The hotel is very clean and of an excellent standard. It is well situated for Ipswich and the surrounding area. I stayed there for one night as I was attending a training course nearby. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone for a similar purpose. The car park is very small but other parking is available about a three minute walk away
A nice hotel run by friendly and helpful staff, and in walking distance to the main shopping area. The pillows are very uncomfortable. The bed was fine.
Clean, bright, modern hotel and rooms with friendly staff. Car parking. Not enough customer parking on site and you can only park off site from 5.30pm till 9.30am.
The whole experience was brilliant wasn't sure what to expect but succeeded these expectations
Staff friendly , approachable, discreet. None
We found rooms very comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful
Massive Bed, brilliant breakfast (especially the egg chef!), well priced parking (for Brighton) Not enough power sockets in the room and the shower dripped when it was turned off.
The room was set up as single though it was booked as single i.e. only one chair, had to look for extra towels etc. Breakfast was disproportionally expensive.
Clean and comfortable Car park was tiny and had a 1/2 mile walk to/from the overflow carpark also breakfast was not included :-(
Restaurant did not open until 7am for breakfast.
Almost nothing The staff, the noise in the room
The general old world appearance and decor none
Only one-night stay - as we had wedding to go to nearby on the Saturday evening - but found it to be a pleasant, friendly hotel to stay in. No
Staff were very friendly and helpful
location good, well preserved old building
was there one night only , room was warm which was good. breakfast was too expensive.
Staff are excellent. Oldest hotel in England. Quaint. Excellent Restaurant. Excellent Bathroom and lots hot water. No smoking rooms were all in modern extension not the historic building and the bedroom decor was tired. TV did not work properly.
the old atmosphere
OK facilities. Smell in bathroom (room 218); location and traffic noise not wonderful.
The total service was excellent.
Location and value for money My only complaint was cold baked beans on the cooked breakfast!
near town centre felt it needed a lot of updating
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Great breakfast. Room was a bit smelly & didn't use shower as looked a bit dirty.
Central location Shower facility was not very good
Very friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast. Good internet speed and a modest rate Room freezing on the first evening and the staff switched the radiator off so the room was cold again on the second evening. After that there was no problem. The decor is dated and the facility is in need of a major refurbishment.
The location was good for the local university and parking was available on site free of charge. Excellent pub around the corner for dinner. Made very welcome by the chap on reception but everything went down hill from there. Given a room that clearly hadnt been used in quite a while as when I drew the curtains there was dust caked into the folds. Freezing cold and the heater provided didnt work, one extra blanket provided but smelt of mildew. Breakfast was okay but the cutlery and milk jugs etc needed a good wash. Overall left feeling like I needed a good bath as I wasnt prepared to use the facilities provided due to the mold and growth on the shower curtain.
In all A bit "tired" & noisey location.
Staff was caring and helpful. Breakfast was great. It wasn't the Ritz, but the price was good.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. location is excellent neartown centre but in a fairly quiet road.Breakfast was excellent and we will stay there again when visiting friends.
The location of the hotel is quite nice. It's only 3 to 4 mins walk to the town center. There's a Tesco close to the hotel, easy to grab something when you are lazy, esp when it's late and no stores open. Well, I have to say almost everything there is wonderful. There is only one thing I don't really like. It's the shower. Ummm, there's not enough water for you to shower. Also, one min the water is hot, the next min it could be so cold. But apart from that, it's really a nice hotel. Both the staff and breakfast are very very nice!
It's location, it is on the high street and could not possibly be any closer to town even if they tried! Nothing
It was comfortable and warm. It was extremely noisey on a Monday evening because of a regular band practice. No one was made aware of this. It was so loud that you couldn't stay in your room because of the noise and vibration.
There was no hot water in the shower
the decor of rooms noise outside at night
The old fashioned style and age of the surroundings. The Ghost waking us up.
Price, breakfast Noise
Well, It is the first time I live in a hotel with almost 500 years history. The room is a little small...
Location Room over the High Street, too much noise!
Nice Helpful Staff, nice clean enviroment Menu choise a bit limited,
The welcome Romms close to reception were very noisy
Very nice staff who were very helpful lovely rooms, nice quite area perfect.
Convenient, easy parking, helpful staff, large comfortable room with all facilites needed and very good breakfast
The breakfast full cooked was excellent Suggest butter should be on tables.Waiter did not bother to fetch it for us when asked.would be good if you could have musuc or a radio on at breakfast. You could not chat without all other guests listening in;
the staff very helpfull and friendly would use hotel again
TV not tuned properly. No shampoo. Breakfast was poor.
Breakfast. Bottled water in the room each day. Small, cramped room. Very drafty. Wind came down the hall and through cracks around the room door frame. Room service minimal.
Room spacious, good professional service. Walls a little thin so quite noisy.
