convenient location toilet did not flush in one room
Hotel was in a convenient position for our journey, it was comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly.
The bathroom and breakfast
I liked that it was convenient to the highway to travel to other locations. The same hotel room key you get can open the hotel's side door. This makes me think that the hotel room key is the same for all hotel rooms. I didn't ask the reception as only learned about that when we arrived late after 11PM and there was no reception open.
Clean comfortable room at avery reasonable rate. Good food. Excellent, cheap breakfast. Very, very helpful staff. Limited drinks menu.
Dinner was excellent in terms of both quality and value. the staff were very helpful. The decor of the room was very tired; bedside lights either did not work or had dodgy connections.
The room was quite small, but clean and good for the price. What really surpised me was the breakfast and the restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast was especially nice, and our dinner was fantastic!!! If you need a simple place to stay while touring the region for a great price, and wonderful food to boot, this is the place! Shower needed some maintenence.
friendly staff, convenient restuarant, with reasonably good food.
Friendly staff at reception, trouble-free reservation and check-in, clean and excellent quality/price ratio. Waitress in restaurant was very rude. This contrasted very much with the friendly welcome we had at the reception.
Size of bed and proximity to Ouisterham Breakfast, as usual was excellent, but the dinner (25th June) was the one of the worst meals we have had in France.
In a good location for the route I use, rooms adequate for short stay
Could get in late at night using credit card - brilliant. Clean, fairly comfortable basic hotel. Would use the hotel again as it was great value and had somewhere to park the car and trailer.
It had a bed and a shower, cheap! Staff do not speak any English; rooms smelled; nobody available after 9pm; called them to try and let them know we were going to be late but they did not understand me! On line booking did not register in the machine outside as we arrived after 9pm - we had to book new rooms with a new credit card.
The staff were excellent
Easy access. Clean, basic room. Breakfast very good value. Having shower in corridor was the big disadvantage for us.
Staff was helpful and polite at all times, the accommodation and breakfast were adequate - and good value. Would have preferred shower within my room
Good situation to visit Caen & surrounding towns Restaurants/supermarket etc all within walking distance easy access off periphique very pleasant situation State of room could have been better presented toilet door on bedroom side had not been cleaned evidence of spillage of unknown liquid quite visible toilet seat requires changing due to extensive wear light in shower area off after approx 10 seconds/no visible instructions for shower usage
We liked the fact that you could enter the hotel whatever time you arrived and the procedure was simple. Where are there others? On our second visit a week later we did not book in advance and the room was not as clean and the toilet top broken off. Did like the simplicity of it though
The rooms are very basic but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. It is also cheaper if you don't book via the internet 3 euros.
The attendant woke up to let us in at 2:30 in the morning. But that was only because the 24hr check-in machine only gives you a card to open a locked door, prompting you to call her. This hotel is dark, dirty, and smells like an overzealous taxi cab air freshener. The true underlying putrescent stench is only thinly veiled by the noxious semi-sweet odor covering it up, however the mixture of smells does nothing to mask the overall, "ickyness," of the furnishings, walls, bathrooms and water-closets. Spend the extra five euro and stay somewhere that doesn't make you want to sleep in your clothes.
The room was lovely and the restaurant was amazing. The location was a bit off the beaten path.
The courteus and cooperative attitude staff, quality of the restaurant, good service, parking Slow, almost unusable WiFi internet in the rooms
The bedrooms were well designed and the beds were very comfortable....The restaurant was amazing for dinner with high class french cooking
Courtesy of staff, comfort of facility, and value of money. The design of the rooms is outstanding. Hotel is one of the best I visited recently The choise available at breakfast.
Superb restaurant. The bedroom was very stylish and comfortable. Good car-parking and with easy access to the ports Needed flannels (face-cloths). Coffee making facilities in the room would have been helpful. These were minor imperfections
Best food ever! None
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Room was very elegant, modern and tastefully furnished. Breakfast selection was great and perfect for our needs. Superb restaurant. Only one English TV channel, BBC World News. No sports channels or Sky News.
Very pleasant, relaxing 3 night stay. Very quiet, as our room was located at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. (There were not may other guests staying while we were there.) The location is good if you have a car, both for the city centre and other places of interest close to Caen. Very comfortable clean room, lovely bathroom, excellent shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was more than adequate and beautifully presented although limited in variety and probably not worth 15 euros - ours was included in the price. We had lunch in the restaurant on one day and it was a indeed a memorable experience! Definitely worth the money. After the second night, soap and toiletries which we had been using were replaced with new ones, which I thought was very wasteful!
