Good service, rooms OK, good restaurant, breakfast starts at 7 but they make a nice lunchbox in case you need to leave earlier. Television is out of date
Welcome and swimming facilities Gourmet restaurant was closed but we were not informed, food in alternative venue was gourmet style and prices but not what we would have chosen for ourselves
very nice staff, clean the wifi did not work for me
Very good hotel. Very clean. Friendly staff. Good kitchen. Quiet and relaxing. None really, except two disasters in the kitchen. Their bouillabaisse was much to salty, the fish hard and the portion too small. The other evening the Pomme Anna was much too hard (reheated ?). Otherwise the resturant was excellent with good value for the money - we liked it so much that we ate there three nights. The sauna was closed one night due to rebuilding. Too bad that it had to be the evening where we had our 25 years wedding night.
A very nice, comfortable hotel in beautiful surroundings. If you need a quiet, peaceful hotel in which to relax after the stress of work Kurpark-Hotel Ilsetal is just the place to be. The staff could not have been more helpful, first class. No
We really enjoyed the location! The staff were very accommodationg and friendly. The food was wonderful. Overall pleasant experience. Did not like the fact that we could not find the internet access that was suppose to be available.
Location We paid for a second room for our parents not knowing that the family room had a sofa bed for the kids. This was not explained or shown to us on arrival.
Beautiful location; Food was very good Would like more information in English
Excellant staff and wiling to help with the language No
Stunning location, good food and relaxing. Felt we were overlooked because of language barrier. Only 1 waiter on out last evening there spoke English, luckily we knew basic german but we didn't use facilities eg sauna etc because of this.
Nice breakfast and also a fine restaurant. Sauna is for free, but bathrobes had to be hired.
Very nice place, quiet and cosy in a wonderful region. Hotel staff very kind and efficient. QBar fantastic! Wifi connection very difficult in the rooms with an iPad. Is it really necessary to fill up a form two times in 2 days with name, address and signature to get a code and a pas word??? Free wifi please !
Location, staff, view. Poor beds, not a double but two singles pushed together.
evening buffet in hotel no bathtub in the room
Good location for exploring the area. Good parking facilities. Restaurant very good, menu varied. No tea/coffee making facilities provided in room.
Extensive facilities including swimming pool, sauna, games room etc. excellent breakfats. Reasonable price
We had been very delighted by the hotel, it was very clean and charming. The room was quiet a nice one and the breakfast was fantastic. There was no mini-bar in the room, which is not very common in a 4* hotel! For the dressingroom in welness area, you need a coin to get your stuff closed up in a safe-deposit box, the clue is, that it's written nowhere and you find out when you already in swimwear...
Excellent breakfast, nice pools, pools open till 22:30, one is warm enough for young children, food in restaurant is good. Beds comfortable, free baby cot, highchairs in restaurant, play room. Air in swimming pool area, esp. showers, cold. Footpaths near hotel are cleared of snow in winter, so no walk with small children possible near hotel, must use car (no sledge possible, and toddlers will slide on slush and fall into mud). Room service menue not very good.
Location of the hotel to the Harz mountains. My wife and I stayed at the hotel and were dissapointed with the facilities. Considering that it wasn't peak season when we stayed, and the hotel wasn't full, the hotel could not offer us any treatments from their wellness package. They were fully booked up because they only had a few staff that were working in the wellness centre.
Nice quiet hotel. Excellent value for money, fantastic buffet breakfast. No tea or coffee in the rooms, chipped glass display in foyer, no bath in room - very surprising for a 4 star hotel.
We have stayed at this hotel before and always found it to be most suitable for a relaxing holiday with lots of walks with our dog in the nearby forest. N/A
The service was very good. The hotel also has a good standard of luxary. It is well situated for making trips to other places in the Harz. No Complaints.
Very good hotel in the middle of the city Wernigerode. Excellent breakfast and a la carte dinner Very difficult to find in the dark. The signs to the hotel should be illuminated.
The location, right in the centre, within walking distance of everything Trying to find the hotel by car is tricky. City directions were not very good and sat navs useless
All staff were very helpful and friendly No, it was superb
The Hotel is very good and exelent Access difficult- not sufficient direction signs
Being in the centre of this wonderful ancient town, and being made to feel very comfortable. It was extremely clean and the rooms were large and beautifully decorated. A luxurious hotel. There was an unpleasant smell of drains in the reception area of the hotel, which is probably explained because of old sewerage systems, but wasnt noticeable anywhere else in the hotel.
