10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfy, cosy, high quality furnishings and finish throughout. Feels like place that's been renovated, and is being run with love and care. Very welcoming and accommodating to my dog. Lovely breakfast.
Cons: It was very hot weather when we stayed so had the windows open all night, which meant that we had some noise from the road in the morning. The window were double or triple glazed and seemed well sound-proofed, so under normal conditions noise would be an issue at all.

Pros: Full of character, old school house. Clean, friendly and quirky.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Very friendly reception and very accommodating to my needs!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are very friendly and they do their best to communicate with you even if they are not speaking fluent english. We were welcomed with a glass of a very tasty juice (local product) and we were given information for the most interesting places to visit in the nature park as well as a map with full explanation of the places of interest. The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Our breakfast was homemade but it was composed mostly by sweet things. Despite the fact that the B&B is in a farm with donkeys, we didn't hear those beautiful creatures at all. A very nice place if you want to go for a walk in the nature. We didn(t miss anything! We highly recommend it!
Cons: We liked everything :)
10.0 Excellent

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Welcome and willingness to help by owners
Cons: Standard double bed in our bedroom not big enough for tall people. Difficult to find the property, we had to stop and ask in a shop for directions It was hot the night we were there, hard to get the mansard bedroom cool as it was under the roof. Normally not a problem in Northern France I imagine

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely rooms, shower and set lovely grounds
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the new part of the hotel. Our room was a very good size and modern and clean and our dog was made very welcome. Some of our friends stayed in the hotel itself and said their room was very nice as well. The hotel had nice grounds to walk the dog round and the breakfast was good.
Cons: Everything about the hotel was fine but we had to get a taxi to go out for a meal as there was nothing open close by. A bar would have been nice to sit and have a drink in.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The place is great, especially the main building. On the outbuilding, the room are brand new and comfortable. the breakfast is nice and staff is quite nice.
Cons: The room in the outbuilding, although very nice, are lacking a bit of the charm that you can find in the castle. Breakfast could have more choice.
6.8 Good
Pros: Well presented Château with impeccably clean room and helpful charming staff.
Cons: The location is not pleasant and the property advert is misleading in that the gardens are small. For the price paid there were minimal facilities in the room eg no dressing gown, no hair conditioner and only a small single bin in the bathroom. Simple instructions on how to use the shower would avoid a flooded floor. We struggled to find a good restaurant nearby. We also struggled to find information on places to go walking.
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast is delicious with good homemade jam, local cheeses... Lovely bedroom the park is beautiful quiet place
9.5 Excellent
Pros: - big, clean and very comfortable rooms - great breakfast - very helpful staff that went out of their way to help (for example witty finding a way to charge my electrical car)
Cons: - nothing really. The only small point is that we missed a nice restaurant close by.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Brand new building, not in chateau but in its grounds. Very clean and safe
Cons: Hard to find much to do in the area, we did eventually find a restaurant up the hill on the right that was lovely. We chose not to eat st the hotel but it did look very nice
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A stunning property decorated in a contemporary manner but still retaining the old qualities of the building. A stunning place to stay. Immaculately clean, immaculately maintained. Really friendly and helpful staff. Well away from the road, so traffic and general town noise wasn't an issue even with the windows open.
Cons: There is no restaurant at the hotel yet, although I hear there are plans for one. It didn't matter, as there are a few places in town to eat.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A great hotel
Cons: No complaints
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast great - location similarly
Cons: Quality of nearby restaurant food

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great view from a room filled with character. Had a great stay and breakfast. Thanks.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quirky decor
Cons: Needs better signage off the main road ie: the name of the B and B would help.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unique and pretty
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Cons: No one around when we arrived. Took a bit of time to find someone. We left before breakfast even thou we asked for breakfast at 8am. We left at 8:30am without breakfast as we couldn't find anyone. This may have been a translation issue. The room was cold when we arrived and we had to ask for the heating to be put on. It's a lovely location and tastefully decorated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very comfortable and cosy. Staff really helpfull and friendly
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The bed was extremely comfortable and continental breakfast delicious, very fresh with home made jams, local cheese and apple juice. "country farmhouse" decor. Nice bar area with pool table, and lounge/hall with splendid log burner.
Cons: The hot water was very low pressure-it took ages to run a bath- and a shower was not an option, although there was a shower hose and head, there was no where to attach it to. At busy times there was not enough hot water for all rooms. Wooden floors very creaky and noisy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a great country break with my family. The rooms were comfortable and well decorated, and the lounge area had a large wood fired stove. There are horses, goats and chickens on the property and our toddler loved it. The host was very kind and accommodating. Breakfast was great and there are nice local restaurants (a short drive away). This is a very rural location, which was exactly what we were looking for. You will need a car or bike
Cons: My only criticism is that the decking was slippery when wet
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Almost everything
Cons: Even though the property was warm and cosy, there wasn't really hot water in the shower

