Pros: Rooms are identified by coloured shells, ours was brown/marron. Large and lovely room overlooking the rear garden, downstairs there is a fridge with drinks and an honesty box.. Good breakfast with freshly made coffee. Good looking pool close to the house, but what made this stay so worth the visit are the hosts Claire and Thierry, they are a lovely and friendly couple.
Cons: quiet town with not much to see or experience. One café which closed the day we arrived for holidays.

Lovely breakfast outside on the terrace in the morning. We would have liked to stay longer to take full advantage of all the facilities on offer and wish we had room in our luggage for the home made preserves available to buy - delicious!

There is a guest lounge, nicely furnished and where you can make hot drinks. Breakfast is excellent, with fresh, local meats, cheese and yoghurt.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: We weren't quite sure what to expect at this accommodation but chose it because of its great reviews, and were very glad we had. The guest room is on the ground floor of Carlos' home, with en suite bathroom (with a very fancy shower, but you can just have a regular shower in it!) and a sauna should you wish to use it. Carlos lives on the upper two floors. The living room and kitchen on the photos are his, on the first floor, but he seemed to very much want us to feel at home in his home, and to make use of the facilities. As we were only staying one night we didn't really have time to do this, though really enjoyed a beer and some comte cheese and crackers which he invited us to share with him when we arrived. As other reviewers have said, Carlos is a great host. He was very patient with our rusty french and we really enjoyed our interraction with him. Besancon is a lovely town and well worth a visit.
Cons: Be aware that the room is on the ground floor and the windows open straight onto the street. There are curtains and shutters so no problem re privacy, but with the windows open we were aware of occasional traffic noise and conversations on the pavement outside.
6.3 Good
Pros: There was nothing special to highlight
Cons: Complicated showercabin to set up right jets, watertemperature a switch on switch off Could be dangerous for somebody who does not like such equipment no profesionally made floor in the guest room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Easy to find, parking right out front, restaurants within 100 metres. For tired travellers passing through it was perfect. Double shower unit comes with music/radio steam, lights, two stools, massage jets, hand held/overhead and loads of hot water. Bed comfortable, no traffic noise. Carlos is the perfect host: quietly helpful and generous. We didn't have breakfast (rarely do) but he made us good coffee in the very modern kitchen area. There's also a sauna. Can't fault the place.
Cons: Couldn't access the wifi in the bedroom so Carlos will install amplifiers. Kitchen area wifi very fast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A fabulous accommodation, complete with Sauna & up market facilities! Walking distance to the Old Town & CBD The host "Carlos" made our stay

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is one of the nicest guesthouses we stayed in recent time. The guesthouse is located in an older house which was renovated very tastefully. The rooms are stylish, lovely decorated with a modern touch combining old charm. The hosts are super friendly and helpful and gave us information on restaurants in nearby villages. The breakfast room is absolutely gorgeous and we loved the breakfast together with other guests on a big table. The home made marmelade is delicious. Ray-sur-Saône definitely is one of the loveliest villages on the Saône. It is extremely quiet and it looks like time has stood still. The houses in the village are old, some lovely renovated. The setting of the village on the Saône river is fantastic. There is a castle on the hill and some lovely walkways around the village. We will definitely return to this guesthouse in the future.
Cons: nothing - just perfect :-)

The breakfast exceeded all our expectations- it was served so beatiful, with everything we could ever wish - fresh croissants, bread and eggs, a perfect choice of cheeses and charcuterie, great coffee and fruits. The room was also beautiful and the toilet room is very modern and well furnished. Many thanks for such a wonderful reception, we had a great time in the chateau!

