Pros: Ideal location- just two minutes walk into the centre of Heswall. The inn is in a raised position and our upstairs room had big windows looking out onto the garden and trees. It was like being in a treehouse, albeit a posh one! Excellent breakfasts and we had a tasty dinner. All the staff were very friendly. It was our first time in Wirral and a cleaner gave us some tips on the best beaches. There was no excessive noise from the downstairs bar. We would stay here again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and attentive. We arrived late due to a horrendous journey and even though the bar was packed as we entered, we were straightaway directed to where we could check in. We were taken up to our room within minutes and they even carried my suitcase for me. The room itself was spotless with a lovely ensuite. My partner went downstairs to order some drinks whilst we got ready and even though it was really busy, he was served straightaway. Location was great and only a few minutes walk into town. Breakfast the next day was lovely and we both ordered a full English :). Fully recommend here if you are looking for a great value, friendly and clean place to stay. Loved it!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a wonderful stay. The Inn was easy to find and brilliantly located for Hoylake etc. It was very popular with a good crowd in on a Saturday night, but it wasn’t too noisy and remained comfortable. The room was big, comfy and clean, and had a good view. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent- lots of choice and exceptional quality. We loved it and will definitely be back again.
Cons: Not much to grumble about - everything was great! The only very minor point might be that we checked in at peak time on Sat evening and it was a bit busy to fight our way to the bar. This wasn’t an issue, though, just an observation.

Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa - Wirral - Building
10
9.0 Excellent (996 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa in Wirral, you'll be on a lake, within a 15-minute drive of Blue Planet Aquarium and Ness Botanic Gardens. Featured amenities include a business center, express check-out, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.9 Good
Pros: Visited for the fantastic, relaxing spa, but our hotel room was also very nice, newly decorated and very comfortable. The spa and bistro staff were very friendly and welcoming. The outdoor jacuzzis are idyllic and it's lovely to be able to order drinks out to the jacuzzi. The spa has excellent changing facilities, including great showers, hair dryers, large lockers, and shower gel and shampoo, if needed. Breakfast is buffet style and you can help yourself. There's a selection of cooked and continental breakfast. The local sausages, fresh fruit and homemade granola were highlights.
Cons: Adding breakfast for two made a reasonable room rate quite expensive. The breakfast buffet was good, but I had expected more for the price, e.g. perhaps a wider selection of types of eggs, higher quality and better presented continental options like larger, freshly baked pastries and bread (for toast) or some more creative options like eggs benedict or pancakes. (I think there may have been some interesting a la carte options but this wasn't offered to us.) Service was slow for tea, coffee and toast. Bathrobes and slippers seemed to be available with some room rates but not others. These would have been welcome for the spa. It's a little walk along long corridors from the rooms to the spa, but not too far.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice and clean
Cons: Expensive to stay
7.1 Good
Pros: Excellent restaurant very convenient location
Cons: It was quite noisy on Saturday night Sunday morning also security was very poor people could access certain rooms without going through main reception & a number of the side doors were unlocked with card key required to enter
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Facilities. Staff are extremely professional and welcoming.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The spa was amazing, one of the best I've been to, the staff were so nice, polite and helpful. The outside jacuzzis were just an added touch. The thermal area was a fav, from the infra red chairs the the ice cave!! The rooms where lovely, clean, spacious and very comfy night sleep. Breakfast was delicious (not normally a fan of buffet) but everything was really fresh and could have food to order if wanted. Tapas in a hotel what a fantastic idea! We loved this, was really good food. The staff were fantastic and efficient. Loved that the main bar had raspberry vodka, made my night :) Every room was decorated excellent and very in keeping. The conseiquege showing us to our room was so nice, very polite.
Cons: Only criticism would be non usage of the spa from 11am the following day of check out. In all hotels I've ever stayed this has never been an issue before. I think £15 each after paying £210 is abit unfair. Especially as we had a later arrival due to work commitments, so didn't get full advantage of a fab spa.
4.6 Okay
Cons: Very disappointed with the hotel. We assumed we would be staying in Thornton Hall itself, not the cheap extension away from the Hall, staying in a little room on the ground floor walking out on to a car park, when we asked to be moved they said we can move but it’ll be an extra £50. It felt like the hotel were trying to get extra money at every given opportunity. From the £10 an hour late check out option to the charging of little items like ear buds/vanity kits which usually come as standard with other hotels. Even after we very first booked with booking.com I received an email immediately after from Thornton Hall asking me to cancel with booking.com and book directly with them instead (which would’ve been an extra £100!). Very off-putting to say the least, I’ve never stayed in a hotel where they have been penny pinching like this!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel in fantastic grounds with excellent staff.
Cons: Nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: all Staff very good particularly the breakfast girls. Lovely pool. Very nice rooms, better than they looked in the pictures.
Cons: Toilet flush was too hard, would be difficult for elderly or people with arthritis. Car park is so busy and full, walking from rooms to health spa was tricky unless you walked around the inside of the hotel, which was a long way.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The overall experience of Thornton Hall was fabulous. Couldn't fault it at all. Great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a lovely stay. Room was clean and well presented. The spa was wonderful with a snow room and infra red wall. Staff were lovely, especially Julie on the spa reception who helped us out.
Cons: Nothing

