Enjoyed our stay at the hotel but further away from where we expected to stay. Bus service just outside hotel was very good though
Balcony not cleaned to expected standard. Security system based on magnetic card creates problems when two people share room (one card only provided)
NICE QUIET PLACE TO STAY. CLOSE TO AMSTERDAM
Good family friendly facilities,e.g. playstations and pool Under the bed had not been cleaned for a very long time - it was grey with dust which was not impressive. Also the 'floor' of the pool was filthy and had obviously not been cleaned for a while. We had been told breakfast would be included with our package but when we doublechecked we were told definitely not, The reception staff were not overly friendly.
Good price / quality / family hotel. Certainly not for a romantic weekend / night. Very noicy with lot of elder people. Food was ok.
tour the breakfast is to expensive
The hotel is excellent. Very clean, close to Amsterdam ( ~15 min of driving) and to the turistic sites. Excellent services , comfort and staff. Very good value for money
Good value and very tidy Noise from some of the residents on balconies until early hours of the morning. However, only on one of the five days we stayed.
The food was very good both for breakfast and dinner Location-near to Volendam, Edam, Marken
convenience of public transport no tea/coffee making facilities in room
Our room was on ground floor and had a sliding door to a large grassed area where the children could run around in some nice sunshine. Free parking. Quite a long walk from room to hotel reception.
I liked the proximity to the Zaanstreek, A''dam, Enkhuizen, Hoorn, Northsea etc.
This hotel is great value for money. The rooms are big and the bathrooms are also adequate. The staff are helpful. The location is great away from the noisy nightlife and still not too far if this is where you which to head for when in possession of a car. Great for golfers ( which I am not ). lots of green surroundings. The breakfast was also great value for money €14.50. Overall I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again but with a car. This hotel is excellent when in possession of a car. I was unfortunately without one on my 2nd stay. The weather was bad, windy, rainy and cold. So needed to use the taxi service offered by my family who live in Purmered. There is apparently a bus stop about 5 minutes walk away from the hotel. I have not been able to locate it. It is also pitch black and deserted for a lone person to make use of this late at night. This due to the lack of street lighting. When in a group of friends it should be manageable. In my room one of the lights was not working. I am sure when called for an engineer it would have been fixed. I was only there for one night.
The location near a public transport, nice room. Located near Edam and Volendam.
Nice location Very slow and lazy staff at the evening restaurant, waited 30 min. to be served and another 25 min. for the food.
The hotel staff was friendly. The air conditioning and also the heating are very noisy. I hardly could sleep.
good environment, large room, kind staffs. bed too soft, mat too humide. My friend has to keep in sit position while he was sleeping. A long way to go from reception to the rooms.
great room. goodclub house with good choice of beer including superb ones from Belgium. bar prices the same as a pub in four star suurroundings - very unlike the uk. Very nice English speaking staff. Fantasic low rate for a hotel of this standard at 95 euros for two room without breakfast.
high value for money nothing
Relax ambient Rooms not too clean and with big mosquitos in September. At the reception desk they charged the room in my credit card twice.
It was a fantastic setting right in the middle of the pretty harbour. It was a very comfortable hotel and the staff were excellent. We stayed as part of a 2 week holiday in five countries and the service here was by far the best.
It was all good. Would have liked tea-making facilities in the room, and would have liked to be able to go to breakfast later than 9.30am
The location is good, nice terras nice for the daytime, very good restaurant, good sevice. No music, closing time very early [ around 10,30 P.m ], boring evenings in Volendam during my stay, bot maybe this was the low season.
Having breakfast in the open air overlooking the harbour. Volendam is lovely and the hotel has a great location. The lift broke down almost stranding my colleague between floors. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room would have been welcome.
Beautiful sea view, big room , 7 min from bus stop Noisy at night time because of restaurant, small covers on the bed,
The room is big enough. The lift wasn't working, hence have to use the stairs especially a bit troublesome with small children and heavy luggage. Also we stayed at the first floor near the stairs, hence, it was very very noisy at night. We could hear people walking up and down and also restaurant staff clearing the tables and chairs. It was too noisy that we had troubles sleeping comfortably.
Once we found the hotel, it was in a very convenient location, close to shopping, many restaurants, and city sightseeing/culture. Our room was spacious, bright, and clean. It felt good to be there. There was a leak in the bathroom ceiling which we told the receptionist about.
Beautiful location .....friendly staff,,,,good food. Poor quality of bathroom fittings..... wash hand basin had 3 large cracks which were filled over.
breakfast no comments
The restaurant is great, also the staff is very nice we will come back soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exellent atmosphere. Staffs are very friendly and kind.