The breakfast is fantastic. Lounge is good and there is welcome drink. The room is very nice and the bed is comfortable. The spa is great. It is next to shopping street. Staffs are very responsive and helpful. Some staffs does speak good english. This is the best stay of the whole trip. There is only one terminal at the lobby to access internet for free. The parking is very expensive.
The hotel was wonderful and location was great. 'The breakfast was great...the only bad part was the dinner... restaurant food was overpriced for dinner and service was poor. They did not even ask if I wanted dessert or coffee and we could not get them to even come to the table to ask, we had to chase them down.
Comfort and cleanliness, food of excellent quality, position in town very difficult to access-needs clearer maps for motorists.Car parking 10Euro/day-12 if the system is not explained.Pool would be nice.
brilliant range of food at breakfast, the way the tablecloths were changed after each table had been used, the pleasant decor in the public areas We did not learn any German at school and would have found it helpful if the dinner menus had been translated into English
Breakfast was excellent as was the food generally. Location was probably as good as it gets for steam locomotive enthusiasts. The room was rather small. Toiletries were not replenished.
close to station and town centre. also superb for those who wanted to observe the HSB steam locos. highly amusing drinks delivery system. in view of the number of english visitors, and other countries, the lack of anything other than German spoken, with basic info was not good.
Clean, quiet, comfortable, near local transportation and the steam train depot. Easy walk to center of town. Good breakfast No, everything was excellent
Outstanding location adjacent to the railway station, provided the room we asked for, great breakfast, good dinner with happy service.
helpfullness of staff.
Loved the proximity to the railway & the way that the steam engines were just across the road and steaming all night. Restaurant had a railway theme too. Staff very helpful & friendly.
We were there for the steam trains and we loved being next to the train yard. Others may not find the street and train smoke as appealing.
If you like steam railways and you're coming to the Harz Mountains, then this is the only hotel to stay in. Everything about the hotel is very good. The room (overlooking the loco shed) had a great view, the accomodation was comfy and the bathroom excellent. The hotel's location for the town is also very convenient and the hotel easily accessed by car. The buffet breakfast was exactly as we like them to be and the evening meal menu was excellent in terms of scope, value for money and quality. If you're travelling to this part of Germany for the first time don't expect everyone to be able to speak English - learn the basics and have a good phrase book! None the less the staff were warm, welcoming and friendly. This is not really a "not like", but... we were there in a heat wave (which was great) however the room was sweltering (as you'd expect). There's no air conditioning (which isn't the end of the world) but as we had to have the windows wide open we were disturbed by the road traffic right outside - where does everyone go at 5.30 in the morning, and why so many of them?!?! So, if you're booking for a summer visit then maybe a room at the back would be cooler and quieter - you can still watch the engines from the various balconies and terraces, and with a beer in hand (which is another plus for this hotel)
Hotel recently refurbished, clean and comfortable. Convenient for station and narrow gauge railway and only a few minutes walk from town. Ideal for railway enthusiasts as dining room overlooks steam loco depot of the Harz narrow gauge system. Excellent breakfast buffet, good evening meal. Nothing I disliked-however there are insufficient staff to deal comfortably with large numbers dining at same time. For the same reason an early morning call was overlooked-fortunely without on this occasion causing difficulty.
Friendly atmosphere, contented staff, pleasantly situated in a very lovely town. Would strongly recommend it. Smoke alarm activated on night of 20th so called fire brigade. False alarm and key holder was quickly on the scene. Unfortunate but no harm done.
Breakfast buffet was very good Difficult to find
Outstanding location just near the "Skisprungschanzen" of Wernigerode. We had a very nice and spaceous apartment with balcony and perfect view on mountain, Schanzen and all other nature. The price we paid for this experience is unbeatable. 10 to 15 minute walk to outstanding downtown Wernigerode, were parking is not easy to find. nothing at all.
Excellent facilities. Helpful staff. Free pass for local transport. Good restaurant. A bit of a hike from town centre. Last bus at about 6.30.
