The food was fantastic
Beautiful and quite just outside oxford with a bus stop almost every 30 minutes going into town.
Freidnly staff, excellent food, very nice clean modern room My only minor gripe if there where no walk in shower or shower screen on freestanding bath. The one benefit was I had a really nice soak in the large bath.
Big clean rooms, large bathrooms with a wet room shower. Great food and a nice atmosphere.
Friendliness. Convenience to City Centre. Quiet. Long circuit up hill and down dale to executive room on first floor - miles from lift and still requiring negotiating stairs. Brilliant black-out curtains spoiled by light streaming under the door from the corridor.
The friendliness & helpfulness of the staff. The excellent breakfast. The well-equipped bathroom. The proximity to the Ashmolean I should have preferred a duvet rather than blankets on my bed. I found the blankets too hot and constricting
Good enjoyable stay
Excellent central location.Spacious and well furnished room. Unable to sleep due to traffic noise.
Convenience, quality of service Smoking in main bar area.
Location, 'character', most staff (but not all) Very high parking fee, long walk to room, noise of large fan/generator, modest bedroom and facilities, unpleasant view, bizarre naked footprints on flat roof outside window, smell of sewage ('exceptional' problem), credit card surcharge (incredible!). Very poor value. Also adding 'MacDonald' to the name rather detracts from the image, I'm afraid. Next time: The Old Bank
Lovely hotel and rooms. Particularly impressed by the turn down service. No
room was clean and bathroom large. there was a cost of 4pounds per 20 minutes for the internet. should be complimentary. as well, they charged me for newspaper - 1pound, to use my visa to pay bill 2.50pounds and a "carer distribution fee of 1pound. this was unacceptable!
excellent location in central Oxford, minutes away from historic colleges, the central market, and the bus station. Rooms were small, extremely overheated and poorly ventilated. Old carpeting triggered allergies. Breakfast not included in the room price and very expensive ($30 for a continental buffet).
The location of the Hotel in the centre of Oxford We stayed in the Hotel before and liked it very much. On this occasion we found it somewhat disappointing. Many small things caused us some frustration.
Clean bedsheets and towels Very small rooms for the price; You can't reach the reception directly; you basically have to go through hoops and being on hold before someone picks up; the staff are not quick in responding to issues or concerns. Wifi was really quite poor--it bounced off every five minutes.
It is in an excellent location for visiting my daughter who is studying at Worcestor college. We were in a room with heavy scaffolding blocking the entire two windows. Men were talking, yelling & working/pounding in front of the two windows every morning. They totally ignored us who needed sleeping in the room. There were no privacy nor courtesy. We were not informed or asked if it's Ok for the reception to assign such a downgraded room (the windows were blocked by scaffolding entirely)to us at check in either. The service and facilities were at most a one star hotel this time. I stayed in this hotel for about 5 times in the last two years because we were visiting our daughter who was studying at Worcestor college(one block away). They've been always about a three stars hotel standard. But this time was the worst. We will not use this hotel any more. It's totally not worth the price & the poor facility.
Staff were good and the hotel facilities were aslo good
Great Staff! Great workout room and Sauna!
It takes 15 min. from city centre to the hotel. But it's clean, confortable and good sevice
Room was clean, warm and quiet. Parts of the room were tired, paint chipped etc
The choice in the restaurant was very poor.
Leaving the hotel during the day Poor service, poor food and sub standard room
the place was clean Jurys Inn had no charm. It was a modern space, dorm room style maze. A lot of eastern European workers with no charm. The red head curly haired euro woman need to learn to smile. I hated my stay here. No food at night. Cold AC. Wankers!
breakfast, nothing special but both cooked and continental meals Internet was supposed to work and free of charge in the public area of the hotel, whilst it was a pay per hour in the room. Internet in the public area didn't work. We had to repeat a wait-and-trial for over half an hour in the lobby area. Others had the same problem. The front desk staff would not give half an hour free access to internet in the room in lieu of the inconvenience caused, whilst we were in urgency in sending messages to overseas counterparts who were waiting to hear from us at their end. Bathtub drains didn't function properly. TV reception was poor.