Quiet location, freindly staff, great restaurant
the location and the terrace we had in our room!!!
Friendy staff, nice athmosphere The room could do with a door for the lavatory
It was a very nice hotel for the special rate I received. No, this is probably the nicest hotel or equals the nicest hotel that I have stayed inn while visiting Holland on many occasions.
The hotel is small and beautifully decorated. The rooms are too small, specially considering that we booked a luxury room. There isn¨t lift and the stairs are too narrow. The price of the rooms doesn¨t match the quality of service or the premises. I think they charge too much for what they offer. They didn¨t have receptionists and the cleaning service was poor.
Everything was excellent, the room, the helpful staff, the meals. The quality of the food was among the best we have seen anywhere. Our complements to the owners for a job well done.
The calm original old village, the harbour and canals, the bells from the church, the very extrordinary room, the staffs surprises and a very good "value for money" restaurant. Excellent stay.
A delightful hotel in a perfect location. Lots of attention to detail. The garden area right next to the canal was allocated to hotel guests which was pleasant. Considering the hotel was in the centre of Edam ,parking was not a problem and was free and close by.The room was very comfortable and service excellent. Good breakfast with plenty of choice and well presented. The restaurant was pricey( but on a par with others in the area.).There was nothing else to dislike.
Very nice village Room very small
The location i9s near the town center but parking is a problem. Parking may be some distance aray from the hotel. The hotel rooms did not seem to have adequate insulation so that noise from the room next was easily transmitted to the next room.
I really like the restaurant and the garden, dinner was good too my room is just next to the public male's washroom and mine is a single room in the lowest rate!!
Everything about our stay was excellent. Accomodation, friendliness, meals. We will certainly be returning at a future date.
Lovely location along the canal, beautiful landscaping, comfortable bed, nice ambiance in restaurant, short walk to local shops along cobblestone streets. Old world charm. Second story rooms have narrow stairs that might be difficult for seniors / handicap / large luggage.
Very comfortable, clean, and quiet. A little difficult to find location.
It was incredibly charming
the beautiful setting and ambiance, very relaxing, extremely friendly staff no
Our room was very clean and quiet, and the location of the hotel is excellent.
Central location, staff was very helpful. We were not aware that no one would be at the reception when we arrived. The street was not on our GPS and we called the agency that did the booking and they did not give us accurate directions. I feel this is important because the directions they gave us led us to the next town.
spacious rooms, modern, light, airy, nice design 1 Terrible queues constantly for reception - why ever dont you have more staff on? Morning and evening was the same. 2. if a double bed is booked please make the twin beds up as one double by using one large sheet. We asked but this was apparently not possible, although we had booked double beds and not twins. 3. Get fresh air into the landings!! 4. If you really cannot fix a hairdryer into the room then leave a notice saying how one may be acquired. 5. Have some pegs or rails or a chair in the bathroom for used towels, sponge bags etc. 6.In the interests of the environment ask guests to hang up towels that they would like to keep for another day ie dont automatically change them every day - it isnt necessary and harms the world.
Spacious room with nice view over the Gouwzee. Very new and hence very good state of maintenance. Terrific location. Very good value for money due to low price. Nice staff (when present). Management should realise that running a hotel is something else than running cottages. E.g. for a hotel it is really not acceptable that the reception closes after all expected guests have arrived (reception desk in a hotel has additional tasks over only welcoming new guests), and daily cleaning of rooms should be normal (instead of only on request).
Liked spaciousness, nice bathroom with a bath which my wife prefers to a shower. Poor ventilation unless large doors were left open, making the room stuffy overnight. Lack of keys to lock both patio doors and the inter leading door between adjoining rooms. Luckily the people in the adjoining rooms were friends that we could trust.
We liked the location and the decor of the hotel We were not aware that the hotel desk closed at 8 p.m. and arrived at 8:15. We had a hard time figuring out that we were to use a call box and give our reservation number and then someone would come unlock the door and get us checked in. We waited outside for 20 minutes. They were very nice though once we finally got in.
The location. If the weather was poor no cafe or bar facilities within the hotel therefore would have to go out of the building.
hotel is new, clean and cheap a bit longer from the city, bedroom no dark
Location was good near Edam and Volendam. Breakfast was poor.
Big room, tidy, good location. Hotel reception closed 7pm and 11pm everyother day. No info about this on the website. No extra blankets. No hangers for the towels in bathroom. No fridge in the room.