Externally the hotel is like a factory unit but inside it's an oasis of charm and refinement. The hotel has a famous restaurant which, alas, is closed on Sunday nights.
Very spacious, well located. Perfectly fine for an inexpensive place to sleep. Very friendly staff Very, very cheap feeling furniture. (The cabinet panel covering the dishwasher fell on my ankle when I tried to open it.) I'm also not a fan of bathrooms with no shower enclosure.
Location was convenient, in that it was close to the train and bus stations, but the surrounding area was a bit dull (10-15 minute walk to restaurants and old town)
Happy that the reception staff spoke English and were helpful in booking taxis and advising re local information. I did not like the fact that I was unable to get any food before 7 p.m. in the hotel or in fact in the town. I had been travelling all day and there was nowhere to eat anything. Even the hotel's room service was not available in the afternoon - not until 7 p.m.
Car Parking was convenient and so was the postion of the hotel. The restuarant was expensive and poor quality by comparison
Proximity to centre of town terrific. Underground car park very convenient. Easy access to restaurants, shopping and Chateau.
location,room,breakfast,room service and staff excelent
friendly staff easy parking cost
Very noisy outside late into the night. Duvet too heavy and therefore too hot
Welcoming environment in the hotel. Comfortable lobby, nice and friendly service.
Hotel easy to find clean and tidy rooms staff very helpful No real bad points
The location was good, and on Sunday morning there was a market outside.
Room (327) facing courtyard-very quiet despite city centre location.Excellent bed & opaque curtains-slept well. The air-conditioning was turned off.No fridge in room.Hot food not replenished at breakfast.
The behavior of the rep was very good. And they can speak English very well. I wish they serve only boiled egg at the breakfast.
One of the better hotels I have stayed in, it ticked most of the boxes. Clean,Friendly, Helpful, Location etc. The rooms were too hot, the air conditioning unit did not work it continually blew out heat.I switched it off and slept with the window open
The room is in good sizeand internet is perfect no
excellent location, clean and modern and quiet
central location, overlooking a square with trees and flowers
Town Centre Location was very good No parking, however public underground opposite
Proximity to the airport was important, we enjoyed the breakfast at the loby restaurant as well.
The staff were very helpful and the rooms were cleaned with fresh linen everyday. The hotel is very central and there is a short walk to shops, food, restaurants. Breakfast is reasonably priced and car parking opposite is also reasonably priced for 24hrs. It would have been nice for the hotel to have a restaurant for evening meals and a better bar area. The rooms lacked comfortable seating.
Friendly staff,excellent location
Location, modern, clean no
The location, and the reception staff went beyond their duties to help us during the strike action.
very comfortable and the duty manager was extremely polite and very helpful very difficult to find even for residents who very kindly offered to escort us. Much clearer directions with greater information particularly about being able to use vehicle on pedestrian access
Very conveniently located and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.
the constant helpfulness and charm of all the staff - they were always there to help. in fact we arrived one day early so had 4 nights and they were able to accommodate us - paid extra and had a deluxe room which was great. nothing at all
Good location Car park is very difficult to use (very tight entrance, exit and little room).
Facilities, staff and breakfast buffet all excellent. Initial approach to hotel by vehicle was ackward as it required us to drive down a bus/taxi only lane but once we figured that out, everything else was ease. On-site parking is available in a secure underground garage but it is limited so book ahead.
in the city centre noisy if room on the side of the street
Spacious room, very friendly staff and secure parking
staff where excellent
We were only there to sleep a few hours, but it was a nice hotel. Breakfast was nice too. The young man at the desk was incredible! Very difficult to find even with the car navigator, hotel maps, map24 etc. If you don't know Caen, the minute you get in the city, call them on the phone, they speak English perfectly, and they'll guide you in.
A good stay spoiled by a very noisy street - no sleep until 3 am.
Comfortably situated with respect to the city center. A quiet, nice place for travelers. There are several good restaurants in the vicinity. Parking facility is not available for the hotel's guests.
Able to walk to location from train station. Uncomfortable bed.
I thought it exuded a warm, friendly atmosphere There was nothing I disliked about it
this hotel was very central and the lift was very welcome.the doubleglaseing was good in the summer this room was very hot and with 2 night clubs across the road the windows had to stay shut, the room the bathroom were very small
Staff very attentive & responsive to reservation process & confirmation. Nothing. Very nicely done.
