Good food, good sized room with bath
Matthew, the manager, was an excellent host. He was businesslike, friendly and very helpful. He gave us perfect directions to Stonehenge, and packed a picnic breakfast for us when we had to leave early to go to Heathrow for a flight. The food in the restaurant was outstandingly good, excellent lamb, mashed potatoes, and bar-b-q wings! The beer was local and delicious. The staff were all very gracious. The rooms were handsome and bright, very clean, with a complete tea service and waters, both plain and carbonated, for the guests in each room. None. Except for some loud traffic on the road at night. Very minor.
The room was extremely comfortable- we stayed in the Wilton room and it has a wonderful deep bath, fab comfy bed , nice and warm but fan in cuboard if u need it cool. Amazing choice of brekfast from full English to scrambled eggs and salmon. It was top class Nothing
On arrival the staff greeting was exceptionally friendly. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We ate a bar snack later in the evening which was of a very high standard.. We slept well in the lovely bedroom. At breakfast there was a first class menu with numerable choices, ours was cooked to perfection and served well. No there was not one thing we could fault about the Hotel
We had a very lous neighbour that kept us awake for most of the night and the bed in our room was tilted at an angle which made it difficult for us to get comfortable
The breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. I didn't think that the room was worth the amount of money we paid.Quite small and no sofa/ seating at all.
The location was great - away from the city and staff were so helpful and friendly. The road was quite busy.
The staff was so excellent all of them very friendly, the food was absolutely delicisious, breakfest to die for and the rooms were very nicely decorated. I did love my stay and would definitely recommend it to anybody. Thank you for pleasant stay. :-) Everything was perfect
Homely atmosphere, good food, good beer.
Beautiful location, lovely building. Staff extremely helpful. Comfortable bed. Riverside views.
The central location in the city The noise from the beer garden on Saturday evening
The convenience, food and size of Room 302 with bath was excellent
Great position inn the city centre - good food in the bar and a good breakfast. Rooms are redecorated and mave a modern cosy feel. There can be a bit of late night noise are people leave the bar at the weekend .
Friendly helpful staff .clean comfortable room.Tea and coffee provided in room. Good Location Little noisy in the early hours,
Mold in shower, no phone in room, poor heating, poor wifi
Being very central
Excellent receptionist Breakfast service too slow - no time for full breakfast as had train to catch. Breakfast late to start at 7-30 for business guests. Room door rattled.
Its actually a pub with bedrooms really, with a disco that goes on til 2am on a Saturday night! However, if you get a room at the back its quiet enough to sleep Disco til 2am
The owner was very helpful in helping me figure out how to get around London as there was an Underground strike. Certainly not something she had to do given I was staying in Salisbury. The breakfast was good. Free wi-fi is a good thing. Location was convenient for the cathedral and not too far from the train station either. Not the hotel's fault I suppose, but if I'm able to reserve the room with Amex, I ought to be able to pay with Amex. The windows are old and so its like the people on the street are in your room, which probably isn't an issue in non-street facing rooms. The knobs on the doors are impossible to operate, which I mentioned to the owner and its on their list to replace. Would like to have been able to get the wi-fi in the room and not just in the downstairs common area.
Friendly staff, historic building, quiet surroundings
Really fabulous stay. Would definitely go again.
Foog and service Excellant and comfortable relaxing room Tea and coffee facilities in the room were a little odd.
We had a fantastic time & the staff were all very helpful for a young family
Friendly helpful staff. Clean comfortable bedroom. Pleasant dining room and lounge, food good excellent breakfast. As stairs to bedrooms very steep need to fix the bannister as it wobbles. Serviettes on the table would be nice without having to ask for them at each meal time.
The staff were extremely friendly and said to treat the hotel as my own home. Breakfast was great Bar was only open between 7pm and 9pm. It would have been nice if it was open for longer as there was no where to sit and relax with a drink after dinner other than your own room.
Nice room. Nice rural location. None really. T.V. could have been a bit bigger. ( If I was being super critical )
Great Room and amenities, scenic location Restaurant closes early
The room was very clean. The breakfast was very poor as was the service at reception.
We were upgraded to an excellent room, when the staff found out, that there were not the requested bed for a child.