Even though we had asked for a twin room on booking and had called before checking we were told there no twins available, but the reception staff offered us two rooms for the same rate as a double which was extremly generous!
It's location to the NEC is perfect My late request but unable to book an extra night
The food was generally very good - the service was quick - we liked the call bells on the outside tables The premium room was disappointing .. very small. We've stayed in many better quality bigger rooms in othe hotel chains for the same or less price. Also the views from the hotel when in the restaurant were very poor - roofs / aerials / ventilation ducts etc.could be improved with plants etc.
I liked that the size of the room was good and that we had a good dinner for a gour star hotel The staff seemed a little overwhelmed at breakfast
Well situated.Intriguing building with a good ambiance.Has the potential to be excellent. Seemed under staffed at reception and so no warm feeling of care ,especially noticeable as this was the only customer engagement point.
Very comfortable and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.
Nice hotel, interesting features and full of character. Unfriendly staff. Shower broken, both of us had to have cold shower in the morning, not so nice! Duvet cover ripped all across. When this was pointed out to the male receptionist on check out we were told that this is not generally the case in the c block!! No mention of sorry!! Made to feel like a liar!
Responsive staff- about the best I have encountered. Taxi booked by hotel was 25 minutes late despite several calls by staff to chase
Location Uncomfortable beds, hairdryers not working and extremely limited sundry items, tea bags etc..
The quirky nature of the former prison - cleverly converted The lighting in the rooms was too dim to read
Althiugh it was a busy weekend, the staff, were pateient courteoud and helpful.
The hotel is very stylish and has a unique atmosphere. It's very close to the city center and the train station which is very convenient. The restaurant has superb food and is reasonably priced. The shower was quite challenging. No matter how hard I tried, the water I got was lukewarm at best.
Central location, unique design, extremely handy for the Oxford Colleges which was why we booked it. Particularly liked the fact that you are immediately into the centre of the city as you leave the hotel Finding the hotel is difficult - the SatNav takes you to the back of the hotel( which is hopeless) and Oxford is very difficult for car drivers. Either do park and ride or leave yourself plenty of time and print a map.
the hotel building is beautifully restored and kept, the room and service were of high standard the hotel is dark everything is painted black there are very few lights and most places such as the brasserie and the main lobby are dim , everybody dresses in black at the reception desk and at the restaurant, black bed cover and black bed cushions black desk closet night tables, grey bathroom, black wall to wall carpet with tiny strips of red that reminded me of blood
Excellent location, great design hotel There was an issue with my bill at checkout. Reception quite rude
Convenient location with the huge advantage of car parking. The hotel was clean and comfortable.
Sports Club facilities were excellent, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Restaurant was very busy as there was a coach party also staying
We ate in the dining room each evening as the town was a 25 minute walk away. The service was very good and choice of menu reasonable. The hotel was a warren of rooms and clinical in design lacking in any character. Our allocated room was very small with only a double bed and as one set of towels was delivered each day ,we wondered if we had been allocated a single room as it was a busy weekend. We received a refund of one night after complaining.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Excellent food in restaurant. Excellent facilities. Good location
It was my 2nd stay in Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel through Booking.com and it was very pleasant and the staff are very professional
easy reach of city centre, hotel layout very good, friendly staff, food very good.
I liked the fact that the staff was friendly especially in Deacons Bar. The front desk staff were also helpful with transportation and a room change. I appreciated that they were willing to make the change so easily. Although it was a lovely hotel with beautiful grounds, I feel their housekeeping proceedures really brought them down. The room I stayed in had brown grime on the shower walls and had obvioulsy not been cleaned in a while. Also, the pillows were extremely flat and made for an uncomfortable night sleep. The sheets were also not changed in the 4 nights we stayed there. We knew this because they were put on without care so everytime you pulled back the covers your sheets came undone especially on my husbands side of the bed where there was not enough material to tuck them back under the mattress. More attention to this would have helped the stay!
