Pros: Lovedddd our stay here! Rooms are minimal but clean and spacious. Bathrooms are so clean and modern. Public bath was great as well. Would definitely return again. Fire ceremony and prayers were an amazing experience!!! Staff was even kind enough to store my babys' milk in their fridge overnight. Also 10 min walk from Kakimotoya onsen.
Cons: Everything was great
Pros: It is a unique beautiful location. I went there twice - I will do it again!
Pros: Pillows aren't very confortable
Pros: Monks were extremely hospitable and the whole experience was great
Cons: Not easy to access
Pros: Excellent stay in a beautiful temple, stuff is super friendly and helpful.
Pros: This was truly a magic experience. If you are into spiritual journey, this place is a must.
Pros: Amazing experience don’t miss the fire ceremony and morning prayer
With a stay at CANDEO HOTELS NARA KASHIHARA in Kashihara, you'll be a 4-minute drive from Kashihara Shrine and 9 minutes from Nara Kenko Land. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities.
Pros: Close to yagi station, clean, wonderful staff.
Pros: - Very close to the train station - Overlooking view of Nara and surrounding mountains - Absolutely relaxing onsen and common area at the top floor!
Pros: SO close and easy to get to from Yamato-Yagi station! The view from our room was beautiful too, you can see the city with the mountains in the back. The room itself was very clean and comfortable. We didn't do this option, but there is a breakfast buffet available for a price. The food looks very good and I wish I could have tried some for myself. There's also a spa available for use too. Staff is very friendly as well.
Cons: The lobby is on the 9th floor of the building and sometimes the elevator can be a little slow. Therefore if your room is on a different level it may take some time to get there. (Luckily our room was on the same floor as the lobby)
Pros: really close to the train station, good for business and stop by
Cons: bed is too soft.
Pros: good location if you have a kintetsu rail pass and plan to visit nara from nagoya.. bathing room is at the top of the building, good view and relaxing.
Cons: small room. and there's nothing to see from the balcony. no offering for even one more quilt.
Pros: Very spacious and comfortable room. Hotel conveniently located very close to the station. Nice view over the city. Spa available for free.
Cons: People with tatoos not accepted in the spa. Not switch between women and men spas, while we would have appreciated to discover the other spa where you have the view over the city from the sauna. Breakfast a bit expensive. Also in our room the light switcher for the bathroom was not well located (behind the door).
Pros: Everything about this hotel was excellent. The only reason I booked there was because I was visiting Yoshino as a tourist, and this was the closest location I could find accommodation. Kashihara isn't a place non-Japanese speakers are likely to go, and yet what I liked best was the very helpful staff member at the desk who was able to be very helpful in English. Since I was going to be traveling on the next day from Yoshino and not returning to Kashihara, I needed a solution to the question of what to with my luggage, and she found me a service whereby I could have my suitcase delivered to my next destination for less than 14 US dollars. If you are ever in Kashihara, this is the place to stay!
Pros: Clean and neat.
Cons: More friendly front desk.
Pros: Excellent breakfast ! Friendly staffs. High C/P value.
When you stay at Kakimotoya in Sango, you'll be in the historical district and 8 minutes by car from Horyu-ji Temple. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: friendly staff and great food! everything is perfect and had a wonderful stay
Cons: everything is good to us
Pros: Beautiful scenery, kind and gracious service , lovely baths
Pros: Super clean room with beautiful view and lovely public bath! Very peaceful
Cons: The breakfast was too salty for our liking.
Pros: The location was lovely, very close to a nearby stunning temple. Great views from our balcony. The public onsen were also very nicely kept. The hotel was very clean and well-polished, and the staff tried their best to help where they could. The restaurant for dinner was wonderful, and one of the best meals I had on vacation.
Cons: Very expensive for quite a basic room. I think this hotel is best for people who can afford to really go all-out without having to strictly budget.
Pros: The staff were welcoming, enthusiastic and kind. From the moment we walked in we felt at home! The room and facilities were gorgeous, as were the location and views.