Breakfast buffet, hotel peaceful during our visit
friendly reception staff, great open fires in reception/bar. Room too hot with no way of cooling other than opening windows
The bed was very comfortable, the room large and nicely equipped with a small settee and coffee table and a modern television. We were served in a friendly and efficient manner at dinner. Breakfast was delivered to our room on time. Centrally located. The room was shabby with ill-fitting carpets, bed hangings falling down and light bulbs not working. Although other rooms had air-conditioning, ours didn't. The shower didn't work properly. The quality of the food at dinner and breakfast was disappointing.
The room service food was good. The hotel is rather stuck in a timewarp and needs updating. The staff were not particularly friendly and the atmosphere is not welcoming.
Efficient service in the dining room
The location of this hotel is excellent with reasonably priced carparking. Our room was surprisingly large and the decor was very pleasant. The pull out sofa bed provided for our daughter was very uncomfortable. It was very hard and every spring could be felt! The bathroom was a bit too small, especially when compared to the spacious room.
The room was very good. Breakfast was lovely and the staff very helpful No
bed was comfortable. nice building. breakfast was nice the service at dinner was poor and the restaurant manager was defensive as to why the meal was not up to scratch. they did not have what we wanted, the service was slow, quality of meat poor, with the excuse that the head chef was not working that evening and they had lots of room service to attend to. Also the bedroom was extremely noisy and the decor was very tired
Lovely room. Very friendly staff. Excellent service and breakfast We booked very last minute and they didn't seem to be expecting us. Bar menu fairly plain. Evening food ok but not brilliant.
Excellent stay in a well apponted room. Very good food. Ideal for a quiet relaxing stay.
very good food is fab
Staff were over streached on the Friday evening but sill managed to provied a professional service and a smile. Room was clean and well presented.
extremely friendly and warm staff not applicable
Very friendly staff, rooms are individual and to a very high standard. No bad points.
Smart rural dining pub with food above normal pub standards The rooms are up a narrow twisting stair which is awkward with large/heavy cases.
It was very good value for money. The room was clean, nicely decorated. The staff were friendly and attentive. I'd stay there again. No complaints at all
Location, courtyard nice except..., price not unreasonable. Feel duped. Booked a "historical" room based on a picture of a charming room offered when booking. Got to room and it was a B minus take on modern. Asked at desk and was told all the rooms had been renovated, they were updating the website. Too late. False advertising. Internet horrible to the point of being useless, rooms very hot in summer. Kegs and chairs stacked/stored in the courtyard ruin the charm and ambiance. Shocked at the five star rating. Would hate to see an even four star property...
Attractive building and courtyard; helpful staff. None
Close to the Town Centre, very clean hotel with attentive staff. Food was reasonably good. Brakfast was great. Hotel is on a cross roads and it would appear near Bars and clubs, so at around 2pm it can be quite noisy. Room 84 either has the main water or sewage down pipe and was very noisy at times.
Enthusiasm of young staff Some of the young staff needed training in finesse at waiting at tables, also sometimes their facility in English was not the best
Very friendly staff, made to feel welcome, highly recommended hotel. Key cards for access to room, technology that doesnt work!! Twice had a wasted trip to room only to return to reception to have the card replaced. Get rid of this system it is infuriating & spoils a superb hote.
Help from staff, location of hotel, the fact that it was 800 years old. Room was a bit small.
excellent location, very romantic room, charming staff + excellent food in the restaurant
Room and service was excellent. Food was delightful. Close to everything we would need, ie bus/train station and shopping. Bed was hard and the pillows felt like they had got mixed up with sand bags.
Location is marvelous. The atmosphere is also nice. When we took a bath, hot water didn't come out quite enough. It took ages to fill the tab. It's a bit annoying to unlock the door of the entrance to the accomodation area every time.
Cozy and charming hotel with ancient roots in local history. Attentive staff. Great location. Had no noise problems. Dinner was a little hit-or-miss; chicken dish was excellent, fish dish very ho-hum.
Breakfast fire alarm going off in the early hours
The relaxed friendliness of our hosts. Excellent breakfast . Overall 100% satisfaction. Coming home at the end of it !
everything. the place was beautiful.(centrally located to Salisbury and the New Forest and only 30 mins away from the sea!) The owners David & Lizzie were very welcoming and extremely helpful, The food was fantastic. Rooms gorgeously decorated and well sized. n/a
Very comfortable and friendly welcome. All small details thought about for the room and the breakfast was amazing.
