Cons: Liked it all

Pros: Truely 'a labour of love' this family owned and run motel lacks nothing. Very new with top notch facilities , quite frankly I couldn't have been happier. A very open and friendly west coast welcome only added to the experience.

Pros: We booked a two bedroom apartment and it was spotless, very comfortable and cheaper then expected. The owner was extremely friendly and very helpful. We were able to checkin an hour earlier and the owner attended to all our needs immediately. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Met Phil on arrival and he could not have been more helpful. Check in and check out was a breeze. Phil gave us a run down of the history of the place – really interesting and great to have a chat. Lots of local knowledge. The place was perfect – spotlessly clean and everything we needed. Bed was really comfortable. Ran into Phil later at the supermarket when we were looking for small block of butter (they had none). Returned to the unit to find a full block of local butter by the door! Highly recommend this place to say in Hokitika
Cons: Laundry was not open 24 hours, but this was my fault I could have organised access after reception had closed, had I asked. apart from that, everything was fantastic.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hosts, helpful and informative about local activities. Helpful also providing information on the next leg of our journey. Very comfortable bed and gorgeous view from room and communal lounge area with fantastic sunny deck. A little out of town but worth it for view and surrounds (not even 5 minutes). Stay here if you want a quiet and comfortable relaxing stay. We stayed after catching the Tranzalpine from Christchurch - well worth the stay. Also great recommendation of both Ali’s kitchen for late lunch and the Albion bar(kingsgate hotel).
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful surroundings and lovely owner would definitely go again
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our experience at Oak Lodge left us feeling that we should have booked more homestays for our month long tour of New Zealand rather than the motels that we used elsewhere. This property had the wow factor as soon as we stepped in through the door. Alastair and Shirley were exceptionally welcoming hosts and had much to tell us about the local area. We had the fabulous balcony room with amazing views over the wonderful New Zealand countryside.Extra bonuses included a tour of the property which involved an opportunity to feed the small flock of sheep Alastair keeps on the property and goldfish in the garden pond. We even managed to fit in a couple of games of pool before bed. The very tasty breakfast was a welcome change from the self made breakfasts we had been used to in our other accommodation. The guest lounge was spacious, comfortable, and well laid out with usual kitchen facilities you would find in a motel. If you are stopping in Greymouth we would certainly recommend a stay here.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Ideal stop off on a long journey, plenty of space
Cons: Lack of water, that was just bad luck
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful home cooked breakfast with homemade jams and muffin to go. Welcoming hosts and spa with great views.

Pros: Very friendly and welcoming hosts. Beautifully presented property/ quiet location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amberlea is in a quiet residential location but it is possible to walk to both Sunset Point to see the amazing sunsets (20-30 minutes) and the centre of the town. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming and provided good recommendations of restaurants and things to do in the area. Guest accommodation was on the upper floor and included a lovely communal lounge with tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was provided downstairs, in our host's kitchen. My husband loved the pets! Hokitika Gorge is worth a visit despite being a 30 minute detour from the main road.

7.0 Good
Pros: Clean
Cons: Unfortunately I was not aware of the cats No fresh food or “real” scrambled eggs
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and welcoming hosts. Quiet location a short walk from downtown restaurants and shops. Very clean room with comfortable bed and pillows. Good breakfast choices. Free parking on the property. Nice yard and common area.
Cons: Room and bathroom would benefit from more surface areas and a hanging rack for clothes. Living out of suitcases and toilet kits can get old after a couple days; although we only stayed one night. Also, one bedside lamp for a two-person bed isn't enough! Suggest wall-mounted reading lamps. And, too many throw pillows take up space when not on the bed. Travellers seek utility in a room rather than quaint and cute.

Pros: This place took me back to North Carolina living on a farm. The wood stove was a nice touch! The warmth of the fire, the incredible memories shared, and the love and peace the ambiance created made this a place to visit time and time again! We cannot wait to get back! Thanks so much, Kate!
Cons: The property needs some minor work; however, I cannot fault Kate for this. She has poured her her heart and soul into this property and continuous improvement is obviously her goal! It’s a lot of work for one person. I can assure you if this...you will feel unadulterated love and peace the moment you set foot in the door!
