THe hotel is within walking distance to the beach and the receptionist was helpful in moving us to the main hotel as there is no WIFI on the second site The hotel is on two sites the main hotl and another building across the road. No facilities at the hotel apart from WIFI no tea making in the room etc. Very small basic shower cubicle - the shower rose was all clogged up and needed to be cleaned. Might be good for 1 night but I would not stay there again
We chose Le Canada for its close proximity to the car ferry port so we could break our journey up. The reception is manned untill 8pm, as our ferry did not arrive untill 9.30pm we messaged the hotel to tell them our arrival time. They made sure that there was someone was there on our arrival to show us our rooms. We also stopped here on our return leg of our holiday, and as we were checking in earlier this time we had a full evening to sample the local restaurants and visit the landing beaches and memorials.
convenient location for a the one night stop we needed. choice of type of breakfast would have been nice.
the owner s were very friendly, and helpful the front parking could be better ( cut hedges to allow more ease of access to front door ) better selection of breakfast items say proper cheese not processed triagle chesse ,cold meats, normandy has plenty of choice a chill cabinet for the food also some means to do maybe toast or boild eggs
It cost to much for what you where getting
Spacious rooms, helpful staff, ideal location for port - 5 mins from Ouestreham. Lack of restaurant, lack of satellite tv and room fridge
Nice location near sea front; very convenient for ferry. Not every room has ensuite facilities; long walk or drive to find restaurants.
We satyed in the annexe which was comfortable and the security for motorcycles reasonable. Maybe just a little out of town for access to restaurants etc. Nearest was a mile. The area around the annexe was shabby and needed some TLC.
Proximity to beach Horrible room - poor ventilation and horrible unconfortable bed with a dip in the middle .I was charged for a superior room but stayed in a standard room so was overcharged 5 euros
its closeness to the ferry port the smallness of the room
Best food ever! None
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Room was very elegant, modern and tastefully furnished. Breakfast selection was great and perfect for our needs. Superb restaurant. Only one English TV channel, BBC World News. No sports channels or Sky News.
Externally the hotel is like a factory unit but inside it's an oasis of charm and refinement. The hotel has a famous restaurant which, alas, is closed on Sunday nights.
Courtesy of staff, comfort of facility, and value of money. The design of the rooms is outstanding. Hotel is one of the best I visited recently The choise available at breakfast.
The room was lovely and the restaurant was amazing. The location was a bit off the beaten path.
The bedrooms were well designed and the beds were very comfortable....The restaurant was amazing for dinner with high class french cooking
Superb restaurant. The bedroom was very stylish and comfortable. Good car-parking and with easy access to the ports Needed flannels (face-cloths). Coffee making facilities in the room would have been helpful. These were minor imperfections
Very pleasant, relaxing 3 night stay. Very quiet, as our room was located at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. (There were not may other guests staying while we were there.) The location is good if you have a car, both for the city centre and other places of interest close to Caen. Very comfortable clean room, lovely bathroom, excellent shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was more than adequate and beautifully presented although limited in variety and probably not worth 15 euros - ours was included in the price. We had lunch in the restaurant on one day and it was a indeed a memorable experience! Definitely worth the money. After the second night, soap and toiletries which we had been using were replaced with new ones, which I thought was very wasteful!
The courteus and cooperative attitude staff, quality of the restaurant, good service, parking Slow, almost unusable WiFi internet in the rooms
Very spacious, well located. Perfectly fine for an inexpensive place to sleep. Very friendly staff Very, very cheap feeling furniture. (The cabinet panel covering the dishwasher fell on my ankle when I tried to open it.) I'm also not a fan of bathrooms with no shower enclosure.
Location was convenient, in that it was close to the train and bus stations, but the surrounding area was a bit dull (10-15 minute walk to restaurants and old town)
it was a basic room with basic service and basic room details. we werer initially told the room would be available at 1.30 pm.So we came back at 2 pm and told the room would not be reay until 3 pm!? Un acceptabe???
Very convenient for the Ferry Port, clean and with friendly staff Bedrooms are small, some have inadequate windows, and they tended to be difficult to ventilate in hot weather.
Proximity to port. Quiet hotel, very clean. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant no ambience...waitress bad tempered, carpets very threadbare. Dogs allowed in restaurant.
Ideal for the Port which was reason for my visit. It was a bit pricey to park my motorcycle in the secure car park considering I just put it in a corner not even in a designated bay
the hotel staff was very courteous, quick to respond to my questions. The food was excellent and the wine selection very good. The room was small but I was travelling alone, so it was plenty sufficient, comfortable and clean.
Closeness to beach the room was very dark, a cold blue. It was claustrosphic.
