With a stay at Tarrareoch Farm in Bathgate, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Livingston Designer Outlet and Scottish Owl Centre. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Friendly comfortable B&B in a good location for easy train travel into Edinburgh (2 mins from Armadale station). If you plan to come back late from Edinburgh, travel from Bathgate station 2 miles away as the trains run later & more often to there.
Cons: Would have liked some directions - the satnav lands you in the station car park. Rather feeble shower.
Pros: Owners very friendly and down to earth
Pros: Welcoming, homely and comfy
Cons: Neatness of en-suite bathroom - offers everything you need just very tight in space
Pros: The surroundings were very tranquil the home was extremely comfortable and clean and it ticked all the boxes. Nicola was so friendly and welcoming and we would definitely stay there again.
Pros: Nicola and Scott were very friendly. The breakfast was lovely, nothing seemed to be too much bother. The room although a little on the small side was very clean.
Cons: A bit of a tight squeeze getting into the en suite.
Pros: Comfy bed , nice friendly owners and a lovely breakfast
Pros: Breakfast was good Was 15 mins from our venue
Cons: All fine
Pros: Great location, close to the trains. We wanted to visit some castles and were easily able to catch a train to Edinburgh. The hosts were simply fabulous, we were very well looked after and had a magnificent breakfast each morning. I would recommend anyone to stay at this location.
Pros: Friendliness and general tidiness of unit.
Cons: Initial lack of WiFi.
Pros: Ideal for our purposes location great - owner delightful
Cons: The beds were a little small for a tall man like myself, but doable.
Pros: The room was very spacious and the bathroom was clean and there was plenty of room for me and my two children.
Cons: We were informed as we arrived that it was gala day and that there would be music until 1am. My heart sank but hopeful that it wouldn't be too noisy. It was horrendous, we got no sleep until it stopped! I feel we should have been informed of this when we booked as I wouldn't have stayed here if I knew. Harthill seems very run down with nothing there to do.
Pros: Great value for money and great staff
Pros: The room was lovely, nice and clean. The guy who showed us up to our room was very pleasant. To be honest we booked this as everywhere else was fully booked and didn’t expect anything great but totally don’t judge a book by the cover.
Pros: Very clean and comfortable and spacious. Was in quadruple room 4 single beds.Good WiFi and all channels on tv worked staff and cleaner very nice and helpful.
Cons: Wasn’t anything I could fault also sound proof didn’t know was pub downstairs as couldn’t hear a thing from rooms.
Pros: Really friendly staff and the rooms where spotless
Pros: Lovely room with nice bathroom and great shower
Cons: Location to Edinburgh airport 20 mim
Pros: Price, comfort, shower, nice people in the pub
Cons: Was very clean and staff were so helpful..Enjoyed our stay ..Would definitely return
Pros: Nicely finished room; good bathroom; comfortable bed; good car parking. No breakfast and no food available in the pub, but there is a new, clean guest kitchen (no oven, just microwave) with cutlery, crockery, fridge, sink, cupboards, etc. There are takeways and a co-op supermarket very nearby.
Cons: Some noise from the pub downstairs (on a Saturday night!), but not too bad - and I wore earplugs to reduce it. Room was very warm (but it was a hot day); window opened but was over pub doorway some let in noise and cigarette smoke from outside.
Pros: Staff are excellent & room really clean. There is also a fantastic restaurant across the road. The saying "don't judge a book by the cover" is certainly true in this case.
Cons: Could do with darker curtains as we woke up early because of the light.
Pros: Good Host:) A very clean, very large bedroom with en-suite bathroom which was both clean and comfortable. Best sleep I had in a week :)
Cons: The only negatives I have are :- 1. The lack of any type of breakfast (if I had seen this I wouldn't personally have booked) 2. Car parking spaces are very small in on site car park. Couldn't get out of my car without risk of hitting adjacent vehicle. Luckily there's a car park over the road which is empty on a night and limited availability of parking on the main road. 3. Having too sit in my car eating a take-away as being in the middle of nowhere there are no facilities for a sit down meal. Obviously not a reflection on the Royal just the location restrictions.

Pros: Breakfast good, room good, bed comfy
Pros: Great staff, great venue and always very clean
Cons: The showers are always a challenge by either getting into the bath or trying to work out the taps
Pros: Good food and service nice room, easy to find.
