Pros: The Basque landscape was stunning. The hosts are vibrant, passionate and so proud of their culture and heritage. We booked a traditional dinner and our host fed 12 people easily and professionally, with incredible Basque dishes and wines that fit each dish...the sangria was a stand-out! We would return in a heart-beat.
Pros: Friendly hosts, lovely house in a super country location. Excellent breakfast and top quality dinner.
Pros: Everything was absolutely amazing I wish we could have stayed longer.
Cons: The only thing you have to know is that the walls are thin :)
Pros: Magnificent breakfasts, lovely pool, interesting house, friendly welcome.
Cons: No local restaurants within safe walking distance, but easy drive.
Pros: Very beautiful basque-style house from the 19th century in the middle of nature, with a nearby lake. The breakfast was excellent as well as the welcome coffee and cakes. We definitely recommend ! The region around is also fantastic.
Pros: Charming owner , full of enthusiasm !
Cons: The local restaurant gave us a poor meal .
Pros: Wonderful home hosts, a lot of attention to guests, breakfast delightful, thank you for everything.
Pros: The location was lovely! A beautiful country location...and a pool for a refreshing dip after a day of sightseeing and driving the back roads in the area. The owner, Andoni was wonderful, full of information on the Basque area and it’s history. The breakfast was very generous and delicious. I highly recommend a stay at ‘Le Domaine Silencia
Pros: Both Jean and Sara were excellent hosts. the breakfast was awesome. If we ever return to this part of the world we would definitely stay here. My wife is Gluten free and they provided Gluten free bread. and when a mosquito bit my wife Jean very kindly gave us some tea tree oil
Pros: This accomodation is the authentic and traditional, beautiful basque house, and the owner, who is kind and friendly person who speaks English very well ,is very knowledgeable about basque tradition and the regione around so it was interesting to listen to him(and useful for sightseeing). The room was spacious, clean, tastefully decorated with beautiful garden view from the window. There is a big garden to stroll, with ducks and a pond with fish, a pool and summer kitchen. I love the location of hotel , it is in the country, of beautiful nature. They serve hand-made jam for breakfast, and the breakfast is included in the room fee. There is a hair dryer, a desk, well working wifi in the room. I world like to note that the owner cooked scramble egg for me in one morning for the breakfast, and it was just perfect. I wonder he has worked as a professional cook...
Cons: Maybe check in-time. It is 17.00 and I find it a little late although it seems to be standard for chambre d'hotes
With a stay at Chambres d'Hotes Aire Berria in Irissarry, you'll be 25 mi (40.2 km) from Musee Basque and 29.3 mi (47.1 km) from Anglet Beach. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: A wonderful place and Cristina was a fabulous hostess. Breakfast was extremely good and filling.
Pros: Very friendly staff, the hotel was great and the rooms are clean and in very good condition. Very nice views on the fields/mountains. The breakfast was also really good. Really excellent location to see both the Basque of France and Spain. Highly recommended
Pros: The house is very special: antique, where the grandfather of the host lived at the time. The surrounding landscape is very picturesque, and when we were invited to the Apartiv by the hosts in the evening (with their Japanese relatives) we sat on a special terrace overlooking the landscape, and tasted cider (a drink that characterizes the Basque people). We heard the Basque language in a conversation between the owner and his daughter (an interesting experience). The owner has a sense of humor, sociable, and so did his wife, who made us an exceptional and tasty breakfast. We would come back here without hesitation.
Cons: It was a little hard to find the place, but with the help of one of the village residents the problem was solved.
Pros: The host was wonderful. We felt like we had been visiting a new friend, our room was beautiful, as were all the rooms in the house. The view was spectacular. Breakfast came accompanied with grandmothers home made cake. We were treated to local drinks and music and a lovely conversation about the history of the house and area as well as chats about all kinds of things. We will be back!
Cons: This place was amazing
Pros: Peaceful, comfortable and with lovely views. The hosts could not have done more for us. Breakfast was local produce and differed every morning. Could not fault a thing.
Cons: Nothing to dislike. We spent one night in the roof apartment and then moved for 4 nights to the floor below, double room. The double room was much nicer for our purposes.
