Easy walking distance to good restaurants, wine tasting, the fortress, the river and a bike rental place.

Pros: This is a beautiful building, steeped in history and very sensitively modernised. The welcome was extremely warm and friendly - even our dog was made to feel at home. The breakfast, taken in the company of other guests, was outstanding. We will definitely visit again and would highly recommend it. Chinon is a beautiful town and there are a number of good places to eat not far from the chamber d'hôte.

Pros: The property is really pretty and has been renovated to a high standard retaining lots of the original features. The area is lovely and it is only a 5 minute drive into Chinon, which is a very nice town with lots of restaurants. Vero and Ronan are lovely people and very helpful, booking a restaurant for us at short notice. We very much enjoyed our breakfast, which was excellent with lots of choice and very good quality. We are sorry that we were only able to stay one night and wouldn't hesitate to return to Domaine de Givré. Merci beaucoup et à la prochaine, J'espère!
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a beautiful place to stay and definitely worth every penny. The room, the decor, the comfort of the bed and furnishings along with the history of the place make it a fascinating and exciting place to stay. The pool is beautifully situated to catch the evening sun and was very welcome after a long day travelling. Our room had a lovely terrace from where we enjoyed our dinner, which we brought along with us and this was no problem at all. Although Chinon is only 5 minutes drive away and is a very pleasant town with many restaurants. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming and we felt very much at home. They couldn't do enough to make sure everything was alright for us. The breakfast was really good, a lovely selection of things, fresh coffee and a boiled egg being kept warm by the chicken cosy! We would 100% recommend Domaine de Givré, it would be impossible not like it here, it was PERFECT!

Cons: Nothing, it was perfect for us

The host could not do enough to ensure our stay was good, with daily suggestions of where to visit and help to book a local restaurant. This is a very special place to stay and I would highly recommend it.

Pros: We stayed here on two occasions, for a total of three nights on our way to and from the south. The accommodation and breakfast were excellent and we also had dinner on the night we arrived, with three courses courses plus aperitifs: it was very enjoyable with all the guests sitting round one table. Christelle was very friendly and helped us to book a table at a restaurant in Chinon. It is very conveniently located for the autoroute and the vineyards and chateaux of this section of the Loire.
Cons: Everything was fine.

Pros: This place was the highlight of our trup to the Loire Valley. Great hosts who really couldn't do enough for us and as for those breakfasts on the terrace overlooking the river - just amazing ! I would really recommend this place.
Cons: unless you really like walking then you need a car. This is not a negative as we knew where we were staying before booking but 5km to nearest town (Chinon) and no chance of local cabs.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Usually stay in France about 6-8 times a year and this is the best place we have ever stayed, for every reason: - On our route so no big detours - Easy to find and easy to park - Spacious room - Spotlessly clean - Extremely comfortable bed - Great bathroom - Beautiful and amazing grounds and property - Incredible breakfast that is all fresh and served in a beautiful room with every need attended to - Very reasonable price - Truly perfect hosts who demonstrate immaculate and faultless attention to every detail but with complete calm and serenity. Would recommend this as a perfect destination whether passing through for one night or staying for a week or even a month. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful area, easy to find and yet out of the way. Plenty of space to park right outside the room. The accommodation was excellent- spotlessly clean, spacious & comfortable furnishings that all looked brand new. A very good nights sleep and nice shower before a walk round the very large grounds and garden. Breakfast was magnificent with so much home made preserves, yogurt, cheese and ham. Fresh orange juice and coffee- a real banquet and served in a separate breakfast room. Entertained and cared for by very attentive hosts; nothing was too much and it was lovely to experience their calm and relaxing approach towards life. So pleased we found this beautiful property and have already booked a return stay and hope to see more of the surrounding area where there is so much to do and see.
4.0 Okay
Pros: breakfast ok location good
Cons: facilities in the room could have been better. The room was very basic, and we were not allowed to sit outside the property after 10.30pm as the neighbour complained they could hear us talking, we had to go inside and sit on the bed with our 2 family members.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was our stop on a road, but it could be also a nice base to visit the Loire valley or just relax. The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere, but still easy to find. I would recommend to eat your dinner before you arrive the hotel, otherwise you must drive a car again to go to any restaurant (not very appealing perspective after full day of driving) Location: Between A10 and A35 motorways about 25 km away from any of them. Definitely worth to divert from the motorway, even for 1 night stop. Nice, quiet place near a small river (that drove a mill in the past). Room: Large, functional, well heated when we arrived (important, as there was only 10 degrees outside). Good lighting. Electric sockets easily accessible. Bed: Comfortable and large. Bathroom: Large, functional, enought space for your toiletries. Large shower cabin that can easily accommodate 2 persons. WiFI - OK Breakfast: Excellent. You may choose between French sweet breakfast (including home made jam and cake) or order ham and cheese or combine them. Freshly squeezed orange juice, good coffee and tea. Large selection of tasty bread.