Cons: There was a metal bath and although a rubber mat was supplied it was still very slippery. I came very close to breaking a leg or worse as I tried to step in to have a shower. Consequently no shower. The pillows were too soft. I could not get my favourite channel on TV and it kept freezing.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent standard of room and furnishings. Gardens wonderful. Breakfast excellent.
Cons: Supplement prices on set menu - 2 of 5 starters and £8 supplement for an 8oz sirloin
8.8 Excellent
Pros: location beautiful breakfast good staff excellent and friendly
Cons: in room twelve and could hear everything from next door (soundproofing}
7.0 Good
Pros: The outside of the building is simply stunning, the staff are so attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. The lady on reception was always smiling, the young lad behind the bar was a little confused when I asked for a non alcoholic cocktail as it’s not something they normally serve, however he was soon googling recipes and making them up for me. The bed was super comfy, and the towels and robes were extra fluffy! We stayed in room 1, and it was gorgeous - and very clean!
Cons: Some furnishings, particularly in the bar area could do with updating. I understand that the furnishings need to be in keeping with the style of hotel however feel that some furniture, for example the sofas are borderline scruffy now as they are very old.

6.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was lovely, great selection of freshly prepared hot and cold options. Lovely staff too which brightened my morning!
Cons: I have stayed at the hotel a few times in really nice rooms. This stay was in a room that has not yet been refurbished and it really was not up to the standard of the others. I understand it's due to be upgraded soon.
7.5 Good
Pros: Room was lovely
Cons: Staff didn't know what they where doing or how to do the job, didn't even speak English
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Its by the sea.
Cons: I was allotted to three different rooms - the first two, on the 3rd floor, already had guests in when I unlocked the door with my key! This was tiring, embarrassing and frustrating. When I did enter a room which was finally unoccupied, there were ginger pubic hairs in the bath and black head hair on the wall of the bathroom. The bath panel had many areas where it was broken and sharp and I caught my toe on it and cut my toe open. The ceiling tiles were stained and broken. I would like to know if any of these contained asbestos fibres as per your asbestos register. The room had a door which meant it could be used as a family room, noises and smells from the guests next door travelled through easily and I was disturbed by their strong perfumes and general conversation as I could hear every word and despite them talking at a normal conversation volume. This obviously disturbed my stay but also disturbed my sleep. Breakfast the next day was accompanied by many guests wearing pyjamas. A cooked fish option such as haddock, would have been nice. Upon walking around the grounds I found many unsightly areas that made me feel I had paid a large amount of money to stay at a low standard establishment
10.0 Excellent