I enjoyed the atmoshpere as well as there attention to detail. Very friendly staff who is always prepared to assist. Imaculate house on a cozy street that literally, takes you back in time. Also, the food there was fantastic! Very cozy, warm and comfortable. Flat Screens with satellite tv was nice :) NOPE!!
Friendly staff and good food in a quiet location with good car parking and not too far from Ipswich centre and easy main road access
Very pleasant stay albeit for one night only. Quiet location which was impressive.
room size and ease of access to colchester utd football ground(taxi £10) breakfast is a set price £13.95 alittle bit out of most peoples range
Very nice breakfast. Charges for internet, it should be wireless and provided for free.
Helpfull staff Bathroom not really clean , specifically the bathroom floor was dirty on arrival
After a long journey in the fog, it was lovely to have room service meal (from a well-mannered and lively steward), rest, relax and watch the rugby on tv! N/A
The staff were really frendly. The breakfast had a nice variety and tasted very good N/A
Facilities and cleanliness of hotel. Ability to hear Essex girl antics in adjoining room
The lovely breakfasts Nothing
The welcome of the staff I was made to feel welcome in all areas, and you felt the staff enjoyed their role rather than just being at work.
The gentleman was very helpful at reception-went out of his way to assist me.
The view. The room service.
The view from restaurant was lovely and the food first class. If you arrived by car difficulty in finding parking places!
Very friendly and helpful staff, good food and super location - just feet from the sea. Comfortable restaurant and lounge areas. And they take dogs! There was nothing to dislike at all but the parking at the hotel itself is a bit tricky.
It was perfect totally exceeded my expectations!!!
Very relaxing wiyh good food. Very poor shower in bathroom (no pressure). No lighting over bathroom mirror in bathroom for shaving/make up etc.
Service and food were superb. No
Constant sound of waves breaking and sight of the ever-changing sea.
We last visited the before the re-furbishment, we were very impressed with the changes, our room was spotless, very warm and comfortable, lovely bathroom, good tea and coffee making facilities. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent, as were the staff in all areas, the gentleman who greeted us in reception deserves a special mention re parking of our car. as mentioned, car parking can be a problem as the public car park 50 mtrs from the hotel does not allow overnight parking. The hotel car park is very small there are open garaging spaces belonging to the hotel next door but are quite difficult to access.
It was snowing when we arrived but the hotel was lovely and warm and remained so throughout the weekend. The staff were lovely and the food excellent. We had been upgraded to a suite with sea view from an ordinary room with sea view. It didn't last long enough!
The friendly atmosphere and and good quality breakfast.
Very good for the price
polite staff. Hotel and area very picturesque. Noisy as there was a wedding going on. Music could be heard everywhere in the hotel and the bass could be heard in our room.
Good price - very comfy bed
comfort and friendliness. decor a bit jaded in bedrooms
The old worlde feel about the building and yet easy to park car there and just a couple of miles down the road the town of Sudbury None
a very comfortable stay. good food, good position The drink prices were very high
Excellent hotel, could not believe the size of our room or should I say suite. Very olde worlde which we do love, four poster bed (very romantic), large bathroom, little hamper with tea/coffee etc inside! The suite had everything we could wish for and more. Only bad point I can really say is that the televisions need to be more modern and slightly bigger as it was hard to view the tv from the four poster bed, but was it a problem...NO Not at all.
the authenticity of the venue & made to feel very welcome somewhat slow service for both evening meal & breakfst
very large comfortable room
It was an impressive place to stay The bathroom was tired and would benefit some upgrading
large bedroom, comfortable bed No tea & coffee facilities in room, needed decorating, bath grubby, smelly room
Visiting the surrounding area including the Suffolk coast
The grounds were excellent. Hotel well maintained
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Nice surroundings, good food, comfortable Slightly snooty staff. I didn't feel the welcome was warm. The bar in the evening was unmanned. It took nearly 15 minutes and 2 attempts to find someone to serve me .
Lovely location.Helpful staff Heating didnt work.Room was a little tired.
The staff were very warm, professional and friendly. The room was very large and the bath and shower were separate which ears big points with me. The wireless internet actually worked very well. I was also able to print out some documents for free which is a very good service in this day and age! There is not much mobile reception in the hotel because it's and old building and the walls are thick. I did have reception at the desk in my room (22) and in the breakfast room so it worked out fine for me.
restaurant was fantastic, service top drawer, staff very friendly and prossesional, room very large and well presented no coffee making facilities in room, food expensive
No hassle Wedding guests seemed more important than other guests. £12 for breakfast is just too epensive. Car parking arrangement was broken on first day.
Very comfortable bed. The breakfast chef was very attentive - the poached eggs were perfect! Shortage of car parking space on site. Pay & display parking available over the road. Beware traffic wardens are very vigilant(especially from 8am)
I have stayed at this hotel before and found the staff on both occasions to be very polite and helpful. I cannot think of anything I didn't like.
The location so close to the City centre of Ipswich. Just 10 min. walk. There was no free WiFi in the room.
the bar closed too early.
