Pros: Breakfast was what you would expect from a top quality country pub/restaurant. We really enjoyed it. The rooms were spacious especially the en-suite shower room, and clean.
Cons: The TV in one of the rooms didn't work properly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything - the bar/lounge with good selection of drinks. The restaurant was great with a varied menu and good service. The bedroom was so comfortable with excellent en-suite. Breakfast was super. Victoria looked after us throughout our stay and was so helpful.
Cons: Hard to identify anything to improve the visit
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent food and staff, will definitely stay again.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We had a full restaurant evening meal which I thought exceptional. Very tasty food well presented and cooked. In addition, the wines were fine and not overpriced and the steak knife was the most efficient I have had provided for many a year. Exceptional eating standards.
Cons: I cannot understand why any hotel only provides one armchair for a double room. Also the toilet seat was low and old bodies like mine needed handles suitably positioned to allow a dignified ablution. I thought I had paid some money up front but the hotel had no record. Please check my account with you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food exceptional, location perfect, reception from staff very friendly and helpful. couldn't do enough for you. room very clean with nice decor and well equiped and presented shower room.
Cons: Nothing to dislike
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything at ground level, so nice and easy access, plentiful parking. The setting in the ‘chocolate box’ village with the unusual church tower almost opposite added to the ambiance
Cons: N/A
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely little place in the middle of no-where. Our room wasn't quite ready on arrival (only because the manger had to gain access to the loft space to reset the wifi) but we enjoyed a drink in the garden whilst waiting. We were made to feel very welcome. The room was nice and spacious. Very comfortable bed. The bathroom was enormous and very clean with products in the shower and in the bathroom area. We had a meal in the evening which the manager had emailed previous asking if we wanted to book a table which was a lovely touch. The food was absolutely superb ! outstanding in fact. We were looked after by a lovely waitress and chatted to the manager (Victoria) after the meal. She was lovely and friendly and seemed to enjoy owing the pub/restaurant. A little gem of a place which we will return to
Cons: the only issue I had as that it was very hot but with the window open I could hear to air-con unit so a fan in the room would be a good idea.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff at The Barrington Boar went above and beyond. We have lots of dietary requirements which were seen to without any fuss. They helped with our taxis when we were stuck. Would highly recommend staying here when visiting this lovely area of the country.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff. Room and bed were comfortable and clean. Our evening meal was beautifully cooked and excellent quality. The bar had excellent range of real ales and good selection of wines. All in all we had a very enjoyable stay and would go back.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: We came by this place by accident and boy are we glad we did! Fabulous accommodation, wonderful gardens & the most extraordinary & interesting hosts in Caroline & Alan (& Sam the very friendly dog!) We had the Butterfly room which was large, beautifully furnished with super comfy bed & the breakfast choice was vast & freshly cooked. You know sometimes you alight upon a place that feels so 'right' you immediately want to buy it? - well this is definitely one of those! We had a fantastic time & would return in a heartbeat... but Sshhh....best keep it a secret! Thank you so much - Jon & Sarah

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our second visit this year - previous was in January 19. Caroline and Alan our hosts are friendly, helpful and very interesting people! The house and rooms offered are elegant, beautifully furnished with antiques and paintings. Breakfast is all freshly cooked with superb meats, eggs (from their own chickens) fresh fruits, yoghurt and creamiest of milk, juice, wonderful coffee - and even a flask of hot chocolate for drinking at any time of the day or even at night! Log fires complete the picture to encourage you to visit during the colder months. Please do.
Cons: The house is large, rambling and comfortable (especially the sleigh King bed in the Butterfly Room) but the central heating is set for specific times. When it is not on the bedroom and bathroom can be chilly, but just wear an extra layer and yell at Alan to put it on! Especially in deep midwinter. (we visited in September which was fine)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Old Rectory is a 5 star bed and breakfast experience. Our bedroom, the butterfly room, was fantastic with a very comfortable bed and two comfortable armchairs to relax and read. Lovely views of the garden and surrounding countryside. Caroline has added very thoughtful touches to the bedroom and the lovely big bathroom. Breakfast was delicious with fresh eggs from the chickens in the garden and excellent coffee. We had a fantastic two night stay and can’t wait to go back. Both Caroline and Alan are very hospitable and interesting which made the stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommended. Only half an hour from the Jurassic Coast and close by to Montacute House. Also lots of good food nearby. We had dinner at the Lord Poulet Arms in Hinton St George. Also recommended.

