El Rincón de Gadea is located in Santa Gadea, 5 minutes' drive from Ebro Reservoir. This traditional stone house features a charming garden and a lounge with a fireplace. The rooms at El Rincón de Gadea feature rustic décor and wooden floors. Each one has free Wi-Fi, a TV and a private bathroom. The property's restaurant serves traditional mountain-style food. Please note that lunch and dinner require a reservation. There are bars and restaurants within a short walk in Santa Gadea. Nearby there you can visit the beautiful Monte Hijedo Forest, and the Ebro Reservoir is great for bird watching. Santander is an hour's drive away, and you can drive to Burgos in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The property offers free parking on site.
Pros: Excellent welcome by the owners. Very nice people. The first impression when we arrived in a cold night with a staying room warmed by a chimney was great, providing a charming atmosphere, enhanced by the rustic furniture. Beautiful room and good breakfast.
Pros: Very comfortable bed & good linen. Rosa (the owner) very helpful and pleasant.
Cons: Finding the place was a nightmare! Google maps takes you to the village, which rambles & all of the buildings look exactly the same as the hotel. There are no street names.. For anyone else wanting to find the hotel - pull over outside church (next to bar) where Google info runs out. Take the road to the left and carry on 200 yards to a park on your right. The road splits. Stay to the left and its approx 5 houses along there. There is a VERY small sign outside. You need to open the driveway gate walk to the house and ring the bell. There is no phone no (but Rosa doesn't speak English, so you would need a Spanish person to make the call!) To confuse further, there is another hotel called Casa Rural on the lower road - that's where we were sent to and there was no one in except a large dog - pretty scary when its getting dark! Parking is on the grass verge next to the driveway - fine when we're the only guests - not sure where everyone would park if more of you?
Pros: The host! And it was very clean..
Pros: The couple running this lovely small hotel were absolutely brilliant! If you want to stay out of the way in a clean well appointed room with really friendly people, this is it. The lady cooked a wonderful evening meal and I thoroughly recommend Hotel Rural El Rincón de Gadea.
Cons: Everything was great!
Pros: food was abundant and tasty with local products, good value for money. Welcoming and warm staff.
Pros: the warmth of the owner host
Pros: Peaceful, friendly staff and excellent for going walking and exploring.
Cons: I liked everything.
Pros: The hotel staff were very friendly, the food in the restaurant was delicious and very good value for money, the room had an excellent view and a great balcony, the bed was very comfy. We would’ve loved to have stayed for longer.
Pros: We only had breakfast at the Farmhouse and it was good value for money. the owners were excellent even with us not speaking a lot of Spanish. it was really great to holiday in rural Spain.
Cons: Happy with it all
Pros: Nice location the area of Embalse del Ebro and Merindades, very nice landmark of an area plety of old towns well maintained and plenty of wild life specially birds of many kinds.
This charming stone house is situated in the Cantabrian countryside, near to the Ebro River. Surrounded by forests and gardens, it offers individually decorated rooms with flat-screen TVs. The rooms at La Lobera are chic and feature exposed wooden beams. They come with a private bathroom complete with a hairdryer. The traditional-style restaurant at Posada La Lobera serves homemade, regional cuisine for dinner. Reservation is necessary. Guests can also relax in the bar area. Lobera’s tour desk can provide information on Arroyo and surrounding areas, such as Las Rozas de Valdearroyo. Free parking is available on site.
Pros: We absolutely loved La Lobera. Homely feel, wonderful hosts, wonderful place, felt so relaxed and the home cooked food was perfect. Definitely going back
Pros: Lovely hostess. Charming hotel. We had dinner at the hotel and it was amazing. Quiet. Nice outside seating. Highly recommend
Cons: Nothing. No complaints
Pros: Location. Lovely home
Cons: No restaurants with in walking distance for dinner
Pros: the owners were fantastic
Pros: Beautiful room and clear that the owners care for the property and their guests.
