Pros: We received an incredibly warm welcome from the family and were instantly made to feel comfortable. The gorgeous old farmhouse is exactly what you picture when you think of a big old French property. The house is clearly very loved and had a real soul. Although we didn’t have time to use the swimming pool it looked very inviting. The breakfast spread was amazing and utterly delicious. All in all a fabulous stay and very much look forward to returning. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others. Thank you for your warm hospitality.

Pros: The on-duty receptionist had phoned us just before we left the UK to check on our late arrival time
Cons: It was late when we arrived and the receptionist had phoned us up earlier to check on our arrival time - midnight. However the automated sign in would not accept any debit/credit cards so we had to wake him up. The room was very small and OK but the bed was extremely creaky and the bathroom door would not close. Two light fittings did not work

Featured amenities include express check-in, express check-out, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. This hotel has 3 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
5.8 Okay
Pros: We found the hotel hard to find, using a sat nav. There was plenty of parking because there were very few people staying there. The room was good, comfortable and well equipped.
Cons: When we arrived, tired and hungry we wanted a couple of beers, a shower, and food. We had spent some time searching for the hotel, which had changed its name after I booked. At check in we were told the kitchen was not open, so no food, but there was a place over the road. We walked over and that was closed as well. I think I was told a lie, it was a Monday. We ended up with take away pizza. I cancelled breakfast, we stopped en route instead.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Wifi is ok.
Cons: When we booked it there hadn’t been free accommodation at reasonable price around. After staying one night I have known the reason. It would have not been so bad if some requirements had been fulfilled. E.g. air conditioning didn’t work, no soap and a minimum renovation in every year would also be required.
6.7 Good
Pros: Location met with expectations - around 4km outside Castres and having a car park was a plus. About 10 mins walk into Saix. Hotel is well fitted out and happy with room although a more comfortable chair would have been better. Breakfast was standard fayre but good value at 8 euros (see also adverse comment).
Cons: When I arrived the price I was charged was in excess to what had been advised by booking.com. The main difference was the 8 euros breakfast which booking.com said had been included yet the hotel showed me paperwork which didn't reflect this. Unfortunately I didn't have the full confirmation with me but I forwarded it to the hotel earlier in the week - still waiting to hear back from them confirming a refund.
6.7 Good
Pros: It has a good sized breakfast with good coffee machine. Room was large.
Cons: Felt like it needs a fix up. Car parking area could have been nicer and the soap box in the shower was broken.

Pros: Nil
Cons: Not the hotel expected or what I understood to have originally booked ! Room very poor motel style with lack of exterior security and lighting . Inside the bed ,clean but not at all comfortable with a home built mezene and ladder restricting access ! Shower did not work with no apparent way to make it do so , if it had I wonder as to the result as there were ancient jets / nozzles all over and the water was hot !!! We could not leave fast enough and would have done the night before but nothing else available ... Thanks but no thanks fr that one .....
5.8 Okay
Cons: Bad ventilation, really strong cleaning agent smell in the room. Loud musinc from the bar until 1:30 A. M.

7.1 Good
Pros: clean room, very -pleasant staff very helpful, always a smile, great service in the restaurant meal good and the wine too, wifi good and simple to connect, Castres is asmall town in lovely setting.
Cons: all good except the shower, this leak's onto the floor and soaks anything on it
7.5 Good
Pros: You expect a certain standard from an Ibis and this place delivered. The staff were really good, helpful (including helping me print 5 boarding passes for our journey home). The lady who ran the restaurant was funny and charming as well as efficient. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. The buffet breakfast was very good, although nothing hot, apart from toast. We only had dinner one night (see below also!); the choice was limited but there was a meat dish, a pasta dish and a fish dish with buffet starters and sweets. The food was cooked nicely and the portions were generous. Wine was quite competitively priced too.
Cons: A group of 5 of us had travelled for the European Rugby Champions Cup match between Castres and Gloucester. For us, without a car, it was a little out of the city centre but taxis were available when we needed them and the local bus service from outside the hotel to the centre is free (sadly it only runs until approx 7:00 PM). It was a 40 -50 minute walk depending on your level of fitness and alcohol consumed. I was also disappointed that the restaurant didn't open Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays for dinner (although breakfast was always available).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Secure fenced off car park. Superb breakfast. Good restaurant when available ( see negatives ) Great location. Modern as newish building. Room large and well appointed.
Cons: On arrival at reception I found out they had already taken payment from my credit card earlier that day. I pay cash on my travels. I understand the supplying of your card details was only to guarantee payment. I had not authorised this payment. Be warned. The restaurant was unavailable on the second night as a rugby team were staying there. I was not given prior notice of this and only found out when I tried to book. McDonalds is 100 metres away and had my custom. I would not have booked this place had I known the restaurant was not available.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: A long way from town centre, but close to large shopping complex.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room, great size bed, hotel was virtually empty, loads of good restaurants in castres
Cons: Nothing

