Pros: Such a great place to stay prior to walking the kumano kodo- clean, cosy, close to train/bus station. The manager who greeted us was really friendly and gave us a number of restaurant and shopping suggestions. The beds and pillows were really comfortable too!
Cons: Nothing- it was all great.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: No breakfast offered.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: beautifully designed. food was delicious but they forgot to tell us about the fact they serve food.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful traditional house and within 2mins walk from train station.
Cons: Common areas that are cement-based floor needs cleaning.
6.7 Good
Pros: The Cue is a hostel style place with shared kitchen/bathroom/living area. It has Japanese style rooms with futon mattresses. Due to its location its very handy for lots of bars and restaurants. It has its own bar also though that was unavailable when we were there due to a private function.
Cons: It was a bit hard to find. It's located down an alley behind shops and there are no signs showing you the way. Our room was on a corner, at street level and it was noisy at night, people and scooters passing within feet of us. It was also quite light in our room from external lights, maybe they should consider blackout blinds. If you're needing an early start maybe ask for a room away from the street.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Welcoming and authentic.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Cue had everything a traveler needs. A friendly young woman checked us in and showed us the facility and our room. The room and bathrooms were clean. There’s a shared shower and two bathrooms (male and female). I wear earplugs so noise was not a problem. The location is excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to station reasonably priced nice stuff
Cons: The walls are very thin and the man next-door was talking on his phone all night so I could hear every word

8.3 Excellent
Pros: No breakfast but a great selection of beautiful sponge cakes to take with you on your day's activities. Plenty of places to find meals in town at night but not so many in the morning.
Cons: Shared fridge was a problem. We bought our own milk and food for breakfast and found other guests helped themselves before departing. Maybe a system is required? Cleanliness and maintenance is a bit run down.

Pros: Extremely helpful and considerate staff.
Cons: Smoking in rooms on our floor. 9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff are incredibly hospitable and super friendly. They bend over backwards to help. I had half-board with dinner, the food is some of the best I've had in Japan, the variety and number of dishes is amazing. The bathes are really well presented, there's a number to choose from and the outdoor ones are bliss after a long day's hiking. Their shuttle bus is very accommodating as they picked me up and dropped me off, at varying locations, several times. Thanks again!
Cons: I didn't dislike anything. Do note that you shouldn't expect a spanking new and modern hotel - it's charming and has character. I think it seems popular with Japanese tourists which can only be a good thing, in my opinion.
6.3 Good
Pros: Staff was very nice
Cons: Room smelled like a fry kitchen.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff, Kitchen, Public space, Atmosphere
Cons: No elevator, No private bathroom and toilets All of this was known before so no complaints
10.0 Excellent
Pros: J-Hoppers is amazing! Less hostel, more stylish hotel, this place totally exceeded our expectations. It’s spacious and traditional, different to most hostels that feel kinda cramped and cheap. The communal dining space is elegant yet relaxed, with a spotless kitchen and sweet touches like free rice and porridge in the morning (as all-day hikers, we really appreciated this mealtime bonus!). Our double room was dreamy. We loved it. The futons are super comfy, and the big windows were brilliant both for fresh air and a sense of spaciousness and calm. Oh, and three private onsen on-site was the icing on the cake! We were lucky enough to score the outdoor onsen in the morning, which was piping hot and remedial for our weary walking legs. The friendliest staff, too! Can’t fault this place. Highly recommended.

6.0 Good
Pros: Airconditioning was fine.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love the place!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location about 10 min walk to the beach. Nice quiet area. The host, Rinji, was awesome!! I called to ask for directions from the train station and he offered to pick us up there!! He also gave a really good introduction to the town, provided maps and restaurant recommendations, and organized a taxi to take us to the airport the next day.
Cons: It would have been nice to be able to take a shower in the morning, since there were only 3 of us staying that day, but it is not unusual for morning showers to be prohibited in guesthouses in Japan so i wasn't overly surprised by this.

Pros: Close to the beach and city center, nice view on sunset
Cons: Rooms are a bit noisy, especially the elevator ding noise woke us up from 06:00am...
4.0 Okay
Pros: Great seaview. good fitness facilities.
Cons: Usually you can expect high quality in this price category. Not at Marriott Shirahama: our bathroom was really old, not refurbished and what matters even more - rundown and mouldy. Who is looking forward to a location fitting to the room rates will be extremely disappointed. A great seaview and good fitness facilities are not enough to justify what is invoiced.

Pros: Very quiet and peaceful. Even the AC whispered. The view from the room was beautiful and in keeping with the feel of the accommodation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel presented tremendous value. Room was large, and included lots of extras and fabulous toiletries. The Onsen here is the best! It has 2 large natural rock pools outside near the river with natural hot springs. They were the best Onsen we’ve experienced in Japan. Marina, a Japanese girl who works here and speaks very good English, was very helpful as were all of the staff members. We went to dinner in town one evening and they provided transportation to and from the restaurant free of charge. I highly recommend this hotel. We had a wonderful stay.
