I liked the architectural style of this grand old hotel. The bar service was excellent. The staff was very helpful. The suite was not air conditioned and was somewhat stuffy with the windows closed. With the windows open, this particular suite was susceptible to the noise from the street and the casino. Other suites on the beach, east side would not have the problem of street or casino noise with open windows. Wifi reception on my computer was sporadic and was on a pay-as-you-go basis through Orange.
Still one of the very best locations in this part of the Norman seaside, including Deauville. The room on 1st floor was directly located above the dustbin and supply area . Very noisy supplying and discharging started 4:00 a.m.
Very nice and confortable room in a great location The only missing service is clearly a pool!
The service, the quality and variety of the food, the position, and the general feeling of being somewhere special. Nothing
we had a four star room with fabulous seaviews, but 2 star service throughout the hotel. The hotel history seems to be what the hotel rests on which is not enough and very little attempt is made to enhance the experience. We were left feeling that it was our privelage to stay there and that there was no need to make any effort for the guests. The quality of the room luckily couterbalanced this. However, we would not return.
We stayed here because of the Proust connection and were not disappointed. It is a grand old hotel that is absolutely beautiful. Staff was lovely and the breakfast was excellent. It is really, really expensive.
We came because of Proust and becuase my Father had always wanted to come here. The setting is beautiful. The Hotel does not make enough of its Atrium and the tables are around the edge without a defined area to sit and have coffee or a drink. The Breakfast would have been excellent if the coffee and hot water had been hot. The caftiere was not full so only two cups of coffee possible. The food in the restuarant was abominable. I mentioned this to the Front desk but they said nothing. We have eaten a many of Frances' top restaurants and have been coming to France since the 1950'S. We ate the meal only becuase we had not eaten all day. The food is incredibly expensive and just nonsense. The rooms are showing their age with paint bashed etc.
Breakfast was good; the room was comfortable if strangely decorated The fire alarm (practice?) which all but we seemed to ignore.
The rooms were pleasantly decorated, spacious, and the bathroom had a really good shower. We paid extra for the breakfast when we booked. When we checked in this was not mentioned and we had to ask about the breakfast. At first they said we didn't have breakfast included, then they looked it up and acknowledged that it was in fact included. No big problem, but if we hadn't asked we wouldn't have been told where to go or any of the details.
The location of the hotel. Very easy to check in and out. No reserved parking for hotel guests coming by car. Expensive breakfast.
The atmosphere of the bigginings of the 20th century Everything was perfect
Had a sea view which was nice. Very friendly and polite staff. Spacious room. Outdoor swimming pool. Fitness room way too small. No kettle in the rooms so no possibility to make a cup of coffee/tea. Rooms need some fixing, a few scratches on the wall, at the bottom of the doors, etc...This is disapointing for a luxury hotel. Breakfast far too expensive (30 euros!!).
very nice beautiful hotel
The spacious accomodation, especially the well apppinted bathroom Menu choice for evening meal was limited if not dining in the Etrier
An all-around great place to stay when in Deauville!
The view, and the excellent meal we had at you top micelin resturant. No
Very good staff with a friendly and not at all stuffy approach. Excellent concierge staff (large gentleman with moustache been with the hotel for 16 years) who parked my Bristol with the care it deserves and aranged for a valet! Good location within easy walking distance of the beach and the many restaurants in the town. Nice lounge area for a drink before dinner. Good spa which gave a nice facial for my lady friend on one of the mornings. Overall a really great hotel for a short break. Nothing at all. Some might say it is not cheap, but then you are staying in the nicest hotel in the town.
nothing as the price of drinks totally spolied my stay The price of 4 drinks at the pool gin & tonic, vodka & coke, martini & lemonade 26 euro each and a cognac & coke 27 euro total cost of 4 drink 105 euro. This is robbery. We also stayed this week at the Victoria Jugfrau 5 * 7 similar drinks came to 62 euros(85 CHF) & The Hilton Evian les Bain 4*, the same 4 drinks 42 euros.
everything was perfect, service, restaurants nothing found
perfect location, friendly staff
I love the ambience of the place and the garden and bar were such relaxing places to have a drink. The little plates of canapes were delicious and the miniature cakes served with a cup of tea, to die for! It is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. The price of breakfast is a little high considering it is the same for continental or cooked. I think there could and should be a price differential. I couldn't book room with breakfast, it was room only on offer (not just your site). Swimming pool could do with a refurbishment.
Old school luxuryvibe on Saterday evening. Bathroom was not in line with the rest.
