cigarettes. Not very pleasant.
The friendly welcome, courteous staff. Ideal position for purpose of visit The weather was very hot during our visit. Air conditioning would have been very welcome.
Near to town...I was visiting friends in Echillais and Tonnay Charente and did not want to rent a car on the days they could not spend time with me. I was able to walk to the Corderie, L'Hermione, Atelier Begonia,Musee de Pierre Loti, to lunch in town etc. Dinner at the Hotel one night was good, buffet breakfast good as well. Service in the restaurant was excellent. More soundproofing so that my phone calls did not bother others. My family was in a different time zone and to speak with them I had to call later in the evening. Thicker towels and updated bedding would be nice but I was comfortable without extra luxuries. Also because I did not want to travel with a laptop, a small area with a couple of computers for guests to use would be helpful. I had to walk to the Cybercafe, not always convenient in terms of hours it was open.
Excellent evening menu with interesting selection of dishes. Shower over the bath with shower head that would not stay put and showered most of the bathroom.
There is no free WIFI
The hotel stay was pleasant. The breakfast was reasonable.Only 5 mins from centre of town. We'd stay there again -Irish family with 3 Kids -
It was very convenient and easy to find and it was good we could have a family room for our 2 children.
location and design no air con - it was hot 90+ degrees. And very noisy from kitchen ventilation shaft next to our room
The hotel was well situated in the middle of town, staff were extremely friendly and hotel well kept. The hotel was fine, Rochefort on the other hand we found very expensive and quiet, but we we're only passing through on our way to Spain so it was ideal
Good location, nice hotel and nice staff Be ware of the stairs.
The staff went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. It had all the comforts of a large, chain hotel (full bar, breakfast buffet, gifts/postcards available at reception) but with the personal service of a small, family owned hotel.
Delightful small hotel in a gorgeous location (historic town of Rochefort). The generous buffet breakfast featuring home-made preserves and yoghurt was an excellent start to the day.
Perfect value fro little money. A pearl amongst the many hotels. The staff is friendly and breakfast better than in most 4star hotels. Room super clean also the bathroom.
Rest. not open even though hotel was full. Normally very good on weekdays. The only reason to stay there.
A very clean and welcoming hotel. The evening meal was well cooked and the service excellent. We did have some problems finding the hotel as the signs seemed to stop and then we eventually found it by driving round. PS we do not use SatNav.
Friendly and helpful staff. Easy to get into Saintes by car. Fresh oranges to squeeze for juice at breakfast. Not easy to find if you don't approach from a10. Motel type hotel might not suit everyone. Tiny shower room, very dark wall tiles made it feel even smaller. No wifi in room, but could pick up in common areas.
friendly helpfull staff
Security of vehicles, access to outside space from room as traveling with our dog The restaurants last orders were 9pm and as we had difficulty locating the hotel arrived late and were unable to eat. Thank goodness for McDonalds
Easy to find, rooms adequate for over night stay. We had small dog so verandas were great for taking her out
We used the hotel as a 1 night stopover and it was excellent for this. The room decor is dated and the family room we had was very cramped
I would classify this hotel as a roadside stopover. As such itis very convenient if you do not wish to go into a town. Very isolated with nothing within walking distance. The restaurant served a very good meal but I felt it was overpriced by about 20%
The fact that there was a restaurant nearby. The fact that the shower had to be held by hand to be used as there wasn't anywhere to hook it and the bed was very small. The Bar didn't even open for guests.
Easy to find. Clean room. Good breakfast. No non smoking room.
Situated just outside the main centre of Saintes on main link road to the town. Pleasant staff. Room was comfortable and set in separate accommodation wing from reception area. Good breakfast. La Boucherie restaurant next door for those not wanting to drive in to Saintes to eat out. Good value.
helpful staff located too far out of town
Very nice staff and helpful accepts dogsRoom small but comfy No coffee/tea facilitiesNo english sat tv channel.
Friendly staff and excellent breakfast.
The maneger was exceptionally helpful. Noisy because of situation by main roundabout. Ask for room at the back!
Good location Large spider in the room!
