Great location, historic building, and authentic interior features of a bygone era. The staff are courteous and helpful. Bedding and furniture are tired and there is no sitting area to speak of, and no chairs in the smaller rooms. The continental breakfast is spartan. You can order breakfast but this wasn't really clear and there were no wait staff around.
From the street and Internet, a very cute and appealing historical hotel. The lobby looked period and I was excited for my stay. It went downhill from there. It took me going in the pub after 10 minutes of bell ringing to find someone who could check me in. The shower had rust and mold. Was told Continental breakfast would be set up in am. Not so. Front desk person told us they decided no breakfast since only one lady was staying there. I was the lady. She did offer to get mne something from the back, but I overheard her griping to the cook that now she had to do everything because breakfast had not been put out. Did not feel welcome here at all.
Entering the hotel is like stepping back in time. All the furnishings, the décor, and the ambiance call back to a more genteel time. Even down to the worn chenille bedspread and hand made quilt. We are used to traveling using "modern" motel chains. This was a pleasant break. And since it was our wedding night after 34 years of being together and finally being able to legally celebrate our love, it was especially appreciated. The staff was wonderful. No elevator. Couldn't stay more than one night due to difficulty traversing stairs.
We especially enjoyed the bar and restaurant. Great bartenders and everyone was very friendly. We love to stay at this hotel on our way up north.
The location was a perfect halfway break in our road trip. The staff was friendly, and the food in the restaurant and pub was solid and reasonably priced. This is a great place to enjoy the Shenandoah Valley on a budget.