Pros: Self contained oasis in the centre of town. Quiet, convenient, different. Thanks
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful but allowed for your privacy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fabulous stay. A warm welcome from the owners, even at 10pm! The annexe was a lovely relaxing place to stay. It’s much bigger than appears on the photos online. Although you wouldn’t be able to make meals in the kitchenette it had everything you needed to make a continental breakfast and cups of coffee! The orange juice ,milk, butter, cereals, yoghurts and bread was a lovely addition. Comfy sofa in the lounge area. The bed was also comfy and had lovely bedsheets. Easy to use thermostat for when the place got a bit nippy in the evening. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends.
Cons: Two small and minor things - the bathroom towels could’ve been softer and it would’ve been nice to have a little hair dryer in the room (although I’m sure if we had asked Katie would’ve let me borrow hers !)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good continental breakfast. V clean and comfortable Great location. Would return v happily.
Cons: Some more heating in the sitting room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and self contained. Includes kitchen area with fridge, toaster and microwave. We arrived by bike on the nearby trail, and locked the bikes up in a storage garage. Breakfast you make yourself from the supplied bread, jam, cereals and yogurts. Tea, coffee and milk are also supplied.
Cons: We arrived on a Sunday and found no one in the town was providing dinner. Even the 'open 7 days a week' Indian was closed, maybe because Bangladesh were playing the W'Indies at Taunton in the World Cup the next day. We found the Co-op 10 minutes before it closed, and bought ourselves some ready meals. Thank goodness we had use of a microwave.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The studio was great, clean and comfortable, just what we needed for a couple of nights stopover on the way to Cornwall.Friendly hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them . Diy continental style breakfast of cereal and bread means you can get up whenever you please. Nice big shower too. Illminster was such a lovely town too. Great evening meal at Celandines too.
Cons: Everything was just as we wanted!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cosy, comfortable home from home. Perfectly situated for our needs, close to the high street and the church where we were attending a wedding.
Cons: No criticisms. We would have liked some salt and pepper to be in the property, but this is a tiny issue and barely worth mentioning. I am a light sleeper, so darker blinds would be my personal choice, but again, this is s really small thing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Annexe was perfect in every way; it was exactly the kind of accommodation I was hoping to find. It provided everything I needed and nothing superfluous. The situation was ideal for exploring the town and finding bank, restaurants, walks, etc. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and I could make my own breakfast. The owners were available whenever I needed anything, but gave me privacy the rest of the time. Altogether a great find!

Pros: This was a wonderful B&B find. The other reviews really say it all but in summary we were made to feel very welcome and then left in privacy to enjoy a superb barn conversion. We totally enjoyed having a kitchen/diner/lounge upstairs as well as bedroom/bathroom etc downstairs - it was essentially like a home from home, set in a lovely Somerset village location. We were both on Day 1 of a decaff mission and then discovered the coffee machine! Needless to say tomorrow is going to be the new Day 1!!
Cons: It was all lovely, we were totally satisfied and very happy.

Fresh litre of milk each day, choice of yoghurts, fruit, musli, corn flakes, granola and fresh orange juice for breakfast. We had had a harrowing day and late afternoon e were sitting in the garden in the sun when the owner came out with olives in a bowl and a small table for them and our drinks. Simply charming owners, friendly, helpful efficient. We are looking for an excuse to return!
Cons: Nothing. This was simply a great place to stay. Do read the instructions for identifying the property.

