This character, boutique hotel will please you if old-world charm, comfort, warmth, decor and service are your liking. Staff are attentive and professional and will make you feel very welcome. Its well situated too, with easy transport arrangements wherever in Johannesburg you plan to go. Breakfasts are entirely up to five star standard with quality items and excellent service.
Our room (201) was too dark with only one side window. There's no pool if the weather is warm.
The staff are really excellent: friendly efficient and discrete. Cannot praise them highly enough.
Location fine ,staff helpful
hot water problem ,tv problems ,building looks old ,not safe to walk to mall at night
Big room, great staff, good location, good breakfast
This elegant 5-star hotel is a perfect blend of a beautiful earlier-era look and modern amenities. Our massive Royal Suite offered a tastefully furnished living/dining area, separate bedroom, gorgeous bathroom with separate toilet and a powder room. Our big bed proved to be exceedingly comfortable with fine linens and pillows. We loved all the storage space and the perfect lighting. A huge terrace by our ground-floor suite offered the opportunity to sit outside. The property displays how the footprint of a former post office can be renovated to provide a wonderful sanctuary in a busy urban setting. Though buses stop at almost the hotel’s entrance door, no noise enters the building. The Gautrain also stops nearby, providing quick (takes about 20 minutes) transport to and from the airport. But the hotel arranged a transfer for us, because my husband’s mobility problems prevented us from using public transport. It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the Rosebank Mall. We enjoyed the lovely dining room, not only for the high-quality food but also for the superb decor. What an inviting atmosphere! The exceptional staff made the buffet breakfast an occasion to remember. Their service ranked up there with what we have received at three-star Michelin restaurants in France. Exceptional service reigns supreme everywhere in the hotel. Kudos to everyone, who works there, from Housekeeping to front-desk staff. We especially appreciated the kindness and care extended to my husband.
We found no drawbacks to this extremely well-managed hotel.
A sophisticated boutique experience for even the most discerning visitor, Johannesburg's Hotel Monarch combines first-world amenities with old world grandeur, creating a welcoming space for business travellers and tourists alike. From the chandeliered lounges to the manicured garden, the hotel features an eclectic mix of antique furniture and luxurious fabrics, offset by an extensive collection of modern art pieces by new and emerging South African artists.
