It's a good location on the island.
The Cottages where we stayed are on a winding street with no beach access or any outlet. You had to drive whereas you can bike most anywhere else. Also, there are no bike paths along about 1/3 mile of that road, which made it very dangerous for our kids.
Our recent stay at Spinnaker resort on Hilton Head Island was in a beautiful area with a golf course out back past the pond, less than a hundred yards away. The pond was definitely a point of interest with turtles, fish, many different kinds of birds, flowering plants and even a young alligator that kept my camera active much of the time. Our lodgings were within a couple of hundred yards of the beach where numerous people were enjoying the warm weather and warm water. There were people surfing, playing in the water, sunbathing, people watching, watching the kids using their new inflatable rafts (one was a manta ray) and all sorts of skim boards, belly boards or young kids just body surfing. After a day at the beach, and more pix of Allie, there was a 50” TV that I could stick my SD camera card in and review all the pix I had taken that day. Seeing them on such a large screen really brought out the detail and made it easy to decide which ones were keepers. It also got us into a ‘who took the best pic’ contest (my companions also had SD camera cards) with no clear winners, since everyone seemed to focus on different sites during the day (except for Allie and I declared myself the winner there). There were many markets near by if we wanted to cook in and there were also lots of restaurants, bars and places for the kids to enjoy. During our three day stay there we enjoyed an art show, visited the lighthouse, went to the beach all three days and we were advised from family we were visiting to go to eat at ‘Chef David’s Roastfish & Cornbread’ (70 MARSHLAND ROAD, HILTON HEAD SC,29926) for some cooking steeped in Gullah-Low Country tradition. I had the whole flounder and it was delicious. To sum up, I recommend a stay at Spinnaker resort and am sure that with all the beach activities, golf, tennis, nightlife and excellent restaurants this will be a trip to remember, even if you don’t meet Allie the pond Queen (King?).