Pros: I liked the view in my room and the style of the hotel.
Cons: It didn’t have much condiment. The bath looked old. No wonder they didn’t have any pictures of bath and bathroom. The food was okay too. It’s really old building.
Pros: Food was amazing! The dinner course is a must try!!
Cons: No shower in bedroom + check in and checkout times are not very friendly for a 1 night stay
Pros: Beautiful view of green forest, very peaceful.
Pros: We loved this ryokan! The food was plentiful and amazing so I do suggest getting the half board and having an outdoor bath on the balcony was perfect on a chilly night. The view from the balcony was spectacular especially with the cherry blossoms underneath our room. The staff was so hospitable, serving us tea in the lobby as someone took our bags up to our room. There was a mixup with a food allergy that I had alerted the property staff of although they may not have gotten the revised message but they worked with us to fix the situation last minute. They provided traditional wear for us to have on while at the ryokan and were very kind, especially when working through the language barrier. The area is full of tradition with shrine activity so visit during your stay. After checking out, they let us leave our bags in the lobby so that we could explore for a few hours as we could not the day before during to the weather. There is a bungee jump for those that are into that in the area as well, an 10 minute walk away.
Cons: Nothing bad to say about the property. My credit card wouldnt work there for some reason so I would just say have a backup just in case because we had to use a debit card instead.
Located in Sango, Ryotei Jyusouya is in the historical district, a 1-minute drive from Chogosonshiji Temple and 9 minutes from Horyu-ji Temple. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Staff were fantastic: picked us up from the train station, were very attentive and made every effort. The neighboring shrine makes for a very pleasant afternoon. The food was really good and had great variety, better than average I think for ryokans of that level.
Cons: Not really a complaint but might be a good idea for the ryokan to ask guests in advance for meals like breakfast where there is a choice. On the first morning, we got a western breakfast which though considerate of them to cater for our tastes, if we had the choice we would have asked for traditional Japanese. We politely asked them for Japanese the next morning and we got a full traditional breakfast. Perhaps some other foreign guests would prefer western so this could be particular to us. Again, staff were all super kind so do let them know if you have any questions or requests.
Pros: The Ryokan is not in an acient building and the first impression in the lobby is a bit 80's. That said, the room was very nice and only the well-integrated technology (speakers, air-conditioning) reminded of the rather recent built. Our room had a place to wash and a separate toilet - and no shower or bath, since the bath is common, like in an onsen (shower facilities to clean thoroughly before stepping - always entirely naked - into the hot bath; men and women are separate). The dinner in the room next to ours, where we then were by ourselves, was simply spectacular, absolutely delicious, and justifies the rather steep price. Our own room was re-arranged during dinner with the futons (separate), on which we slept very well. Except for the gentlemen who picked us up from the Oji train station (which is easy to reach from Kyoto or Osaka), the staff does not really speak any English - and still, that was not a problem at all: hand gestures, logic and smiles made up for that and we had no difficulties at all. The only down-side in all this was... our stomachs, who could not quite handle the equally impressive and very elaborate festive Japanese breakfast, which would make for a sumptuous dinner in Europe. Yet eating it in the morning, we both had a bit of a tough time with the salt, spices and intense protein (especially fish and seafood), as our stomachs were a bit irritated afterwards. Yet that was only our own "weakness" as the food was clearly of impeccable quality.
Cons: Nothing really; this is simply not a place for foreigners who are not willing to immerse in a totally Japanese experience (see below). Indeed, non Japanese guest seem to be rare in this lovely place.
Pros: the breakfast was excellent and the facility was comfortable, but slightly dated. The staff were excellent and very friendly and were doing the best to facilitate our needs despite language barriers.
Cons: The facilities were clean and just dated. There was some evidence of wear and tear on the property. I understand that security is a priority for any facility, but I would have loved it if I cold open the window within the bath.