The location is amazing! The hotel is beautiful. The staff is too slow to respond.
Great location and reception upon arrival, nice and spacious room & bathroom, good food A bit pricey
relaxing fact that the reception did not tell us about two nights of filming and that we should have been told when booking not on arrival bit underhanded. by the hotel if we had known probably would have gone a week later.
Service and the food!
Casino Drink/Wine is extremely expensive
The room was of a nice size, the facilities very good, and the hotel location is excellent. We intend to return there later in the year, but spend more time. When we booked we wanted half board, but we could not book this on line. they should offer it for weekend breaks or make it inclusive for a given period.
relaxing in room price of food.drink
Nice location in quiet setting. Beautiful grounds. First rate buffet breakfast. Strong smell of paint in our room (difficulty sleeping). Hotel was almost empty during, so probably could have given us an other room that was not freshly painted. Dining was closed during our stay.
Excellent setup. Great place in the countryside. The bed rooms (and especially the beds) are very comfortable.
The design of the hotel was superb - we hadnt realised until we arrived that they were modern buildings but the use of timber and the layout was very impressive. The food was excellent and all the staff were exceptionally professional and very welcoming. I had been concerned, reading some of the reviews, that the staff would let the place down, but that wasn't the case! Very badly behaved child in the restaurant rather spoiled our dinner but I suppose there is not a lot the hotel can do about that!
Lovely Hotel. Very Expensive. Menu in French only and nobody spoke English in the evening so had to guess what to order.
We found this hotel to be totally what one would not expect. It was quiet and relaxing and certainly a place we would re-visit.
Spacious clean rooms. Very luxury hotel at a very low price as they have great offers on booking.com. The nature around the hotel is wonderful! The staff is friendly and helpfull. The prices for mini bar, breakfast etc are way too high! One cappucino costs 9 Euro!
The staff were welcoming, and very relaxed and helpful. The ambience of the hotel was delightful - it was situated in peaceful and attractive countryside, and was a beautiful and interesting building. The room was lovely, quiet with a good view and had a luxurious feel. The facilities were excellent, bar (indoor and outdoor), restaurant, 3 tennis courts, indoor swimming pool with adjacent outdoor sunbathing/relaxing area, table tennis, pool table.
The very relaxing ambience of the hotel and standard of comfort provided. The staff were also extremely helpful and the buffet breakfast was very comprehensive, although a little expensive at 18 Euros. The fact that the Restaurant was closed on both Sunday and Monday Evenings which forced me to drive into Deauville to eat.
location is really good, calm place, park. Good swimming pool
The courteus and cooperative attitude staff, quality of the restaurant, good service, parking Slow, almost unusable WiFi internet in the rooms
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Room was very elegant, modern and tastefully furnished. Breakfast selection was great and perfect for our needs. Superb restaurant. Only one English TV channel, BBC World News. No sports channels or Sky News.
The bedrooms were well designed and the beds were very comfortable....The restaurant was amazing for dinner with high class french cooking
Externally the hotel is like a factory unit but inside it's an oasis of charm and refinement. The hotel has a famous restaurant which, alas, is closed on Sunday nights.
The room was lovely and the restaurant was amazing. The location was a bit off the beaten path.
Best food ever! None
Superb restaurant. The bedroom was very stylish and comfortable. Good car-parking and with easy access to the ports Needed flannels (face-cloths). Coffee making facilities in the room would have been helpful. These were minor imperfections
Very pleasant, relaxing 3 night stay. Very quiet, as our room was located at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. (There were not may other guests staying while we were there.) The location is good if you have a car, both for the city centre and other places of interest close to Caen. Very comfortable clean room, lovely bathroom, excellent shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was more than adequate and beautifully presented although limited in variety and probably not worth 15 euros - ours was included in the price. We had lunch in the restaurant on one day and it was a indeed a memorable experience! Definitely worth the money. After the second night, soap and toiletries which we had been using were replaced with new ones, which I thought was very wasteful!
Courtesy of staff, comfort of facility, and value of money. The design of the rooms is outstanding. Hotel is one of the best I visited recently The choise available at breakfast.
Large rooms for France. Recommend the restaurant open 1 hour earlier.
Quite close to town.
At first we thought it was too far out of the town but it was an easy drive and quieter than a hotel in the town would have been. We liked the attic room tho' s lift would have been nice! Buffet breakfast was good if a bit expensive.. The restaurant was closed on the Sunday which was a nuisance. We had to make do with some food we had in the car as we did not want to go into the town to eat.
the pool and reception no
Location, facilities, room with balcony, surrounding area.