Large clean rooms Fast wifi Bt bland and corporate. Not quite as close to the centre as we would have liked.
An all round excellent hotel. We particularly liked the rural location, which was only a few minutes walk from the city centre.
very comfortable, easy reach of oxford, lovely views and surroundings. little vague if we had breakfast included in price
Very attentive, efficient and helpful service. The location is excellent and it is comfortable and quiet. Breakfast had a wide variety of options. The choice on the dinner menu was rather restricted for a 4-star hotel, although service was excellent. Also, would expect better pillows than lumpy synthetic ones!
Friendly staff, close to Oxford city centre
Quick service.easy access from motorway
Having stayed in a great number of hotels this year, the Holiday inn at Oxford was by far the noisiest. We could hear every word the guests next door were saying, as well as toilets flushing etc.
Service was excellent, as was the food, which is always a big bonus, particularly the breakfast. Bar prices were expensive
We were very pleased with the sevice given to us throughout our stay at the Oxford Holiday Inn. The staff were fantastic! We have suffered quite badly in the past staying at hotels due to being a same sex couple and it was lovely to not experience that this weekend. We would definatley book with you again in the future without any reservations - thank you!!!
Hotel was very nice, staff very helpful and friendly. We used the dining room for Dinner and the quality of the food was not good at all. Three of us had different meals and none of us liked them, especially in view of the high cost. We also had breakfast which was very good, all food warm and tasty.
Bar food was poor
Beautiful Hotel. Great facilities and Fantastic Breakfast!!! Being woken up by Housekeeping knocking on the room door at 9am
breakfast was excellent, good selection and plenty of it bar prices are high, both for snacks and drinks
Location The bedroom was very cold and there appeared to be no heating. When we asked they sent up an oil filled radiator.
All things are very good. There is very quiet the bar is very nice to take a rest. When you feel tiere, the location of this hotel is a little bit far from the city center. But there is a very good transport of buses. It would be nice, if the staff tell custumers which numbers of buses you can take.
the car park and the fact that the room was fairly quiet. the bathroom was very small and the extractor fan was extremely noisy.
Very comfortable room with good facilities
Location and nearness to labs and centre Room 64 washbasin waste lever needs attention
I enjoyed the comfortable room, though rather small for a double. The location is very good, just 10 mins into town on foot and several restaurants/pubs within 100 yards. The staff were friendly and reasonably helpful. The breakfast buffet was not too extensive. The cooked "full English" was unimaginative, the service slow, and unattentive, the food sometimes warm rather than hot...
good atmosphere, helpful staff, good situation, quiet rooms, convenient parking andd straightforward billing arrangements. dim economy bulbs and cheap plastic glasses in the bathroom.
Breakfast too expensive
Quiet room on the top floor of the hotel. Lovely comfortable bed. Nice bathroom. Friendly helpful staff. There was nothing we were unhappy with.
very convenient location, pleasant surroundings, good breakfast no
Its closeness to the centre of the city, its old world charm, and particularly the reception staff who were extremely helpful
The staff are very helpful and pleasant and the hotel is on the main Banbury Road near a bus stop so is only about 10-15 minutes from the city centre. We were unlucky enough to have three very noisy guests staying in the hotel on the same night as we were. They "partyed" from 1am till 5am, obviously very drunk and out of control. Despite the hotel saying it had someone on duty 24 hours a day, when I rang reception there was no reply and the noise carried on unabatted. It was very difficult to work out quite where it was coming from as it's an old complicated building. The manager was very apologetic in the morning but I wonder if the "guests" were ever nobbled!
Staff were ecxellent and because of that the ambience was very good. Too often bad management sets up a caustic atmosphere, the ticking of boxes. A bit like your website, so how happy are your staff.
