great romantic rooms. Good location near the beach. Parking was a little bit tricky, but at no cost. Nice little town. Rooms are clean, well decorated and big enough. English spoken !
the staff were very friendly and helpful
Madame Jean, is more like a hostess than the proprietor of the hotel. She is extremely helpful, most accommodating, and thoroughly charming! The hotel is well located and a very pleasant place with a "family" feeling. There is no elevator. However on our arrival Madame Jean insisted on taking our cases and carrying them up to the second floor herself. And when she heard me coming down the stairs with my suitcase bumping on each step, she immediately came up and brought it down for me.
Excellent location and friendly atmosphere. Pretty garden area.
The owner and staff were excellent. They made you very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
I liked the hotel alot. I went for Omaha beach but it was too far away (entirely my fault obviously). Good place though
the hostess was very welcoming and helpful.
Ok for one day stay. shortage of hotel staff.
Nice hotel, very close to the main street in Deauville and to the beach. Very thin walls, so you can hear what is going on in neighbouring room. Unpleasant smell in room coused by wrong working sewage system.
Good location, friendly staff The smell in the badroom
The location of the Hotel is superb as it is one block back from a main road so nice and quiet, and the owners treated us very well. The beds are a little on the hard side, but we had no problems with this, but I'm sure other people might.
Very convenient location, close to Deauville’s high street and the beach. Rooms clean and tidy, owners very polite and helpful. Overall a very enjoyable stay at the Hotel du Polo, we look forward to coming back in our next trip to Deauville. It would be great to have some non-French channels in the bedroom's TV.
The room was nice and clean. Houskeeper cleaned it in the morning, but didn't change the linen. The price was ridiculously high for a room with shared toilets
the location was very good and the staff was fair only the langque differance was a problem (not a lot of english)
friendly staff, big room, clean and tidy. it is quite noisy, i'd improved the isolation
easy to find, relaxed, unfussy, very clean, pleasant dining room, very friendly and helpful staff. Also located in a quiet street just off the main boulevard quite near the race course. Excellent boulangerie just around the corner.
There was no toilet in the room
+staff, ambiance of a hotel -Breakfast was way too expensive for what it was, smell in a room
Breakfast was very good Dark room that smelled of stale tobacco smoke. No provision to hang shower head on wall in cshower cubicle.
The hotel and location were perfect for our needs. The staff was very helpful. My only comment would be the price of breakfast -- I think that it was very expensive for a light continental breakfast.
The hotel is really very French in decor, the staff are helpful and everywhere was very clean. The standard of housekeeping was excellent. The a/c in both the rooms where we stayed was very noisy, in very hot weather this would be a great disadvantage.
the hotel was conveniently placed for the town and had the benefit of having its own private car park. the room was clean and comfortable & the air conditioning was a bonus the hotel promotes itself as "chic & contemporary" sadly it does not quite work and has a slightly awkward cold feel with the room we were in lacking any character .... even contemporary. I also feel the lack of a shower in any of the rooms doesn't sit well with the modern "contemporary" image the hotel seeks.
Pleasant clean room in the heart of Deauville; convenient for racecourse, shops, restaurants and beach, with parking available. Breakfast charges are too high - so we didn't partake.
Beautiful modern design bedrooms, stylish common rooms. Excellent free wifi, good tv. Separate wc. Of street parking for 8 euros/day (although not really necessary in off season). Booking.com price better value (although rooms are expensive noting the flaws). The lack of a showers in all rooms is unacceptable for a top quality hotel. No inner lock on room. No 'do not disturb' signs. No safe. No waste bin in bedroom. Your reviews warned that the basic breakfast for 14 euros is over-priced, so we did not take it. I chose a room a the rear,as your reviews warned me correctly that rooms at the front would be noisy.
