friendliness of staff, very good public areas;varied menus in restaraunt. i found none during my stay
public rooms style substtute dining room (function was on) was badly lit, unaatractive, poor table layout and tinny music system. Staff were great.
the service is quite good, and the food is very nice i think
Quiet and confortable hotel - nice location on the sea front - convenient car park facilities breakfasts: quality of drinks and food below average for this type of hotel
Dress code for resturant - somewhat old fashioned
I do not believe the hotel read my notes on requesting a seaview. the room was bear the room was refurbished but they had not finished no paintings on the walls. the mirror was so high that you could not sit down to do your hair or makeup you needed to stand or sit on a few pillows ( I am not small 5 foot 4) breakfast good butcher but tinned tomatoes and mushooms !!!! eggs cheap and the juice was of standard local BB offer fresh veg & juice my thoughts were that the idea of breakfast was that will do rather than lets give a good breakfast that the hotel would be proud of.
Everything was great except you need to be aware that if you want to eat in the restaurant at night you can not wear jeans and trainers. Not being able to eat in restaurant in evening because of the rule about jeans, I only packed jeans! But really, the hotel is great.
Breakfast and service in dining room were very good and location of hotel was lovely. Mu husband and I had a very disturbed night owing to the composition of the pillows, they we extremely hard and made it impossible to be comfortable.
The general ambiance. The Hotel was warm on bitterly cold days. The Staff were helpful Our room was over-heated, due in part to a broken radiator valve which was replaced within hours of our requesting a repair.
The Friendlyness of staff & professionalism Staurday morning there was no utensils to pick up Coissants or rolls
The ability to relax in an informal atmosphere and a platform to brisk walks along the beach walkway. No real dislikes
I cannot commend the staff enough as they were polite, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Now we had to pay a little extra for the sea view as you would expect, but the room had a panoramic view and was was well worth it. It was a very good size and the large bed was extremely comfortable. I will certainly be back and would rate The Grand higher that the "luxury" 5 star hotels in the big cities. Have no complaints at all.
comfort and luxury and good service no gym facilities.
the fact that I had a workman in my room changing the locks -I think I should have been offered another room or a price reduction
everything "very Grand"will stay again
The staff and the facilities were superb. Staying at The Grand Hotel made a business trip a pleasure.
The receptionists and porters were extreemly helpful and courteous. restaurant looked a bit old fashioned.
Pleasantly old fashioned.
quality of service, excellent breakfast room very old and tired
Good value at price we paid (£80 per room per niight). Excellent breakfast and restaurant service. Evening meal very good but, as others have commented, a little bit pricey. I think many more people would eat in if menus were more competetive with other eating options in the area. Would be happy to revisit and recommend Claverton House.
hospitality, warmth, breakfast it was more a guest house than a hotel.
Enjoyed the grand accomdation with excellent food and service
Stayed one night but hope to go back sometime. Very friendly staff, nice room and an excellent dinner and breakfast
Food was superb, Table service first class. Indeed a 'country house' as advertised. Most relaxing. very little.
very lovely . set in gardens. breatfast to die for. the lady of the house was keen. helpful. and we chilled out. a great haven to escape
Owners were very friendly and made you feel at home N/A
In a word - faultless
The staff were very helpful and efficient and the bedrooms very comfortable and warm. Small towels, cold plates at meals and no daily papers available
Just superb service all round. To answer Q3 below, it was price at first but now blown away by the place. Just superb Nothing at all.
Decent sized bedroom and excellent bathroom N/A
Comfortable. Friendly The Restaurant could be better both for Breakfast and Dinner. The Orangery/Bar/Lounge menu and food were better and better value
it was quiet and convenient car parking
Wonderful hotel great food and service.
Staff were very good and attentive Overall, hotel was fine but felt a bit "dated"
Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable and the staff on the reception desk were extremely efficient. I wish we had stayed longer!!
The warmth and friendliness Not really
Fantastic room - huge and luxurious.
The long time at the check out in the morning. A four star hotel should have teo reception staff at this busy period. Also it is a long way to the bottom car park with your luggage.
Quiet with plenty of staff on hand, most of whom made you welcome. Bar closed at odd times, like 2/30 on Friday afternoon, just as I arrived and wanted to relax with the paper and a glass of wine.
Very good breakfasts. Room very well appointed and decorated. Lovely large bath towels.Proprietor very helpful with arrangements for late arrival. Helpful parking arrangements. No lift (but we knew about that in advance) but 47 stairs to room. No BBC1 on TV, BBC2 intermittent. No towels in room on arrival later than advertised check-in time. Shower operated well, but cubicle too small - kept hitting tap when moving around, sometimes shutting off the water! These are small points in an otherwise very enjoyable stay.
