We liked the quiet environment and our huge bed. The hotel is located sufficiently well if you want to visit places like Kuldiga, Dundaga, Kolka, Ventspils or Jurmala (as there is not that much to see in Kandava itself). There are two supermarkets just a stone's throw from the hotel. The relatively cheap price was another bonus. The bathroom (esp. the shower) was rather disappointing. The smells from the kitchen found their way into our room all too easily. The host did not speak English (but her Russian was fine). We had no choice when it comes to breakfast, and the actual breakfasts were reasonably good, but a little odd (kind of salads rather difficult to describe).
not good service, breakfast was very small
Next to the sea limited choice at breakfast, for every additional topic you have to pay
It was on the seaside :) Sewerage of the hotel is based in the beach and when wind blows it's impossible to be there, but you can go few meters away. Also if you take the room in the attic there is not enough of ventilation.
Jaunmoku is set in a lovely estate in the Latvian countryside about 10 minutes out of Tukums by car. It was extremely peaceful and quiet which is exactly what we wanted. There was no restaurant open for dinner (maybe because there were few people there in the off season) but the rate included a very good breakfast (with a cooked option). Staff were very pleasant too.
The ambience and location. Excellent grounds for birdwatching Menu and evening meal facility is somewhat limited (evening meals are not always available) but there are good facilities in the nearby town.
They had no record of our booking and the large room we had specifically booked was already in use. The only way to describe this is completely and utterly unprofessional.
the kindness of the people
The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful!
Very difficult to say, it is in city centre, but the city is very small. There is free internet but barely works. Parking is also free, but I wouldn't consider it as secure. It is hotel built around ice skating hall. Very cold, small heater which was hardly working. We asked several times, but without any effect. There is very bad acoustic isolation, you can hear everything on corridor as well as in rooms around. Loud music at evenings coming from ice hall. Breakfast very basic. Lady in reception was trying to be nice, but she hardly could speak any english.
