In 2016 we completed upgrades to the lounge furniture & furnishings. This included a new hob & oven and the main bedroom now has a king-size bed. In our 2017 season, the shower room has also benefitted from refurbishment. New sanitary ware, as well as a bigger shower, has improved the room and allowed us to provide the best possible standard of accommodation. This is not to mention the fact that the refurbishment has created much better circulation space for wheelchairs – we believe that all of our guests should be given the finest of facilities so that they may fully enjoy their stay in North Uist. The sun porch at An Taigh Boighreach is being extended in the spring of 2018 to become a sun room. It will have a panoramic window affording outstanding views over Loch Portain towards the village of Lochmaddy and a new side window in line with the current cottage back door, catching the evening sun. Internally it will be kitted out in conservatory style décor and will be about 10’ x 12’ ( 2.8m x 3.6m.) We will also be installing an en-suite shower-room and toilet off the master bedroom and upgrading some lounge and bedroom furniture. There will be minimal noise and disruption to both cottages during the work, which should be completed by the end of April 2018. An Taigh Boighreach is decorated and equipped to a very high standard while retaining period ecclesiastical features including a lovely cast iron peat burning stove in addition to storage heaters. The house sleeps up to 5 adults plus cot. It also has a large family shower-room. Relax sitting beside the open peat fire and enjoy the views over Loch Portain from the livingroom & sun porch. The house is fully equipped with freeview, a DVD player, iPod, cafetière, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There are garden chairs and disposable BBQs are in each cottage on an honesty box basis - perfect for that last minute picnic. A selection of books, CDs and games are also provided. An Taigh Boighreach is situated on North Uist, an island forming part of the Outer Hebrides on the West Coast of Scotland. It is ideally located only 8 miles from Lochmaddy Ferry Terminal and offers commanding views over both Loch Portain & the Priest's Loch. This idyllic holiday location is surrounded by stunning beaches, stretching machair lands and freshwater lochs. The RSPB Balranald nature reserve is on the west coast of the island and is famous for red kites. Trips to nearby St Kilda can be arranged locally. The fare for the regular short ferry to Harris has been considerably reduced. An Taigh Boighreach benefits from private parking, gardens and a detached garage shared with our other cottage, Loch Portain House, with children's beach toys & body boards – feel free to borrow. You can also store your bikes, fishing rods, canoe and other equipment there. We currently book on a weekly basis, Saturday to Saturday but please call us if you would like to discuss other dates.