The breakfast was a good standard. The room was extremely cramped.
Small room - great for single person but bit squashed if for 2. Well equipped, well decorated. Lovely bathroom. Free parking. Delicious croissants from local patisserie. Orange juice at breakfast was very watery and didn't taste of orange. Would like a larger bath towel.
The staff were really welcoming and friendly - I couldn't have hoped for a better welcome. The breakfast area is lovely and the breakfast buffet offers good choice with really friendly staff. nothing, that I didn't like about this hotel.
Vast selection of choices for breakfast. Didn't like the burnt logs & ashes etc in the grate in the bedroom.
The decor was contemporary and of a very good standard. My room was very large, with a large bathroom as well. Very comfortable. Did not have an iron and ironing board in the room. I had to iron shirts in a reception room!
Nice room and staff. Breakfast cut off time was too early on Saturday morning as was check out time. After a Friday night out would be nicer to end breakfast at 10 We missed it unfortunately. Room was very hot all night had to open window
Friendly helpful staff at reception, good leisure facilites, great location
Staff excellent, interior reception and lounge area very inviting.Grounds very well kept. Disappointed with bedroom, connoisseur ,for the price, also breakfast rather greasy.
courteous attentive staff good food lovely setting comfortable rooms.
A very attractive modernisation of a series of old buildings at the core extending to modern wings containing bedrooms with the expected amenities. A rural, riverside setting within 3 miles of the city centre
The pool, the grounds, the size of the room We had to complain about the bins in the room being full of rubbish and four dirty towels left in the room.
The location, with the Thames at the bottom of the garden, is tranquil. The room was spacious and comfortable. The entrance hall/lobby was welcoming with an open fireplace. The breakfast was good and there was plenty of variety, although the juices were not fresh. The pool was small but nice. The bathroom was small. The food at the restaurant was bland (seafood linguine, mashed potato, salmon fishcakes were all tasteless). With many conferences taking place the hotel is noisy in the morning with doors banging. The staff on reception and in the restaurant were not particulary welcoming, nor helpful. The same annoying music was played on loop for the duration of our visit. For £150 per night we would expect much more and were very disappointed overall. There was no personal touch that you would expect in a hotel of this class. Needless to say we will to stay there again.
Beautiful location and surroundings. Lovely room. Short staffed and poor service in restaurant/bar, especially for breakfast, whcih was not great quality.
The hotel was very impressive and in a lovely location by the river. The staff were friendly and the room was nice and clean. The service for food at the bar was very slow and we had to chase them after half an hour. Not very good considering the price.
nice staff good meals
our room,was excellant,and what a stunning view.
good value for money, clean, easy for park & ride ( into Oxford). our room 228 was just above function room so rather noisy - but at least it wasn't very late! Service in the restaurant was rather slow.
A quiet night sleep Too warm/hot, heating on constantly. TV not working corectly.
The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly and did whatever they could to make our stay incredible. The location was perfectly convenient located just outside of downtown Oxford. The facilities were newly renovated and very comfortable. Nothing that comes to mind.
Came to do Xmas shopping. Hotel has parking facilities & is within easy reach of Oxford town centre by bus. Bus stop near Hotel.
very comfortable surroundings. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Very quiet hotel; very nice personnel. There is a very large breakfast, with many choices and an a good quality. Wi-fi is free in the rooms.
The food and good service in the restaurant. The room in Elm House, up a hill, behind the Hawkewell House.
The staff were very helpful. The room was nice and i loved the bed. The signs for the toilets need to be changed, they are confusing. Guests need to be informed that if they want eggs for breakfast they need to order them, i didn't know untill it was to late.
Quiet yet easy access to Oxford city centre Dinner in restuarant for dinner was poor value
The cleanliness of the hoel Lack of heating to the hotel, it was very cold
Room was very nice
The breakfast and service.
