Pros: I wish we had booked more nights at Villa Richelieu! The beautiful, large room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was generous, fresh and excellent. I wish we had had more time to swim in the pool, play ping-pong etc. The host was delightful and spoke excellent English.
Cons: Our sat nav could only find the back of the house, which was confusing. Is there an alternative postcode to help us find the front gate?!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Modern Welcoming host Lovely breakfast Swimming pool on site
Cons: Our room was located by the front gate and main road. There was some noise from this and passing cars which lead to a disturbed nights sleep.

7.5 Good
Pros: Convenient parking places right in front of the hotel. Room was modest but comfortable. In line with expectations except for the WiFi. Staff was helpful.
Cons: We arrived early in the afternoon. The place was closed and I had to contact a telephone number to get access. This however took only few minutes. The WiFi connection is very weak on the 3rd floor with all my devices (laptop, smart phone). I had to go down in the lobby of the to first floor to get a connection
7.5 Good
Pros: Great location, friendly staff, historic building
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It is the 2nd time I stayed in hotel, excellent location, very clean, the young couple are very helpful for any questions, it doesn't matter you speak English, french or chinese, the body language is enough to communicate, we understood each other:-))
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice choice of breads and homemade jams at breakfast
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very central to the town. Large bedroom with comfortable bed and excellent bathroom. Helpful receptionist also served breakfast.
Cons: It is all a bit faded and down at heel. Needs some investment.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful people who went above and beyond with some problem solving for us
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Really friendly and helpful proprietors. Comfortable room facing the town hall. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: No onsite parking but with help from the owners we were able to work out the on street parking system so only paid €1 for our stay. No lift and fairly tricky stairs but not really a problem for us and they would have carried our luggage to the room if necessary.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was alright, nothing great but adequate.
Cons: Toilet in the cupboard!! couldn't shut door as it hit against knees, husband's head almost touching roof in passageway, broken lift, dangerous narrowing stairway to negotiate. Awful outlook from bedroom window, pipes, wiring ,bits of other roofs, litter. No air con ( table fan provided). Bottle of water handed to us on arrival. No bar , no restaurant.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: the continental breakfast was good but the location was perfect in the centre of town
Cons: although vey well decorated the room was rather small. However this was not a problem as we spent most of our time out and about in the breathe hotel
9.5 Excellent

Cons: Nothing to dislike.

7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good value. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean.
Cons: We stayed at this hotel because we needed stopover accommodation en route to England. We were not looking for a 5 star place and though the view was not scenic it was not an important factor in what we were looking for.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable and on the hottest day of the year, 41c, the air con was both effective and quiet! Communication by email was good making self payment and room access easy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!
Cons: All was fine thankyou
6.3 Good
Pros: Close to the highway, convenient
Cons: We arrived a bit before 2300h and the recepcionist wasnt there. In order to open the gate of the parking, you first need to go inside and pay upfront in a machine that gives you a couple of codes. All a bit confusing. We are pretty young and into technology so we figured it out how to do it. But I m sure that if someone that isnt into computers had to take the code, they would have slept in the car...

8.3 Excellent (142 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Chatellerault, La Gourmandine is a 4-minute drive from Chatellerault Forest Park and 10 minutes from Aven’Thuré. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s an atmospheric old building which in its heyday would have been I guess an elegant residence. The interior decor is a mix of traditional and modern. Our room had high ceilings and large French windows. It had been adapted to provide an in room modern shower and a partitioned off loo. A bit quirky but ok ! The bed was very comfortable. No in room facilities for making tea or coffee though. There was private parking in the courtyard and only a few minutes to walk to restaurants. The breakfast was standard continental fare, I had absolutely delicious wholemeal baguette, farm made yogurt, fresh orange juice and good coffee. They provided me with decaf which is always appreciated.
Cons: Nothing really. It’s good to stay somewhere which has individuality and is comfortable and in a town location but easy to get to off the motorway on our route back to Caen.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly with good recommendations about restaurant for evening meal. Room clean etc
Cons: Not so much as what didn't like but the hotel had a ghost town like feel. There seemed to be only us and another couple staying with tables etc set for many more. There was a bar area but not operational nor was the advertised restaurant
5.8 Okay
Pros: The room in a modern annexe was OK.
Cons: The services on offer bore no relation to those quoted in guide books. For instance there is no restaurant. The place is generally crumbling with minimal staff. Breakfast was of limited range and quantity.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: Everything you have my emails
6.3 Good
Pros: Bedroom was clean and bed was comfortable. The property has ovely architecture and a nice garden. Staff pleasant and helpful.
Cons: A bad impression on our arrival mid afternoon as the breakfast room had not been cleared. It was nice and tidy a few hours later though. We were surprised to find evening meals are no longer available. We had an excellent dinner very nearby though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel to stay in. Room was lovely, clean and comfy - bathroom was extra big. We did not opt for the breakfast as it was quite expensive and plenty of coffee shops near by. The host was very friendly and helpful. The gardens are gorgeous , nice to relax and have a drink . Free parking was out front, The hot tub and restaurant were both closed -end of season.
Cons: The hotel was very quite so lacked a bit of atmosphere. Not much happening in Chatellerault.