Friendliness of staff No
Comfortable, clean & homely. Helpful staff with good ideas of things to do & places to go. Ideally situated for many interesting areas.
Lizzie and David have been the friendliest B&B people on our trip. Breakfast excellent, room equipped with an eye fro the detail. Swimming pool and terrace in the garden were a surprise.
The fabulously warm welcome. I instantly felt at home. Would strongly recommend it as a place to stay.
The friendly and helpful nature of the staff to ensure you had a wonderful stay.
relaxed atmosphere and v pleasant and helpful hosts.
We were made to feel so welcome, really enjoyed our stay. Will definitely return.
Quieter than expected, particulalry at night.
staff were very obliging. It is like a family get together ! Food was good. outdoor area large. Rooms had charachter and we were very comfortable. We were offered a four poster room at no extra cost!!! It was lovely. Wide variety of visitors and age groups, ie. couples, fishermen, buisinessmen, tourists made the stay interesting. This is our second visit on our way to Dorset. Have recommended it . No extractor fan in bathroom.
The pleasant welcoming staff and the quite extensive menu. Nothing at all.
The welcome we received from the staff was excellent, our room was clean and comfortable and the food was very good. There weren't any bad points.
Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was also good. I would stay again. Noisy walkway to rooms.
clean freindly and good food the walls in the rooms were thin therefore you could hear everything from the next room
Beautiful old building full of character. Lovely setting in Stockbridge, would stay there again if ever in that area. Staff helpful and pleasent. the bathroom sink was not cleaned on a daily basis and no cleaning products were available. After 4 days of shaving it was a bit gross. Little choice of beer if you are not a real ale fan and the wine was very over priced. Must be stressed that you book in for a meal if you wish to eat there, food is good and it is a very popular, being a resident doesn't guarentee a table
A warm and friendly welcome by the staff and first class service. A lovely location all adds to an excellent stay. Fully recommended.
convenient location, easy parking, surprisingly quiet although it is on a roundabout, helpful and interested staff
Friendly staff, comfortable bed Despite having booking confirmation from the internet the White Hart had not made a reservation for us (luckily they had a spare room available). Shower was dated and could have been cleaner.
coffee & tea in your room for your use great as we arrived at 1am.
Very good staff. Central location. Car Park
The reception staff were excellent. The drinks were expensive at the bar - £10 for 3 tea's and a coffee.
The staff were excellent. The food was very good, beautifully presented with a high level of cleanliness and comfort. I could not fault it.
breakfast cushions on the bed didnt look clean
The day staff were excellent and made us feel very welcome. A lovely modern feel to the hotel and room facilaties were excellent. A very comfortable stay at a good discounted rate. Not enough car parking spaces. Night reception not available to answer for room service, physically went to reception no-one at the desk. Resturant - Not a lot of room in the buffet area.
comfortable room, pleasant staff, excellent breakfast, convenient location for town our booking had not registered on their system despite my e-mailed confirmation, however it was dealt with efficiently on our arrival;disappointed with the swimming pool which was more akin to a child's paddling pool for one
Friendly staff. Good food and excellent facilities.
Inability to deal with two complaints about the room adequately or to compensate for these
Your Hotel was very friendly, clean and your staff were very attentive. Bar was very busy at times, felt the staffing level at these times were a bit down, causing embarrasment to your staff who were doing their best to support your guests and keep the beer flowing
Only an overnight stay so , comfortable room and attentive staff only one niggle - no hairdryer inthe room (or not in an obvious place)
Not an hotel , just some rooms attached to a restaurant. Not very professional in my opinion. Internet access only in 2 rooms. Small rooms, small bathroom. Poor communications with customers. Not recommended unless staying at restaurant and planning to drink.
The staff are friendly and helpful, room was comfortable and the restaurant was good. Visitors need to be aware that they cant checkin between 3pm and 6pm, because the hotel is linked to restaurant opening hours. Also, the free wifi didnt reach to the room I was staying in.
excellent food, helpful staff bedroom was very cramped
Parking was a problem 1st night
Breakfast was a bit sparse if you didn´t eat meat
No main light in the room, one poor light in bathroom not the best of beds
Excellent food and first class service from staff
The hotel was conveniently situated for a wedding reception which I was attending.
