Lovely old world charm..lots of character: comfortable and very cosy: good breakfast choice.
Easy access good safe parking English not spoken
A beautiful, small, historic hotel with very good staff in the centre of Santillana. We had no dislikes.
smili,g persons especially in the restaurant; good food and recommendable
An absolutely superb hotel. The staff were charming and helpful. The location is just superb for an off-season break (may be a little touristy in the high season). Beautiful village, beautiful room, public rooms perfect, stylish, comfortable, delightful and quite adequate for size of hotel (just 16 rooms). Bathroom large, spa bath lovely. Breakfast excellent. Lack of restaurant no problem, lots of restaurants in village, though in November many are closed. However, remaining ones included some gems. Within half an hour from Santander, could not recommend more highly. Excellent price.
I liked the situation, the charm and hotel staff the breakfast could be improved
Very comfortable, well furnished, restored hotel. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Noise carrying from other rooms and from kitchen
Lovely location, luxury hotel, helpful staff, very interesting village, only stayed one night, but hope to go back next year. Because of the time of year, November, not many restaurants open in the village in the evening, the hotel itself didn't have a restaurant,. so would go back at a warmer time.
The historic setting
clean rooms, great breakfast, friendly staff, great design, Jacuzi! the Jacuzi didnt work and we actually got a call from the front desk telling us to stop using it because there is a drain., we discover that only after we unpacked and filled up the bath. we where not offered any compensation other then switching the room ,which like i said- was already to late for us.
It was perfect and a great value, and the breakfast buffet was excellent
Comfortable accommodation, good choice continental breakfast. In a lovely village setting, but don't be misled by the location -- Santilla del mar is not a seaside town
Nice hotel, nice people.
Charme.Very quiet. Very nice staff. I really wouldn't like writing anything bad about this nearly perfect hotel, but...there was a long hair in the ham dish at the breakfast buffet.
The hotel is a short drive from Santander & is very well located , 2 mins walk from Santillana del Mar old town and with plently of free parking. A lovely 17th century building which has been very tastefully converted to provide excellent accomodation. The owners & staff spoke English & couldn`t have been more friendly or helpful. Breakfasts were very good & offered a wide choice. Woken early (5.30am)each morning by rubbish collection--to be fair this is more of a general problem in Spain & does not refer specifically to this hotel.
The decor was stylish, the receptionist extremely helpful and we enjoyed a drink on the terrace in the evening. Little light and fresh air in room due to small window.
Lovely room, very comfortable. Big old style, extra bed in the room. Lots of space and close to town in park area. Parking available nearby at a cost of 2euro.
Very welcoming hotel. Decor simply beautiful and uplifting. Staff were very efficient and caring. I think a restaurant would complete this beautiful hotel. No negatives, only that it would have been really great to have a restaurant on the premises.
I toured the town The room I received had only tiny windows and was dark during daytime
No fuss, just had what we wanted Plumbing is extremely noisy.
it's really near to the old city center
I liked the situation of the Hotel away from the road and just a short walk from the old part of town The breakfast was horrible, everything was given in a plastic wrapper.
Within easy walking distance of the medieval town of Santillana del Mar. Which is an absolute delight. The hotel was more than adequate in every respect.
There was plenty of car parking space. It was very near Santillana and therefore not too far from Santander for the ferry home. The hotel itself was well furnished. It was very good value for money. All instructions for guests were in Spanish (naturally!) but incomprehensible for us. None of the staff spoke English. The dinner menu was rather limited. A French translation would have been useful for us.
New hotel, tastefully designed, modern facility, friendly staff, central location to towncenter Santillana-short walk - only 1,5 km to Altamira - can highly recommend this hotel no
Air conditioning to our room waas cut off at 4.am resujlting in a completely ruined night's sleep - stacks of traffic noise
The rapport of price for quality and comfort is hard to beat.
The hotel was beautiful, well located about 5 mins walk from the medieval town of Santillana del Mar, with parking which was a huge advantage given the restrictions within the town. There was a fantastic little restaurant across the road, where we had a fantastic meal. The pool area was very pretty and we would have used it for a couple of hours each day to relax at if the weather had allowed. The hotel could do nothing about thisl. We had dinner in the hotel the first night we stayed there. The food left a lot to be desired. It was awful. We did highlight this with the staff before we left.
This was our 2nd visit after staying here in Sept 2008. We were very disappointed to be refused dinner in hotel dining room, although they had spare tables. We were turned away and told to walk into Santillana del Mar. I thought hotels had a responsibility to feed residents. We were offended and will never return here.