Cons: Only stairs in property but very nice stairs

7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was excellent and we also had a lovely dinner. The bed was very comfortable and a nice clean room with nice towels. The dining area was very rustic and attractive. Easy parking.
Cons: Toilet seat broken and wobbly. Shower head in bath had no fixation point on the wall so difficult to use. Room was very hot could do with a fan. Stairs would be difficult for someone with poor mobility. Not easy to find off the main A10 without very detailed map.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The lady owner was very friendly. She did her best
Cons: The accommodation is outdated and overpriced breakfast is very sober
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old manoir. Very good service and wonderful welcome. Everything homemade for breakfast. Nice pool, necessary this summer!
5.0 Okay
Pros: The chateaux is very pretty, the beds were comfy, bathroom was clean, dinner was nice and the wine was delicious. We arrived early and they let us check in and let us book dinner on the day.
Cons: The whole house was very tired. Needed a lot of time and effort spent on cleaning and renovating. Whole front needed weeding. There were flies everywhere! Outside by the pool and inside whilst having dinner and breakfast. Needed some sort of traps for them around the house as it made eating very uncomfortable and having flies all over the breakfast the next morning didn’t make you want to eat it. The room was boiling and needed a fan and again a fly trap. We had a triple room but there was not enough towels for 3ppl. Flannel in the room looked like it was from the Victorian age. No tea or coffee in the room even though a kettle was provided. No soap or anything to wash with. Thank goodness we had our own. Dogs walking around the property were full of flies and stank. Also barked all night keeping us awake until 1am even though we went to bed at 10pm as we had a long drive back to the UK. Dinner was nice but basic and the service was very poor. Breakfast was shocking. Everything as I said was covered in flies and apart from a hard piece of bread and ham which looked like it had been there all night there wasn’t much else to eat. Cereal was provided but no milk. When I asked for some water she gave me a look as to say what?! We asked for some boiled eggs, which came very hard and nothing really to have them with. We got charged over €200 for the room and dinner which was so over priced. Chateaux was one term but this was a run down old farm house with smelly dogs and flies!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The range of food was lovely. Marie produces most things personally so it is all fresh. Everything is beautifully presented and prepared.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Comfy beds, sheets beautiful quality. Swimming pool superb!
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very pleasant and dinner was fine by lovely open fire. Lovely location.
Cons: Old stairs

Pros: Good location just off D910 or A10 for travellers, nice breakfast, nice staff, reasonable price. Started the upgrade to rooms and outside. Can now get CNN news on TV.
Cons: No air conditioning or fan and room was incredibly hot with little ventilation - unable to sleep.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing whatsoever I cannot recommend this place to anyone. It should be avoided at all costs.
Cons: The staff were rude, uncaring, unhelpful and could not speak any English. It was my worst hotel experience in more than 50 years of foreign travel across Europe, Asia and America. The place was unkempt, unclean, had no bar or restaurant despite advertising they have on your site. No coffee or water available on arrival, The public rooms were unlit giving the impression the place was closed. The entire hotel was in a state of disrepair and chaos. Bread left on breakfast buffet all day. Bathroom grubby, wrench found on side of the bath, toilet roll not in the holder, no light bulbs in fittings. Facia of building collapsing. No toilet paper or working hand dryer in toilets near reception. Terrace a filthy mess and dry grass a fire risk. Loads of single men marauding around the area making one feel unsafe. General lack of security. Car park full of large potholes. This is not acceptable as a hotel and should be removed from your list immediately, be placed under investigation and be closed down. A most rundown and awful place. I was glad to leave for somewhere better.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Countryside
Cons: Not clean
