Cons: We liked everything
Pros: I liked the whole experience. It is close to places to eat and or drink without having to drive but some are closed in off season. The owners are extremely hospitable, who are prepared to go that "extra mile" to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The garden albeit small is on a river bank and very pretty with peace and quiet all around while we there. Our bed was very comfortable and the shower spacious for our needs. Breakfast was excedllent

When you stay at Château de La Combe in Mareuil en Périgord, you'll be in a regional park and 8 minutes by car from Château de Mareuil. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and an elevator (lift). Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Dream location, a really old castle in a small lonely valley with just nature around, really calm, in a national parc, no ways/busy or ugly things around, just sweet old villages. Renovation and decoration of the house, highest tastefull (think Milk, Kinfolk). Breakfast at the terrasse overlooking the valley with just bio products in lovely vintage cups and pots. Nice swimmingpool in the natural garden. A truly unique place.
Cons: They have kids you can hear sometimes. But it's not a hotel and it makes the place alive. Nice for people with kids as well.
Pros: The whole experience was so wonderfully French in the way we usually imagine it. The lovely Ftench owners are a hard working couple striving to restore this beautiful chateau in a way that is chic but exquisitely simple...just as this 500 year old property should be. When we talk about ‘escaping to the chateau’ in the UK, this one is the authentic French real deal. Not overdressed but serene and peaceful for a contemplative visit if that’s what you want or need. An organic part of the French countryside. My sister and I were genuinely inspired by this place along with the integrity of the owners raising their little family there. Thank you Julie & Joanne
Pros: Beautiful castle in the middle of nowhere....Nice pool.
Cons: No complaints
Pros: The location
Cons: The bedroom door did not lock
Pros: The Bed was extremely comfy, the decor was right up my street - quite different. We would definitely love to go back again.
Pros: The location is stunning and the building is beautifully rustic. Our bedroom was very spacious and the bed extremely comfortable.
Cons: It would have been helpful to have a sign directing us from the car park to the entrance as the building is so big on arrival it wasn’t obvious which door to approach to gain access. There were kids bikes and toys dotted around the garden which could have been tidied away. The night before our stay a storm caused damage to a power line so there was no electricity for the duration. A torch / flask of hot water for tea or coffee in each room would have been a welcome thought by the proprietors because once evening fell our room was pitch black and we couldn’t make use of the communal lounge area.
Pros: Friendly hosts, character property.
Cons: Dinner a little late first night - but meals delicious
Pros: Wonderful beds, and linen, with a bright room, quirky bathroom that was wonderful to find. Loved the whole charismatic building. the hosts were kind and welcoming and the food was fantastic. We loved the home made bread and jams, the evening meals was also informal and a delight, served in a real authentic Chateau environment. We would not hesitate to book to stay again.
Cons: I liked everything.
Pros: The castle has been beautifully renovated and the grounds and garden surrounded with trees and river give a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for a relaxing holiday. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. The common room has a great library with plenty of great books to read. The breakfast is delicious, homemade with local produce. The location is perfect with beautiful villages and excellent restaurants in the surrounding area. The host family are so friendly and welcoming and gave us plenty of advice for sightseeing. The whole stay was absolutely perfect.

Pros: Large, comfortable room - very clean and tastefully furnished. Thierry was very friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed chatting to him in the evening. It is a very peaceful setting with a beautiful pool and gardens where you can sit and enjoy the surroundings. There is also table tennis, darts and bikes to occupy older children and plenty of space for them to play. We used this as a stopover on the way to the south of France and would definitely recommend it as a place to relax.
Pros: The peace and quiet and the friendliness of the local people. Thierry was an amazing host, super friendly and helped give us tips on where to go etc. The place was clean and so peaceful. Cannot be faulted
Cons: Shops are shut on a Sunday afternoon so be aware!
Pros: nice location
Cons: Not So clean above the shower And above the window in the bathroom
Pros: Loved the setting, rooms, pool, peace and quite. A warm welcome, a great place to stay.
Cons: We had no complaints
Pros: Very nice bread was warm when served
Cons: The runny eggs
Pros: The bed was very comfy, the homemade fig jam at breakfast was really nice too. I liked the pool and the decor of the house and the quiet location. We had family who were staying in a rental barn in the next village so we didn't spend much time there, we did all use the pool though and the owner was very friendly and said we could come and go and use the facilities as we wanted. We enjoyed staying and would love to go back one day.
Cons: We went late in the year so the pool was quite cold
When you stay at Château du Bourbet in Cherval, you'll be 12 minutes by car from Château de Mareuil. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: We were a group of 12, a mix of young and old attending a nearby wedding. We stayed for two nights and we all had a very enjoyable stay. Albert the host was so friendly, accommodating & very helpful, especially organising local transport for us. Beautiful old style rooms, peaceful surroundings, lovely breakfast & comfy beds!
Cons: Nothing...everything was spot on.
Pros: Great Chateau, good location to explore the region. Albert is a great host and helped with finding a local restaurant. Will definitely return.
Pros: This was already our second stay in this beautiful castle. Albert is a great host, we definitely will come back again. Authentic furnitures, pool, well maintained garden, antique furnitures - everything you need for a perfect holiday!

Pros: Everything, excellent location, quiet area, the staff were delightful and the food was incredible. The restaurant was expensive but worth every penny
Cons: No problems
Pros: An old fashioned hotel, the decor a bit OTT but the staff were so friendly and eager to please that you could not criticise. Fantastic breakfast, and evening meal on Sunday which is rare in France. The setting is beautiful, next to a large lake, far from the road - no noise. Huge grounds, dog made very welcome. It is not on the N939, but a turning off in the middle of Vieux-Mareuil.
Pros: Everything was so relaxed
Cons: Unfortunately, the evening meal was a set price at 32e each, which we hadn't realised, and the food wasn't brilliant - dessert was awful

Cons: Extractor fan could be cleaned, waterproof mattress protector made sleeping uncomfortable.
Pros: We have stayed at this Hotel 5 times previously and it was so good to be welcomed back by Mr & Mdme Colas, who as ever were the perfect hosts. The Hotel is situated in a lovely part of France and we had trips to Bourdeilles, Brantome and Jumillac which were all beautiful villages. The view from our balcony was lovely. The food at dinner was superb (especially the Foi Gras) and being able to dine on the lovely terrace in candlelight made our stay very special. Cant wait till next year!
Cons: Would not change a thing!