Pros: Breakfast was great with homemade cake and poached pear along with usual pastries. Classic old French property which was full of character. We stayed in the attic rooms which was great for our purpose and looked in on the first floor rooms which looked amazing.
Cons: Nothing to dislike about the property at all. Bit off the beaten track but we knew this when booking.
Pros: Nice manse converted to a pension-style property. Out in the countryside which was wonderful for us. Incredibly helpful staff, petite dejeuner. I would return.
Pros: Everything was perfect!
Chambre d'Hôtes Moulin Urketa is set in Ayherre, in a 14th-century windmill. It offers a garden with terrace, a river and a stone bridge. There are fishing and tennis table facilities and a children’s playground. The rooms offer wooden floor and views of the garden and the river. They are complete with an electric kettle, seating area and a private bathroom with bathtub and shower, free toiletries and hairdryer. Every morning, a continental breakfast is served at the B&B. Free Wi-Fi in public areas and free private parking are provided. Hasparren is just 4.5 km away and guests can also drive 25 km to Bayonne or 35 km to Biarritz. The Spanish border is just 50 km away and Biarritz-Anglet-Bayonne Airport is 33 km away.
Pros: The place is very pastoral. Next to the house is a stream, with a bridge over it. The room is designed to create a very pleasant atmosphere, with a roof with a window that faces the sky. Breakfast included (among other things) great Basque cheeses. The host really tried to give us a nice feeling. An unforgettable place in the heart of the French countryside.
Cons: Everything was good. I do not have a bad word to say.
Pros: Lovely comfortable bed and room. The room was furnished to a very high standard. Tea making facilities were provided in the room, which was most welcome. The owner gave us an interesting guided tour of the mill and the grounds. Breakfast was superb, with delicious local products. It is located about 10 miles or so from the motorway and we stayed here for an overnight stop on our way to Spain, it would be good to stay here a bit longer sometime and explore the local area.
Cons: Probably something that is inevitable with a characterful period property, there are low beams in the bedroom and we cracked our heads several times, however we didn't do any damage to the property itself!
Pros: Lovely welcoming owner. Very peaceful rural location. Comfortable bed.
Pros: The Moulin Urketa is a tranquil and welcoming old mill that can be a greatly convenient starting point to visit the Western Pyrenees. Its structure has been masterly renovated, yet keeping its traditional looks: the entire premises are well-kept, and you can perceive the extreme care that the owners place in every single detail. Our lodging was large, romantic and very nicely furnished. The bathroom was spacious and absolutely spotless. Every morning we were having our abundant breakfast with perfumed bread, home-made jams and croissants, plus a selection of local cheeses and ham. Jean Luc is a very professional, considerate and gentle host and his service is definitely impeccable.
Pros: This is simply the best guest house I have ever stayed in for many years! The historic 16th-century mill building with modern amenities is truly amazing. Very good continental breakfast, cleanliness and comfort. The owner showed us how the mill works. Great experience!
Cons: Everything is excellent!
Pros: A tranquil paradise situated on a river teaming with wildlife and surrounded by a lovely landscape. The property itself looks to have been recently renovated inside but retains its historical charm. Very clean and cosy. Breakfast was typical continental but with local cheeses and home made jams on offer.
Pros: Excellent B&B with a lovely garden.
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the setting most tranquil
When you stay at Les Fous Du Village in Saint-Esteben, you'll be 5 minutes by car from Grottes d'Isturitz et d'Oxocelhaya. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and laundry facilities. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Beautifully located in the Pyrenees countryside. Stylishly decorated and spatious rooms. Both breakfast (included) and dinner (optional) were a real treat. But the most enjoyable was the really relaxed vibe as well as the people in and around les Fous du Village. Service with a smile and some great tips to explore the area. A perfect place to relax and enjoy your holidays.
Pros: Beautiful old house, spacious rooms, peaceful location. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly and gave us good tips on places to visit nearby, unusual room service Excellent local food (we had breakfast, but you can also ask for dinner with hosts served outdoors in a lovely garden in house atmosphere - unfortunately missed it). A truly unique place. Perfect WiFi, excellent view.