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, tastefully decorated room. Fresh flowers a lovely touch. Excellent, spotless shower and bathroom facilities. Delightful, welcoming lady owner, who brought us tea in the garden on our arrival and allowed us to ramble through her orchard among the chickens, then chatted about art with us in the evening. ...
Cons: Nothing, although the village is a long way off the beaten track!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was excellent, with its own little garden area, fridge and a little kitchenette
Cons: Difficult to find as the Booking.com map reference had the property in Dampierre-sur-Salon when in fact it is 5 kilometers away in another village called Vaite. This has now been corrected on the web site
9.5 Excellent
Pros: So far the BEST breakfast in France, prepared by the lovely owner herself (outstanding BRIOCHE).
Cons: the location is very remote maybe for some. It served perfectly for our purpose. We met business friends nearby...
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A lovely place, with kind and helpful owner.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast setting was out of this world and beautifully presented. What a special treat to eat in such a civilised atmosphere in this modern day and age . The beds were very comfortable . All in all a very special place to stay .We will definitely go back again .
Cons: Nothing. The only problem was payment as we had to go back and find a bank the next day to pay cash.If we had known the night before when we were at the brasserie we could have picked up cash then as the credit card machine was broken.

Pros: Great location. Comfortable room. Fast WiFi

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice stay at this hotel in Besancon. Clean neat rooms, and good breakfast. I was impressed by the flexibility and hospitality that the staff showed. The hotel is located in the city center. Most important for me, was that we traveled by bike to Besancon and that we could safely leave them over night in storage.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel has a great location, right on the river and in the center of town. Our room faced the plaza side, unfortunately, which stayed busy and loud until 1- or 2 am, so had to leave the windows closed. The room was quite tiny but nice and very clean. Reasonably priced and good value.
Cons: The wifi connection was terrible, we were barely able to check e-mail with it.
4.5 Okay
Cons: The rack rate for the room as advertised at the hotel both in the room and on reception was less than we paid through Booking.com. We were very surprised at this and have never been asked to pay more than the rack rate. We paid the hotel directly and not through booking.com. The mini bar fridge was in the bathroom/wc which doesn’t seem very hygienic..
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We could park our motorcycles in front of the Hotel. Location of the hotel is very central.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, good parking, comfortable room and nice breakfast.
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Charming hotel, great staff. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and elegant. We walked to the citadel, the zoo, the cathedral's astronomical clock, and other attractions close by. I recommend reserving a parking space at the hotel. There are 2 small lots you can use- the first one is pretty tight and gets full quickly, but the second one is just past it through the archway and it is more spacious, with some tree cover. The breakfast was worth it overall: It was not a big buffet, but had scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, croissants, some cereal, coffee and juice, and the breakfast room and outdoor terrace were both lovely.
Cons: The breakfast buffet was not restocked quickly enough, so there were times when we ran out of milk, scrambled eggs, juice options, and had to wait for the staff to notice. It would have been nice to have fresh fruit at the buffet. Bring a copy of your reservation with you. The staff did not see my parking reservation in their computer, but luckily, I had my confirmation in hand. Overall, the hotel was excellent.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: New clean hotel with enough parking places (including Tesla chargers). Very closed to the motorway (some 400 meters) but still quiet. Mobile phone charging devices in every room. The price was friendly. English was spoken at the reception desk (which is not so common in France).
Cons: We got the keys from uncleaned room but it can happen. The ham we got for breakfast was not fresh at all and smelled quite badly.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice clean hotel.
Cons: Location is out of the way, unless it is just a quick stop over. It is next to motorway tolls.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: New hotel, good located, close to the motorway exit. Helpfull staff. There was no problem to change the room when it turned out the first one smelled cigarettes.
Cons: Too much privat information required for connecting wifi. We resisgned and used roaming mobile connection. Traffic noise in the room from the road side.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Right next to a36 and the building is very modern with a good finish.
Cons: Most of the food on the snack menu was unavailable so we had to drive to a restaurant down the road.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This hotel was brand new, everything was shiny and beautiful. All very clean and modern. Very good to stop along a trip since it is very close to the motorway. Tesla Superchargers on-site. Great value for money
Cons: If I have to be picky, the shower gels could be better, especially for the hair.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: New fresh hotel with spacious rooms!