Very spacious, well located. Perfectly fine for an inexpensive place to sleep. Very friendly staff Very, very cheap feeling furniture. (The cabinet panel covering the dishwasher fell on my ankle when I tried to open it.) I'm also not a fan of bathrooms with no shower enclosure.
Location was convenient, in that it was close to the train and bus stations, but the surrounding area was a bit dull (10-15 minute walk to restaurants and old town)
The staff are polite, helpful and very well trained. They mix a very good cocktail. The bedrooms are getting shabby, particularly the bathrooms. The costs are higher than the quality one would expect. Four star quality at five star prices.
Quiet, pleasant views from the two windows in the room, west and north facing with sea view. very friendly and helpful staff. Alternative facilty in Golf Clubhouse for breakfast. The Golf Course and swimming facilities were good. No hot drink making facilty in room. Expensive cost of breakfast.
The shuttle service into Deauville The car park
The close proximity to Deauville, the pool and the golf course I thought the food was less than average. I became ill after having dinner on Tuesday night, the salmon appetizer was horrible, the riz du veau was stale and the desert gourment plate was unedible. My wife and I owned a food business in France for a number of years so we know good food. Also for the priice, the continental breakfast was way overpriced.
Very well organised, exceptional staff, traditional luxury hotel Some rooms need refurbishing
We liked the location with beautiful views, the old-world atmosphere, large and comfortabl bedrooms with enormous wardrobe space, including separate dressing-room, the lovely pool and good service.
The polite staff, the quality of breakfast and ease of parking
Superb staff looking after bedroom, bar and transport to town Distance from town was much further than expected
The surroundings are fantastic; the staff was very helpful and friendly The price for the breakfast is very expensive
The care of staff is excellent, interior of hotel is impressive as well as its golf fields and park around hotel. Very tranquil, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere The minor things: like every morning (our room windows were looking at main entrance side) we heard motor of the big trucks coming to bring products, take trash etc...which was pretty early morning around 7-30
Simple, efficient, nice view over Houlgate (from some buildings/rooms, not all) No reception service in the evening. The hotel staff left our key and info package for us to pick on arrival locked in a box outside reception with a code unknown to us. Luckly the parking security knew the code and could open the box. If he wasn't there, I do know how we could have known that the key was in that box. Strange system and no information given beforehand.
Cosy, quiet, peaceful, clean and perfectly functional little house. Nice view, nice short walk to restaurants and shops. Good spa center. Price for spa a bit too expensive.
Very quiet setting near the center of town. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The costs of the spa facilities was steep in relation to the room cost.
It was a wonderful, quiet getaway. Not easy to get to if you don't have a car but terrific for walks into town to nice restaurants. Also great to walk from town to town on the beach and to take a nice lunch in other coastal towns. Really overall couldn't have been happier with the experience. And the view was breath taking. Everything great about France was there. Tfhe hotel was experiencing some trouble with water for several days and water use was spotty. Never went without for long but I did have a shower cut short.
The room, the view at the pool, the location, up on a hill with seaview, eventhough it was a little too far to go to the beach by feet. It was a little too bad there wasn't a double bed in the bedroom, instead of the two separated beds.
Car Parking was convenient and so was the postion of the hotel. The restuarant was expensive and poor quality by comparison
The location was good, and on Sunday morning there was a market outside.
Welcoming environment in the hotel. Comfortable lobby, nice and friendly service.
Happy that the reception staff spoke English and were helpful in booking taxis and advising re local information. I did not like the fact that I was unable to get any food before 7 p.m. in the hotel or in fact in the town. I had been travelling all day and there was nowhere to eat anything. Even the hotel's room service was not available in the afternoon - not until 7 p.m.
friendly staff easy parking cost
Proximity to centre of town terrific. Underground car park very convenient. Easy access to restaurants, shopping and Chateau.
Room (327) facing courtyard-very quiet despite city centre location.Excellent bed & opaque curtains-slept well. The air-conditioning was turned off.No fridge in room.Hot food not replenished at breakfast.