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house was a lovely original period house, made very comfortable, and located in a quiet rural village, - the setting was very pleasant, with a view of the church and garden, we enjoyed a very relaxing stay . We were very satisfied with the accomodation, and facilities, and enjoyed the breakfast, and very kindly, by arrangement we were able to enjoy an evening meal, which was prepared for us using local produce.
Cons: There was nothing that we did not like, everything was to our liking.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Our room was huge and Matisse-themed. The bedlinen was crisp and the beds firm eyt comfortable. The bathroom was also huge and came with a shower and a tub. The breakfast was nice and served in the main dining area on a large dining table alongside other guests. There were books and comfy chairs around in case you fancied lingering around after you finished. It is a tiny village and so you might not find restaurants in the immediate vicinity and need to go out a bit further to the Lac du Val Joly area. There are a reasonably sized supermarket, a kids play area, and an antiquities shop not too far from the B&B. It was great for a night's stay and depending on your taste, might only be suited for a longer stay if you had plans to use it as a base and go further afield for entertainment.
Cons: There could have been a few more soft furnishings in the room; a few rugs perhaps and more sumptuous bedding.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly host, ample breakfast with delicious croissants, really peaceful location.
Cons: The shower wasn't too good but fine for an overnight stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and the owner was so nice.he cooked us and another couple dinner
8.8 Excellent

Cons: Nothing.
5.8 Okay
Pros: To be honest….nothing!
Cons: We asked a quiet situated room with 2 beds, because my husband has a serieus hearingproblem. The beds were very near each other .Even when there were not many quests , they put in a room next to us guests and the man was snoring so loud that my husband didn't sleep at all. There were many rooms available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: On the route we had planned plenty for parking
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, comfortable bed and a good restaurant. It is a little expensive but if you choose to stay in this area there is very little choice of accommodation or restaurants. We had a lovely meal and a good night’s sleep.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner is perfect and also the accomodation.
7.5 Good
Pros: Relais Fleuri is well situated next to the rail station and on the outskirts of Vervins town. Adequate parking is available at & near the hotel. Handy restaurant for late arrivals. The rooms are very clean and freshly decorated.
Cons: The only issue we had was that the mattresses were hard & that affected a good night sleep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner was on hand to welcome us and he was very friendly. The location is next to a train station but we did not hear any trains. The rooms are beautifully decorated and each have their own bathroom.
Cons: That we did not have time to try the restaurant.
7.0 Good
Pros: A basic but clean and compact room for an overnight stay. Restaurant at property for evening meal. Friendly staff who helped with our limited understanding of German! Helpful advice about the best route to the ferry.
Cons: Not being able to check in until 6 pm, meant waiting around for two hours, after a long journey through France. Run down local shopping area. Further from the main auto route to Calais than we thought.
Hôtel Du Château De La Motte - Liessies - Building
15
8.4 Excellent (351 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hôtel du Château de la Motte in Liessies, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Val Joly Lake and Avesnois Regional Nature Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the decor and character ambiance and identifying the rooms by flower names.
Cons: Would have liked a lift in the building to assist carrying our luggage to the room. The separate toilet was very small. We ate in the Chateau in the terrace. Which was in need of attention. ie weeds overgrown in the cobbles. There are 3 prices of menus. From €60 pp to €30. We chose a paté starter. Followed by a large piece of steak which was fatty and gristley. Which we could NOT eat. We did report it. But with the waiter having no English he didn't understand why nearly all of our meat wasn't eaten. Unfortunately during the night both my wife & I had stomach upset within half an hour if each other. Although we cannot categorically blame the even meal we had not eaten any midday lunch so therefore suspect the evening meal to be responsible. When we informed the receptionist at check out of our unfortunate illness she was sympathetic but could offer us no financial recompense as her "boss" was not there.
7.0 Good
Pros: Quiet rural location away from hustle bustle and other facilities. We had a, large room, good breakfasts each morning and staff made great efforts to understand my French and to speak in English.
Cons: The sofa bed was made up ready for our arrival, but was soon sorted by a busy member of staff. Likewise no duvet was provided until we asked for one. I should have checked what I had booked because paying 10 euro each for breakfast each day was a bit of a shock - my fault for not checking.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful, nothing was a problem. Nice walks around hotel. Nice having the extra room with sitting space.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very comfortable and the ground floor disabled room was fab. Extremely peaceful setting. As for supper, very good indeed!
Cons: All was very good, but no draught beer, only bottles
6.8 Good
Pros: Quiet place, typical food, excellent chef.
Cons: Beautiful building but lacking some care. Spiders and ladybirds in the room, handheld shower and no curtain, loud music in the restaurant.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast, location
5.8 Okay
Pros: The restaurant
Cons: Pokey room, needed some TLC
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting and building. Surrounding area very nice
Cons: Flies can be a pain, mid summer. However as it's a rural location, this has to be expected.
6.3 Good
Pros: It was just a one-night stopover, so we have not tried the restaurant and did not have time to enjoy the surroundings which seemed very attractive. The bathroom was new and well appointed, the rooms were OK for an old home.
Cons: The room was not fully ready for us upon arrival, but it was quickly remedied. Our major issue was that the property hosted an all-night party and the music and yelling lasted until 4 in the morning. Needless to say, we have not slept well. We certainly overpaid for this night of hell. I would avoid staying here again, just because this is clearly a restaurant first and only marginally a hotel, thus, making it likely that our ordeal is repeated on any night without prior warning.
5.5 Okay
Pros: lovely old building. nice rural location. room good size.
Cons: bathroom bit tatty and tired. welcome dismissive. breakfast service appalling. had to go searching for someone for hot drinks, cutlery, food run out etc.