Cons: We had a fire alarm at 11pm, all the guests went outside (we woke up children and carried out). The staff was very inattentive and did not inform us at all, we had to ask to learn that it was a false alarm and safe to go back in. So with guests outside in our pajamas the staff stayed inside and said nothing.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place ( close to highway) to stay during the long trip from Poland to Spain.
Cons: For one night was ok
9.5 Excellent
Pros: New, clean, good prking, good location (next to highway), safe, good size room.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely quiet family run B&B. We stayed in one of the family rooms which was spacious and the beds were comfortable. We booked the evening meal (you have to book in advance) eating with the family. The meal was 5 courses and either home grown or locally produced with a small narrative before each course. Our hosts were generous with their use of English as our French is so poor. We would definitely recommend a stay here if you want to steer clear of the larger hotel chains on your travel down through France.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent friendly people , the breakfast was included and there was plenty to choose from with fresh bread, 3 kinds of home made jam , ground almond cake as well as cheese and local sausage and a thermos jug of coffee. It was a shame we were at the wrong time of year to visit the lovely garden, however the view was good. It is a old place full of character.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful, will book again
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Plenty of space, clean, tidy, and old! Very friendly staff and delicious breakfast. Super overnight stop.
Cons: Nothing
5.8 Okay
Pros: The accommodation is in a lovely old mill with a pleasant terrace for eating out on warm evenings.
Cons: The evening platter for which we paid 13 euros per person was well presented but very minimal and not value for money. The breakfast was very poor - we were served a plate of fruit containing 2 completely black bananas (there were 4 of us) a portion of muesli in a jar which was not even enough for one person along with the usual bread and jams (one jar contained only a couple of spoonfuls). We found the presence of the proprietor very off-putting as he sat at his desk a few yards away whilst we ate.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are very friendly and want to make you feel welcome. The room was spacious and clean with free coffee, thee and water. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was well equipped. In the morning we had a nice breakfast that was included with fresh, local and homemade products. The parking on the premises is secure with a locked gate, that's also a plus.
Cons: We didn't dislike anything really. If we need to think of something it might be the bathroom lock that was a bit more difficult to open. Don't panic ;), it does open!
7.5 Good
Pros: Room sizes and beds were perfect for our family on a one night stop over on our way to a skiing holiday
Cons: I felt the breakfast could have been better. Limited and luke warm "hot chocolate", no croissants - would have preferred croissants to freshly prepared but limited amount of brioche.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place, quiet, charming, clean, lovely friendly hosts, highly recommend
Cons: nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful welcome, beautiful property and spotless and comfortable room. Incredible value for money - including a great breakfast.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Angelique and Stephane very hospitable. Angelique is a good cook and we had a nice supper using local ingredients and their own home grown produce. The price is inclusive of wine. Breakfast was very nice with good selection of homemade jams and cake and local meat and cheese. We stayed in the Bretonne room which was very comfy and looked like it had been recently renovated. Good shower and nice to have tea and coffee facilities. It is a very quiet location.
Cons: Can't arrive until 6 which may be a problem for some people when difficult to anticipate time of arrival. They have a nice garden which could be good to sit in. There is no restaurant in the village so if you stay here you will want to eat. The meal is with the family at 8pm which might be late for some people and you join other guests on one long table . If you have dietary requirements you must let them know beforehand as it is a set meal and there is no choice. Depending on who is staying it can be difficult to converse with other guests. We were the only English people but the hosts did manage to explain things in English to us.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location on the banks of the Saone with extensive grounds - a grand old house beautifully presented. Attentive and friendly host. Restaurant in the classic French tradition with excellent food. Breakfast ample in a relaxed and informal setting.
Cons: The Restaurant being very traditional was a little too formal for weary travellers! Wine prices too high - but this is true of restaurants all over France!
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: They have a nice park.
Cons: A room under the rooftoop with 30 degrees, no aircon, no wlan and equipment from the seventies is not worth almost 100 euros per night without breakfast. Including a diner which was served with all courses within 30 minutes, we paid 370 euros for two nights. As I told the director after one night that this room is not working for us and we want to cancel the second night, he got furious and told us that he will call the police when we are not paying the second night. Because he started shouting at me and my family (including my 2 years old daughter, who started crying), I decided to pay for the second night, but to leave within 15 minutes to protect me and my family from this badly run place.