Mayerly baked new cake every morning and provide homemade yoghurt and irresistible croissant and baguette, plus fruits, eggs and cheese on request. For dinner, the two course meal is very good cooked with heart. They also have good wine list from local wineries. The rooms are tasteful decorated and very big. The property is quiet and perfect for sleep.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had the best experience and we were really well looked after - I can’t wait to return! This is my favourite place I have stayed in France.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a sort of farm-like mansion. The buildings surround a patio where breakfast is served if weather permits. The whole place can be shut with a gate at night, you get a key to open the side door so you can open the gate. You can park within the gated space as well. The place is beautiful, rooms are large. We had the family room, the upstairs with two adjacent rooms and a bathroom and a separate toilet.. The hallway in between the rooms is somewhat open but it is the last floor so I doubt anybody will be ever there. Breakfast is nice. You make the choice of a warm beverage the night before and set a time and everything is set ready on the table. The breakfast included a very good fruit salad, you had the choice to add yogurt. Then there was one type of bread and several choices of jams spreads. Only sweet things, no savory choices. Communication is easy, the host had several suggestions for restaurants nearby.
Cons: The hosts seemed to be overly worried about keeping the place clean and tidy, which makes the place less suitable for families with small kids. The room of the kids had large bolts sticking out of the floor, we all hurt our feet a couple of times on it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location worked well for visiting Chinon and other area sites. Our room was lovely and large. We enjoyed breakfast each morning with a variety of French pastries provided. Our hosts were very helpful with directions, restaurant reservations, and checking to be sure we knew of local places of interest. They even waited up late our first evening to be sure we returned safely. Parking was readily available. Michelle and Jean-Jaques were the perfect hosts.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hosts, location, garden area, bedroom & bathroom.
Cons: Upper level bathroom does not have a useable shower. The shower is handheld and there is no shower curtain.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Property is full of character. Friendly owners. Breakfast was super.
Cons: It would be helpful if there was a signboard at point where one needs to turn off main road into hamlet where property is located. It is not the easiest place to find.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb accommodation with excellent hosts.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, quiet, sunny gite in a beautiful old building which also contains four chambres d'hote and the owners' apartment. Delightful shared garden where we could relax, sip wine, eat, and occasionally chat with other guests. Charming and welcoming hosts; excellent kitchen; parking. Very quiet location with a semi-rural feel; we could walk through the woods to the banks of the nearby River Vienne. Well located for visiting many Loire Valley towns and villages, gardens and chateaux. Lovely countryside. Large Carrefour supermarket 3k away at Avoine. With goodwill and occasional use of Google Translate, communication with our hosts was fine.
Cons: From our viewpoint the only downside was that the nearest baker was around 2k away, so we could not stroll out for baguette and croissants in the morning.

Pros: Wonderful pool and hosts so helpful
Cons: All great no complaints
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The only problem is with the stairs, but you know, in the medieval buildings not all goes as you'd wish to have it. And this building comes from 1431 (if I remember correctly). Apart from it all was perfect and the couple that owns the place was really nice and helpful. Plus, they have a very good local wine at good price and speak good English. Mein Liebchen, Was Willst Du Noch Mehr?
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent tranquil location in a sympathetically restored ancient building. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. Lovely breakfast around a communal table. We would love to return.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thierry's welcome was excellent and he could not have done more for us. The room was lovely, the recommendation for dinner in a local restaurant was spot on, and breakfast as excellent. I would recommend to anyone - a lovely place to stay.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thierry and Chantal are excellent hosts, we felt very welcome, superb room and breakfast, very well located to discover the beautiful landscape and castles of the loire, we travelled with 2 young kids, the place is very children friendly and with a nice secured pool.
Cons: Nothing actually- everything was great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed during the August bank holiday weekend and the trip was amazing from start to finish! When we got there, the hosts pointed us to local sites we should visit and gave us restaurant recommendations. They were so delightful and it was great talking to them throughout the stay :) The actual building itself is steeped in history - it felt like a fairy-tale staying there. The breakfast outside in the garden was my favourite thing. Fresh local produce in the calm and relaxing countryside. The swimming pool was an amazing addition seeing as it was 30 degrees! We loved coming back from a day exploring the Loire Valley region and having a dip before dinner.
Cons: Can't think of anything - we were so happy with our visit! Thank you for having us, I hope we'll be back soon!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Magnificent view from rooms. Dinner was excellent, and reasonable value. Friendly and efficient staff with more than enough English spoken. All in all, a great hotel.
Cons: Motel-like accommodation block, over three floors with entrances balconies at the back and well up from the main hotel. It was not a problem for us, but would not suit anybody with even minor mobility problems. But it did provide for the most wonderful views from the front (which was probably the idea). The rooms themselves were lovely.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing views. Very hospitable and helpful host/owner. We had a nice dinner on the terrace. Rooms fully equipped as expected. Short drive away from the Loire and beautiful villages and towns, so great location.
Cons: We had a family room for 4. The children loved the mezzanine sleeping area, but the room was rather cramped to get all our suitcases in and allow ourselves moving freely around. We didn't mind, and it meant great value for money, but just to be aware. Offset by a nice balcony however!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is in a lovely location. The rooms are comfortable and the manager is a charming man. We had a family room at the top of the hotel. This has lovely views from the balcony, overlooking a large area of woodland across to the rivers. Check-in and out was easy and the manager speaks very good English if your French is a limited. The evening meal was very tasty, although a little on the expensive side when adding drinks as well.
Cons: The children's meal was a bit disappointing. Very small portion sizes and a little bland.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming and always remember us as been before Good hospitality and food
Cons: Nothing

