Pros: Everything is just perfect since we arrived till we leave. Very productive and friendly staffs. Nice and clean room with everything you want. Nice Onsen facilities
Cons: Not at all
Pros: Serene and zen , yet has great elegance , appeal and character.
Cons: Shld add a cigar room
Pros: The property is beautiful!
Cons: Private onsen area did not have a place to hang up towels or yukatas. There were no baskets provided for yukatas either. This seemed strange based on other ryokans where we have stayed. The dining room was a bit loud.
Pros: Location, food, staff, everything was absolutely wonderful! They treated us like royals!
Cons: Absolutely nothing.
Pros: Very good for the private vacation and also excellent service, very nice people! The traditional Japanese dishes is amazing!
Cons: The transportation from the railway station to the hotel is not so convenient, everyday just one time shuttle bus is not enough.
Tokine no Yado Yunushi Ichijoh is located in Shiroishi and about 15 minutes by taxi from Shiroishi-Zao Station, near Shiroishi Castle and Zao Fox Villege. Yukata are available for guests to wear during their stay. Guests may borrow conveniences such as irons and kettles at no additional charge (please inquire at the front desk for details). Facilities include a communal bath, an open-air bath and a coin laundry. The hotel possesses 24 guest rooms.
Pros: I can't even begin to describe how great this place is. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese Hotel/Ryokan where you can relax and truly feel pampered...look no further. The staff is absolutely marvelous. The Chef deserves to be put in some hall of fame! In fact I think this restaurant should be awarded Michelin Stars. I never had food so good in my life. The public bath is incredible. Shiroishi is a beautiful town. If you are a fan of Japanese history you can see the castle. The hotel provides shuttle drive to downtown. The world famous fox village is also there. I'm an animal enthusiast photographer and this is my second time at the hotel. I've taken beautiful photographs that have been published on yourshot at National Geographic. I will make it a point to go there every time I'm in Japan. The beauty of the surrounding nature is truly a medicine for the soul.
Cons: Absolutely nothing. It is perfect as is.
Pros: Hotel look stylish
Cons: No laundry service!
Pros: Private Onsen which must desired. The private concierge or staff assign who direct to our room, private onsen, meals in a private room is remarkable. Recommended for unwinding and relaxation. The food selection is first class and my wife got nuts allergy which was asked beforehand or in fact upon arrival. The hotel had anticipate almost everything that you had wished for and would very much come again.
Cons: Location wise can be far from main town as it is an Onsen hot spot. Couple stairs to reach some places.
Pros: I loved absolutely everything about this ryoukan. My boyfriend and I originally had only planned to stay one night, but after only an hour and a half there we knew we just had to stay longer so we booked another night. The food is spectacular; it's all locally sourced and handmade - all the way down to the yogurt. Dinner and breakfast are included in your room price. The onsen are relaxing and clean, and you can get massage service in your room for a pretty reasonable price. The staff is welcoming and helpful and spoke English very well. This is truly a full service stay.
Cons: The ONLY thing bad I could possibly say about this place is that there isn't too much to do on the ryoukan grounds except relax. However, you could always pop into the city of Shiroishi and explore.
Pros: Service, food and onsen
Pros: Friendly staff and service. Shuttle service.
Cons: Read too many rave reviews which raise our expectations.
Pros: All of the staffs were friendly and so professional. I’d like to visit again!!
Pros: Service and facilities
Pros: Service. Thank you Kon-san for looking after us.

Pros: the staff the best!!!!
Cons: a bit very far
Pros: I really loved the warm welcome I got. Also the restaurant owned by the same people is amazing! People there are so nice (staff and other customers). Just an amazing experience altogether. Definitely recommend this place for anyone travelling in Japan ;) Thank you so much for everything!
Pros: Very good restaurant from the same owner nearby with friendly japanese. Coworking space just under for confortable work. And there is a full scale rocket in the center of the town !
Pros: Great staff and value for money. Everyone was very helpful and kind.
Cons: Nothing, it was really good.
Pros: Simple and heart warming.
Pros: The staff made me feel very welcome and spoke English well. The common area was stylish yet homely and had a kitchen. I went to the restaurant associated with the guesthouse and the food was delicious and the staff were delightful.
