Hotel had great views of Lake Biwa, really nice hotel. Staff did not speak much English. Hotel does have shuttle for transport to/from train station, but it stops fairly early in the evening. Getting to Kyoto from hotel takes about 45 min - 1 hour. There is a great American style mall across lake from hotel. Hotel did have internet, but required a transformer and quite a few cables to get it to work.
My girlfriend and I chose to stay in Otsu because we were unaware of the popularity of the 'leaves turning' in Kyoto. While the hotel was fine in all of the 'rating categories', there was not too much to do in the town of Otsu. We left in the morning via bus/train to Kyoto and came back at night to sleep. Nothing about the hotel was terrible but wish we would have been able to stay in Kyoto.
Excellent choice if you would like to visit Kyoto without having to deal with the over crowded city at night. A little more expensive but the location is beautiful overlooking the lake with the mountains on the horizon. Every room faces the lake and the dining in the resturaunt is top notch if you do not feel like waiting for a table in the city during peak tourist season.
Very nice staff. Good get away from city and relax area. There are additional charge for to use the hotel weights room. Hotel food is expensive. Hotel free bus to the train station ends too early.
The staff spoke English well, the rooms were large and comfortable. The Bathroom was very nice and roomy.
Beautiful, many amentites, free shuttle, customer service!
Appeared reasonably priced, at first. The rate for 1 extra night (Saturday) was charged at 300% the week night rate paid at booking, The air conditioning thermostat was damaged and the room was excessively hot. The staff just said 'sorry' and did nothing the resolve the problem.
I liked the mood of the hotel, like a traditional ryokan with futon, tatame,,kimonos and traditional japanese breakfast in the room.Nice attention from the staff , farewell greetings untill the bus turned of the corner the street! Like I said it is a japanese traditional style, do not expect an international standart room, it is not a complaint, just a remark...