Efficient check-in, clean warm room, in great location for ferry travellers
Good location for the ferry port. Overpriced with bathroom in need of refurbishment.Parking charged for three motorcycles in one space
In all a very nice hotel. The room though small had superb beds, and the bathroom had all the facilities including a bath and shower . It may only have a 2 star rating, but our experience was way above this.
The hotel was clean and pleasant and also near the port which was very convenient because we had an early ferry. The only bad point was that the hotel booked us in on my first name therefore they could not find the reservation easily.
Staff welcoming and helpful.Have a bit of chip on shoulder as my bank card was used in Oustreham before our arrival in a restaurant in the same town so a bit concerned about security so paid cash for everything. Rooms were cold and heating difficult to set. Coffee mugs really stupid- no handles- burnt fingers unless you wait for cold coffee. Restaurant bit to upmarket for rest of hotel- menu not available in English.
Everything, The staff were very friendly. The hotel looks new and everything was very well done. The room was lovely and had every amenity, including tea/coffee making facilities, which is rare in Europe generally. We will definitely stay there again. Absolutely nothing
We thought the rooms, showers, cleanliness were very good, the staff were helpfull and charming . We had chosen the hotel because it had a lift & this helped with the temporary immobility of my husband I felt there could be a place in the room to put ones discarded clothing, as we prefer not to hang things in wardrobes for fear of leaving them behind. We also thought that the menu was overpriced and insubstantial
Top quality at reasonable price. Obliging staff and ,although not cheap, very good food. Perfectly located for Caen ferryport.Would happily stay again.
The hotel is very comfortable. It is located close to the D-Day beaches (Sword Beach is 5-min drive away) and a 15-minute drive to Caen. The restaurant has great food at good prices. Staff are very friendly helpful.
Comfortable modern facilities throughout the hotel. Bedrooms where functional, comfy bed, tea and coffee making facilities, tv. The bathroom was clean with a powerful shower, good size cubicle and complimentary toiletries provided. The only dislike was the mugs in the rooms did not have handles and so were impractical for hot drinks.
Welcoming environment in the hotel. Comfortable lobby, nice and friendly service.
The location was good, and on Sunday morning there was a market outside.
Proximity to centre of town terrific. Underground car park very convenient. Easy access to restaurants, shopping and Chateau.
Hotel easy to find clean and tidy rooms staff very helpful No real bad points
location,room,breakfast,room service and staff excelent
Very noisy outside late into the night. Duvet too heavy and therefore too hot
friendly staff easy parking cost
Car Parking was convenient and so was the postion of the hotel. The restuarant was expensive and poor quality by comparison
Happy that the reception staff spoke English and were helpful in booking taxis and advising re local information. I did not like the fact that I was unable to get any food before 7 p.m. in the hotel or in fact in the town. I had been travelling all day and there was nowhere to eat anything. Even the hotel's room service was not available in the afternoon - not until 7 p.m.
Room (327) facing courtyard-very quiet despite city centre location.Excellent bed & opaque curtains-slept well. The air-conditioning was turned off.No fridge in room.Hot food not replenished at breakfast.
The price, the location, the kitchen facilities No housekeeping during the stay
The hotel was fine;however, the staff only worked until 1900 and I arrived late the night of check-in ... but the staff left keys to the room out for me. Not daily room cleaning service.... no fresh towels the second day.... no toilet paper, shampoo, etc....
The price of the room The room layout
Very comfortable and quiet no electric kettle or tea cups only problem
The appartment was very clean although furniture outdated. Concept was good Short checking-in hours - 2 hours on a weekend!
convenience of a kitchen for small meals no laundry facility
I loved that it had a kitchenette. The rooms were very clean. The hotel was close to everything without being downtown. The only thing I did not like was the bed. It was suppose to be a double bed but it was actually a bed under a bed.
Location - finding it was easy and close to bus, tram & shopping. Parking - enough on site. Friendly hotelier with good English. VERY clean! Not spacious, but comfortable. No English TV channels - some English news channels like Sky, CNN or BBC would have been nice. Tiny espresso cups, can't have a 'normal' cup of coffee.
The ability to cook in if I so desired. The room was clean and relatively spacious, the bed comfortable, the shower superb. The hotel was too far removed from center city, and wanted to charge me 10 euros simply to give me access to the phone line.
Free parking, large clean room, and comfortable bed.