Very good breakfast. Staff very friendly despite language barrier. We could not speak much Spanish but the hotel staff could not speak any other language: French Italian or English. I think this could be improved! The hotel was on a noisy road and the swimming pool was too small.
Pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room, pleasant area with access to historic sites and buildings, proximity to interesting places by the sea
Location. Character of hotel. We had two rooms but they were a bit far from each other (ground and third floors) - this could have been better planned.
Good location. Very friendly and efficient staff. Nice room. Good value
very nice staff which try to help with very poor english... nice room, clean and confort. parking place. the location in a nice area. the breakfast is basic. good value for the cost.
It was very peaceful and we liked the decor.
Very friendly & helpful staff. Very clean. Well positioned for the old town, cafes & bars, tourist attractions (Caves, museum) We were able to walk everywhere. The close proximity of the police station (almost opposite) meant that our car keys did not always work. Something to do with a radar device to prevent the remote detonation of explosive devices! Not the hotel's fault though, and they were quick to explain the reason, preventing a garage bill. I would also suggest that this "problem" does at least make this hotel a safe place to stay!!!
Excellent location for old village and also good parking facilities. Easy access to all routes. Windows on ground floor bedrooms left open after cleaning, poor security.
The hotel and location were brilliant in a lovely area. Delightful There was not anything we did not like. The only recommendation would be more brochures / info on the area
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful; everyone spoke good English. When we asked where the bus stop to Santander was, they kindly provided us with a print out of the timetable. There is free parking on-site behind the hotel. The hotel is only 3 minutes walk from the medieval town centre. We didn't try the hotel's breakfast or dinner; but for breakfast I can highly recommend the corner bar that is on the way to the centre right at the big tourist parking opposite the tourist information. The "double" bed was extremely small and not comfortable at all. Our feet were hanging over the edge - my boyfriend and I are not overly tall so I guess you need to be quite short in order to sleep in them in comfort. Also, we only had one pillow to share, but they provided us with a second one upon request. The reception is supposed to be open all night long, but they just leave the hotel door open and your room key on the reception desk. What might seem handy at first, is in fact very dangerous - anyone could walk in, take your key from the reception desk and burgle your room! Therefore I recommend not to leave the key with the receptionist. Overall, considering the low price, the hotel is still "good value for money".
kind helpful staff found me an appartment when hotel was full
Welcoming and friendly reception. Good location of hotel at walking distance of the center. The hotel is situated along a pretty busy road so go for a room at the back and not on the ground floor- where the parking is. We changed rooms after day 1 because of the noice (and that of the kitchen airco at the outside wall). The hotel in general is pretty noisy as you can hear doors close and the reception phone ring. Bathrooms are good, room decoration pretty basic but ok I guess, though you would expect something extra special as the village is lovely. Breakfast seemed pretty basic but ok for the price I guess.
close to the town The bed is not comfortable, is the most important for hotel
As we needed to leave the hotel around 8:30 a.m. next morning, we asked the receptionist to prepare the breakfast just before 8a.m. They kindly prepared it.
The Cleanliness and layout. The Restaurant.
The hotel was very nice, people friendly. Good position, closed to the historical centre of Santillana del Mar. Easy access to internet. The hotel restaurant was cheap and the food good. Parking with the car was not easy. There was a public parking for 2 euros per day very closed.
Comfortable and traditional environment. Pets welcomed. Whole restaurant experience unimaginative and overpriced - especially breakfast.
Rooms big beds and furniture Room smells mouldy
Wonderful furniture..good location...very clean parking overall excellent. No dining or drinking facilities..unable to buy food. Even though the sister Hotet has food it means having to walk to it..so we chose an excellent tappas bar to eat.