The close proxity to the wedding attending and it was a quiet . The restaurant was clean and the breakfast was good. The bedroom was rather small and two people were unable to move around the bed within the room at the same time!
Very helpfull staff, and excellent evening dinner, also liked the unusual design if the hotel and rooms.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The decor and cleanliness of the room was acceptable but not exceptional. The standard of food was good but expensive. In summary I would say that we enjoyed our stay but would have expected more for our money
The breakfast was very nice and the decor of the bar area was modern and fitting. There is no gym, you cannot call an exercise bike and some weights at the side of the swimming pool a gym. The treadmillls were not working and looked like they had not been for a while. Also the golf is not at The hotel, this is very misleading. It's a 10 min drive away at a private golf course, which closed at 5pm. We tried to use the driving range but they would not switch the lights on so had to take the clubs back. Overall a very dissapointing stay at Marwell !!!
It was very different, close to Winchester but in the country, much nicer than a Holiday Inn and cheaper. Excellent breakfast, snack menu not so good Room was too hot for comfort
Hotel staff and manager very friendly and helpful. Menu could be changed daily.
Great location and refreshingly different Although excellent the restaurant is a little pricey.
The beds are very comfortable The bar is extreme;y expensive . It cost over £10 for two drinks
Friendly staff, well laid out hotel and very good facilities. Excellent breakfast. lack of choice at the bar in terms of draught drinks , no cider on tap and only one ale. Not a major issue but would of been nice to have a choice instead of tiny bottles of cider at big bottle prices!
The hotel is novel with it's jungle theme, proximity to Marwell Zoo and the surrounding woodland and chalet style accommodation. The room was large and comfortable. The decor was a little tired and the bathroom well-worn. But it was clean.
The comfort of a good hotel with good staff who were efficient, friendly and made me feel at ease - I do not normally use hotels but it was the venue for my daughter's wedding reception No
Relaxing and very central for shopping. NA
location The hotel was dirty, no air conditioning and expensive. The kettle was missing from the room and the curtains were held back with a safety pin which cut my finger!
Altogether a very charming and unusual hotel. Very friendly staff and high attention to details. The long walk from the Car Park - over 10mins walk with luggage. The cooked breakfast, although lovely, was a little small. And kept awake by talking on the first night until 2.30am and by another guest at 3am the next evening walking through and banging doors! Arghhhh!! But this did not put us off our stay, but think the price could be a little lower.
the quantness of the place, floors and walls sloping in all direction, which is not suprising for a building over 400 years old. Very poor value for money, no services, reception closed @ 1800pm, no hotel lounge as such, only a bar/resteraunt.
Friendly staff and a great ability to fulfil all our needs! I booked the hotel initially for my wedding night! We ended up having our wedding reception there as well and was a fabulous day, food and service was great and couldnt ask for any better - Big thank you to the hotel!
If you happen to be traveling to salisbury and want to tour the cathedral, you can't get a better location as it is right across from the entrance to the grounds. The staff were very friendly and competent, the rooms were well maintained and the bathrooms were spacious and very clean. But this inn is very old, the rooms are very tight, and it just isn't that comfortable. We did not feel there was adequate value for our rate of GBP100/night (jul09).
Location. Staff made a real effort to be helpful. No telephone in room. No explanation of use of 4 keys or how to lock room. Locked in the hotel when all staff went off for part of Sunday. The low service level does not reflect the high price. The operation seemed rahter amateur in terms of customer service.
Clean and tidy with the only non-euclidean staircase in existence.
Nothing is good - have maybe once been a charming pub with rooms upstairs. Receive your guests friendly with respect. Our booking though booking.com - the hotel only had 1 room booked even I had a mail with a confirmation for 2 rooms. Water was dripping from the ceiling when it rained. Due maintenance of the rooms and restaurant, make fresh food etc etc…..
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant for both brekfast and dinner was excellent if a little expensive for the dinner. No phones in the rooms. No room service. No shower caps in bathroom. It was a lovely hotel for a break but not for business use. I was hoping to recommend this hotel for business use but without the first 2 facilites above I am unable to do so.
Over all 80% enjoyable, staff good Very few parking places,no breakfast
Poor and shabby, tired old place - was up for sale and I can see why
The only negative would be the lack of hooks to hang your towels on in the bathroom.