With a stay at Suzukiya Ryokan in Shiroishi, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Zao Fox Village and Obara Onsen. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: ➕➕ The staff was extremely friendly and nice, and even if my Japanese wasn't good, it was possible to converse in English. The ryokan offers paying by card. The price was good. ➕ The ryokan itself is very nice, being both modern and traditional looking with lots of pretty Japanese-style decor. ➕➕ The room i stayed at was huge with nice big window and lots of pretty little things, like a proper tea set with a can of proper sencha. Wi-fi was surprisingly fast. ➕➕ The stay was a rare case of a ryokan having a yukata large enough for huge me. ➕➕ Both the indoor and the outdoor bath are absolutely superb, especially the outdoor one. As i stayed at a time the hotel was mostly empty, i was alone at both. ➕➕ The dinner and the breakfast (Japanese-style) were superb, tasty, with great variety, huge, and served in the room, well worth the price. ➕ There are a few vending machines on site selling both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. There is also a drink menu that i haven't personally tried. ➕ There is a small shop with omiyage (sweet and not-so-sweet souvenirs) from the area, and the room has samples of a few to try before buying. ➕➖ The hotel is located in Kamasaki Onsen area in the middle between Shiroishi town and Zao mountain area. Remote area means it is peaceful and quiet, but nearby are only a few other ryokan, a post office and a tiny bus station with a library, no conbini and no places to walk around. If you plan on going anywhere you have to use a taxi or time your journey to a rare shuttle bus or to ryokan's shuttle. So, in my case, from the station to the ryokan, from the ryokan to the Kitsune Mura (Zao Fox Village) and from the Kitsune Mura it took three expensive taxi rides. Notices that taxi seems to be cash-only. ➕➕ Fortunately there is a free shuttle to and from Shiroishizao station offered by the ryokan. I left early, but i was treated with a free shuttle to Shiroishizao station which i am absolutely thankful for!
Cons: ➕➖ The only real negatives would be, as mentioned in the positives, difficulties with reaching the place and travelling to/from locations around. ➕➖ There wasn't a shower in the room, which can be an inconvenience, but honestly, it wasn't necessary with showers in both outdoor and indoor bath.
Pros: Everything has been nice during our stay at the Suzukiya Ryokan, the super attentive staff made us feel we were their sole and most important guests. The breakfast and dinner were served in our room, wonderfully presented and, of course, deliciously Japanese. The Suzukiya Ryokan is nicely furnished and decorated. It has a little gift shop and a vending machine can make you a warm coffee 24/24.
Cons: This was the most modern Ryokan I have ever been into. It has a boxy structure when seen from the outside, I found it not to be visually attracting.
Pros: Outdoor onsen is really nice, food delicious and the staff is so nice!
Pros: Staff were very friendly, accommodating and went the extra mile. The room was beautiful and the onsen was great. Recommend staying here.
Pros: I loved how they were mostly concern about my well being. Came in a checked up on me, asked me if I was going to attend the open bath house they have. Great friendly environment!
Pros: The location sits outside of town nested in a hill. Beautiful location
Cons: The staff was fantastic! Very kind and helpful. The rooms were comfortable with nice views. The outside bath was wonderful, especially when snowing at night. They offered and drove us the fox village. Very hospitable, cozy and clean.
Pros: A genuine Japanese Ryokan experience. The room was nice and big with Tatami mats, and the service was outstanding. There are two Onsen available - one indoors and one on the roof - which I can definitely recommend even though they cost a little bit extra. Traditional Japanese Breakfast and Dinner also costs extra, but is well worth the money. It's varied and so plentiful we didn't even bother eating lunch. My favourite nearby attraction is Zao Fox Village.
Cons: The beds are traditional Japanese Futons, which means they are more like mats on the floor, which is something you need to be ready for. However, I still slept well on them. Also, you need to consider that it's quite some distance outside of the city, so i recommend renting a car to get there. The one thing that will prevent me for staying at a place like this more often is the price, which I consider to be a bit steep even for all the luxurious facilities.