Cons: Nothing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great rural location , very quiet , lovely gardens and surroundings . House is very nice . Rooms are airy and v clean as is the bathroom, good shower too. Dinner can be booked with the owners , which was excellent and included wine , it is a communal social affair with the owners and other guests on one big , which made for a lovely evening. We arrived on two motorbikes and they allowed us to park on the property also , location is remote and security would not be an issue
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was very quiet and scenic. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and prepared us a superb evening meal which we enjoyed in their company. Very nice people to spend an evening with.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The Lady owner offered us a welcome drink when we first arrived.
Cons: We booked a double room specified as a large double bed. We where given a twin bedded room with two single quilts and a gap in between each bed. The room had a musty smell and the bedding felt damp. There was no private entrance, only a steep awkward staircase. The facilities stated a tea and coffee maker, these facilities are NOT in the room but on a landing. There was NO desk in the room as stated. We were the only guests that night so why did we not get the room that was booked. Unable to see view from velux window.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were very well received and looked after by our hosts. Unfortunately we had overlooked to book an evening meal but despite this our hosts went out of their way to make a delicious couscous and we sat down to a very enjoyable evening meal and conversation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A friendly welcome. Because the weather was jeoparding they made foor us an excellent diner!

Cons: The owner had already taken the payment for the room off our debit card when we came to pay and we would have prefered to pay cash which wasn't an option. Be aware that you cannot get into your room until after 6pm on arrival which is rather late as this is a very isolated location.

Pros: Great room, nice host who was able to provide us with a great evening meal (at additional cost) Nice setting. We used it as a stop over whilst touring through the area, so as a one night stop it was great. Lovely evening meal and great breakfast.
Cons: Property is quite isolated, there are no bars/ pubs resturants etc within the small village.

Pros: We enjoyed a very warm welcome on this our third visit. Each time we've thoroughly enjoyed our time in this family-run hotel. The breakfast is generous & the evening menu always varied & delicious. After our meal Madame always finds time to answer questions about the local environment! Everything about le Clos de Montvinage is to our liking & we'd love to return one day.

Pros: A fully comprehensive continental style breakfast adapted to your requirements. This was my 5th visit over a period of 15 years. Pros: The location is a little bit remote, but very nice, exactly what we were looking for. The next (good) restaurant is 10min. drive away from the accommodation. The landlord was very friendly, the breakfast delicious - in summary a very relaxing stay for one night. The motorbike were locked away in the landlords garage - but even parking outside would have been absolutely safe!

Pros: Breakfast was very good and all home made. The garden was pleasant. The recommended restaurant was great.
Cons: No air conditioning made the rooms very hot. With the windows open we were pestered by flies. To be expected from a rural location but a bit annoying. No card payments accepted.

Pros: Fabulous. Everything as good as last time 2 years ago. This time though my partner came with me and she thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend break. Just what you want as a tranquil base to go watch the classic racing at Chimay.
Cons: Nothing. all good.