The lobby and bar area are newly furnished. The hotel was empty so we were always served immediately. We upgraded the room but it was still very basic and in need of a lick of paint. Decent shower though.
The staff were very friendly, although English language proved slightly difficult. On the Front Desk Notice Board it stated: Breakfast £12 but did not state per person or per Room? Whereas the other prices were per Room
the breakfast is excellent....
The inprovements in the rooms since I last stayed in a Novotel
The rooms are very comfortable, but noisy due to outside traffic noise. The cooked part of the breakfast was dry and overcooked thus wasn't the money!
everything, particularly the staff
Great location. Lots of character
Fantastic food - especially the 3 course breakfast Room was modern and clean - particularly liked the bathroom
the service was excellent , the hotel comfortable and well placed and the food was good
I liked the walled garden and the food was of a high quality We had one robe, one bath sheet but there were two of us! The person who showed us to our room noted this fact but did nothing to rectify it - although this is a very small thing to comment on!
The staff were extremely approachable, friendly, kind and nothing was too much trouble. Thr room was spacious and clean. There was a relaxed and calm atmosphere to the hotel and especially the room. Very stylish decor which included classy and tasteful furniture. The food was exceptional. I have sat here for almost an hour and I can honestly say I can't find a fault with the hotel, room, food, staff or location.
What a suoer hotel. Truly relaxing, great food, dinner and breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. Geat views. A must if you are in the area.
Excellent food, good decor , helpful staff
very comfortable room/bathroom - with space the bar furniture could do with being reorganised
This is not a hotel but a busy noisy bar and restaurant. Anyone wanting a quiet weekend should be warned not to book. A rock concert on the green was not known about by the staff and should also have been warned about. Traffic noise. Hot stuffy room with local drunks outside until 12pm.Pictures suggest idyllic rural setting. Reality on edge off two roads. The booking system for breakfast and paper did not seem to work.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room spotlessly clean and the food - well absolutely delicious. We had a very relaxing break. No
Restaurant and room very comfortable. Bathroom good size. Owner and staff very friendly. Food delicious. Restaurant and room spotlessly clean. Tea & coffee facilities more than adequate.
The whole experience from booking to saying goodbye couldn't have been better. The staff were all so friendly and accomadating,oh and the food....wow! Only that we had to leave!
The warm welcome from the owner. The spacious and comfortable bedroom with wi-fi if required. Extras like a cafetiere and bottled water. The delicious breakfast cooked by the owner/chef. Maybe a personal preference but the bathroom had a corner jacuzzi bath and I would have preferred a large walk-in shower.
The friendliness, the food, the room were all excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and intend going back. Definitely no complaints
I received a very good welcome on arrival. Staff were attentive and courteous. Rooms and setting very pleasant. Breakfast excellent
comfort, cleanliness and personal service. Excelent home cooked breakfast with local produce
Overall impression, very clean, good order. Staff very friendly & helpful despite family health concerns.Food very good. Requested a twin room. Told on arrival this was not available. Double bed offered was a little small for Grandmother & Granddaughter.
the food was very good.the service was excellent .Would stay there again.
Excellent hotel. Friendly Staff. Room was immaculate. Close to Town Centre. Internet should be free.
Such a pleasure to find polite, helpful and friendly staff. Very quiet night's stay but in good location to reach colchester town centre, pubs and restaurants. None
Friendly staff Clean and functional room Good parking facilities Insufficient acoustic insulation Noisy floorboards
Everything was very well done from start to end - amazing. None.
Would be good to have an alarm clock and phone availability
Room was nice size. Long walk to reception. Bathroom was not very clean!
Staff friendly. Generous portions of food. The word 'hotel' has a different meaning to us. The hotel accomodation was in a wing similar to that of a travel lodge and then guests had to walk outside across the car park and through the golf shop to get to the cafe/bar and leisure facilities. The cafe was described as a resturant.- pub grub would be a better description.
The facilities and food were excellent, friendly staff and decent rooms. a great place to stay, very good if you like sporting breaks in particular tennis and golf.
Good size rooms, plenty of toiletires and lovely view of golf course.Quiet hotel. Bathrooms could be updated although shower good.Dinner - food was awful - maybe it was because it was a sunday night.
Staff friendly and all spoke English with an English accent
pool, breakfast and room
The gym facilities were good, as was the location. The breakfast was ample. We were put in a joining room and we were able to hear everthing going on in the room adjacent....snoring,talking,laughing....it was really intolerable.
Ever member of staff that we came into contact with was really friendly and helpful. It was a real pleasure to stay there. The spa area was really lovely the hotel offered really good value evening meals offered and the breakfast that was included in the price of the room was really enjoyable. No
Reception staff helpful, breakfast nice Room very grubby with very small bathroom. breakfast staff appeared to avoid you at service to the point of laughable, mainly standing around talking by coffee machine.
good pool and gym