Cons: Location. Quiet but a bit far out of town.

Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel was excellent - right in the centre of Castre. 9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, and it is a hotel with loads of character. We would definitely stay again.
Cons: The bathroom had a double sink, which seemed unneccesary - the space would have been better used to make it easier to get into the bath/shower, as the space was very tight.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Historic hotel with lots of old world charm in the centre of Castres.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very well situated to explore Castres. While it is in the centre, it was very quiet at night. The owner of the hotel was really friendly and very kindly upgraded our booking on arrival to a suite (Asie Impériale). It was an absolutely stunning room, most spectacular in its decoration and very generous in size with many complimentary features. With an interior window, the room was wonderfuly quiet and the large Queen size bed was most comfortable. The hotel is very unusual in its decor throughout and we loved it all. Would not hesitate in recommending this hotel and the friendly owners make it a very personable and enjoyable stay.
Cons: We had no complaints and have only positive comments for Hotel Renaissance.

Pros: location excellent. owners went out of their way to cater for late arrival due to air and train strike. could walk everywhere round old town. breakfast good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A truly wonderful stay right on the river in the centre of this compact and very pleasant town. Friendly and helpful attention from all staff. Rooms are tastefully well-appointed. Particularly liked the large desk, comfortable chair and good lighting by the window looking down on the riverside walk below. If the windows are closed they completely block out any possible street noise; similarly the windows have attractive external wooden shutters that fully block any streetlight at night. The housekeeper was friendly and helpful; both the room and common areas were kept spotlessly clean throughout the stay.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Very clean

8.3 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful old house with very grand apartments and staircase. The accommodation is comfortable and warm and the room and the bed are both spacious.
Cons: We arrived to be greeted with ‘Vous êtes en avance. Il faut venir après 1700h’ in spite of my requesting and being granted an early check in time at the time of booking. There was not even a ‘Bonjour’. This was very upsetting and spoiled what would have been a lovely stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing mansion and the host is just fabulous, super welcoming. The whole breakfast was homemade, from brioche to a variety of jams! Exceptional...
Cons: There’s nothing I didn’t like... actually, I didn’t like the fact that I only booked one night but will come back

Pros: The amazing building - historic, authentically furnished, surrounded by acres of parkland. The bedroom was huge with loads of storage, desk space, and comfortable easy chairs in our bedroom, which gave us somewhere to relax. We had one meal which the host prepared for us - very good. Breakfasts were good too.
Cons: One or two small niggles - no lock on our bedroom door, no decaff coffee for breakfast.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location and historical building. Quiet location
Cons: The evening meal was not as good as previously and poor value for money. We were charged €2 more than the booked price. It’s not a lot but makes you cynical