Pros: Wasn’t too far from Edinburgh airport (reason we booked this hotel)
Pros: location, room was clean & lovely comfortable
Cons: ate in the restaurant/bar on our first night, service was extremely slow & staff looked like they couldn’t be bothered, i had fish & chips the batter was soaking in some sort of oil was overpriced for what it was hotel was lovely restaurant not as lovely
Pros: The location was ideal for where I needed to be for work. Really enjoyed the breakfast - kept me going all day!
Cons: There was a wedding reception going on, which I didn't know at the time of booking. This meant it was busy and noisy, with loud music until about midnight. Would not have booked if I had known.
Pros: Service was great, staff were friendly and knowledgeable, food was fantastic (try the scotch egg starter) and the hotel itself is generally well kept. Thank you for a pleasant stay :-)
Pros: Large, quiet comfortable bedroom. Convenient location just off the motorway.
Cons: The hotel specialises in events and the function room is just behind the reception. If you arrive when a party is in full flow it can be a bit off-putting to be 'greeted' by party goers who are well tanked up. Some of the staff were a bit 'functional' at times.
Pros: The hotel was lovely and clean
Cons: Very warm room Very busy with weddings sat and sunday
Cons: The size of the room was so small and very dated. The window was straight into a flat roof with A/C units straight in front roughly 6ft away. Absolutely horrible and quite a depressing view. Done the damage a suppose but there’s much much better out there for the same price
With a stay at Blairmains Guest House in Shotts, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Scottish Owl Centre and Colville Park Golf Club. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Amazing breakfast, beautiful area, hosts very plesent and polite
Pros: Breakfast is great , owners are friendly
Pros: Delicious breakfast , very nice service.
Cons: Missing internet in the room.
Pros: Cracking location and brekkie
Pros: Owners very welcoming, room lovely clean and comfortable, lovely breakfast
Cons: Could not falt this place
Cons: Lovely quite place to stay i will be going back for work, its very handy for the motoway. Plenty of tea and coffee very nice place would recommend to anyone.
Pros: Although the place is located next to the M8, I was suprised as to how quiet the place is. I received a warm welcome when I arrived. The room was very clean and well presented as was the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, with a relaxed environment.
Cons: The only slight issue was the WIFI, it was not possible to get it from my room, however, I was advised of this and was told that if I needed access, they were happy for me to go into the breakfast room to get access.
Cons: Some traffic noise from M8 but was expected.
Pros: Breakfast was nice and hot which is rare
Located in Bathgate, The Cairn Hotel is within a 15-minute drive of Royal Highland Centre and Livingston Designer Outlet. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Staff always friendly and helpful.
Cons: Room a little smaller than my last visit!
Pros: Staff were really friendly and made you feel right at home. Breakfast was just as good as some of the bigger chain hotels i have stayed at (as i'm a breakfast man i was really happy). Check in and out was very smooth and quick. Dinner is very well priced and generous portions.
Cons: Had to unplug TV in room to be able to charge my phone, would of liked a few more sockets but this isn't a show stopper by any means. However, when the restaurant was closed and we were all in the bar/lounge, our son was peckish but the hotel has no bar snacks! Had to take a 20 minute walk (both directions) in order to get anything. Suppose you could take a car, but if your in the bar my bet's is that you are not fit to drive.
Pros: Walk in shower was fantastic. All staff incredibly friendly and helpful.
Pros: Set three course evening meal (in addition to B&B rate) at £14 was EXCELLENT! Huge number of choices, all beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were brilliant. Inclusive breakfast was also top notch, prepared after ordering, not just a simple buffet with everything slowly going cold.
Cons: We have no complaints whatsoever, just compliments. One of our best stays ever.
Pros: Bathroom was clean, bed comfy and reception staff friendly.
Cons: Breakfast was poor no proper sausages only lorne which was greasy. Second morning buffet only not fresh cooked. Tea and coffee facility in room hidden in cupboard basic nothing special.
Pros: Staff very friendly
Cons: Room was looking into main road very noisy at night. Room was very hot no air conditioning but if window was open the noise from the road was awful
Pros: Lovely hotel with great staff and a nice, clean, room.
Pros: It was very reasonably priced and the breakfast was great. Staff were really friendly and helpful.
Cons: Water pressure could have been better.
Pros: Location good, room and bathroom clean.
Cons: Room and bathroom very small, cooked breakfast not good.
Pros: Excellent Breakfast. The location was ideal for our purposes.