friendly staff and ease of access as well as good value for money
Very friendly staff, clean, and a convenient location for Normandy business school where my daughter is studying. Also located next to Buffalo Grill which was excellent. Nothing
good location for Normandy Beaches No frills
Overall the hotel was clean, The staff was helpfully Hotel returant wasn't open on the weekends and holiday so it made it hard to find a resturant for dinner.
staff were very helpful generally, hotel was very quiet and located very conveniently just off the Caen ring road.Parking wasavailable right outside my window as it happens, and was free and secure. Not really, the room fittings could have done with a few simple repairs, eg the shower riser clamp for the shower head did not retain the shower head in position, consequently the shower head slid down the rail of its own annoying accord. Also Tea / Coffee kit in room had no milk. Hotel had no maps available for the Normandie beach areas, which is a bit strange as its allegedly a popular hotel for visitors to that area??
Hotel in need of investment. Bar area poor, and the restraunt claiming variety of cuisine was inaccurate. Would not recommend hotel to any family seeking accomodation in Caen as there are no facilities in the hotel or in the vicinity of the hotel for families.
The staff were very helpful and really polite and the breakfast was good It was a bit noisy and the view wasn't that great but then it was also very cheap so you get what you pay for!
Very close to the tram stop - tram goes into the city centre and you can leave the car at the car park.
Rooms were spacious and conveniently located next to a Buffalo Grill. Probably could do with a refurb.
The hotel was very easy to find from the directios given, only a matter of minutes from the motorway.. On arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful with an excellent understanding of English - far better than my French. The rooms we booked were clean and comfortable - ideal after a days travelling. If needed the bar is open 24/7!! Although there was tea and coffee facilities in the room there was no milk, reception was unable to supply. The dining room was not open as it was a Saturday night - however I can thoughly recommend the Buffulo Grill 2 minutes walk away.
The Manager was very friendly and helpful. The location in Caen harbour is excellent. The rooms were clean and comfortable. No
free wi-fi, position
Bars / restaurants on both sides of the hotel = a significant amount of noise.
The hotel Courtonne was in an excellent location for our 1 nights stay, nearby Resturants were very convenient, double room although very clean was small and it was a very small double bed, very friendly and helpful staff It is in a town, so noise of people having a party in nearby appartments could be heard into the early hours of the morning
Warm welcoming staff and a comfortable room at a low cost
Was accommodated in annex across road. Very modern and stylish and quiet comfortable room. Excellent restaurant with some reasonably priced dinner menus. Had several very enjoyable dinners. Central location for touring the British sector of Normandy D-Day action, and easy drive to American sector if have car. The very modern bathroom still required standing precariously in an inadequately screened bathtub to take a shower. Difficult and dangerous for older people and end up with a very wet floor. I was told no walk-in showers. Pity!. Also found the breakfast disappointing, two petit pains and a croissant plus coffee was your allotted portion. No buffet offered.
Stayed one night only. Hotel is ideally located for the Ouistreham ferry terminal. It is a short walk away from the Pegasus Bridge and museum. Hotel is a motel style, rooms are clean. Rooms are small and a little claustrophobic. Double bed is small by French standards. There is no courtesy tray, but there is a small ( poorly stocked) fridge. Restaurant is very expensive and out of keeping with the overall motel style accommodation. Nearest budget restaurant is at Pegasus Bridge, although hardly cheap. No bar facilities.
The politeness of the young couple who run it . Such a difference compared to England . !!!
Very pleasant stay. Would use again.
From the front, the hotel is quite pretty. Convenient for early ferry to UK from Caen. Bathroom was spacious and clean. Beaches are surprisingly pretty and sandy. The apartments to the rear of the property are somewhat square and characterless compared to the main hotel building. The double bed was harder than we're used to. Gravel path to the apartments a little noisy. The nearest seaside restaurants are about 2km away - better to drive if you have kids.
WIFI for free, friendly welcome and breakfast service small room, shower room moldy
It was a convenient location The hotel was of poor quality. Gave the impression of being run down. Badly in need of refurbishment. Not good value for money. Disappointed
Delightfully warm welcome from the proprietor, who was discreetly attentive throughout our stay. Basic but comfortable family room. Simple but well-chosen breakfast buffet. Easy walk to local shops and restaurants - and the beach. The bathroom has a shower but no curtain.