A very beautiful building (like almost every one in Santillana), stylish rooms and furniture; very nice, helpful and friendly staff In the rooms facing the street it is quite loud during the day. But who would spend days sitting in the hotel in a place beautiful like this one?
excelent location, very welcoming service from staff, have some one who speaks English in the restaurent,
friendly staff, excellent location rooms could do with a refurbish
Excellent location No breakfast facilities in the hotel itsself
we had one of the rooms on the top floor. It was excellent. Large room and bathroom with exposed stone walls on one side. Lovely view of the valley below. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would go there again The wifi signal was weak in our room but ok when we went to the ground floor
the location and the room style the noise from other rooms and the noise coming from the wood stairs
Our room had excellent views of the old town center, pastures and hillsides. The morning staff was unfriendly to non-Spanish speakers.
poor room insulation(walls very thin)noise from room above horrendous
Lovely comfortable room with great view. Good breakfast. Great location 2 minutes from town square. Great base for exploring on foot or by car. In the middle of dairy farming country. The web site shows a swimming pool but when we asked we were directed to the local camp site, but their pool was closed and behind locked gates. On the Friday night there was a disco in the basement which went on to 4am.. Dreadful noise. Had we known about the disco we would not have chosen to stay here. A disco is totally out of character with the location.
The hotel provided us with exactly what we wanted, inexpensive accommodation not too far from Santander. Comfortable and quiet. The uphill walk back from the village of Santillana could be a problem for some elderly people.
Parking was the deal breaker in our case. The breakfast was good, the staff knew English!
Nothing It was freezing cold when we asked if the heating was going to be turned on we were informed it would come on next week (November) we asked for a portable heater they didn't have any. Room was dirty and horrible. We were booked I. A Superior room. My advice avoid like the plague.
The place where it is located is lovely The room was not the same as in the picture. It wasn't bad but It hasn't window, only a skylight that you access by a kind of ladder
good value great location
Great romantic place to spend some days! Surrounding of Town Santillana was impressing. Also the included breakfast and the free bike rental was a gret service!
Friendly hotel, free internet access, basic food
If you are lucky you have a room with a view which is nice, but that's the only positive I can think of. Rooms on the 2nd floor are dark and hardly have daylight. Poor quality of restaurant service, not very clean and rather small rooms, very poor breakfast. This is not a three star hotel; they have stolen their third star and should improve to keep two star. This is rather a guesthouse than a hotel.
Location was just perfect, on a hillside overlooking the beautifully preserved Santillana del Mar, and just a few miles from the scenic coastline and a series of lovely beaches. Taking this into account and the height of the season, we considered the bed & breakfast rate to be fair value for money. Not wishing to venture out in the rain, we eat 'in' on our second evening and although the menu was relatively limiting and the restaurant almost deserted, we were very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food served. The waiter/barman provided excellent service. Our room smelt a bit of damp - most probably due to poor ventilation in the bathroom, which itself needed a bit of updating. We would have asked for a move had we been there more than the 2 nights. Inspite of check out stated as from 7 am, there was no receptionist on duty before 9 am, so a number of guests like us were left hanging about, despite other staff were in evidence. We may have only been delayed 15 minutes or so but had we been aware, we would have made alternative arrangements the night before.
Staff friendly and helpful., and good breakfast for class of hotel.Hotel has nice poistion looking over the village and the countryside. Rooms were somewhat tired , and their was no air conditioning, this wasn't a problem in mid september, but could have been an issue in august and july
Jose and his sisters were wonderful--so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel!
Rather remoot location. No dining room/restaurant. Came back from site seeing one afternoon and the hotel was locked up. There was only one person working in the entire hotel.
Very friendly stuff. Clean and spacious room.
Jose and his two sisters Maria & Chelo who own the hotel treated us like we were family! They showed us around the hotel that was once a stable and the new addition. You think that you are in a castle because the hotel is made of huge stones and all of the antiques that are through the hotel, they even have a lift to get upstairs. NOTHING!
Lovely building. Very nice romm. Good staff.
Beautiful building & antiques, great location
it was near the centre of the town the airco wasn't working very good. The restaurant was closed in the evening
Very good hotel. Excellent food. Very convenient for Boarding Santander ferry next day.Free wifi handy. No problems.
Room comfortable and clean. Set meal was good value. Good breakfast. Limited free parking which was very convenient. Very well placed for old town of Santillana del Mar Misunderstanding over the free wine or water option on set meal. One person chose water and two wine, we were judged to have had three free waters and therefore had to pay for the wine.
Limited and poor parking facilities, no internet as advertised, surly staff, zero soundproofing to bedrooms, poor and cold breakfast buffet.
Beautiful hotel in a great spot
Very comfortable accommodation - conveniently situated. Breakfast not available - had to go to another location.
helpful, informative staff; good room; reasonable breakfast; dinner at the hotel very good value for money if menu di dia chosen
Charater hotel, friendly & helpfull staff, large room, good location Mediocre food at evening meal and breakfast, both buffet style
Extremely friendly and helpful reception staff. A very traditional Spanish hotel. Extremely comfortable. Plenty of interesting pictures and clocks on the wall.