Pros: The staff were very nice! Drove me to and from the station as well as to and from Zao Fox Village! They were always nice and smiling. There are two inside public baths that are gender separated and they rotate them each day at 6pm. I bought food at a konbini before arriving and they warmed it up in the microwave for me every time I wanted
Cons: The male outside bath had a lot of (sorry Idk the word in English) green stuff on the wood, it could have been cleaner
Pros: The staff is very helpful even they are not good in English. There is a free parking in front of the hotel. The ryokan locates in a small village which is good for relax.
Cons: No convenient stores near the hotel.
Pros: The staff was really nice and friendly. Despite they could not speak much English we communicated very well. The breakfast was perfect and served in the room. Osen and other facilities were perfect. Not cheap but worth its price

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Typical Route Inn. Clean with nice breakfast. Walking distance of restaurants. Excellent onsen.

Pros: Near airport, new & clean hotel
Cons: Room is small but is ok for 1 night stay.
Pros: Staff veey friendly and accomodaring. Going above and beyond duty to help us catch our early morning train
Cons: It is a 25 minutes walk in either direction for a train station
Pros: The room and public bath were great. Breakfast was delicious and the staff treated me well.
Cons: Getting there! There’s no bus to the place from the train station, so you’d need to get a taxi - or walk. Also, beside of the hotels restaurant and vending machine, there’s nowhere to eat.
Mahoroba is a 3-star property situated in To-katta. Guests can unwind in a shared bath with free-flowing hot spring water in an annex. Free WiFi is available. At the ryokan, the rooms have a desk and a TV. All guest rooms feature a wardrobe. An Asian breakfast is available each morning at Mahoroba. Sendai is 31 km from the accommodation, while Fukushima is 41 km away. Sendai Airport is 30 km from the property.
Pros: Wow. Everything. The hotel was so beautiful and the room was amazing. The atmosphere is completely geared for you to relax. It's very traditional, with yukata for you to lounge around in (and wear out and about, to dinner, breakfast, etc.) an onsen (no tattoos permitted fyi) and traditional dishes for the free breakfast. If you are particular about food like me, you might struggle but give it a try. The staff is so nice! You will be interacting with them a lot since they also serve you dinner if you go to the barbecue restaurant next door and the free breakfast that comes with the room, but they are so friendly and easy to talk to, even with a language barrier. The staff has a device that translates speech in real time so it allows you to communicate pretty effectively. The private bath that is available with certain rooms is AMAZING. I will be missing it for the rest of my life I think. The water that is used is hot spring water so if you want to soak in hot spring water with privacy it is perfect. It's the perfect depth that you can sit down fully and it hits right above your shoulder and so large you can stretch out and relax. Comfortably fits 2 people. The thing that brings this hotel from a 10 to an 11 for me is that they also have a family of adorable cats they feed outside the hotel that might let you pet them if you gain their trust. And cat toys you can use to play with them! It was totally unexpected but so cute. We can't wait to come back here.
Cons: Food options very close to the hotel are limited, and the restaurants next door do not have English menus (though the staff will do their very best to translate it for you and give you excellent customer service). If you walk <10 minutes, there are more restaurants though you might have to use Google translate to order
Pros: The photo didn't really show the real beauty of this hotel. It is spacious (rare in Japan ) and clean, with private onsen in the room!
With a stay at Mogamiya Ryokan in Shiroishi, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Zao Fox Village and Obara Onsen. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: We had a great stay here, it was a fun experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something different from your usual hotel. The onsen we really nice after a day exploring the area. Staff were helpful and very sweet.
Cons: You will need a car to get here.
Pros: The Onsen was great and the traditional rooms and meals were great. The staff were incredible . Friendliest staff I’ve ever experienced.
Cons: Hotel was in the middle of no where. Would recommend having a car if you are going to stay here.
Pros: It‘s a beautiful Ryokan with lovely staff who were very welcoming and extremely helpful. The location is very close to Fox Village and Shiroishi Station, a very quiet and relaxing place.
Pros: Great staff and a lovely room.
Pros: We have never in our life experienced hospitality like the one at Mogamiya Ryokan. We were blown away with the kindness and helpfulness of the family that runs the hotel. We travelled around Japan for 3 weeks, and this was the best accommodation we stayed at. We had dinner there every evening of the stay and the food was of highest quality. Finally, the in-house private Onsen was an excellent place to relax after an intense day. Mogamiya Ryokan and the people that work there will always have a special place in our hearts and we will definitely go back there when we return to Japan. Thank you so much!