Pros: Great spot for exploring the Somerset area. Friendly staff, nice restaurant, sparkling rooms. We stayed in a very cute cottage with all the necessary amenities.
Cons: Breakfast was too basic and a bit disappointing especially after having had such a nice dinner there before. The cottage was very nice but the kitchen was obviously designed by a man. Who doesn’t cook. Thank goodness I didn’t cook there. A bit more love could have gone into the garden space. Towel hanging possibilities needed as well.

Pros: Coziness of the bar and restaurant was very good. The outside tables were excellent and the garden was great The breakfast waitress was very good, very personable
Cons: The person who initially greeted us and ran the evening was very chatty and sociable with regulars but certainly not to us. It seemed to be a us and them situation. The amuse bouche were very good.

7.1 Good
Pros: Great location, pleasant welcome, good wine.
Cons: Food was very plain; the kitchen staff need to know the difference between blue and medium rare. The steak was still mooing. The menu is enormous which, for a place this size, is always a real concern. Decor is a bit shabby but the room was pleasant enough. I was woken by a phonecall from the landlord at 23:15 asking where I was and that they could only hold the room for another 15 minutes. As I'd checked in at 17:00 this was more than annoying. He mentioned it the next morning but with no word of an apology. Not exactly brilliant hospitality or organisation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great service, very clean and comfortable, fantastic menu and good food. Very friendly.
Cons: All was good.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location in the pretty little village and free parking The staff in attendance during my stay were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: It is tired and untidy. Unless I’d called in advance to make an alteration to my booking, I was not made aware that the kitchen was closed on a Monday night, and the lady I spoke to indicated that she knew there was no notification of this on the website. Fortunately there is a decent pub a short walk away. Poor value for money especially as the rate is per person and nor per room as most ‘chain’ hotels are.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly manager and staff. Nice bar and great food. Room warm and clean, despite the age of the building. Plenty of tea and coffee. Room and bathroom very spacious and bathroom had top of the range Mira shower....

Pros: Lovely location and friendly staff.

5.8 Okay
Pros: The town carnival was taking place on the day we arrives. Nice surprise and pleasant to watch.
Cons: Disappointed that the tea rooms and toy museum were closed. Guess l didn't check the dates on that one very well.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are small and well equiped and have a good bathroom, good selection of teas and fresh milk every day for your early morning tea etc. Breakfast in the morning was above average and freshly cooked.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming hostess, very comfortable cosy bed - outstanding power shower, good ambience, delicious breakfast. The room is small, but has all that you need desk/ dressing table, TV, tea/ coffee making facilities with real milk, great power shower, washbasin. Separate WC...but given the price, the atmosphere and the welcome, a very comfortable enjoyable stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly service Room was clean and comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities in room. Provided with fresh milk not little capsules of milk. Breakfast was good and freshly cooked.
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: The welcome!! The unusual character of the place. The food.t
Cons: The ambiance of the bedroom. It had everything I needed, except a toilet!!(which was just round the corner outside the room) It was marketed as en suite so I expected the toilet to be in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place, hosts were very friendly and considerate, great value for money.
6.3 Good
Pros: Breakfast was great and host was really nice.
Cons: Room felt dated, could be greatly improved with a bit of updating. Although convenient for families to have the additional single bed, the room felt really cramped (possibly as a result of 1/2 the room being low height from the roof pitch).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I had a really nice stay here. Location is ideal with good road access to Yeovil and the A303. Parking is not on site, but there is plenty of space close by and I never had any problems finding space. The single room I was in is a little on the small side, but very comfortable, with an excellent and powerful en-suite shower; WC is external, next door. Wifi was good and is extended through the property to provide a decent signal, and the internet speed is adequate for all normal use, including streaming video. Breakfast is excellent, with plenty of choice, and I felt very welcome throughout my stay.
Cons: This is of course completely out of the control of the owners, but if a mobile signal is essential, you'll be disappointed! Like so many rural locations in the UK, mobile signals are very poor in the village, and pretty much non-existent when you step inside.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The full English breakfast was big for me and cooked to order so quite fresh. There was plenty of choice with extras like cereal, toast, juices and jams. The bedroom was large and the walk in shower excellent.
Cons: I was not sure if there was food available in the evening as the pub was very quiet on a Sunday night. I did not enquire as I did not need it.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely spacious room. Superb bathroom. Great food, especially the full breakfast. Yvonne who never stopped!
Cons: Steep external stairs to the room. A very creaky bed!