Curtious staff. Clean, well equipped room and exellent breakfast.
The guest house was very good, very clean, friendly staff, very good breakfast. Very good location just a couple of mins walk to the sea. It has been refurbished to a high standard. We had a lovely stay.
The staff 'recent referb, location In Attic room which should be sold at under 50 pouinds as small space and many flights of stairs to endure
Location. Owners. Breakfast and breakfast room. Flights of stairs to reach room. small room and shower cubicle so tight it was difficult to turn round without knocking the water control and shutting the water off.
Good fast wireless Internet Access Sausages could have been better
Location small room,many stairs
I stayed at the Hotel in March & could not fault the service & the excellent breakfast, I will certainly stay here when I visit my son in University
That the staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome and helped me a lot during my stay in Eastbourne even though I was only there for 1 evening. The other guests on my floor were inconsiderate and made a lot of noise late at night, but this had nothing to do with the hotel or staff, just an unfortunate coincidence.
The swimming pool/spa is well kept and clean, the views from the rooms over the golf course are fantastic, the breakfast was good quality and with a good choice of hot and cold food. You pay for what you get though, worth the room rate it if you want a quality experience.
it was our 25th anniversary and we enjoyed the whole experience, we have recommended the hotel to all our friends and family.
Nice and clean hotel in a beautiful countryside setting. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. There was also a problem with a change of date with my initial booking whereby I got charged for a night which was cancelled, but both the the hotel and booking.com sorted it out quickly. Food at the restaurant was good, though I was disappointed that the children's menu did not match the adults', i.e. mash potato was made from powder and sausages were not as good quality as you would have expected.
The surroundings and the standard of the suite made the stay very relaxing and enjoyable. Nothing
Friendly staff & amazing swimming pool
Comfort, space and views
It is one of the nicest and friendliest hotels that we have stayed in. Although it was not particularly cheap, we thought that it gave great value for money. The roo was super and it is so nice to have the extra items such as tea and biscuits, iron, trouser press etc.
I didn't stay at this hotel myself but booked it for my parents. They were over the moon with the hotel, so much so that we are thinking of booking the hotel for the whole family for my dads 50th in November.
The comfort of the room and the stunning views from my window The bar was very bland
Cleanliness My request for a quiet room was accomodated (away from potentially noisier guests) Lovely soft, large towels and good quality bedlinen Good quality bathroom products and hairdrier Space, light and tasteful decor in bedroom and elsewhere Comfort and size of bed - very good supportive mattress Good security (swipe card to access corridor to bedroom) Very efficient room service Bottled water and nbeverage making facilities in bedroom Pleasant friendly staff None really, although no soya milk available - a lot of folk request this these days.
The beds were really comfy and had lovely cosy duvets. I slept really well both nights. The breakfast room was crowded and didn't have enough tables for everyone.
the position of hotel
Great location on sea front and near to town. Television at Breakfast and in the bar area at loud volume on commercial channel = very irritating - and no one watching except a member of staff.
location, price and quality
The design of the hotel was so cool and funky and very clean. The heating in the bedroom needed to be much warmer and also no hot meals especially breakfast.
Good size twin disabled room, newly decorated, thick curtains, lovely breakfast and helpful staff. some teething problems with recent work & equipment
A nice room with an excellent view of the sea. It would be nice if there was a mirror in the room, the only one was in the bathroom. The sockets were all in the bedroom but no mirror to see what you were doing i.e. electric shaver, hair straightners.
The staff were very friendly and particularly so as they had only just opened (we were their first guests!!) but clearly the hotel was not quite ready so in the circumstances they coped very well! We look foward to an anniversary invite!!!
The efficiency of the booking in and the sunny breakfast room, felt no pressure
We came down for my daughers's 21st Birthday. She had always wanted to visit Hever Castle and as it was a special occasion I wanted to book us into somewhere a little special. We loved the restaurant and food and the decor. Sadly we weren't able to stay for very long, but would definitely recommend it
Comfort and the feel of luxuriousness. Many great details. Difficult to find parking.
We have stayed at several Hotel Du Vin's throughtout the country because of the ambience and the boutique nature. We enjoyed our stay immensley but would only comment that for £145 a night (4 nights stay)that breakfast would be included.