Cons: We recommend that people stack up with snacks when they are in town, in case of late night munchies because there are no convenience stores around. On the other hand, the remoteness of the area provides a very peaceful and relaxing surroundings.
Pros: Excellent hot springs bath; very friendly staff
Pros: -pretty easy to get to (there is a bus from the Shiroishi station that goes up almost right to the ryokan) -beautiful location: mountains, a simply enchanting forest, and a lot of different nooks to explore (also a bus ride away from the zao fox village) -the building itself is simply beautuful -looks like something out of Spirited Away -there is a possibility of making a reservation for a private bath and it's really cheap! I greately recommend it-especially for couples . -the rooms are comfortable and pretty and have a little balcony area where you can sit and relax -the breakfast is delightful and delicious -really kind and helpful staff -there is a reasonably priced souvenir shop downstairs
Cons: Nothing I can think of
Pros: Helpful staff, my first time at a Ryokan, very patient and explained everything to me very well. Understanding with meel needs, excellent food. Clean private bathing area available. 110% ++A
Pros: Brilliant traditional Japanese room in the mountains. Extremely peaceful. Staff are absolutely lovely also!
Cons: Make sure you either reserve dinner and breakfast when you book or bring food with you as there’s little available otherwise.
Located in Natori, Hotel Route-Inn Natori is within a 15-minute drive of Tohoku University and Sendai International Center. Featured amenities include laundry facilities and a vending machine.
Pros: Good location. Free WiFi.
Pros: Location and costs are the main things I like to mention
Cons: Bad smell in the reception area
Pros: Typical Japanese-style business hotel. Clean room with many facilities (fridge, electric kettle etc.). Very nice breakfast buffet. Close to Sendai Airport (10 minutes by train). Big shopping mall around the corner.

With a stay at Active Resorts MIYAGI ZAO in Zao, you'll be steps from Togatta Onsen and a 4-minute drive from Zao Dairy Farm. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and laundry facilities. Planning an event in Zao? This hotel has facilities measuring 7190 square feet (668 square meters), including a conference center. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: I could not believe how big the property and rooms where there was an amazing amount of space. I highly recommend this place for groups of 3 or 4 you can split the cost evenly and have a very cheap stay for a rather high class hotel with ryokan rooms available. The view of EBOSHi ski/snow resort could not have been better, I even had my own little private spot to view the fire work show run by EBOSHi resort. About a $25 taxi to EBOSHi resort A 20 minute walk to the "town"/convince store. can rent a bicycle.
Cons: Difficult Location if you do not have a car.
Pros: - The breakfast line buffet is amazing! Full of many choices (both Japanese and international) with great taste! Even though there are many guests, but the hotel runs it very smoothly. - Free parking area
Cons: Hotel staff cannot really communicate in English.
Pros: The staff can speak my language, which is unexpected.
Pros: Lots of entertainment on site. Beautiful location. Good access to Zao Fox Village.
Cons: The room was a little aged, but it didn’t bother us at all. Our stay was very comfortable.
Pros: Clean and spacious room. Good buffet - you can have all the Sendai beef tongue you can eat. Also enjoyed arcade game center and ourdoor onsen.
Cons: A bit far from Zao town center （20 mins walk）.
Pros: Hotel had everything.
Cons: Nothing Else in vicinity.
Pros: At the mouth of the Zao Echoline, which leads you to many beautiful sights around Miyagi and Yamagata prefecture.
Cons: Breakfast and dinner costs were not clearly laid out. I was not presented with any meal coupons nor was I informed that they were not a part of my booking. Ended up going to the restaurant only to be turned away. Had to go to to the nearby convenience store to get my food. Decided to skip breakfast as well as I figured out they would straight out reject me for any meals as well. At check out the front desk man had the cheek to charge me for meals I never had so I made him strike it off the receipt. Disappointing.
Pros: The public baht is big and good . The food in buffet style are fine .
Cons: I do not like to make the bed by myself .
Pros: The public bath is quite large. There are quite a lot of facilities.
Cons: The facilities are old and need to be repaired. The location is quite far away from the town. The staff did not help us do the bed.
Pros: Buffet was fantastic! The ofuro was a really nice size and the gaming area was good fun.