Nice view of the castle from the top rooms. Good, firm bed. Decent restaurant with helpful staff. No internet in the room! Also full a few minor inconveniences such as a light switch for the bathroom outside the room and behind the door. Furniture was quite ugly, but comfortable. You need a car to access this hotel, which would be the only major drawback vs a hotel in the middle of town.
The staff were exceptionally helpful, staying late when we got lost and arrived after reception was officially closed. They even sent someone to help us find our way to the hotel after we arrived in the town. This was just one example of the excellent service provided by the very friendly staff. All of their help was greatly appreciated.
Great location at edge of Altstad and across road from Hartzer Tourist Railway. Accommodation very comfortable. Restuarant excellent. Staff spoke English and were all extremely friendy and helpful. Parking onsite. Great experience.
The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and offered excellent service. It was extremely valuable for the money we paid (64 EUR for a double room). The minibar was free (!), the parking was free and breakfast was included in the room price. The kitchen offered great local specialities which I appreciate very much. When checking in we received a map of the city of Wernigerode, lots of discount coupons to use in restaurant and stores, as well as a free rides on not only all public transports within the city of wernigerode but also for buses to other areas in the harz mountains. You can easily walk to town from the hotel, but we took the car, since parking in town was easily and didn't cost anything after 6 in the evenin The beds were a little hard but thet is a matter of personal taste of course.
Cheerful friendly and attentive staff. Good food both at breakfast and in the evening. Room was clean and spacious but some might consider it a little basic. Bathroom facilities excellent. Good firm beds.
Friendly staff at reception. Good breakfast buffet included in price. Excellent view of Schloss Wernigerode. Requires aircons in room, terribly hot in summer.
I found the hotel efficiently run, and the staff very courteous and helpful. Also some nice touches - like a bowl of fresh fruit in one's room every day. The hotel is also pretty convenient both for the station and the market square. The breakfasts were excellent.
Very friendly and helpful staff,i liked the fruit in the room,a superb breakfast.Very clean and comfortable.
Breakfast is so great!!! Wir can buy something at the Supermarket Lidl.(close to the Hotel) no kettle in the room.
Nice location near the centre of the town. Very good breakfast. Wireless internet did not work in our room.
Convenience to town center and train station. Excellent selection for breakfast and very convenient to restaurants.
Centrally located and reasonably priced.
The hotel is good for a short stay in Wernoigerode for the Harz mountains and the steam railway. It is centrally located and close to all the rstaurants etc in the town centre. Although my room was non smoking I could detect the smell of stale tobacco smoke in the room on my arrival
It was brilliantly positioned for my travel on the Harz railway to Brocken
The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Fresh fruit in the room is a nice touch.
Bedroom and the breakfast room were beautifully decorated. All staff, front desk, cleaning and breakfast, were friendly and helpful and recognized us each time with a smile and greeting. Hotel was well situated near railway (especially the steam train to the Brocken). We very much enjoyed staying there. Because of the very hot weather during our stay, we had to have the windows open during the night and at times the traffic was noisy until late evening. This is a problem with many hotels which are chosen because they are conveniently situated to the railway and the town centre. This would NOT stop us staying there again.
The indoor pool was amazing! And if it'd been warmer, we'd have used the outdoor one too. Such a nice town too! The steep climb up to it.
The facilities were very good. I think that the breakfast was very expensive. I do not think that one should have to pay to park. There should be a printer available for guests and free internet access.
The quiet location was lovely. The pools were a blessing in the gorgeous hot weather. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. fortunately we didnt prebook the parking at 11 euros per day. The hotel will provide a car pass for the car park down the hill and although it's a bit of a climb up the hill (for the unfit!) worth the saving.
the reception staff attitude was rude upon both registration and check out. they seem like the guests really bother them.
Very nice location in Harz mountains The hotel is nice, but rather old, needs renovation
The staff were all pleasant the view from our room was fantasticand although some might think it a little pricey it was excellent value
The staff were extremely helpful when we asked to amend our stay at the hotel The buffet menu in the restaurant
The five course dinner in the evening was exceptionally good and the service as well. The swimming pool was excellent with no horrible pool chemical smell.