Cons: Poor choice of food garden area needs tidying ..
6.7 Good
Pros: The room was bigger and nicer than expected and better than the photos led us to believe.
Cons: We requested a cot, and were charged £20 extra for it, but it came without a mattress so we ended up having to have our baby sleep on a mat on the floor instead which wasn't ideal. The breakfast was in a rather depressing neon lit room.
7.1 Good
Cons: The Breakfast was very poor, possibly the worst I have ever had in a hotel, overcooked bacon and sausage, undercooked egg - albumen not fully set

The hotel holds functions mostly on Fridays and Saturday nights, and the noise is heard in some rooms. There are rooms available away from the noise, please check when booking as this may not be guaranteed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rhys front of house, barman, waiter, was very friendly professional and efficient. Comfy bed and quiet with good parking.
Cons: Toilet was very crampt by the sink and the bathroom was very compact.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I used to visit The Shrubbery during the early 1970's with a Band I used to know from Exeter. I always liked the Hotel, and am really happy that I am now in a position to take myself off and stay there for a day or two. The Hotel has a lovely dining room and a large car park. Ilminster itself is quite small, but very pretty and well worth a walk around. The surrounding countryside is lovely, and there are National Trust properties to visit nearby.
Cons: Not sure there is anything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The parking was spacious and free, The reception and welcome, checking in was really professional and staff friendly and polite. The reception area was nicely refurbished as was the lobby, also all parts of the hotel. We recieved a room upgrade, nice gesture and much appreciated. All staff were brilliant, polite, giving a great first impression of the hotel. The reception staff, bar staff, cleaning staff, all staff were smartly dressed and well presented, as was all areas of the hotel very clean and well presented also. Breakfast, was in a boutique style dining room, immaculate and everything well presented.A very good Breakfast, well done. All breakfast, was served very professionally, staff couldn't do enough, really thoughtful and caring to everyone's needs, a credit to the hotel. A very good choice and selection, not buffet style,as in some other Best Western hotels, we've stayed at. This was a nice experience with waitress service, well managed and our Breakfasts arrived hot, very well presented with choices of toast, offered. would highly recommend this hotel, A very nice stay.
Cons: There was nothing negative.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely. Plenty of places to walk our dogs. The room was a good size and it was very clean.
Cons: We think the bed has caved in on one side under the mattress so the bed felt uneven. Bacon for breakfast could've been cooked for longer to render the fat down a little. These are minor things, overall very happy.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Excellent staff very attentive and helpful.
Cons: Very small shower, bed not very comfortable, bright green light on exit sign in room lit up room all night. Could not make tv work properly. Good location near station but nothing else in area.
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing, very poor reception. and breakfast time was very poor. Did not know what to do for the 3 children for breaKfast. We said possibly scrambled eggs. The chap said not sure if can accommodate that request, but will try!!!.the whole place needed a good clean and freshen up. The water for the tea in the room tasted tinny...disgusting. far too much to pay for what we had, and the uncleaniness of the whole place.
Cons: 1, Everything, not very helpful and quite rude. 2, rusty radiators and where we sat down to eat was very dirty. 3, certainly would not recommend this place to stay.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Staff on second night very friendly. Location of hotel was great for walking to a wedding, the only reason it was selected.
Cons: On arrival, we were not informed of breakfast times and arrived too early next morning (8am). Only had tea and toast as there was no menu and we are vegetarian. The host who greeted us didn't know whether lunch was being served or not then decided it was only evening meals (we had just travelled 4 hours). Room smelt musty. There was a cigarette butt on the bathroom floor and a huge cobweb behind the door. The lights were very dim which made shaving and makeup application very difficult. Room was very dark, not helped by dark brown wall, dark brown curtains and bedding. When we returned to hotel after walking to nearest town, hotel and bar in darkness (before 10pm); we had chosen a hotel rather than B&B to make use of bar facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Liked the room being separate to main building. Well kept beers and a large TV screen showing cricket not soccer. Very convenient for station and a comfortable walk into town.
Cons: Given that it seems to be a pub with (good) rooms, it was disappointing to be advised that the bar would shut by 10pm (and it was Saturday).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A class! Excellent in everything!
Cons: Nothing
5.8 Okay
Pros: Easy to find, easy parking, the toiletries.
Cons: The shower - went from cold to scalding. Room small.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: the staff helpful and nice
Cons: none
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and very helpful, the room was lovely and clean, breakfast was lovely! Had everything we needed over our stay.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Easy to find.
Cons: The room was small for 3 people. We had to ask for soap as there was no toiletries at all. The toilet paper was in a terrible position. The breakfast was very small. I had 3 very small pieces of mushroom, one tomato which had come out of a tin, one sausage, one rasher, one slice of toast, one hash brown, one fried egg and one tablespoon of baked beans! We overheard the landlady offer scrambled and/or boiled eggs to other guests but not to us! We had to ask for juice as the 2 jugs were both empty.