Very good city center hotel good location very good home cooked food easy too find some parking at hotel
Very clean. Friendly staff Can't think of any!
Near the centre. The heating system not heat at night.
The live music in the bar downstairs was great. The room was really nice as well. The shower was A little loud so I couldn't rest while my partner showered, but not a big deal.
Easy access from the centre of town. Not very clean, shower was unserviceable.
Friendly, Really helpfull, Localized close to the main places.
Clean modern bar / restaurant. Convenient town, cathedral and shops. Parking. Over 25s restriction, varied age mix of bar customers, live band rocked on to packed venue! Staff excellent. Food looked good but we'd booked to eat elsewhere. Very friendly owner/manager let us leave car whilst we shopped for day after check out. Great value for town centre, good choice of restaurants and cafes for breakfast near by. Tea/Coffee in room. Will stay again :-) Could leave some biscuits or a couple of fruits in room.
The food and location were very good. Our room was on a very busy and noisey road.
We were made to feel very welcome, freindly owners and staff, excellent food Noise from a36 a bit distracting but not unbearable
I liked the 'self contained' feel of the access to the rooms. and the evening meal was very tasty..staff very friendly... I felt the room, whilst very clean and the bed comfortable, was a little on the small side for a double room. All a bit cramped when trying to plug in kettle, watch t.v. etc.The traffic is an on-going problem, which can't be helped, best to ask for a room at the back.
Excellent location by The New Forest and within easy range of Winchester and Southampton. Good food.
very warm and friendly host, food was exellent, the room was more than expected, spacious and clean with all facillities. nothing at all.
Thefamily and their staff were polite, very friendly and courteous, and this made up for any problems I had. They were also very apologetic about theloud music. The food was well served and plenty of it. It is not the fault of the hotel that it is on a very busy road. However sound-proofing could be improved. Because of this it would have been better to know in advance about the "Live Music" on Friday night.I Was not told of this until I checked in. Had I been I would have looked for elsewhere. The volume of sound is something that I am sure is illegal and I suffered for it the next day. Anyone with children would have had a real problem. I am also not too happy on dogs being allowed in the restaurant.
location, people, food and room
freindly and helpful staff. Good food A36 is a much larger and noisier road than I expected. Room very small for 'medium double'
A great pub, providing all that one might need for dinner B&B. Comparing it to the 4 star hotel we stayed in the night bfore this was much better! The Dinner menu was extensive. well prepared and cheerfully served. The Inn was right on a busy main road. This did not trouble us at all as our room was at the rear of the Inn. Passing trucks made the building shake!
Located in charming village with thatched roofs and scenic countryside.
Everything, really: beautiful location, great hosts, good breakfast, huge bathroom, large and comfy room. Nothing. If pressed, I could mention that the fact that the mirror in the bathroom was not located over the sink didn't help my shaving, but that's about it.
design of rooms, location Refurbishment not finished - dangerous to walk over scaffolding bridge (wet) - confusion in the dining room( Saturday night when busy)
The hotel position was good enabling guests to walk around the grounds and get some valued fresh air and nature walks. The summer will be especially good for outside interests. The rooms were comfy but small, and more drawer space was needed for a stay longer than 2 days.
clean well priced hotel We had to wait in the bar for 15mins before a table was free for breakfast because, 'unpredicatbly all the guests turned up for breakfast at breakfast time!'
The surroundings were beautiful. Staff very friendly. Breakfast was of excellent quality. The sound proofing from the corridor to the room was not too good.
good breakfast After check in it was not easy to find our room. No signs! Very unpractical with heavy luggage!
Location and quiet Extensive building work is going on, and though it stated "some" building work i wasnt aware we would have to walk on scaffolding and gang planks, also they had a large plasma screen tv in the bar, a satellite dish on the roof but the staff were "not allowed" to put the tv onto anything other than advertising the hotel!
cosy bar lounge and fantastic breakfast
The treatments I had in the Spa were the best parts of my stay. However, I did find the staff very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was great! Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the room service at all - extremely slow (nearly 40 mins to bring a sandwich!), the sandwich had no wholegrain mustard mayo in it (which was on the menu), and the chips I'd ordered to go with them were only half cooked. Also, I found the bed extremely hard, so didn't get much sleep.
The room was very nice Loud music and noise on first night from rowdy wedding party
It was very peaceful and quiet! None