Good location in pleasant village.
The little guest house is situated up the hill and is just a short walk from the heart of the village and consists of a beautiful stone house. We were welcomed very warmly by the owner and she immediately offered us a free breakfast for the following day and we could not believe our ears. It proved to be a very hearty breakfast with fresh fruit juice, hot chocolate and recently baked pastries. The room was spacious, very tastefully decorated and impeccable. All in all it was a superb value for money and a wonderful place.
Rural type guesthouse, recently renovated. Nice rooms, everything was clean. Located in the centre of the village. Private parking is available. Not signposted on the main route, do not hesitate to enter into the restricted area of the old town. Prepare your route with map or GPS or ask several locals to find...
There are many hotels to choose from in Santillana del Mar, but we were very satisfied with this one and we hope to stay there again next time we are in the area. The hotel is small and the owners are friendly and helpful. La Solana is in an excellent location, with on-site parking and easy foot access to museums, restaurants, shops in town, and by car to surrounding areas. We found the hotel to be quiet despite it being August and peak season. The hotel offers free Internet access, and we found the terrace to be a pleasant place to relax in the evenings and plan our next day's activities by going online. We recommend this hotel to others without reservation. We thought it a great find!
The room was large and confortable. The view was excellent.
Pretty, traditional, clean and friendly guest house just a minute's walk from the main square in Santillana del Mar.
Although difficult to find in the old town, the hotel was in excellent location to see the town.
Staff attempted to place us in a less expensive Parador stating that it was what Kayak had contracted. I showed them Kayka's e mail and stood my ground and staff relented.
The building is very nice but the decoration of the rooms is too plain, you could hear the Tv of the room next door at night
very pleasant room staff very pleasant if a little cool. lovely village no
It was everything one would expect from a Parador Signs directing one to the hotel are almost non existent leading to having to criss cross the village through very narrow sreets until it is found.
Superb location in the centre of the medieval town. Good and convenient parking. Lovely old building, beautifully converted and furnished. Comfortable beds. Luxury bathroom fittings, with multi-outlet shower cubicle. Bathroom water was tepid at best when we arrived mid-afternoon, and barely that at 7.30 the next morning. Desk clerk accepted that this had been the case, but did not apparently deem it worth an apology! Breakfast at 17 euros a head was very expensive for what it was - have had better in Spain at a third of the price..
The building and setting were wonderful and the room and bathroom were spotless and extremely comfortable. The waitress who was running the breakfast service was abrupt and unhelpful. The ladies who served dinner were pleasant as was the gentleman on reception. The food was served up too quickly with only a couple of minutes between courses but this is probably quite usual in Spain.
Location, Parking availability. Room was of adequate size. Asked and received balcony. Breakfast was mediocre
Beautiful hotel. Very helpfull staff. Great Location. Well worth the money.
Splendid accommodations, large room, good amenities (including water pressure) in a historic setting, great location in the heart of the town. The concierge was very nice and helpful. The restaurant staff could not be described as warm and welcoming, and the "special dinner" of regional dishes was served in a very matter-of-fact fashion with no explanation, or interest on the part of the servers. Frankly, if I am fortunate enough to return to this town, I will dine elsewhere.
the elegance of everything the buffet breakfast was very expensive so i just had pastry and coffee
Free wireless internet connection was nice, if it would work also in room it would have been excellent.
the terrace the design and overall quality is not up to 4 star quality.
Spacious rooms and luxurious baths
comfort cleanliness staff could not use facilities before 9 am and after 7pm,no kettle in room
great rooms and good value for money in the restaurant
Large room Difficult to find. No address given, just an area.
The location was poor but the hotel was excellent. Given its distance from the town, it was a disappointment to found out the restaurant was closed on the Sunday.
Cleanliness of room -good room facilities -secure garage coffe at breakfast AWFUL -bitter and cold
Beds are hard like a judo mat. We booked this hotel for fitness and sauna possibilities. These are available at an adjacent and expensive wellness center. This is closed on sundays and the fitness is also closed on saturdays from 14:00. Taking a sauna will cost you 5.50 Euro for each 15 minutes !!!
We have stayed twice at the Torresport on our way to Santander, whichis only 20 Kms away. The hotel is comfortable, the Sports Centre is available for use free of charge and the staff are very helpful. There is only a bar for breakfast which is ok when travelling. Good stopover hotel.
