The floor was soaking wet in the room, no light bulbs installed above vanity area, tv did not work, no refrigerator or microwave and no ashtray in smoking room. No ice machine. Had to move rooms. Refrigerator didn't work in second room. If there was any other places to stay in Gulf Shores we would have left immediately. After making complaints to staff we were still charged full price for both nights.

The staff was super helpful, and she understood our situation. She went out of her way to get us a refund. She was literally the only bright spot in the whole experience.
First, we drove to the address provided by Kayak and every other website we looked at. It took us to the middle of a field on a back road with no streetlights or anything. This is how horror movies start, but I digress. The reason why we couldn't find the hotel was because the sign up front says Travelodge. After driving around for about 30 minutes we finally learned that the Travelodge was the Magnuson. We checked in, and the front desk lady said there was no deluxe room (what we had paid for)...as in she didn't even know what that was. Wanting to avoid an unpleasant situation, my husband and I decide to make the best of the situation and accept the room we get...unfortunately, it turned out to be a smoking room, a fact that was not disclosed when we checked in. Again, not what we had paid for. Not only did our room smell like an ash tray, but only 2 out of 4 lights worked in the whole room and the AC was on the struggle bus. There were holes in the wall from where the hair dryer used to be and the paint was peeling off. We stayed in that room for about 20-30 minutes while I was on the phone with Kayak trying to get a different hotel. It wasn't until the Kayak customer service got involved that they moved us rooms. The new room wasn't much better, but at least it was smoke free. At that point, my husband and I were done, so we thankfully got a refund and just went to the Hilton instead. So, for our 1 hour hotel stay, this was still terrible.
The male clerk did the best he could. He and the cleaning lady were very polite and helpful while under stress of one maid walking off the job!
#1, we would have never found the place if I had not called. You have not put the Magnuson name on the motel! #2, the place needs to be upgraded; the carpet is old and worn (shredding and holes), drywall finishing on where work has been done on the ceiling. The whole place is worn. It was clean and the people were helpful when we needed towels and our coffee pot. It is you, the owner, that needs to take care of all that is wrong here...not the employees in this case! By the way, there was no phones in the room to call the front desk!!!
Bed slept fine.
People at service desk were not friendly. Seems like they had other things to do than to wait on us. Like talking on phone with headset. Plugs pulled out of wall. Ice machine not working. Wanted bottom floor but was told that the motel was sold out. I stayed for three nights. There were at least 5 bottom floor rooms open the whole time....just on the side I stayed on. Refrigerator was making loud noise so I unplugged it. Couldn't get keys to work.
Did not stay at the hotel due to poor customer services that I witnessed from front check in attendant my husband and I walked in on him being rude and yelling at another customer so we canceled our reservation at this particular hotel, the manager was very helpful in resolving issue but would definately recommend proper training on customer service presentation and treatment for paying and future customers

Where should I start. How bout we got there to check in around 6:00pm (even though check in is supposed to be at 3pm) and they didn't have any rooms clean. They asked to give them a little while to get one cleaned. Once they had a room ready we get there and the key doesn't work. Not like it wasn't programed but the actual key reader wouldn't work. They had to come let us in our room. Once we get inside, in the bathroom the toilet had a plunger stuck in it and it was disgusting it appeared to have been there for quite sometime. We called down to the front desk. Not by the phone in the room because they don't work but by cell phone the guy came up stairs and tried to fix it. That just wasn't going to happen. They needed to give us another room. But they needed an hour to get another room ready. So after dinner we come back. The new room wasn't much better than the first. The bathroom light switch was broken completely off. So you had to leave it on all night. The beds where absolutely terrible. The comforters probably have never been washed or at least that's how they smelled. The overall experience was one of the worst hotel stays I've ever had in my entire life and I've traveled a pretty good bit.
My commode almost overflowed, so I only used it only twice. But the female desk clerk was most attentive and apologetic.
