When you stay at Dettifoss Guesthouse in Skinnastadur, you'll be 9 minutes by car from Asbyrgi. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Kitchen was fully equipped and spacious. The place was beautifully decorated. Enjoyed the midnight sun. Near to Dettifoss. Sink in each room. Spacious toilets and bathrooms.
Pros: Immaculate and quiet. Spacious and warm. Really loved the place. The shower room floor was warm as well. Would love to go back in future.
Pros: Friendly staff, very clean and good location
Pros: Very new and comfortable.
Pros: The room no 7 was hot and no normal window.
Pros: The guesthouse was very cosy and super clean. The dining room and the kitchen were fully equipped and comfortable to cook and having our meals. Was a pleasure staying there.
Pros: This was the first time that I stayed in a guesthouse with shared facilities. It was actually better than I expected. The rooms were very nice with a modern design. One of the rooms we stayed in actually had a sink which was nice. There were plenty of bathrooms so I never had to wait for one to become available. We had to rent three rooms to fit my entire family, but it still wasn't any more expensive than any of the other places we stayed in Iceland. The shared kitchen was a little crowded at times, but it wasn't too bad. Everyone that stayed there was courteous.
Pros: The kitchen was very well equipped
Cons: In the morning we couldn't have hot water
Pros: very nice accomodation run by a very kind lady who knows a lot about the area. where where a bit reluctant first to book something with shared bathrooms but this turned out to be great as the bathrooms where suberb, clean and warm. Its good that the rooms have their own sink so that you dont have to go to teh bathroom to brush your teeth as we had to do in other locations. The area is also nice. Close to some stunning natural areas
Pros: It is really close to Dettifoss, which is really great if you are planning on spending the day hiking around the area. The bathrooms were also rather nice. Home also had enough space for you to do your cooking without interfering with other guests.
Cons: The home felt like living in the room of an 80's hospital. I didn't expect the home to be modern but I believe it could do with a few upgrades.
Pros: Rooms were lovely, bright and clean. Bathrooms were fantastic - the shower was a highlight. Large kitchen and dining area to cook food you bring. We booked a family room for two couples but were upgraded to two private rooms because of a heating Issue for no extra charge.
Cons: Kitchen area is closed in the morning so you can't eat breakfast. We arrived around 7:30pm and the only store 20 min away had closed at six (off season). Not the fault of the guesthouse of course. The wifi worked but was a bit weak in the rooms.
Pros: Brilliant guesthouse, host was really welcoming and helpful. We had the bottom floor to ourselves so it was like having the whole property to ourselves. A little out the way but definitely worth the stay if your up that way.
Pros: Super place. Nice and very clean. Recommended
Cons: Nothing to dislike
Cons: This is not a Guesthouse. The current rating of 9,7 may (or may not) be ok for a hostel. As a Guesthouse 7,0 would be a more appropriate rating. The rooms are quite expensive, given they are old, small and youth hostel style. Besides that, no cards accepted, cash payment only!
Pros: Welcoming but somewhat confused host. Somewhere along our booking process the communication went haywire and despite of us having 3 persons in our party the booking indicated only 1. Luckily the host was kind enough to help out with bedding so all of us could be accommodated without further demand for fees.
Cons: The noise coming from upstairs was somewhat distracting after a long day and extremely long journey.
Pros: Host was very friendly and warm. He waited up for our late arrival at 10:30 pm and showed us our accommodations. The guesthouse has two buildings and we were offered a room in the second building. There are two bedrooms in the second house with two bathrooms in the hallway. We used one and the other guests used the second one upon their arrival the next day. There is a full kitchen should you wish to cook. Kópasker is a very quiet hamlet so you will have a very peaceful rest. Travelers be advised that you will need to pay cash or do a bank transfer.
Cons: Nothing really to dislike. I would encourage the host to upgrade the second house a bit more. Lots of potential with minor upgrading. A nice lounging/reading area would be a great addition.
