Nice room, arrived a little late and everything was ready. Staff was very friemdly and helpful.\n\nRoom was nice and clean, bathroom fixtures were a little outdated and showed signs of wear but clean nontheless.\n\nBed very comfortable and room quiet. Great free breakfast. The only thing I really didn't care for was you had to use the public computer in the hotel lobby and couldn't use the WiFi in the rooms. otherwise would stay again if travelling to the same area.\n
Clogged sinks, stained linen and curtains, sticky carpet, smashed bugs on the wall. ...are just a few things on our list. Everyday we were hoping the maid would take care of the dead bugs, everyday our hopes were crushed. We did ask to get our sinks fixed and the walls cleaned, never happened. \n\nStay somewhere else. \n
My boyfriend and I visited the Orono area around the Fourth of July. He chose the hotel because of it's close proximity to the university campus. We LOVED the view from the hotel toward the river, the ability to walk downtown to restaurants and the SIP AND DIP! We chose to come back in early August, just to spend more time at the hotel and we plan on returning in November. Thanks for a great stay!
I was visiting this site to make a reservation at the University Inn because my wife and I have stayed there many times in the past and have always had very pleasant stays. We are both retired and we do a lot travel around New England and unlike many of the places we stay, the University Inn just seems to have real character and class. We find it so much nicer than those cold and sterile 'big-box' hotels. The staff there is very friendly and we have never had any trouble with plumbing. I look forward to getting back to Maine and staying at this hotel.
Plusses - Very courteus employee at front desk, TV worked satisfactorily, have VCR and videotapes you can borrow from front desk\n\nMinuses - Thin ceiling (you can hear people walking above you), too much water pressure from spigot of sink, hairs between toes when you walk on the carpet, tend to run out of milk, OJ, etc during breakfast because they are understafffed. The woman at the check-in desk is asked to wear too many hats.
I have stayed here many times over the last several years. The recent round of improvements have really made a difference. The rooms have seen significant improvements along with the lobby and common areas. Great value for the price!
A second floor balcony view looking over the green lawn and Stillwater River into downtown Orono IS a travel poster. Location, location, and the true desire to please their guests. Ten years ago this was a cheap dump to stay a night. But the new owners have made it a class act! Three impressionist renderings of Boston have replaced faded flower prints in a room we've had before. The latest upgrade has changed the bathrooms from aged chipped tiled utilitarian to faux Traverteen floors with curved shower rods and color co-ordinated decorator shower curtains. The exhaust fan is more than sufficient to keep long steamy showers from sneaking into the room. The pride of ownership shows. Day or night, the staff (including the housekeeping staff) could not be more considerate and friendly. Wifi now works in the rooms, but there is still a lack of outlets for keeping the laptop and cell phone charged. At Christmas time you shouldn't miss the floor to ceiling Christmas tree which dominates the glass walled and sunlit lobby. Having 3 kids go through U Maine we have stayed in many of the Hotels in the Greater Bangor area over the last 10 years. This is our favorite.
Having a balcony overlooking the Stillwater is a photo-op. When the fog lifted, the river was idyllic looking. I benefitted from the renovations-in-progress, and was in a spacious 1/2 suite. It was well equipped with a refrigerator, coffee pot and supplies and more. Having stayed at the U Inn many times before, I noticed the new, organic type shower curtain and the Earth Simple shampoos, soaps, etc. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I appreciate the little gym where I can walk when the weather outside is forbidding (there's an outside pool, only, so no swimming when it's negative 20 degrees outside!) Even though workmen were working on renovations in many rooms at the Inn, I never heard them (they worked very quietly and did not disturb.)
Overall, the place was shabby. Looked old and worn-out. Sheets were very thin and cheap. Shower water temperature fluctuated wildly from cold to scalding. On the positive side, the desk clerks were very friendly and helpful.
This is a great hotel - with exceptional, and professional staff. Excellent facilities and a great fitness center. Very good breakfast. Overall, a very good experience and I highly recommend this hotel.