The room is in good sizeand internet is perfect no
One of the better hotels I have stayed in, it ticked most of the boxes. Clean,Friendly, Helpful, Location etc. The rooms were too hot, the air conditioning unit did not work it continually blew out heat.I switched it off and slept with the window open
The staff were very helpful and the rooms were cleaned with fresh linen everyday. The hotel is very central and there is a short walk to shops, food, restaurants. Breakfast is reasonably priced and car parking opposite is also reasonably priced for 24hrs. It would have been nice for the hotel to have a restaurant for evening meals and a better bar area. The rooms lacked comfortable seating.
excellent location, clean and modern and quiet
Proximity to the airport was important, we enjoyed the breakfast at the loby restaurant as well.
Town Centre Location was very good No parking, however public underground opposite
The behavior of the rep was very good. And they can speak English very well. I wish they serve only boiled egg at the breakfast.
central location, overlooking a square with trees and flowers
Location, modern, clean no
Friendly staff,excellent location
We were only there to sleep a few hours, but it was a nice hotel. Breakfast was nice too. The young man at the desk was incredible! Very difficult to find even with the car navigator, hotel maps, map24 etc. If you don't know Caen, the minute you get in the city, call them on the phone, they speak English perfectly, and they'll guide you in.
very comfortable and the duty manager was extremely polite and very helpful very difficult to find even for residents who very kindly offered to escort us. Much clearer directions with greater information particularly about being able to use vehicle on pedestrian access
staff where excellent
Good location Car park is very difficult to use (very tight entrance, exit and little room).
Very conveniently located and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.
in the city centre noisy if room on the side of the street
Spacious room, very friendly staff and secure parking
the constant helpfulness and charm of all the staff - they were always there to help. in fact we arrived one day early so had 4 nights and they were able to accommodate us - paid extra and had a deluxe room which was great. nothing at all
Facilities, staff and breakfast buffet all excellent. Initial approach to hotel by vehicle was ackward as it required us to drive down a bus/taxi only lane but once we figured that out, everything else was ease. On-site parking is available in a secure underground garage but it is limited so book ahead.
The location, and the reception staff went beyond their duties to help us during the strike action.
this hotel was very central and the lift was very welcome.the doubleglaseing was good in the summer this room was very hot and with 2 night clubs across the road the windows had to stay shut, the room the bathroom were very small
I thought it exuded a warm, friendly atmosphere There was nothing I disliked about it
A good stay spoiled by a very noisy street - no sleep until 3 am.
Comfortably situated with respect to the city center. A quiet, nice place for travelers. There are several good restaurants in the vicinity. Parking facility is not available for the hotel's guests.
Staff very attentive & responsive to reservation process & confirmation. Nothing. Very nicely done.
Able to walk to location from train station. Uncomfortable bed.
Superb food and service
was wonderful and friendly. Diner was outstanding! too much rain...but I guess you cannot control
Hotel is clean, quiet and has very helpful staff
Quiet, parking possibility, very good situation
A high standard hotel in an excellent city centre location. Good parking.
Very friendly and helpful hotel staff. Excellent location very close to old city centre, shops and restaurants. Wonderful buffet breakfast. The 'standard' room was a bit on the small side, but ok. We had enough room for the 2 of us.
Excellent location for town of Caen. Good for shopping. Parking a problem. Breakfast not good value for money. Nice hotel overall but for a 4 star rating needs a bit more. Bathroom very sparc with accessories, hair dryer very poor wall mounted. Bar expensive for drinks.
Outstanding food, excellent staff, wonderful atmosphere, good location. I first stayed here about 15 years ago and the level of service and quality of the food has been maintained with the same level of excellence and care - an outstanding tribute to the dedication and care of the management and staff at Le Dauphin.
The service overall was predominantly very good, especially at the restaurant. On arrival we came down for a drink after check in, we were kept waiting about 20 minutes before we were able to get a drink, I had to ask her her 3 or 4 times during that period,This was the only blip, the service thereafter was very good from the reception desk.
Clean, comfortable hotel. Some members of reception staff were rude and unwelcoming.
The hotel lobby was clean and the outdoor pool area looked nice It was not clean at all. Our room had filthy carpets.
Paper cups and poor tea / coffee making facilities. The cost of drinks at the bar. Lack of bath towels in the room
The room was comfortable and spacious and close enough to Caen In the room there was a chair which was a little bit dirty.
An excellent hotel to use for a night's stay whilst travelling through France. Clean, comfortable & a good atmosphere.
Location a little out of town centre and right on the ring road. In room internet was advertised as being free, but didn't work at all and hotel staff had no idea about it.
Good for staying for a night. Not the worst of the Novotel hotels (comparing to Le Mans at least), but will not stay there next time. Actually do not recommend Caen at all, Rouen is much more interesting.
Very accessible location, restaurant was good, would recommend.