The service overall was predominantly very good, especially at the restaurant. On arrival we came down for a drink after check in, we were kept waiting about 20 minutes before we were able to get a drink, I had to ask her her 3 or 4 times during that period,This was the only blip, the service thereafter was very good from the reception desk.
Hotel is clean, quiet and has very helpful staff
Outstanding food, excellent staff, wonderful atmosphere, good location. I first stayed here about 15 years ago and the level of service and quality of the food has been maintained with the same level of excellence and care - an outstanding tribute to the dedication and care of the management and staff at Le Dauphin.
Superb food and service
Very friendly and helpful hotel staff. Excellent location very close to old city centre, shops and restaurants. Wonderful buffet breakfast. The 'standard' room was a bit on the small side, but ok. We had enough room for the 2 of us.
Quiet, parking possibility, very good situation
Excellent location for town of Caen. Good for shopping. Parking a problem. Breakfast not good value for money. Nice hotel overall but for a 4 star rating needs a bit more. Bathroom very sparc with accessories, hair dryer very poor wall mounted. Bar expensive for drinks.
was wonderful and friendly. Diner was outstanding! too much rain...but I guess you cannot control
A high standard hotel in an excellent city centre location. Good parking.
Clean, comfortable hotel. Some members of reception staff were rude and unwelcoming.
Paper cups and poor tea / coffee making facilities. The cost of drinks at the bar. Lack of bath towels in the room
The hotel lobby was clean and the outdoor pool area looked nice It was not clean at all. Our room had filthy carpets.
The room was comfortable and spacious and close enough to Caen In the room there was a chair which was a little bit dirty.
excellent launching site for surrounding countryside
Good for staying for a night. Not the worst of the Novotel hotels (comparing to Le Mans at least), but will not stay there next time. Actually do not recommend Caen at all, Rouen is much more interesting.
Very accessible location, restaurant was good, would recommend.
An excellent hotel to use for a night's stay whilst travelling through France. Clean, comfortable & a good atmosphere.
Large, comfortable and clean room and spotless bathroom. Easy access by tram into Caen centre.
Location a little out of town centre and right on the ring road. In room internet was advertised as being free, but didn't work at all and hotel staff had no idea about it.
Cheap but ok room.
Access to WiFi Apart from WiFi and a restaurant on site - which we did not use - the hotel was no better than the "budget" accommodation supplied by Etap and village hotels just a short distance away at less than half the price. Having used "budget" hotels in the past when travelling through France we had expected a much better standard of accommodation based on the price that we were paying, very disappointing.
Convenient location for our overnight stop with good parking, restaurant and bar.
proximity to sites we wanted to see no warm water, thought we would have a nicer room.
the hotel position is good, city centre withinreach, main e46 very near, menu excellent no
We enjoyed the evening meal in the restaurant very much and found the service to be very good. The room did not have had tea/coffee making facilities
A little bit worn and scruffy, but good value for the money; very helpful staff, facilities pretty good, breakfast good, dinner surprisingly good, nice swimming pool.
When rains, you can hear dripping water from the roof to something on the ground (eaves are probably stuffy) .....
everything! fantastic hotel with very helpful and friendly staff, top class food in the restaurant and family friendly, basic but clean and comfortable room, would definitely come back.
the breakfast facilities were excellent. A lot of care given. The ease of booking in. The rooms were very, very basic. No Shower curtain!! No Hairdryer!! and in desperate need of updating.
Breakfast Noisy rooms
This was a good inexpensive hotel that is located a block from the train station. Our room was sparse but comfortable and worked fine for our one night stopover in Caen. There does not seem to be anyone at the hotel who speaks english but we were able to communicate with the hotel clerk for what we needed.
cleanliness was excellent, reasonable location rooms needed decor modernising, no english tv in room.
Great staff and location. Comfy rooms
very helpful staff, nice room.
A clean, pleasant and very conveniently located hotel close to the railway station, car rental offices, and short walk to town centre. Smell of smoking in bedroom.
Friendly staff. Proximity to raiway station. Noisy street outside window
The front desk young man was helpful, polite, and kind. he worked every day I was there so he recognized me and always said hello as I entered or left the hotel. My room air conditioner was broken.
The location was central to the city and very close to the train station and rental car agencies. Parking was available at no cost. The staff was very helpful but spoke very little English. The room rate was very good.
Close to town centre. Large room with comfortable bed and a tea/coffee maker.