The Inn is older and it shows it, but it was also in a pleasant locale. I really enjoyed having a patio door open to the river and despite the age, it was cleaner than the Best Western, espcially the bathroom. I also loved the soaps, and the Internet connection was good . HOWEVER: they chose to cost-cut in all the wrong areas. 1. The shower didn't work properly. Despite remodeling the entire bathroom, they kept the old pullswitch linking shower and bathtub, and the valve was long since worn away. Half the water went to the showerhead; the rest just poured down the drain. And as other reviews have noted, the 'hot' water was a misnomer. Warm water, yes, and enough of it - just. You got the feeling that the owners were trying to save money by keeping you from a long shower. 2. Do NOT stay in a 'suite', unless there are no more than two of you and you are very, very loving. The double bed is just that, a double. Cozy spooning couples would probably be ok, but it was too small for us. And the sofa 'bed' needed to be dragged out and listed in the 'free' section of craigslist. There were springs missing, some of the supports were on the wrong side, etc. We just took the entire mattress out and put it on the floor. It helped - some. I took a suite because I wanted a coffee pot - full size: a detail I appreciate - and a fridge. If they'd just put these in every room I think it would be ok. Not doing so, and the meager breakfast, leaves you feeling cheapskated. I might maybe stay again, but not in a suite, and not without a coffee pot.
Thank you for being so helpful even my daughter left her stuffed Wolf. You kept it safe for our return. Just a little dated. And the breakfast was not the best but I was surprised that Super 8 even had it so that was nice.
Amazing quality for great price. To be honest I was expecting a lot less due to how much I was paying. I was wrong. Nice rooms and comfy beds. One staff member was a little rude and didn't come off as very knowledgeable. Made offense comments about political and social issues.
Very nice motel. The updates they are doing are very nice. The rooms are very clean and big. Staff was amazing Bathroom too small. I could not shut door
The rooms were nicely decorated, the bed was extremely comfortable, and it was far enough back from the road that it was nice and quiet. The only thing was the showerhead was a little too low. We are both pretty tall and we had to slouch a little. But the shower itself was great.
The location was great, close to restaurants and attractions. The room was very comfortable and quiet. Free breakfasts were not offered . For the smoking section which was outside, thre was not a place to empty the ashtrays that were provided. My husband thought it was rather odd. Other than that the stay was great.
The area, the staff and the space No
A small local hotel. Clean comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Like the room decor. Would stay there again. Did not have some of the amenities of the large chain hotels. Such as: Free breakfast, coffeee in the rooms, and multiple electrical outlets.
It was clean. Everyone friendly. While not fancy-which wevwetentvseeking- it was comfortable and nice No

The owner was very friendly, and room was very clean. Nothing
Gave me a 10% discount because I was there on business. They were very polite and the room was immaculate. Some different than another place there in Bucksport that I spent the night at.It was nasty.I will definitely come back to this place again!
This hotel is clean and comfortable. Owners are very nice. Great price.
Unexpectedly lovely stay July 2015, 2 nights.Location allows sightseeing in nearby Maine coast areas. Eat at the Riverview Grille outside, delightful, and don't miss Carrier's outdoor (or 'in') lobster-clams-burgers joint just up the road 'a-piece'.
Super clean,goor location
This is just a cheap hotel. No shampoo provided. Cable television came in awful. No cups provided. Tacky and terrible furniture. Price is only good thing.
The bed was so uncomfortable
Nice place great price and very nice front desk employee. The room could have been better cleaned. Floors were dirty and pulled the covers down and found a bug so I slept on top of the covers
Wood floors. Much more preferable to carpet. The best shower pressure in my entire trip. Really good shower experience. Really fast WiFi internet. Loud air heating unit. But unit is cold if turned off. Loud neighbors upstairs.
Location was great for our next day trip to Canada. We could travel with our dogs and places to eat were nearby. It is a very basic motel but it met our needs.
Clrean, looks good like new, minimum facilities, no service,