Nice ambience & good food Room was musty and pokey - shower did not drain.I rang reception and the bistro for 5 mins each to order room service - at 9:30pm and no-one picked up
Courteous and efficient staff despite the Hotel being very busy the evening i arrived. Though the room was bijioux it contained everything required for an over night stay. Lovely view of the gardens. Both The evening meal & breakfast were excellent.
I really did not stay long enough to make any comments. Apart from it was very clean and near enough to the town center. No not really.
everybody was very friendly and very helpful specially receptionist. I did enjoy everything
View of the sea from room balcony and the lounge/bar areas fror relaxation The smoking area on the Mezzanine floor needed cleaning and looked 'run down'
The Eastbourne Centre has an ideal location on the Eastbourne seafront. The rooms were kept to a high standard of cleanliness. My room was spacious and well equipped. Fast wifi broadband was provided free of charge. The room did not have a refrigerator, and only one drinking mug was provided.
Excellent accomodation with friendly helpful staff. Very nice location. Comfortable well appointed rooms Cost of evening dinner in dining room, not real value for money. I will order bar meals on my next stay
the hotel was beautiful in a beautiful setting, great rooms. Our breakfasts service was diabolical , there was no food left, staff were rude, and even when we complained they took 45 mins to bring our breakfast and there was nothing left on the buffet . We complained further and so we didnt have to pay, but we would have preferred to pay and have a decent breakfast .
The waiter who served tea and generally looked after us, Rob was a credit to the hotel. He was clearly passionate about what he did and it was reflected in the service we received from him. The quality of food served at the hotel was very good and the cooked breakfast was impressive. The decor of the hotel was very disappointing. It was neither country house or modern chic. The reception rooms with their fabulous architecture were reduced to looking like something suited to a retirement home with over a dozen stained identical winged chairs. The bedroom was pretty boring, and didn't live up to expectation. The photo of the bedroom on the bookings.com website which was listed as an executive room, and which we booked on that basis, was in fact one of the suites, so we were disappointed when we saw the room we were actually staying in.
Excellent the food especailly
The quality & friendlness of the staff; also the food & wine were at times unbeatable.
Beautiful house in beautiful surroundings Tables too close together in the restaurant
rooms were excellent staff very helpful gym was far to small and needs air conditioning
food was excellent, staff were polite and very helpfull room 16 i found cramped
All staff were obliging and friendly Having been given a time for dinner which we attended on time, it was over an hour later than that, before we were offered a menu!!!
Friendly staff and nice comfortable room.
Reception staff were friendly and efficient Bedroom was v small. Bar was soul-less and rather institutional - a missed opportunity in such a potentially magnificent room. It was also too noisy from a next-door wedding reception. Hotel guests should be able to escape this sort of event if they wish but all the remaining public rooms were about as inspiring as an airport lounge - another missed opportunity. Someone should have a good look at the furniture (too much of it) and fittings and try to make all the public rooms more intimate and welcoming.
It's a very centrally situated hotel, well furnished and decorated. The staff go that extra mile for you by providing tea & coffee during the afternoon if you wish to return to the hotel. The breakfast has several options and public rooms are light and airy. The outer door is always locked, which makes it an ideal hotel for singles particularly women who may be nervous on their own. Don't know about disabled access as you have to climb steep steps to the reception. Once inside there is a good sized lift.
Comfortable room, excellent location, breakfast and very good staff which were helpful and polite.
Excellent spa. Satff were so lovely and helpful. No tea/coffee in the room which i would expect from a hotel of this standard and would be a nice touch. Late Night Room service food was not well prepared, but they were very helpful and fast.
Beautiful buildings, friendly staff, gastronomic food, just a great experience!
Unusually good service and cuisine for a hotel in UK.
Location & grounds are fabulous as was the food in the restaurant which was superb unfortunately the staff/service did not meet expectations for a 4 star hotel & their policy on bookings/rooms & credit card transactions is pretty shabby for a hotel of this quality
Beautiful location A little expensive
Mainly the people who work there. I would have liked to have an elevator but it was ok.
The hotel itself was amazing with the rooms being very relaxing and the grounds of the hotel were great.
Amazing surroundings and grounds beautifully maintained. The restaurant was lovely and food exquisite. The spa/country club was great and the full body and facial massage I booked was worth it! The perfect place to propose! There was a leak into our room, probably from the shower in the room above us, but the hotel did not offer to discount our current stay, only a future stay. They did get our room service order wrong, but it was quickly rectified and at no cost.
the grounds and surroundings the fire alarm going off early on the Sunday morning after our late night at a wedding!