It was located in the heart of Caen, only a minutes walk from the centre. The bathroom door was a bit strange. The door has a see through glass panel so you could see anybody who just happened to be sat on the toilet!
Rooms were clean and though small and basic, were comfortable and what we expected for two stars. The shower was good. The associated restaurant next door was superb. The breakfast buffet was, again, basic but nice. Our room got the afternoon sun, which might be nice in the colder weather, but was sweltering in the summer heat, without fan or air conditioning.
I liked that I was able to come and go from Hôtel Des Quatrans even late at night. It was also nice to be able to leave my luggage in the lobby before check-in and after check-out.
The hotel is centrally located, with restaurants and shopping close by. We used Caen as a stopover on our way south, and we found the location and town itself convenient. Free parking was a nice perk, as the town seemed quite heavily congested. Rooms were spartan but clean, and beds relatively comfortable. Quite a lot of noise from the bar (we were situated on the ground floor) but this did stop at 10pm. Breakfast buffet small but adequate.
This was an ideal stay for a one night stop over with the kids (4&6) in the family room.
Good location near city center and shopping streets. Close to the tram that comes from the train station. Close to the bus stop that goes to the Caen Memorial. It's definitely a budget hotel - nothing fancy. My first room had a weird smell and also the wifi did not work. I was moved to a room on the ground floor which was a bit better.
The location of this hotel is very convenient. The bathroom was big, bigger than the room which seemed a bit strange. I think the photos of the room on the Internet do not really reflect the actual quality of the rooms in general. I saw two rooms and both were much shabbier than the photographed room. There was cigarette burns in the bed cover and the bed itself needed replacing. I have stayed in other two star places on my trip and they have been much better than this for the same money. I was disappointed that the hotel information was so misleading.
Pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Safe storage for our bikes. Helpful staff. Our 4th visit there.
It was conviently located in the town near to the castle (although we were only passing through on business). It was also close to some excellent restaurants. Good budget hotel. For some reason it took ages to pay, and the hotel didn't accept American Express (although the receptionist didn't know this). We left before breakfast, so I cannot review it.
Ideal location for Central Caen, close to the shops, resturants and nightlife but not so close to interupt the peace and quiet of the hotel, bar was open late and provided a nice atmosphere for us and some wwII vets to have a drink and chat Unable to meet of request for twin rooms but understood for the period
Excellent ambience, excellent food, delightful pool, delightful decor, impeccable service, magnificent gardens
We had stayed there once before and we loved the ambiance and the location. The lack of restaurant dinner service and of the bar on Mondays was a drawback. We had a much better experience when we stayed there last July.
Beautiful castle...friendly staff...outstanding kitchen..
beautiful location, services, facilities, breakfast, dinner menu for late check-in
Great location; fabulous restaurant; nice rooms; pleasant staff; wonderful place to stay for visit to Normandy
Magnificent building set in beautiful grounds.Excellent for a stop off as close to Cherbourg and for visting Bayeux and the famous beaches.Good service. When we have stayed here before the food has been very good. However see below. On the night we stayed Monday 11th Sept there was a fixed menu at night.I appreciate many gourmet restaurants close on Mondays and sometimes Tuesdays but they are missing a trick during the summer months.Further we arrived at lunch and there was no food at all !!
Beautiful building and setting, with lovely gardens - and the food was very good. Enormous, comfy bed! This is an expensive hotel for food and drinks (for France). It seems quite geared towards the tastes of wealthy international tourists, on a particular circuit - and the atmosphere reflects that.
The hotel looks great from the outside. It was downhill after that. The hotel is isolated. Finding a batman was a challenge. Poor service. Bad rooms. We rejected the first one offered because it smelled damp and were put in the attic. Bathroom was new but decor of room and most of hotel was in dire need of a makeover. Expensive food was not up to normal standards of a Relais and Chateau property. Would recommend avoid this place. No one even answered room service calls on last day and there was no one at reception for over an hour to make up our bill. a bad experience.
The restaurant was excellent. The room was very comfortable.
The Chateau was beautiful. We had a very large room (superior room). It was a welcome respite after a day touring the Normandy region in the rain!Enjoyed cocktails in the lounge and dinner by the fire(be sure to ask to be seated in the room with the fireplace) We felt the location was convenient for touring but quite a distance away from other restaurants. The hotel restaurant was very expensive. We felt at least breakfast should have been included in the rates. Service was included but was not mentioned again when we asked.