Excellent kitchen for all meals. Wonderful included breakfast Room quite cozy. Lighting very poor for reading. No wash cloths, few towels. Hair blower attached behind desk. Temperature very difficult to adjust.
The location was great, the staff were excellent, and the hotel itself: clean, stylish and cosy Navigating the High Street was a little complicated by car due to complex one way system
convenient location the bed was too soft
We particularly liked the room (105) - spacious and comfortable. The view is wonderful and the location very convenient.
Central location Heating in room 201 was poor we did not have any on the Sunday morning and no hot water. This was the coldest night of the year so far 27/28th November 2010. I did mention. Rather off putting!
Seems a bit sad,but we really liked the bathroom! It was a proper room, not just a partitioned off corner of the bedroom.Nice floor as well! Breakfast was rather chaotic.
The reception staff were excellent-very friendly and helpful-and it was good to have parking in the City. There was quite a lot of noise at night-from disco music + ?generator or other appliance.
The location of the hotel was ideal for getting to the office and shopping. Which was the purpose of the trip/stay No hairdryers in the room
central location and car park facility
Beautiful setting, lovely surroundings, good food and friendly staff. Accommodation clean and comfortable.
Its position in the town; furnishings of a high standard, staff very well presented. Although many foreign staff all spoke English of a very high standard. I think the costs of breakfast there is excessive, really. The bar area could do with freshening up a bit.
Our room number 6 was fantastic, extremely cosy and value for money.
the bedroom there was a big coach party in the breakfast room we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated and the noise was dreadful with people standing close to our table carrying on conversations. not relaxing at all. this hotel is over-trading on its facilities.
I booked the Blenheim package, when I arrived and was shown to the room, was suprised to be given the Marlborough Suite, which was awseome. With a seperate lounge, two plasma screen t.v.,s and a wonderful four poster bed. What a lovely suprise. We used the dining room in the evening, and had a deliscious 3 course meal with wine. What a lovely treat, can,t wait to return, especially as at Blenheim they turned our tickets into annual passes free of charge, so will definatelly be visiting again.
The fact that we were within walking distance to Blenheim Palace. Apart from that we used the Hotel as a stopping off place on our journey south and nothing else. We dined out at another restaurant in Woodstock because we did not fancy the menu at the Bear.
The location is excellent. Right on the main street in the delightful village of Woodstock. There are a lot of super eating places around every corner. We did have lunch on the first day of our stay. Lets just stay that it did not inspire us to book dinner for either evening. Try to make sure that byou do not have anyone sleeping in a room above you - the creaking will keep you awake.
Fine old building with lots of charachter. Staff helpful and friendly Very pricy for the room we had which was basic and we could hear clearly all of the activity in the next room. Prices of the mini bar are outrageous-also a dinner of modest proportions came to over £90 for two.
Visit Palace food and drink cost
Location nr Blenheim Palace and central of Woodstock; Staff were excellent in dealing with a booking error; room was newly furnished; food was great We booked a four poster bed room; which wasn't available- we'd been allocated a standard room - error in their processing- staff quickly rectified by finding us an exec suite and adding breakfast and £20 off bill; bathroom was very cold - mentioned that at checkout; chimney fire at 5.25am meant that we have to vacate our room in -5 degC temps
lovely welcome from staff. Clean room though decor rather dated and grubby. Breakfast pleasant with helpful staff. Dated decor and grubby in need of redecoration (though was clean). Curtains off a few hooks so wouldn't shut properly. tiny supplies of shampoo etc - not what I'd expect from a 4 star establishment. bed so uncomfortable neither of us slept either night.
Wireless environment, cleanness. I stayed in 2nd floor and it is a bit hard to bring up my luggage.
The location meant you were able to walk into central Oxford (15-20 mins) and leave the car in the hotel car park meaning you didn't have to worry about transport or parking fees. Not major faults whatsoever. Poor Wi Fi reception in some hotel areas. Becomes annoying when access is intermittent.