Pros: Warm, kind and friendly welcome witch lasted till our end of stay! Like visiting old friends! Muchas Gracias Pilar and Ruben!
Pros: Beautiful building set in a quiet location. On-site parking - and if you have a motorcycle, right by the main entrance. Rooms are lovely, spacious, clean and comfortable. Good shower. The evening meal was superb, as was breakfast. The local bottled beer is very nice! Stay here and you won’t be disappointed. Well done to the owners.
Cons: There’s little not to like about the property. There’s no air-con. The cow-bells and cockerels start early but I’m being picky because there’s little to fault.
Pros: Staff were welcoming, room was clean and a good size, and both evening meal and breakfast were great. Safe parking for motorcycles.
Cons: Nothing, we have stayed here before and found it excellent.
Pros: Warm and friendly owners
Cons: Choice of menu
Pros: Hosts nothing was a problem.
Located in Las Rozas, Hotel Araz is a 1-minute drive from Embalse del Ebro and 8 minutes from Herbosa Church. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Everything !!!
Pros: This is a cracker of a hotel. Set in a beautiful location on the side of the reservoir. The only downside being that we didn't get to sit outside and enjoy the view as the weather had been so bad on the day of our stay. The upside being the picture windows still enabled us to soak it all up. Lovely well appointed rooms. Pedro the owner is an absolute star and speaks brilliant English. He also cooked up the best pigs cheeks that I've ever eaten. We would definitely stop at this hotel again if we were in the area.
Pros: The location was superb, the host was most charming and very knowledgeable about the area. We took his suggestions about a couple of places. We were so happy we did, they were amazing. Dinner was fine, a few choices available. Breakfast was Continental but with plenty of fresh choices.
Cons: The seating area whilst you wait for dinner is quite small. We had no worries as we were talking to a delightful dutch couple. But space would have have been tight for a large party. There are however, tables to sit out prior to dinner.
Pros: This was our third stay at Hotel Araz and I am sure we will stay again as it is a convenient distance from Santander port when arriving by ferry in the evening. The setting is peaceful, with a view of the lake created from the damming up of the Ebro. The owners offer a home-cooked evening meal with several choices, all delicious, and a pleasant breakfast in the morning. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a good shower and we always sleep well.
Pros: Location in very rural setting with views across the lake. Room was very good with very good bathroom. Last hotel in Spain before ferry from Santander. We had an evening meal and breakfast at the hotel which were shall we say different, when in Spain..... The dining area was functional coupled with a small social area. Watching a fox skulking about whilst we were at breakfast
Cons: The address entered into the Garmin 660 took us a mile away. Found it better using phone navigation. Sloping loose gravel car park (we were on motorcycles) Although the rooms were very good the exterior was very tired looking and some parts of the property were in decline. We ended up with a double room each as housekeeping had not been completed on twin rooms, this was late afternoon.
Pros: Extremely nice and hospitable hosts, very informative and entertaining. When available you should really try their homemade honey. A treat!
Pros: Views from the "pods" across the lake were good.
Pros: This property is run very efficiently by Peter and his wife, whom are both wonderful hosts. It is evident that they have put a lot of hard work and resources into this property which makes for a very pleasurable stay. The views from the the communiual living room are spectacular, looking across the lake and over to the hills. The food is simple yet delicious and beautifully prepared and presented. We only only stayed a single night as we were onto a final destination but I could see us returning and staying longer to enjoy the local countryside. The hotel has a light rail station to the front which is useful for trips to local places. We travelled on a motorcycle and the local roads were empty and a very enjoyable ride. Probably in all my years of travelling I found Araz to be the most genuinely welcoming and relaxing accommodation. Well done Peter.
Set in Santiurde de Reinosa, Albergue La Torre features a garden, bar, shared lounge, and free WiFi. Featuring ticket service, this property also has a restaurant and a children's playground. The hostel has a ski pass sales point. Guests at the hostel can enjoy a continental breakfast. Albergue La Torre offers a terrace. You can play table tennis and darts at the accommodation, and the area is popular for hiking and skiing. Santillana del Mar is 46 km from Albergue La Torre, while Suances is 46 km away. The nearest airport is Santander Airport, 62 km from the hostel.