Pros: This is a little bit of heaven in a beautiful area of France. Manfred has created a magical place and couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming on arrival and throughout our stay. The rooms are impeccable and are such a high standard of accommodation, modern bathrooms yet bedrooms of such wonderful old French charm and character. The grounds are a peaceful and serene piece of French countryside. Myself, my wife and our 15 year old daughter stayed in this amazing place. We had searched many options beforehand so don’t look any further than here...we couldn’t recommend it more. 5 stars!

Pros: Very nice house with beautiful garden. The host is very friendly and give us good advice for the dinner since we arrived quite late. The room is out of our expectation, clean and full-deco washroom, lovely lights above the head of the bed. Next time we will stay there more days, when we visit that region.
Cons: All the guests are having breakfast together on one big table, which was not that relax, especially for the persons who first meet without same culture and don't speak same language.

Pros: The Breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was superb - a great selection of breads and home made jams - even some homemade cakes! Fabienne was extremely attentive to all our needs throughout our stay, constantly checking if we needed anything more. We had table d’hote meals which were extremely well prepared and beautifully presented, with aperos and drinks to start! The garden surrounding the house was fantastic- so many different plants and trees to see. Our studio was extremely well equipped, having cooking facilities should we need them. The bed was extremely comfortable.

Pros: An excellent place for vacation at the country side. Pleasent envoroment with wonderful chateaus around. Wonderful hostess. Well equipped kitchen.
Cons: A little bit slow wi-fi since the place is in the rural area. But good enough if you have a vacation time.

Cons: None
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was, by far, our favorite place to stay during our travels around France. Fabienne was a wonderful host and had many helpful suggestions about local attractions. Breakfast was lovely, with homemade jams and baked goods, and the property was beautiful.
Cons: We were there on the hottest day recorded in France ever!
4.6 Okay
Cons: 1 No door between the bathroom facility and the bedroom. This could be difficult for some people if they were travelling with a child as this was a double plus single triple room - so no privacy. 2 No television or radio in the room - there was a communal tv lounge. However at the price demanded one would have expected a tv (and a door on the toilet). 3 Only herbal and sweet tea bags provided in the room - no coffee, no ordinary tea - this was reflecting the owners own taste. 4 for the price, a poor breakfast - limited choice no cheese or ham, no croissants, no eggs, no fruit.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: An absolutely historic and charming property. Comfortable bed and remarkable breakfast with the largest croissant ever!
Cons: Personally I was absolutely enchanted with the place but it won't suit everyone. It's beautifully preserved 17th century ambience will make access difficult for some and also the toilet and shower in our room had been squeezed in and had to be squeezed into. For us it was a drawback well worth coping with.

Cons: Nothing it was a lovely experience

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely friendly welcome, lots of empathy.
Cons: The hotel is perfect but a seven minute drive from the centre of Chinon which is a touch too far to walk. The good news is that it's unsuitable for those who like to spend the evening drinking as you have to come and go by car which suits me fine. This hotel is hard to beat: big rooms, big beds and at a great price. Highly recommended.

Pros: Very clean and comfortable
9.6 Excellent
Pros: As has been mentioned by others, the breakfast was better with more choice than elsewhere. The location in what is effectively a business area could have been boring.Instead there were lovely plants and seating areas outside which made the area much more pleasant.
6.7 Good
Pros: Good value for money, large bedroom and comfy bed, central loire valley location and close to the pretty town of Chinon, one the best in the area with lots of good quality restaurants and vineyards nearby. Easy to get to some amazing chateaux nearby.
Cons: No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast was a bit ordinary with reasonable variety but not quality produce.

Pros: Very nice overnight stop .... staff very helpful & fantastic breakfast!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely facilities in a lovely setting. Excellent, friendly staff. We’ll definitely stay here again in the future.
Cons: They need to up their breakfast game. A lot. Breakfast is mostly just bread and jam (quite good jam, to be sure), and some of the bread is just sliced white bread. The only cheeses (2 of them) are fairly lame. The only meat offered is a pork rillette (it’s tasty), but many people avoid pork for religious or other reasons. There’s no muesli or other cereal. There are no eggs, not even simple hard-boiled eggs.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Ambience and history of the building, the attractive courtyard garden and the central location. The breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Room was a bit small (bathroom was good size).