Grand Hôtel de Castres - Castres - Building
14
8.8 Excellent (263 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The Grand Hôtel de Castres offers a pleasant stay in Castres for those traveling for business or leisure. Wi-Fi in designated areas is available at this property. This hotel makes a great place to kick back and relax after a long day of sightseeing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel was in a great position, ideal for exploring the town. Nice room overlooking the river with fantastic views of the medieval houses, very comfortable, good shower. Old traditional hotel, well modernised. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Parking at the side of the hotel was perfect. Only staying one night originally but stayed two. Would definitely visit again.
Cons: Wooden access ramp (for disabled people) a little rickety and old.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very clean and nice room overlooking the river. Very comfortable bed and quiet. Breakfast was nice but not much of it and was served by the owner almost begrudgingly!
Cons: Very strange not very inviting hotel because of the dark decor and lack of lighting in the public areas. No people about for such a large hotel and it seems to be run by just two people who I presume were the owner and his wife. He was friendly enough and showed us to a parking space in the road outside the hotel as we arrived late and his car park was full even though there only seemed to be a few people staying at the hotel. Hotel was difficult to find as it doesn’t look like a hotel with the doors closed and the sign very high up. It was a bit of a strange experience as we had been travelling around Italy and France for two weeks and everywhere had been cheerful and bright in contrast to this hotel. No restaurant open there either. It could be a great hotel but he seems to be doing it all on a strict budget!
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful and a well appointed room and cleaned daily
Cons: The fact that we were going to eat in the dining room only to find it was closed, we were looking forward to trying the food and wines.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff were quite friendly
Cons: The air conditioning in our room was total rubbish. The room was like a sauna . The public areas of the hotel are dark and dreary.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owners So helpful and attentive Homemade breads and jam and cakes for breakfast The property is very well located for Lautrec The owners advised us on the best locations to go for a meal in the town
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Stayed for the wedding in a chateau close by, so this was a good place to be. Breakfast was great, croissants and bread how it should be (not the sawdust we get in UK), home made jams and yogurt were a treat. Leslie checked in on us a couple of times for top ups on drinks, which was appreciated. This property is on its own, surrounded by trees and fields, so you can be assured of a peaceful sleep. It was very hot when we were staying (30C at 11pm), so we asked for another room to move our two sons to the ground floor (additional beds in the family room are on the mezzanine floor and that was just scorching) which was granted (thank you).
Cons: Nothing the owner could do about, but the heatwave did not allow for a good sleep. A/C would be great but that would ruin the countryside character of the house. Perhaps adding portable fans could help future guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a fabulous location. Absolutely loved everything about our stay here. The hosts were amazing, so helpful and friendly and their homemade jams for breakfast were delicious.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Only slight downside was it was very hot in the room.

We had difficulties getting transport from Toulouse airport so Francoise even picked us up ! The pool area, breakfast and overall amenities were excellent for our weekend away for a friends wedding and we highly recommend here to anyone.
Cons: Everything was excellent so have nothing negative to say for this hotel and its lovely owner.

Pros: Suzzie and Eric are the perfect host's, much like their home. We enjoyed very much all aspects of our three night stay. The peace and quite, the comfort of the room and bed, the views, the swimming pool (Eric providing drinks service at same). The breakfast was excellent and we only ate one night in the house but the meal was also top notch. My wife and I would highly recommend this hotel/house/home to anyone wanting quality accommodation. We will be back!
Cons: Nothing, all perfect, and we mean everything.

Pros: Fabulous guesthouse with outstanding swimming pool and delicious food. It was 41 degrees when we stayed there and the pool was heavenly, and directly in front of the house not hidden away somewhere. It was beautiful to sit outside the front of the house and eat in the evening. The atmosphere, and the food and the wine, were all superb. I'd highly recommend this hotel, especially if you are looking for somewhere in the countryside with a pool. It's only about an hour's drive east of Toulouse airport making it a great first or last stop on a fly-drive holiday.
Cons: There is no air-con which I totally understand in such an old house, but our room on the top floor under the roof was very hot making it difficult to sleep, even with the fan going all night. But we stayed during a heat wave so I'm sure these were very unusual circumstances, and I imagine all the other rooms with higher ceilings were cooler.

Pros: Beautiful setting. Very friendly owners. Children enjoyed the pool. Interior decoration lovely. Cool room despite the heatwave and no air conditioning! Great breakfast.
Cons: We couldn’t stay 2 nights. :-)

Pros: Jadique was an excellent host and made a wonderful breakfast - it was a joy to see her smiling face each morning. The room was super spacious with a large shared terrace (shared with the room next door). The bathroom was small and a little dated but more than adequate at this price range. The bed was large with lovely high quality white bed linen. We slept well and would return again. Parking was outside the main gate but was easy. A great location to walk into town and nice and quiet.
Cons: The bathroom was a little snug.

Pros: We came to Castres for a wedding and stayed here. The family who run the B & B are amazingly helpful. The house is set in a beautiful garden with it’s own swimming pool. It was beautifully secluded and peaceful. Communication was great. Nothing was too much hassle. Breakfast was very tasty and able to eat outside. A shared terrace looking out to the pool. All within in a ten minute walk of the central of Castres. Loved this place will be back.