When you stay at Shigisan Kanko Hotel in Sango, you'll be 9 minutes by car from Horyu-ji Temple. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided at no charge.
Pros: really awesome authentic japanese style ryokan, with its own onsen (hot spring baths) in the ground floor that looks out on the amazing view.
Cons: it's very remote and kind of tough to get to, even by car in the hills and certainly by public transit. It's not really near Nara which is how it was advertised. Tough to get by with only english/no japanese, but the staff was friendly and patient enough with us that we managed.
Located in Kashihara, THE KASHIHARA is within a 5-minute drive of Kashihara Shrine and Mausoleum of Emperor Jimmu. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and an elevator (lift). Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: This is an exceptional hotel for the price, i would recommend it to anyone.
Pros: Great hotel for the money
Pros: Location near train station. Over not bad. A bit noisy because of trains but they stop running at about 11.30pm.
Cons: Hotel allows smoking in all rooms and the smell is obvious. There were posters that they were celebrating 25th year. Room interior showed it, especially the sofa. Hotel has only twin rooms which I found not adding to the comfort and enjoyment. In-house dining and drinks very expensive.
Pros: Spacious room and clean public bath.
Cons: Room very stuffy. Staff speak very little English.
Pros: Nice location and dinner
Pros: They have a Great breakfast. The staff was really super. They also have 2 super bartenders Koji & Mari. They have 3 in house restaurants, hmmm honestly not so great food and expensive for what it is. I would highly suggest no carpeting in the rooms for various cleanliness and sanitary reasons. The view from “my room” was not so great. The location is good having access to Kinetsu and great kocal Izakaya restaurants.
Cons: The room was clean and a very nice size. The carpeting was not nice. The beds were average. The rest was fine, and internet access was intermittent.
Pros: Free parking and onsen
Cons: The noise of train, even close the window still can hear the noise
Cons: staff was underqualified everything was old and bad
Pros: The hot spring meets my expectation.
Cons: We booked a standard room with 2 single beds on Booking.com. But we were told at the reception that a standard room was for 1 person only. How on earth can 1 person sleep in 2 single beds? They intended to charge us almost double the listed price! We insisted that we were not to blame and it was either Booking.com’s or their fault. We had a bit of a row. The manager eventually arranged a ‘double room’ at the original price. It wasn’t a great experience after all.
A business hotel located on a quiet street on the old highway. We have a 200-year old teahouse.
Cons: 11pm curfew is a bit annoying. We were out having a good time and had to cut our time short because of the curfew, but apart from that, everything was adequate
Pros: Very spacious! Very comfortable and the staffs are so friendly..there’s even washing machine and vending machine provided..great place to stay with family
Pros: The hotel's situation is its strongest point. It's close to Yamato-Yagi train station (two lines cross here), where the tourist office, buses, restaurants and supermarkets can be found, making it also a reasonable walking distance from Imai-cho, Fujiwara-kyo and Miminashi-yama. Unfortunately, while the hotel did the job and is reasonably priced, I think its style doesn't suit me. I'm likely to consider other hotels first if I return to the area.
Cons: The hotel feels old-fashioned, but not in a charming way, more in a "could do with a renovation" way. There's limescale in the urinals, some gunge on the ceiling appliances, a circular-dial telephone on the desk... That last detail could be charming if it was a quirky-looking one or if the room was decorated accordingly, but that's not the case. The place just feels like it hasn't had many upgrades over the years.
Pros: Walking distance to the train station in a quiet neighbourhood.
Cons: The room was a little dim and the door hinge was very noisy.
Pros: Location is nice. People are friendly even we dont speak Japanese. Breakfast is delicious!

Cons: The hotel location is terrible. If you arrive at night it looks like a nightmare. The rooms look dirty and old. Also, the rooms smells strongly like cigarette (awful). The bathroom parts were cracked and the floor was sticky. The experience was horrible. I do not recommend this hotel for any person. You better find a better place. The only normal thing was the breakfast.