Large, comfortable and clean room and spotless bathroom. Easy access by tram into Caen centre.
excellent launching site for surrounding countryside
Convenient location for our overnight stop with good parking, restaurant and bar.
everything! fantastic hotel with very helpful and friendly staff, top class food in the restaurant and family friendly, basic but clean and comfortable room, would definitely come back.
the breakfast facilities were excellent. A lot of care given. The ease of booking in. The rooms were very, very basic. No Shower curtain!! No Hairdryer!! and in desperate need of updating.
proximity to sites we wanted to see no warm water, thought we would have a nicer room.
When rains, you can hear dripping water from the roof to something on the ground (eaves are probably stuffy) .....
We enjoyed the evening meal in the restaurant very much and found the service to be very good. The room did not have had tea/coffee making facilities
the hotel position is good, city centre withinreach, main e46 very near, menu excellent no
Cheap but ok room.
A little bit worn and scruffy, but good value for the money; very helpful staff, facilities pretty good, breakfast good, dinner surprisingly good, nice swimming pool.
Access to WiFi Apart from WiFi and a restaurant on site - which we did not use - the hotel was no better than the "budget" accommodation supplied by Etap and village hotels just a short distance away at less than half the price. Having used "budget" hotels in the past when travelling through France we had expected a much better standard of accommodation based on the price that we were paying, very disappointing.
Stayed one night only. Hotel is ideally located for the Ouistreham ferry terminal. It is a short walk away from the Pegasus Bridge and museum. Hotel is a motel style, rooms are clean. Rooms are small and a little claustrophobic. Double bed is small by French standards. There is no courtesy tray, but there is a small ( poorly stocked) fridge. Restaurant is very expensive and out of keeping with the overall motel style accommodation. Nearest budget restaurant is at Pegasus Bridge, although hardly cheap. No bar facilities.
Was accommodated in annex across road. Very modern and stylish and quiet comfortable room. Excellent restaurant with some reasonably priced dinner menus. Had several very enjoyable dinners. Central location for touring the British sector of Normandy D-Day action, and easy drive to American sector if have car. The very modern bathroom still required standing precariously in an inadequately screened bathtub to take a shower. Difficult and dangerous for older people and end up with a very wet floor. I was told no walk-in showers. Pity!. Also found the breakfast disappointing, two petit pains and a croissant plus coffee was your allotted portion. No buffet offered.
It was obvious the hotel had recently opened ( workmen still on site ) the location is excellent for exploring the Compiegne forest. However basic amenties in the hotel ( coffe tea making in the room ) non existent also very poor local facilities restaurants etc, overall a good basic reasonably priced hotel for business. A few more facilities would make it ideal for a family holiday in the local area. Poor facilities in the room and lack of local restaurants in the town.
staff very friendly and hotel is in a very convenient position, car parking is secure with easy access Central heating could have done with turning up, however it was sunday night (restaurant cosed) and blowing a gale
Very friendly staff, comfortable room with great sea view, excellent restaurant with fantastic (if expensive) food. Perfect stop-off before catching early ferry home. Noise from other bedrooms, including herd of elephants above - bring earplugs!
Our third time of staying at this hotel, and our third satisfactory stay. The staff are helpful and welcoming and despite the restaurant being shut on the Sunday night there were recommendations for where to go for a nice meal.
It was nothing fancy but was a perfectly good place for a bed for the night within walking distance of the ferry terminal. We stayed there because there is no public transport conenction to Caen in the evening. Would be a good base for exploration of D-day beaches.
food and service in the restaurant was excellent; room was comfortable; private parking was available a small complaint was no lift
Very clean rooms and helpful staff Room we booked was supposed to be a superior triple room but it was very small. There were no drawers, tea making facilities, fridge or even any hooks behind doors.
Friendliness of the staff and the food in the restaurant. We booked for a one night stop over on our way further down to Brittany. Found on Google and thoroughly recommended to anyone for all types , families, couples etc. n/a
The friendley and helpfull staff were superb from reception to check out. Nothing was too much touble for the and everything was done with a smile. Not a complaint but a sign of our getting older but the bedroom lighting was dim. probably no problem during the summer but on a cold and wet autumn evening it was a bit of a struggle.
Close by to the ferry port. Good breakfast Hard pillows and no shower, just a shower head attached to the bath taps with no wall attachment
although slightly late for breakfast we were made welcome and fresh supplies added to themobility problems existing choice. On arrival staff noticed that I had problems with the stairs and carried our luggage to our room, and in the morning took it to our car. The main approach to reception is via a flight of external stairs which anyone with mobility problems would find a little daunting. There is of course no lift and the same problem would apply.