You can rent bikes at the hotel; the room was big; there's a nice swimming pool. The reception closes at 8 p.m. and you have to give bikes back before that time. beds are not very confortables.
the owners, the staff,the food,the dog,the location.
I liked the stay, atmosphere and staff attitude. location is ok, parking instructions should be better
It is a very nice hotel with a family atmosphere. Quiet environment in amazing place: historical village with wooden houses and small harbour for yachts. Very friendly people.
friendly and beautiful
Very elegant, very good food (dinner and breakfast).
wonderful setting. Very friendly staff.
Marken itself is a lovely site. The dinner at the hotel was superb.
It was situated in a charming fishing village and the building had lots of Dutch "character" and every effort was made by the staff to make us feel comfortable and welcome. It was quite warm while we were there so we had to open all the windows, which did not have screens on them. The hotel could use air conditioning units in the rooms or screens on the windows to keep bugs out.
Unique little hotel hotel on the beautiful island of Marken, outstanding restaurant; the owner went to the market the same day we arrived and came back with delicious lemon soles. Everything is always this fresh, so the menu changes everyday. The room categories are a bit confusing. We booked a "Luxury Double Room with lakeview" and got a (very pretty) room with a balcony; it wasn't facing the port-side though. Our room was defintely the "Luxury Double Room with balcony" and not the one we booked. It didn't really matter, because it was still nice.
Nice rooms, beautiful location on small island with traditional Dutch buildings and a lighthouse. Hotel restaurant bit expensive and given small town, only few other dining options.
Super friendly and competent personel who are obviously enjoying their work; very tasteful interior, not only the brasserie and the restaurant, but also the rooms (each room is dedicated to a different historical figure, such as Rembrandt, Mozart, Molière, and decorated accordingly); superb food, lovely breakfast; open-air parking 2 mins walk from hotel
convenient location; good atmosphere could not control bedroom aircon properly
The hotel facilities are beautiful and the location is excellent.
This old hotel is luxuriously appointed with as much "Old World" charm as one might expect in The Netherlands. It was a pleasure to stay there. In spite of minor shortcomings I would strongly recommend this hotel for a romantic and beautifully located European interlude. No stairs up to the rooms which meant a very steep climb up a long stairway. Not for the old, weak or faint of heart. a malfunctioning fire alarm system awakened the guests at 2am and brought the fire department. We were told this has been happening recently. They ought to fix it now.
staff friendliness, good food, very relaxing to sit and enjoy a refreshment or a bite to eat
The staff were friendly and helpful. The accommodation was excellent. we stayed in the madame Butterfly room which we enjoyed. There was no view, but the room was so luxurious it didn't matter. Centrally located in Edam. The Breakfast was delicious and the surroundings excellent
Watched England play on BBC tv. Good food in restruant at reasonable prices. Everything was fine
Friendly staff, informal atmosphere, good food Nothing. We were very pleased with our stay at the Dam Hotel.
Nice romantic rooms, helpful staff and good food.
Tiny room but very nicely furnished. Good restaurant. Friendly service Noisy corridors and squeaky doors. A few oil drops on the door hinges would do a great service to guests. Amazing that management doesn't notice this.
Quiet, friendly, nice place for relaxe, for couples,
The food was excelent as usual, My complements to your chef, Room was Noisy, dirty, your mantanace of room 23 as your receptionist agreed was appalling
Nice personnel; close to downtown; good breakfast; excellent room rate.
Pleasant hotel convenient for Purmerend and Amsterdam. Staff very helpful Two beds pushed together are not a double bed!! Sleeping was unconfortable because there were two single mattresses not a proper double one. The booking is misleading on this.
Wonderfully comfortable room and quite location.
quite area, nice staff, good parking place, easy to travel to most interesting places in Holland
Friendly an adequate. Our two rooms were too far away from each other, so we needed our handies.
Great parking, good breakfast, comfortable room and great bathroom and shower. Easy access to town by foot. Te and coffee should be standard in all rooms as in the UK
Nothing, i will never go again there. The room was not cleaned for at least a month, dust everywhere, pillows had a very strong body/ old sweat smell. We asked to chance them, what they did. Bathroom was very, very small. Impossible to brush your teeth, because of very small sink, less than 30 cm. No heating troughout the room and bathroom. Beds are very used e.g. springs where broken. I had the idea that this was an spare room, altough we booked 4 weeks in advance. Maybe its only the room we had, number 29 but we will never go again there. This hotel is part of a chain, but we never had such a bad room before in other hotels of the same chain. This is below there standards.