Room excellent Shower rather cramped
Scenery inside and outside, peacefulness, atmosphere, closeness to nature and town at the same time
Friendly unique hotel, family run, away from the main town. 19 mins walk up a small hill. Food excellent value. Message good. Limited number of staff needed to do most jobs. A little more expensive than others in the Harz Mts but still good value and a unique, historial place.
Lovely atmosphere - very clean and an excellent Breakfast ! No Mini-Bar
The family room was so big, comfortable and clean. The atmosphere of breakfast is very nice. The staff were all kind. Located in the center of the town, good for sightseeing. ファミリールームは大変広く，清潔で，居心地がよかった。朝食の雰囲気も良く，スタッフも皆親切だった。街の中心なので観光もしやすかった。
Excellent breakfast, spacious room, city center
Very spacious rooms/suites, very clean and quite comfotable; very close to the old city. Fantastic little town and lovely surrounds. No option not to take breakfast; hotel staff had limited other languages and were 'functional' rather than welcoming.
This was my second stay at the Hotel. An apartment including separate kitchen/sittingarea and bathroom is excellent value for money. At the Weise Hirsch about 100 yds away you would pay twice the rate for a smaller room. The staff are all very frindly and efficient and the Potato (Kartoffel) House restaurant portions are fantstic. In he summer some rooms can get hot as there is no aircon.
The friendly staff, the excellent breakfast spread,my television broke down but on my return later,it had been fixed, very impressed.
We were very impressed by our room - more of an apartment than a hotel - and it made our stay excellent from the very beginning. The manager and front desk staff were also very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was impressive and delicious, and the Kartoffelhaus was cozy, reasonably priced, and extremely good.
Quiet location Breakfast indoors with closed windows, muggy, no A/C, 86 degrees. adjacent patio was not open for breakfast, unbelievable.
Very spacious rooms, good breakfasts, nice location, no hassles.
Spacious apartment with room to relax and separate bedroom. Useful small kitchen and dining table in room. Good breakfasts provided. Situation very convenient for the town and for the Harz Railway. Nothing of note
Centrally located. Rooms spacious and quiet. Excellent breakfast.
Shopping and Sight seeing
The location was exelent. The breakfast was first class. The price was reasonable.
We were very enjoyed. Thanks a lot.
Staff was very friendly. Shower was hard to adjust temperature.Needed more towels.Noisy at night.Business across street was breaking up furniture well into the night.
Friendly staff, good breakfast, clean tidy Hotel, lovely location on market square, quite rooms.
Hotel staff were very kind. And the location is very nice.
Outstanding four star hotel offering value for money. Very friendly, personal service in a spotlessly clean hotel.Excellent rooms with their own character. Excellent breakfast offering wide choice of hot and cold food. Perfect location in the market square. I give this hotel 10 out of 10! No
Very good location, good breakfast,a wide room, and a smoking area in the hotel. Nothing.
It was cold and quiet- "off season" in the small town before the X'mas markt begins, but it turned out that my family had really a very nice and quiet time in the hotel. Breakfast, dinner at the restaurant were both great. The staff, the large family room, the location...everything was nice. The parking wasn't difficult at all even the hotel locates at the center of the town.
Good welcome and breakfast Restaurant only open one evening (New Year's Eve) of our stay, but with excellent meal. Other evenings we had to eat elsewhere.
The rooms were clean, the personnel was friendly and helpful, the location was good, the city is nice. The restaurant was closed after 1.1.10 -- no food in the evening
Good location, high quality, good service and excellent breakfast.
location, early breakfast, good restaurant and high quality of meal
Clean, good breakfast, English speaking staff Additional tourist tax charged on the room was not made clear on website. Charging for bottled water in room was a bit greedy.
Great access to center of town. Very comfortable hotel with an excellent breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel was centrally located and most suitable. The staff were most helpful and good humoured and nothing was too much trouble. Restaurant had very interesting food. The rooms were clean and spacious and the bathroom was good. The pillows were troublesome. They were large but the sort that were only suitable for those who lie on their back or stomach. Simply they were too thin even when folded double. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room however, I was able to persuade a restaurant member to provide a flask of hot water, a couple of tea bags and a drop of milk. This was provided on a tray which we carried up to the room.
Breakfast was nice. Large selection including warm food. A bit too expensive though at 13 euros per person. The spa area was crap. The saunas were not turned on. They gave us a room on the street side and the noise was so loud we could not sleep.