Near to the beach
Very friendly, comfortable and clean. No bad points to comment.
We found this hotel to be totally what one would not expect. It was quiet and relaxing and certainly a place we would re-visit.
Spacious clean rooms. Very luxury hotel at a very low price as they have great offers on booking.com. The nature around the hotel is wonderful! The staff is friendly and helpfull. The prices for mini bar, breakfast etc are way too high! One cappucino costs 9 Euro!
Excellent setup. Great place in the countryside. The bed rooms (and especially the beds) are very comfortable.
The very relaxing ambience of the hotel and standard of comfort provided. The staff were also extremely helpful and the buffet breakfast was very comprehensive, although a little expensive at 18 Euros. The fact that the Restaurant was closed on both Sunday and Monday Evenings which forced me to drive into Deauville to eat.
The staff were welcoming, and very relaxed and helpful. The ambience of the hotel was delightful - it was situated in peaceful and attractive countryside, and was a beautiful and interesting building. The room was lovely, quiet with a good view and had a luxurious feel. The facilities were excellent, bar (indoor and outdoor), restaurant, 3 tennis courts, indoor swimming pool with adjacent outdoor sunbathing/relaxing area, table tennis, pool table.
The design of the hotel was superb - we hadnt realised until we arrived that they were modern buildings but the use of timber and the layout was very impressive. The food was excellent and all the staff were exceptionally professional and very welcoming. I had been concerned, reading some of the reviews, that the staff would let the place down, but that wasn't the case! Very badly behaved child in the restaurant rather spoiled our dinner but I suppose there is not a lot the hotel can do about that!
Lovely Hotel. Very Expensive. Menu in French only and nobody spoke English in the evening so had to guess what to order.
Nice location in quiet setting. Beautiful grounds. First rate buffet breakfast. Strong smell of paint in our room (difficulty sleeping). Hotel was almost empty during, so probably could have given us an other room that was not freshly painted. Dining was closed during our stay.
location is really good, calm place, park. Good swimming pool
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. It was quiet. Comfortable. Nicely decorated. No facilities for making drinks (we British love our tea!)
Lisieux is an excellent middle point to visit Normandy- D day beaches, Mt Saint Michel, etc. The Best Western is in the center of this very cute little town and has excellent service and rooms. We loved the three nights we spent there.
Extremely good central location in Lisieux. Good sized comfortable rooms and decent facilities. Breakfast was varied and would cater to all tastes.
grande chambre. very agreeable with not expensive price
Very central location with plenty of parking space across the road from the hotel Bedroom could do with a bit of redecoration / modernisation
Very good overnight stay during our journey south west, 2 rooms booked for mine and my friends family, all 8 of us pleased.
Location, good quality-price relationship Problem with wireless in the room (I had to go to connect to reception), a little bit old fashioned hotel not luxurious but right and clean for the price paid. Good service at reception desk
We had a lovely light and spacious family room with a large bathroom with bath and shower. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, quite noisy at night and warm as it is not air conditioned
Close to city centre Rooms in need of updating
Complicated system of registration in hotel and getting of the rooms. Registration number I've got from booking.com was too much long and didn't allow to take rooms without an emergency call.
value for money remote from night life
Receptionist moved our rooms so we could be near our motorcycles for added security. No tea/coffee facilities in rooms,
Very handy to reach the early Portsmouth ferry from Caen.
Very cheap If you control the adress and change it as it is in the Premiere Classe Hotels Catalogue it will be easier to travel by car and find it. And also if you can confirm the name you reserve the hotel for us it will make it easier to check in with machine.