Attentiveness and number of staff on hand to help
friendly staff good clean facilities good food
Very nice hotel, polite/helpful staff, good location, clean and breakfast excellent. The only neg comment was with the bathroom in our room it was a little too small (narrow) esp for my husband, you couldn't properly use the sink without nearly hitting your head every time on a shelf .
Good location for what we wanted. Pleasant room and staff. It would be good if the table cloths were washed after each use. If they don't want to do this they should use paper or no cloths. The crockery should be checked more carefully before it is put out, since some still had food remnants.
All the little extra touches ,like turning the bed down, the lamp turned on for when you went in,chocolate on the pillow. The propriertors always smiling and took the trouble to be really nice nothing at all
Pleasant guest house with excellent service and very friendly staff. The room was comfortable and the breakfast of a very high standard.
excellent all round especially the owners and staff
The location was handy for my stay in Eastbourne however I would not reccommend this hotel. The one staff member working over my stay seemed overwhelmed with things to do, the standard of the rooms was not impressive for an apparent 4 star hotel. The TV was consistently out of tune and generally not impressive for the price tag placed on the rooms. Probably adequate for a short stay for pleasure but ona business trip and for the price tag I expected a lot more.
Excellent service, superior food, room very clean and comfortable. Free DVDs to borrow from large collection, which really topped things off.
The Room was beautifully done out and had a great view of the tennis courts - shame there were no matches on though! The staff were really friendly and the breakfast selection was great. All in all, a fab find!
The owners were very helpful and pleasant. The room was very nice and the decor good. Sheets were lovely and crisp. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. There was absolutely nothing to dislike.
friendliness of staff the seaview that we paid extra for could only be seen by standing in the bay window and even then it was limited
Finding the link to book on your website is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. That is my only complaint.
the staff were friendly and the room was comfortable bit quiet in the evenings entertainment would be good
very friendly and efficient staff. Free WiFi. smelly, dusty and old fashioned hostel-style accommodation. Dirty curtains, mouldy shower curtain, bathroom from 1972. Urgent need for massive updating.
One of the rooms was excellent, newly decorated and beautiful, Some confusion over booking payment as booking reciept emailed stated paid in full but actually only half was taken so needed to pay remainder. Hotel staff very rude when dealing with this matter even though they said it happened all the time! Single room was appauling quality for £60 per night!
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff; breakfast very good and restaurant and lounge very comfortable. bedrooms and bathroom adequate - no more
the staff at the hotel give clients a warm reception and a very welcoming atmosphere. We go to visit our family in Eastbourne every 3 months and the Langham is always our first choice.
The hotel was warm and friendly and beautifully decorated. Staff were friendly and efficient. No car parking facilities
Free parking outside hotel - but during peak times I don't think we'd have managed this. Twenty minute walk from the town centre, close enough but far enough away - hotel is right on the front so the route is all beachfront. Dubious continental breakfast Old bathroom (orange-brown tiles - as fitted ie clean!), rubbish shower
The room had excellent views of the waterfront. Had the weather been more kindly(both full days spent in Eastbourne it rained non stop)the short stay would have been more enjoyable. We could not find a suitable parking space for the car although we had reserved a secure allocation .Constant banging heard from rooms being renovated close by
Staff were helpful and courteous. The ambiance of the Hotel was pleasing.
staff were very helpful Someone smoked a cigar in the lounge! I will be happy when the smoking ban in is effect. The bed was too soft for my taste.
Most impressed with the standard and quality of the decor and furnishings.Very tasteful.Only able to stay one night but will be pleased to stay longer in the future.
Convenient to where a relative was staying in a Care Home Smoke in the Bar
Pleasant staff, value for money. Ideal frontal position with relatively convenient parking. Breakfast menu was good. Only disappointment was the bathroom which, with cork tiles was dated and needed up grading.
Nice big clean room with great sea views The room had squeeky floor boards which was a bit frustrating.
the spacious public rooms and the service of drinks and coffee to guests including eighteen month old twins evening meals not up to scratch
Hotel room was in dire need of modernisation. Shower was very old, tiling and fittings very tired. Below standard for a 3 star hotel.
Olde world charm, polilte staff, traditional values. Power showers would be nice, bathrooms perhaps could be upgraded. Bedroom maid service had not been completed by 1.30pm on the Saturday of our stay. We were only there for 1 whole day and wanted to rest after lunch, so had to make our own beds.
Female staff member in charge of bar utterly unprofessional, rude and aggressive with customers and other members of staff. A disgrace.