The day manager was friendly and helpful, and allowed me to leave the car in the carpark whilst I went into the centre - an essential amenity in Oxford. The breakfast was hot and freshly prepared, and served just before closing time of 9 am without any fuss. The level of cleanliness is very good, and the lounge space pleasant. The room was a bit poky, with a small shower cubicle only in the bathroom. There was some intrusion of road noise.
We had a lovely stay here over the Easter weekend. The room was clean, spacious and homely. The staff were very friendly and professional. It is not far from Oxford City Centre, literally a 5-10 bus ride. Good parking facilities and we enjoyed a good old fry up for breakfast which was included in the booking. We will definitely stay there again and highly recommend. :)
The room (32) was better than others we had been in before. The lady at breakfast was very helpful as I was dashing to London on an early train & my husband dropped me at the station & came back for a full breakfast. Despite above, I thought breakfast could have started at 7am & then my husband and I woud have eaten together.
Very clean Very small double bed, so uncomfortable to sleep in - and the whole point was to sleep!
After reading other reviews I was expecting just a B&B but was pleasantly surprised when I could at least order a night-cap and one that was very reasonably priced! Thank you.
Nice room, quiet, very comfortable
A really lovely hotel and good value for money. Clean and comfortable and wonderful breakfast - I was very impressed with the vegetarian option (we are often forgotten...) Plenty of parking space and handy for getting into Central Oxford. I can't think of any bad points.
We liked the attractive dining room. Comfortable bed and new bath, toilet etc. We left our car in their car park and caught the bus to Oxford City. Only had to wait 5 minutes, brilliant.
Clean and comfortable Breakfast service a bit chaotic
Beautiful room, helpful staff and excellent breakfast
modern, good facilities, good food, good location bit pricey
This large guest house had contemporary fittings and was tastefully decorated with a super king size bed in the superior room. The breakfast was included in the price and was excellent, all freshly prepared, good quality ingredients. There was plenty of parking within the guest house grounds. The location was about 2-3 miles outside of Oxford though this was the main route for buses which run frequently from outside the hotel. Remember this is a guest house and does not have the same facilities as you might expect with a larger hotel.
Breakfast was fresh, high quality and had a lot of choice We didn't have a bath which was tricky with a baby, and there was one broken socket, which was coming off the wall and was distinctly dangerous. Again, a bit tricky with a baby.
Was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Rooms tastefully decorated and clean.
+ very nice staff
ease of access to Oxford
Modern and stylish fittings It was a guest house. No bar or dining room.
Friendly Staff, good service, Excellent rooms, close to city. no
The room was fantastic, staff were extremely friendly. Breakfast in the room, Woooo Hooooo. Oxford is a difficult place to find accomodation. Save your time, book with the MHH, you wont be disappointed and you will save hours trying to find a room elsewhere. There was nothing about this hotel I didnt like.
Very friendly & helpfull staff / owners Our rom, which was very comfotable was at the top floor of the hotel. We had two rather large cases to lug upstairs. No help fromstaff. However when we came to leave aftertwo enjoyable days there, a very strong and helpful chap carried our cases down to the lobby. Very much a boon as I waas not looking forward to lugging the cases back down two flights of stairs
The reception staff were amiable and helpful. Regret to say one of the mattresses was very lumpy - we could not get a comfortable night's rest.
Brilliant facilities and system - like the self catering aspect Would have been nice to have a full length mirror!
Comfortable bed & nice crisp linen. A glorified B&B, overpriced and tired looking. Bath filthy & shower head dripping. Cont breakfast served on Sundays, not at all appitizing.
I can see how the set-up would work as a base for Tourists or Contract workers Breakfast was made in a Microwave and tasted like it
Excellent service Too much free yougurt
The room was spacious and clean, very comfortable We had breakfast but the food was not very nice at all
Good location. Nice room with a very pleasant breakfast service. Very low water pressure in the shower