Dreadful - I have stayed at numerous budget hotel chains in France - including Premier Class - and I like to think I have a good idea of their good and bad points, but this one was in a class of its own. The automated check in didn't work properly. My son and myself must have spent ten minutes in freezing weather ( 10.30 at night) trying to get in. I didn't have a choice about the arrival time as I had just arrived on the ferry from Portsmouth like many of your guests. Freezing cold - like a minute prison cell and about as welcoming. Never again!
price really, really small - the hotel staff were gruff and borderline rude
Close to main road with adequate shopping and dining facilities nearby Could d with a spruce up, neons not working a lick of paint here and there
although budget hotel the room was clean and comfortable not much ventilation in room - too hot
cheap bunker like, small, miniscule shower.
The atmosphere of the bigginings of the 20th century Everything was perfect
The spacious accomodation, especially the well apppinted bathroom Menu choice for evening meal was limited if not dining in the Etrier
Had a sea view which was nice. Very friendly and polite staff. Spacious room. Outdoor swimming pool. Fitness room way too small. No kettle in the rooms so no possibility to make a cup of coffee/tea. Rooms need some fixing, a few scratches on the wall, at the bottom of the doors, etc...This is disapointing for a luxury hotel. Breakfast far too expensive (30 euros!!).
The view, and the excellent meal we had at you top micelin resturant. No
very nice beautiful hotel
everything was perfect, service, restaurants nothing found
An all-around great place to stay when in Deauville!
Very good staff with a friendly and not at all stuffy approach. Excellent concierge staff (large gentleman with moustache been with the hotel for 16 years) who parked my Bristol with the care it deserves and aranged for a valet! Good location within easy walking distance of the beach and the many restaurants in the town. Nice lounge area for a drink before dinner. Good spa which gave a nice facial for my lady friend on one of the mornings. Overall a really great hotel for a short break. Nothing at all. Some might say it is not cheap, but then you are staying in the nicest hotel in the town.
nothing as the price of drinks totally spolied my stay The price of 4 drinks at the pool gin & tonic, vodka & coke, martini & lemonade 26 euro each and a cognac & coke 27 euro total cost of 4 drink 105 euro. This is robbery. We also stayed this week at the Victoria Jugfrau 5 * 7 similar drinks came to 62 euros(85 CHF) & The Hilton Evian les Bain 4*, the same 4 drinks 42 euros.
Friendly staff, proximity to the Memorial. Tiny twin bed room that only barely had enough room for one small table, so one bed had no bed side table. In fact the room was so small that the curtains couldn't be pulled across without moving the one bed. Ridiculous. Plastic coated mattress covers meant very little sleep due to discomfort until we realised what it was that was making the beds so bad. Pre-fabricated shower-room.
The lady who checked us in was very pleasant, helpful and friendly. She also served us dinner and again was charming.
location of the hotel for visiting the normandy beaches which was the main purpose of our visit. Free parking on site very convenient. family room consisted of 2 rooms with interconnecting door. rooms adequate for our needs. kids delighted with free WIFI. did not get breakfast as 7 euros per head added 35 euros to our budget. Maybe if they offered croissant and drink for 3-4 euros we would have availed of it!
Good location, easy to find. Restaurant open to 9.30 pm which is not always the case in similar hotels we have stayed at and helpful as we didn't arrive until 8.45 pm The shower screen was too short and as a consequence the bathroom floor became very wet
Excellent value for money Perfect location for Caen centre and roads out Good food Welcoming and helpful front desk staff Convenient parking Cleaning the bedrooms needs to be a little more thorough(dust under the beds) Breakfast counter is rather crowded Hot water for tea and coffee needs to be filled up more frequently at breakfast time
It was easy to find and close to the memorial. No one spoke much English. And good luck to you if you need to do laundry while staying there. No one could tell me where there was a laundromat.
The beds were very comfortable and staff were helpful. The location is a long way from downtown Caen.
Very reasonable restaurant. Food of good quality. Friendly staff. Rooms small but adequate for the purpose.
very near to the war museum. you need transport to stay here.