Pros: Very friendly and made sure we were made very welcome. On arrival spent time in the beautiful outdoor pool! Took advantage of the offer of an evening meal, at the time of writing it was 25 Euros PP and was excellent value as the meal was splendid and included an aperitif and wine during the meal - highly recommended but don't tell anyone else!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Joelle and her husband made us extremely welcome in their delightful home. She served a splendid 4 course meal with local ingredients including wine for us together with four French guests who were great fun. Their comfortable and well appointed home is in quiet surroundings on the edge of a village a few miles from the main route from Gray to Besancon.
Cons: There was nothing not to like.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything else was absolutely perfect, the room and having a kettle in the room.. The pool. The hotels a nice walk through the park to the old town and river loop.
Cons: The pool was only available after 1pm or 1.30pm. Not sure why when we are having such hot weather. Usually hotel pools are open throughout the day.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location, in a great town. The rooms were tidy and well furnished, a very modern and comfortable hotel. Good parking of street and right next to the tram and train stations. The spa, pool and gym are of a great standard.
Cons: Only fault was related to breakfast, if you wanted eggs in any cooked form, e.g. scrambled or fried you were told to take them of a hot plate. But the items on the hot plate had been there so long they were dried and unappealing it would have made sense to make them fresh upon request. It would also make sense for the management of the hotel to allow one member of staff to wait on the breakfast area and have another person working on reception rather than saving money and make the one poor lady run between both jobs, then maybe there would be freshly cooked eggs?
7.0 Good
Pros: Room Close to city
Cons: Maybe to expensive... 96 euro's for just an ok room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stay here whenever we are in town. It is the best! Great people, great rooms, and great breakfast.
Cons: It is necessary to reserve rooms well in advance because they are so popular. However, if you can plan ahead, get your room early.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The hotel is a disaster
Cons: They shouldn't simply make overbooking
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: The hotel is located opposite the trainstation and next to a sexshop. The building is a tasteless all-grey flatbuilding that reminds of the DDR. Nothing as suggested by the photograph on booking.com. We had payed 30 euro’s extra in advance for use of the wellness. At arrival we were warned that the wellness and pool would only be open for another half an hour. Next morning sauna and wellness were like ‘off’! Despite all this we were summoned to pay extra for staying an hour longer than 11. I have never been treated more rudely! The walk to town was ugly and long. Over half an hour. All in all an upsetting and depressing experience. My advice: avoid this dump!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Pool
Cons: Not many deck chairs. Hard to book a massage. Full.
9.5 Excellent

Pros: - The owners and all staff are very forthcoming. - The rooms are very clean and comfortably equipped. - Comfortable parking. - The wellness area is great to get you back in shape after a long journey (as was our case, by car from Central Europe). - The breakfast was perfect and offered a wide variety of food. - The Bastille Day fireworks were best seen from the room window :)
Cons: - The shape and size of the pillow was strange ...

Pros: Conveniently located on the edge of the old city, with very helpful staff, this hotel had small rooms, but had good lighting, a large shower, and great air-conditioning and wifi.
Cons: Hotel parking is limited, so reserve in advance, if you want to avoid parking on the street or in the nearby lot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and pleasant staff. Good map of town provided. Parking on site. Adequate, though not exciting, breakfast in interesting surroundings. Air-con fit for purpose and not noisy. Good coffee machine in room. Good location very near centre.
Cons: No fridge in room and no shampoo provided but these are fairly minor points. Meagre in-room tea, coffee and milk rations. Nothing else to dislike.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great, we loved the selection of local cheeses. Location was very good, just a few minutes walk away from the old city center and the citadel. The staff was very nice and friendly.
Cons: However, we noticed that besides the local/EU fruit, the apple was imported from New Zealand. Is that really necessary to serve New Zealand apple in France for breakfast? Parking places are limited at the hotel, we had to leave our car in a public parking lot nearby (7 EUR per day).
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Our room was very dark and could have had better lighting.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Pleasant hotel, close to the centre. Romantic building, rich breakfast.
Cons: We received room Nr 001 which is not in the main building. The room has no air conditioning and the window opened on the ground floor directly to the yard on the parking cars. So it was impossible to open the window for night. We had only a fan turning the warm air all night...
4.3 Okay
Pros: Not much
Cons: Arrogant staff when checking in at the reception! Better staff at checkout!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff, unforgettable atmosphere
7.5 Good
Pros: Close to city center