Very noisy outside late into the night. Duvet too heavy and therefore too hot
Hotel easy to find clean and tidy rooms staff very helpful No real bad points
location,room,breakfast,room service and staff excelent
I enjoyed the design of the room, the linnen, the general level of the hotel. The decor was really nice indeed and I had a great garden view. I did not like the lack of wifi internet in the rooms and even in the lobby. Before coming to Deauville I thought that free wireless internet is a must, at least in four-star hotels in Europe
The location of the hotel
The location of the Hotel is ideal for our visit. the staff where very helpful this was the comments of all 10 of us who stayed No
Great location. Size of room was very good as well as being very clean. Very nice hotel, with good rates.
The hotel staff was great and very helpful the property was clean and updated. The breakfast which was incl. in the room rate was very nice as well! The hotel was located in a nice area and close to restaurants and stores. Our purpose for the visit was to enjoy a nice city but to be able to go and drive to the Normandy beaches, approx 1 1/2 hour drive. I think overall for the money... it was a great choise!
closeness to center of town
It was close to the Yacht harbour & the shops & Market.
The staff were attentive and conversant in english which helped with my rusty french. The hotel was very clean and their duplex room catered very well for my family with three small children. There is insufficient parking but at least ample a short walking distance. Arriving after six on Sunday we did not need to pay anything until the following morning.
Friendly staff, nice, clean, quiet room. Next to Saturday market and near good retaurants.
Good location, nice decor ,relaxing ambience Building work opposite the room, but, thats no-ones fault and I'm sure it will be over soon
The hotel was clean and pleasant and also near the port which was very convenient because we had an early ferry. The only bad point was that the hotel booked us in on my first name therefore they could not find the reservation easily.
the hotel staff was very courteous, quick to respond to my questions. The food was excellent and the wine selection very good. The room was small but I was travelling alone, so it was plenty sufficient, comfortable and clean.
Closeness to beach the room was very dark, a cold blue. It was claustrosphic.
Ideal for the Port which was reason for my visit. It was a bit pricey to park my motorcycle in the secure car park considering I just put it in a corner not even in a designated bay
it was a basic room with basic service and basic room details. we werer initially told the room would be available at 1.30 pm.So we came back at 2 pm and told the room would not be reay until 3 pm!? Un acceptabe???
Proximity to port. Quiet hotel, very clean. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant no ambience...waitress bad tempered, carpets very threadbare. Dogs allowed in restaurant.
In all a very nice hotel. The room though small had superb beds, and the bathroom had all the facilities including a bath and shower . It may only have a 2 star rating, but our experience was way above this.
Very convenient for the Ferry Port, clean and with friendly staff Bedrooms are small, some have inadequate windows, and they tended to be difficult to ventilate in hot weather.
Good location for the ferry port. Overpriced with bathroom in need of refurbishment.Parking charged for three motorcycles in one space
Efficient check-in, clean warm room, in great location for ferry travellers
Staff welcoming and helpful.Have a bit of chip on shoulder as my bank card was used in Oustreham before our arrival in a restaurant in the same town so a bit concerned about security so paid cash for everything. Rooms were cold and heating difficult to set. Coffee mugs really stupid- no handles- burnt fingers unless you wait for cold coffee. Restaurant bit to upmarket for rest of hotel- menu not available in English.
The hotel is very comfortable. It is located close to the D-Day beaches (Sword Beach is 5-min drive away) and a 15-minute drive to Caen. The restaurant has great food at good prices. Staff are very friendly helpful.
We thought the rooms, showers, cleanliness were very good, the staff were helpfull and charming . We had chosen the hotel because it had a lift & this helped with the temporary immobility of my husband I felt there could be a place in the room to put ones discarded clothing, as we prefer not to hang things in wardrobes for fear of leaving them behind. We also thought that the menu was overpriced and insubstantial
Everything, The staff were very friendly. The hotel looks new and everything was very well done. The room was lovely and had every amenity, including tea/coffee making facilities, which is rare in Europe generally. We will definitely stay there again. Absolutely nothing
Top quality at reasonable price. Obliging staff and ,although not cheap, very good food. Perfectly located for Caen ferryport.Would happily stay again.
Comfortable modern facilities throughout the hotel. Bedrooms where functional, comfy bed, tea and coffee making facilities, tv. The bathroom was clean with a powerful shower, good size cubicle and complimentary toiletries provided. The only dislike was the mugs in the rooms did not have handles and so were impractical for hot drinks.