Restaurant very good, though wine was a little expensive for what was offered. Reception staff very obliging. Cleaning staff courteous and did a very good job. Room was tired and shower did not work properly, there were better rooms in the hotel and I would have preferred this option when booking. Hotel was unable to offer a better room on arrival because it was full.
wonderful staff, great location for St. Therese sites
the staff were competent and friendly. it was very central to all the sites
Hotel meal was very good and staff were friendly and helpful No bad points really
The efficiency and friendliness of the staff no
Externally the hotel is like a factory unit but inside it's an oasis of charm and refinement. The hotel has a famous restaurant which, alas, is closed on Sunday nights.
The courteus and cooperative attitude staff, quality of the restaurant, good service, parking Slow, almost unusable WiFi internet in the rooms
Very pleasant, relaxing 3 night stay. Very quiet, as our room was located at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. (There were not may other guests staying while we were there.) The location is good if you have a car, both for the city centre and other places of interest close to Caen. Very comfortable clean room, lovely bathroom, excellent shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was more than adequate and beautifully presented although limited in variety and probably not worth 15 euros - ours was included in the price. We had lunch in the restaurant on one day and it was a indeed a memorable experience! Definitely worth the money. After the second night, soap and toiletries which we had been using were replaced with new ones, which I thought was very wasteful!
Superb restaurant. The bedroom was very stylish and comfortable. Good car-parking and with easy access to the ports Needed flannels (face-cloths). Coffee making facilities in the room would have been helpful. These were minor imperfections
The room was lovely and the restaurant was amazing. The location was a bit off the beaten path.
Courtesy of staff, comfort of facility, and value of money. The design of the rooms is outstanding. Hotel is one of the best I visited recently The choise available at breakfast.
Best food ever! None
The bedrooms were well designed and the beds were very comfortable....The restaurant was amazing for dinner with high class french cooking
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Room was very elegant, modern and tastefully furnished. Breakfast selection was great and perfect for our needs. Superb restaurant. Only one English TV channel, BBC World News. No sports channels or Sky News.
The hotel was basic but friendly and accomodating. The room was clean and a good size with a walk-in shower as opposed to a bath. (Which I prefer) No private parking and this can mean expensive street parking on a meter or a considerable walk to find a free space on busy days. They had WIFI but charged 5€ for 45min. The bed was a standard double as opposed to king size. No visible staff after 11pm.
Very central, comfortable hotel with car parking
balcony of room, pool, location no space for clothes! room needed a dresser; needed a lamp by the area of large leather chairs; some balconies had no chairs, but we requested two chairs and a table, and they provided them.
Wonderful central location, within 5 minute walk from the main shopping area, and 10 minutes from the beach. Friendly staff and spacious family room.
Good clean room There was no air-conditioning & the staff spoke very little in english
Good basic accomodation, value for money Breakfast was a little dissapointing
Situation idéale et personnel vraiment agréable, plus une piscine très appréciable pour se détendre : simplement parfait.
Good location at a reasonable price
Well designed comfortable room. Central location in Deauville. Nice small pool. Modern ambience, so not a lot of character. Comfortable.
Clean.Good basic facilities.Quiet. Easy parking. Pleasant restaurant with good simple food.Good to use enroute.
very small room, when opening the third bed impossible to get to the bathroom, very unfriendly staff, actually a B&B on the highway for a night's stop over. Maybe acceptable for business travellers
Convienient stopover useful to have restuarant on site food not too bad but not what you would get in local restuarant hotel next door considerably cheaper not much less standard. Staff could smile a little more
Breakfast and dinner were good value. The hotel turned out to be on the wrong side of Lisieux for the business my son and I had in Normandy (clearing a house we had sold). So we only stayed one night. It's not the kind of place I would have chosen in other circumstances (like a Travelodge with better food) but the above is the sole reason for moving on.