Pros: Convenient location, for onward motorway travel. Friendly staff. Basic but well priced food. Quiet location
Pros: The location, friendly helpful owners and spectacular mountain views. The evening meal was delicious among friendly fellow guests, and the bedroom was spotless and comfortable. I would definitely stay there again given the opportunity.
Cons: Nothing, everything was perfect.
Pros: Proximity to the motorway Friendly owners
Cons: This is a basic hostel with basic food but suitable for our needs Possibly overpriced
Pros: We had the Tower Room which was very special. Our ferry was 4 hours late and the owners waited up for us until after midnight. They even offered us a meal on arrival. The albergue is very close to the motorway and easy to find, but is in a very quiet rural location. Perfect for en-route ferry stops as well as holidays.
Cons: breakfast was coffee, 2 cup cakes & a bun each
Pros: ]2nd stay here. Nothing to criticise at all. Loved the area
Cons: Nothing to moan about
Pros: Loved the simple rustic style and time spent around the table over meals with other travellers.
Cons: Be careful not to follow Google maps directions up an unmade steep road from the highway!
Pros: Friendly. Good food. Lovely View. Just off the motorway , good for an overnight stop.
Cons: Signage. We had trouble identifying it, even though it is in a tiny village
Pros: The owners were very friendly and helpful. They also made a nice meal for us in the evening when we arrived.
Cons: We had a short stopover on the way to southern Spain. There was nothing we didn't like.
With a stay at Gran Hotel Balneario de Corconte in Valle De Valdebezana, you'll be steps from Embalse del Ebro and a 2-minute drive from Italian Soldiers Monument. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The hotel is unique. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Our bedroom was amazing, very comfortable. The food was really tasty. I also treated myself to a beauty treatment in the Spa. The reception was extremely helpful letting us check out late due to travel departure times.
Cons: The public places could be cleaner. Some area's are really dusty for example the window ledges in the Grand Salon and the window ledge on the stair. The grounds are a bit disappointing but not a deal breaker.
Pros: I liked the room size, the food was traditional from Cantabria region, the spa is still the original
Cons: It wasn´t very clean, the lamps had dust in the room, the bathroom was out of fashion, broken mirror
Pros: Location and value for money. Good value set meal in the evening and room spacious and clean
Cons: Trying to find it.
Pros: They show a pool which is not accessible - would have been nice to have a swim
Cons: English spoken was not very good
Pros: location alongside large lake and views
Pros: Characterful old spa hotel with interesting historical photographs displayed on the walls. Good views of the lake (Embalses del Ebro) Fresh Croissants, when available were excellent.. The dinner (not included) was tasty and good value
Cons: For the first day of our stay the water from the taps was heavily discoloured and loaded with sediment. We were told this was because the water provider had been repairing the water main. This was rectified on the second day of our stay and the water quality was better afterwards. A small discount was applied to our bill. Some of the breakfast items seemed to run out quickly, especially the fresh hot croissants!
Pros: This place is stunning but wasted opportunities- charging silly amounts to use the pool - no mixers for drinks - no orange juice on arrival, no complimentary drinks in room - no fridge in room - staff smoking right by reception so you have to walk through it - hardly a spa environment! Gardens need weeding - no decent garden furniture - poor and tired all round but incredible building
Cons: This place is stunning but wasted opportunities- charging silly amounts to use the pool - no mixers for drinks - no orange juice on arrival, no complimentary drinks in room - no fridge in room - staff smoking right by reception so you have to walk through it - hardly a spa environment! Pros: Very old and tired and very cold
Cons: The whole way it was run
Pros: Great and surreal experience off the beaten track. Enjoyed the spa experience too. Bed was comfy, breakfast was good.
Cons: The restaurant was flexible with a vegetarian guest, although it definitely wasn't up to the same standards as the food on the menu.