Cons: floor and ceiling are wooden and the steps of neighbors from the top are very well audible
Pros: Friendly staff, food, wines, the surrounding nature, animals/pets friendly and bed/bedroom
Pros: Extraordinary. Wonderful. Smart. Intelligent. Unique. The people within, and there seems to be lots, are friendly, attentive and thoughtful. The room is large and the big shower room wonderful. Clever decoration and amazing place. Excellent evening meal with the owner and friends and children. Lovely breakfast.
Cons: I loved it. For others: it is more of a happy 'hippy' commune than a hotel. No credit cards. It does say so; but I didn't read that far! There are cats and dogs.
Pros: Owners/Staff very helpful and couldn’t have been more welcoming. The evening meal was excellent and very enjoyable in a relaxed atmosphere. The room and facilities were very comfortable and clean and well-equipped, great views. Would definitely recommend this place and will visit again. Only wish we’d had time this trip to stay longer.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
Pros: This is a very special house, with a very warm and friendly atmosphere, and where we felt genuinely welcome. And the food is delicious! We had all our breakfasts and several dinners there. It's all freshly cooked from local products, and all the staff know how to make guests feel welcome. We'll be back!
Pros: Great food and decor.
Cons: Not much
Pros: Location and spaceous room
Cons: No payment by credit card
Pros: A very friendly, different and somewhat quirky concept as a 'hotel'/'guest house', in a recently refurbished 12th century fortified house. The various owners (each with an interesting tale to tell) immediately and genuinely make one feel 'at home'. The bedroom was spacious and delightfully decorated., while the garden/bar/dining are is pleasant and with a wonderful view.
This cosy hostel is situated in Saint Jean Pied de Port. Hotel Mendi Alde guarantees a quiet stay as it counts with just 14 accommodation units. Pets are not allowed at this establishment.

Pros: Dinner was excellent Pool lovely and warm Staff very helpful
Pros: Spa Nice cat! Eating in the garden Rural charm
Cons: Harsh lighting in room Closed down after dinner - bar etc shut by 10:30
Pros: Absolute incredible find and by accident, which makes it better. Beautiful hotel where the owners family have lived for the last 3 generations. Rooms and spa were beautiful. Best part was the food. It was amazing. So much was home made, with all the nicest foods you can imagine on top. Highly recommend if you are a foodie.
Cons: Nothing really. Thought it was all great
Pros: The fact they upgraded room for free
Cons: Ridiculously overpriced for what it is!
Pros: Nice personel and very good and fresch food. Near to the natur and walking tracks.
Pros: The staff were very friendly, we ate in the restaurant the food was excellent.
Pros: The hotel is situated in a small village which has a small shop but no other amenities. The hotel was easy to find and we received a very warm welcome. Parking is very convenient behind the hotel. We decided to have our evening meal at the hotel which was excellent. The regional cooking was interesting and good quality. Breakfast was also good and we liked having this included in the price. Like other people who have provided a review, we appreciated the helpful advice from hotel staff on what the area offers.
Pros: staff were helpful
Cons: we booked this hotel because the website said there was a pool. There was no pool, i would not have chosen to stay here had i known that as the hotel is in a remote area and we did not want to drive every day.
Pros: Welcoming staff, open and airy reception area with lots of room, pleasent garden with view of the hills, excellent food,
Cons: Our room was a little cramped, the menu was a bit overpriced
Pros: beautiful location, excellent food, very pleasant and understanding staff.
Pros: The food was excellent and the owners very friendly which made up for the points below.
Cons: It appeared to be in between summer and winter seasons and we were the only guests. I arrived tired and thirsty after a long hot drive and found the place locked and was unable to get a beer.

Pros: In the morning the staff were friendly and helpful and provided an excellent breakfast.
Cons: We arrived a bit late (8pm) so it was a bit disappointing that no-one was there to greet us. However we were able to access our rooms once we worked out how.
Pros: The staff were excellent and could not do more for you.
Cons: Disappointed we could not get an evening meal on a Sunday aftyer a long journey, and they need to put the instuctions for the telephone use in an emergency by the phone
Pros: Staff were very friendly. The athmosphere was relaxed.
Cons: There was confusion about demi pension. One afternoon there was no restaurant and I wasn't aware of this.