Usual Campanile quality, style, value and helpfulness Hotel has an automated check-in system, which meant that guests were arriving right through the night. Woken at 01:15 with loud bangs and then suffered a constant arrival of people through to 03:30, the rattle of each diesel engine and flurry of slammed doors heralding yet another arrival. Not pleasant. This is a larger (3-storey) building and it's a terrible sound box, easily transmitting noises between rooms. If you want to hear people coming and (quite literally!) going all night, then stay here and enjoy the experience! Never again will we use this hotel, and we will avoid others that have an automated 24-hours check-in system (look for the green kiosk that looks like a cashpoint, next to the main entrance). This is a shame, as the rest of the hotel was good and the staff very helpful.
Excellent Value for money
We stayed here because we had a car and did not want to have to negotiate the streets of the city and also find a place to park. It was in a perfect location for day trips to various spots in the countryside, which is what we did every day. It was very convenient to all the major roads of the region.
Good overnight accomodation. More of a motel.
The staff made everything very easy to arrive by helping guide me on my travel by car to get to the location and also helped me in directions leaving for other events in the area of Normandy The parking was a little inconvient but it is because of the location of the hotel on the block.
The hotel is situated very close to the town centre, and on the main road going through the town so easy to find. Owner could not do anymore, excellent service. Will be back No secure car park
A friendly, relaxed hotel in a very convenient location. Very good buffet breakfast and some helpful local information.
The receptionist was really wonderful and I appreciated her advice and suggestions. I also liked the outside area at the back of the hotel It was further from the beach than I imagined from the description and also on busy traffic corner
Used as the base for a site seeing weekend in Normandy. Hotel owner was very nice. We slept very well.
Still one of the very best locations in this part of the Norman seaside, including Deauville. The room on 1st floor was directly located above the dustbin and supply area . Very noisy supplying and discharging started 4:00 a.m.
Very nice and confortable room in a great location The only missing service is clearly a pool!
We stayed here because of the Proust connection and were not disappointed. It is a grand old hotel that is absolutely beautiful. Staff was lovely and the breakfast was excellent. It is really, really expensive.
The location of the hotel. Very easy to check in and out. No reserved parking for hotel guests coming by car. Expensive breakfast.
We came because of Proust and becuase my Father had always wanted to come here. The setting is beautiful. The Hotel does not make enough of its Atrium and the tables are around the edge without a defined area to sit and have coffee or a drink. The Breakfast would have been excellent if the coffee and hot water had been hot. The caftiere was not full so only two cups of coffee possible. The food in the restuarant was abominable. I mentioned this to the Front desk but they said nothing. We have eaten a many of Frances' top restaurants and have been coming to France since the 1950'S. We ate the meal only becuase we had not eaten all day. The food is incredibly expensive and just nonsense. The rooms are showing their age with paint bashed etc.
we had a four star room with fabulous seaviews, but 2 star service throughout the hotel. The hotel history seems to be what the hotel rests on which is not enough and very little attempt is made to enhance the experience. We were left feeling that it was our privelage to stay there and that there was no need to make any effort for the guests. The quality of the room luckily couterbalanced this. However, we would not return.
I liked the architectural style of this grand old hotel. The bar service was excellent. The staff was very helpful. The suite was not air conditioned and was somewhat stuffy with the windows closed. With the windows open, this particular suite was susceptible to the noise from the street and the casino. Other suites on the beach, east side would not have the problem of street or casino noise with open windows. Wifi reception on my computer was sporadic and was on a pay-as-you-go basis through Orange.
The service, the quality and variety of the food, the position, and the general feeling of being somewhere special. Nothing
The rooms were pleasantly decorated, spacious, and the bathroom had a really good shower. We paid extra for the breakfast when we booked. When we checked in this was not mentioned and we had to ask about the breakfast. At first they said we didn't have breakfast included, then they looked it up and acknowledged that it was in fact included. No big problem, but if we hadn't asked we wouldn't have been told where to go or any of the details.
Breakfast was good; the room was comfortable if strangely decorated The fire alarm (practice?) which all but we seemed to ignore.