The hotel is near the center of Purmerend, but in a very quiet corner surrounded by a canal with geese and trees. It has a wide parking area that is free and rents very good bicycles at low price. The room was wide and comfortable. Breakfast and internet connexion are expensive. Most rooms are in the first floor and the hotel has not elevator.
Lovely area pleasant staff. Basic but an adequate base for the night.
View from room; local environment, hotel manager lack of direct transportation to/from hotel from Amsterdam; Noisy party on Saturday night until 1 AM
The cosiness of my room and Kees the owner.
The place was nice and quiet. Staff very nice. We were cycling and the hotel was situated in a very central spot for our wishes. no
Extremely friendly staff that make for a very relaxing stay. In England, we are use to tea making facilities in the bedroom.
Attentive, helpful and friendly staff. Excellent food. Comfortable, clean room. Good location for touring polders.
small hotel, easy to park, not crowded they don´t accept credit card
Perhaps little cheaper...proximity to Bruge and GENT Unbelivable dusty.. Very very small.. Horrible Breakfast and Unfriendly Service...
the location and the atmosphere
Lack of lounge & bar facilities, very steep stairs, no international credit card acceptance.
good view of harbour no smoking rooms, kept on getting hassled to get out the room before 11.00 check out time
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. They have made changes in the rooms that I suggested after last year, that gave us more space. The rooms got very warm but i think a fan in the rooms would help
Breakfast very good. Hotel staff very helpful No
Having been disappointed by our accomodation in Amsterdam. We have found our happiness staying in this hotel in Volendam. The location is superb, view is amazing, breakfast is generous and room is spacious and clean! Suitable for family with children. When checked out, there is no room to leave luggages at the hotel. You have to find an alternative which is not a problem as the Dutch are very friendly and helpful.
We selected the hotel for the site and the view. We had no view at all.
Watching the birds & boats over breakfast, and also from the room at various times. The small number of rooms is also an attraction - you don't get block booked by coach parties! The staircase is far too steep and the treads far too narrow (I can see there is a problem.) I did not come by car, and I do know where I could park, but I see this as a drawback for many motorists/guests
Breakfast. Friendly service. Had to ask for the heating to be turned on but was still not adequate. Was a cold and damp weekend. Beds were like hospital beds although comfortable enough to sleep in. No bedlight on one side. Just very basic.
beautiful veiw over the harbour, lovely room. Nice bar downstairs. nice town. Being british tea making facilities in the room would be nice!
Room and breakfast are clean, simple and fine, just as I wanted. Good value for money. The bar in the hotel in the evening was a bit noisy, however that didn't bother us.
breakfast could have been better, something hot would have been nice. had an evening meal at the hotel which was excellent and reasonably priced .the rather noisy at night .hotel had no facilities for keeping my luggage after i checked out until my flight .
Nice room; picturesque neighbourhood, great jam session organized by the owner in hotel's cafe no
Pleasant Would like breakfast earlier
Very reasonable price. The room has a small kitchenette. There is a bar downstairs where concerts take place until very late.
Frriendly staff, comfortable room.
A wonderful stay, the staff were great and Sunday night in the bar was amazing, with a live jamming session.
Great location on a canal walking distance from the middle of beautiful Edam - secure place to park bikes.
The sorroundings of the hotel are very nice Under the room there was a bar with live music and for two days was very difficult to sleep
This is the only place to stay when visiting Noord-Holland. The freedom of a kitchenette and easy access make this pension our favourite.
The owners of the B&B are very friendly and even advised me which places I should visit in the area. Very clean and spacious B&B. It is located in a quiet residential area where you can get away from all the noise. The only thing that I feel inconvenient is the lack of credit card facilities. They only accept cash at the moment.
We enjoyed the excellent service and lovely breakfast, room was clean and comfortable, surroundings were beautiful and very quiet, so we could sleep very well. Very close to major cities, like Amsterdam and Alkmaar, and with good public transport.
Friendly welcome. Pleasant room with room to sit down comfortably as well as sleep. Nice countryside location and pleasant views. Breakfast was a bit rushed and we felt under a bit of pressure to finish and clear out of our room.
We were very impressed by everything and especially the fantastic breakfast. We have nothing bad to say about the b&b place.
While staying in B&B we feel ourself comfortable. Owners are pleasanr guys ready to help you. Everything is clean and breakfast is quite good. Kitchen is well equiped Entrance door was closed after midnight, but we solved this :)
Very good price/quality. Very quiet place. And despite some comments on the web, there is now a bathroom for the 2nd floor! So I definitely recommend this place.
Beautiful countryside, Friendly owner and good breakfast. One of the only places with parking available in the area. Family room on top floor with very narrow stairs and no toilet on top floor.