*New, clean rooms *excellent front desk staff, knew customers by name, always greeted kindly, very well presented, etc. *24 hour front desk service Location wasn't great *Breakfast staff were not nice at all *Key check procedures left me nervous about the security of my room *Rooms were a little small, but well equiped *Showers were bad, hose was too short and stopped water flow
The hotel is well located (close enough to the beach and casino, practically next door to a supermarket, and not far from the train station), the staff was very professional, helpful and accommodating, the room was very clean and well appointed, accurate to its 3 star rating. It was also perfectly quiet in the hotel: I don't remember hearing a single noise the whole time we were there, and although our room faced the street, noise from the street was not a problem. Overall I feel that the "rapport qualite/prix" was correct. No major complaints, I was overall satisfied with everything. I could only name quibbles, but they are things that would potentially have been fixed by the hotel staff, I just didn't care enough to ask: we could have used more towels; the heated towel rack is a nice feature but didn't appear to work; the bed was comfortable but not impressively so....little things. Also, we couldn't find ice, but I'm almost convinced that ice just doesn't exist in France, so again not a major problem. Again, the quality of the hotel was appropriate to its rating and to the price relative to other accommodations in town.
Recently refurbished, modern style with usual amenities.Good location for Deauville Centre Room was small. No restaurant (except breakfast which was expensive)
Convenient parking for guests, beautiful comfortable rooms a cut above some other hotels we stayed in this summer!
Excellent, the Hotel is brandnew and has W-LAN internet access at no extra charge. Parking in the garage costs 13€ per day. The elevator was out of order.
Central location and great service Price is high, the room was reasonably clean (and it was being cleaned daily, so I am very happy with the service), but the hotel is already starting to look a bit run down (e.g. stained corridor carpets)- strange for an establishment which is so new. Also, the garage is not fit for a normal sized car.
underground parking good, charge for parking - and breakfast quite high compared to other hotels we stayed in
The location is excellent, in the center of Deauville, close to the Hippodrome. The beds are very comfortable. There is a separate bath room and toilet. I did not understand the television. The room was situated on the road side and was quite noisy.
Location Air Con did not work. Very hard bed. No screen around the shower, bathroom floor very wet.
room design and locations room was far too small - toilet and bathroom were seperate... also extra charge for breakfast. we didn't have it, but if it was included in the rate (even EUR10 extra) we probably would have paid it...
Good location Car park is very difficult to use (very tight entrance, exit and little room).
The location, and the reception staff went beyond their duties to help us during the strike action.
very comfortable and the duty manager was extremely polite and very helpful very difficult to find even for residents who very kindly offered to escort us. Much clearer directions with greater information particularly about being able to use vehicle on pedestrian access
We were only there to sleep a few hours, but it was a nice hotel. Breakfast was nice too. The young man at the desk was incredible! Very difficult to find even with the car navigator, hotel maps, map24 etc. If you don't know Caen, the minute you get in the city, call them on the phone, they speak English perfectly, and they'll guide you in.
Facilities, staff and breakfast buffet all excellent. Initial approach to hotel by vehicle was ackward as it required us to drive down a bus/taxi only lane but once we figured that out, everything else was ease. On-site parking is available in a secure underground garage but it is limited so book ahead.
staff where excellent
Very conveniently located and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.
in the city centre noisy if room on the side of the street
the constant helpfulness and charm of all the staff - they were always there to help. in fact we arrived one day early so had 4 nights and they were able to accommodate us - paid extra and had a deluxe room which was great. nothing at all
Spacious room, very friendly staff and secure parking
Free parking, large clean room, and comfortable bed.
The price, the location, the kitchen facilities No housekeeping during the stay
The appartment was very clean although furniture outdated. Concept was good Short checking-in hours - 2 hours on a weekend!
The hotel was fine;however, the staff only worked until 1900 and I arrived late the night of check-in ... but the staff left keys to the room out for me. Not daily room cleaning service.... no fresh towels the second day.... no toilet paper, shampoo, etc....
I loved that it had a kitchenette. The rooms were very clean. The hotel was close to everything without being downtown. The only thing I did not like was the bed. It was suppose to be a double bed but it was actually a bed under a bed.
convenience of a kitchen for small meals no laundry facility
Location - finding it was easy and close to bus, tram & shopping. Parking - enough on site. Friendly hotelier with good English. VERY clean! Not spacious, but comfortable. No English TV channels - some English news channels like Sky, CNN or BBC would have been nice. Tiny espresso cups, can't have a 'normal' cup of coffee.
The price of the room The room layout
Very comfortable and quiet no electric kettle or tea cups only problem
The ability to cook in if I so desired. The room was clean and relatively spacious, the bed comfortable, the shower superb. The hotel was too far removed from center city, and wanted to charge me 10 euros simply to give me access to the phone line.