6.0 Good
Pros: Very good shower , bathroom towels etc pleasant staff
Cons: No water glasses in bedroom very small tea cups bad tv connection good breakfast
7.9 Good
Pros: Clean and bedroom lovely
Cons: It took 45 for my breakfast to be made
4.2 Okay
Pros: Close to the town centre.
Cons: Very poor breakfast. Instant coffee or a tea bag in a cup brought to your table. Atrocious cooking ! Solid hard eggs when poached. Next morning requested bacon with grilled tomato. Both served before I finished my cereal. One rasher of bacon and half a tomato. Over cooked as per the previous day. The room smelt of stale tobacco smoke. NEVER AGAIN !
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room and place was cozy. The staff were super friendly and accommodating.
Cons: The windows are old and very thin. You can hear people talking outside at the pub. But at night it was at least quiet when trying to sleep.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good WiFi with no annoying form or survey, huge TV in room was nice, spacious room, free biscuits
Cons: Had to miss the breakfast because they opened up 30mins late
7.0 Good
Pros: Very central location so easy enough to find. The room was, for the most part very good - well decorated, clean and the shower worked exceptionally well. Staff friendly & breakfast was good.
Cons: The Hotel entrance is across the courtyard from the George Pub, the reception for the George Hotel is in the Pub which is all fine. You are given a key for the main Hotel entrance door and when I entered this area there was only ambient light - there was a light floor stand/lamp but it didn't appear to have a bulb in it. Automatic lights do come on when you reach the stair case which is only a few yards from the entrance area but a welcoming light when you enter, is a small thing to rectify & it would make a difference to first impressions. The room was, for the most part very good - well decorated, clean and the shower worked exceptionally well but as I'd booked a superior room, the former is what I hoped for. However, as it was advertised as a superior room my only niggle would be - the nets on the window were clean but hung badly from the rail with a coin size hole in the middle of them, once again, something that would be easy to rectify and make a difference to first impressions.
6.7 Good
Pros: Early staff did not turn up so others had to fill in, which they did with professionalism and, when it came the breakfast was fine. Location is very central and near to where I was working. The member of staff on reception was very helpful (I did return the usb plug I was lent!), as was another member of the team who tried to get the tv to work.
Cons: TV in room worked so intermittently and with such poor reception it might as well not been in the room at all! Clearly, not opening on time for breakfast was not the best, the evening meal was a bit uninspiring but ok. Staff could have been a bit more knowledgeable/informative about parking locally when I rang before the visit, and the website could also include more on parking. Maybe consider putting at least one usb socket in each room as most people have tech they need to charge up these days However, I was very grateful for the usb plug I was lent.
7.0 Good
Pros: Bedroom was spacious and good bed
Cons: Very dated. No atmosphere. Saturday night and hardly anybody used the bar andNOBODY used the restaurant. Says it all.
