The beauty of the building, the proximity to the old town and our student daughter living in Salamanca. Exquisite furnishings in room, bath, hotel. The electronic keycards provided for entering the room stopped functioning after about 36 hours. We got new ones 1 or 2 times each during our 4 night stay. No big problem, but perhaps fixable?
The closeness to the train station and city center. Beautiful hotel and location!
Concierges were excellent; taking all problems from parking/stopping/dealing with luggage in very busy area for traffic. This is very important when, like us, we are driving in an unfamiliar and busy city. Breakfast area and staff awareness could be improved, but not a major problem
the friendlyness of the staff; you feel realy at home there
Comfortable hotel with good food and in a goold position to centre of city. Service at breakfast could be improved - on two days staff forgot to bring drinks (tea). On one morning had to be reminded twice.
The parking price - 15 € / day + taxes- is too high.
Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel location was terrific. not on top of the noise but right near everything.
This hotel is convenient for walking from the Renfe train station (about ten minutes by foot) and for exploring in Salamanca. It is right on the edge of the old town. We really appreciated the complimentary use of the computer for internet access. Very nicely appointed decor. There were no English language tv channels!!!!! And this is categorized as a five star hotel!???? We understand that every language cannot be represented in a tv menu, but surely this hotel accomodates many international guests and should realize that English is a major language in the world.
Very pleasant and helpful staff, lovely rooms with attractive decor and furnishings, excellent location, large well appointed bathroom, excellent breakfast would thoroughly recommend a stay here! Although the car parking good it was rather expensive!
The hotel was beautiful and the room was large and clean. The king-size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean, large and very nice - a lot of marble and glass and double sinks. The location was perfect - walking distance to everything (Plaza Mayor and all the sights) yet away from the hustle bustle. Was also walking distance to the train station. Parking at the hotel was very convenient. Lastly, there was a free computer available for guests in the lobby. My brother-in-law was given a hard time about ordering just a coffee when he got up in the morning. He did not want to spend for the buffet breakfast since we were going out later.
In comparison with the other hotels in this catagory in Salamanca, the AC Palacio de San Esteban is the best. Its location is both conveinent for the city and beautifully peaceful, with extraordinary views from the bedrooms. Will definately return.
This is a first class hotel in every way.My wife and I were impressed from the time we walked in until the time we left. Our intention is to go back there again next year. Many thanks to all involved.
Value for money. Beautiful property - very unique.
The location for visiting the historic buildings was excellent. Secure covered parking but only for a dozen cars. The decor is stunning and is a beautifully restored convent. Quiet location. One of the best rooms I have stayed in. Difficult to find and not well signposted in the city. Reception and restaurant staffs English was very limited and led to much confusion over booking a table for dinner. The menu was very limited with some items 'off the menu' the food was terrible and uninteresting and highly priced.I have rarely had a good meal in Spanish hotels. The car car charge was €10.00 per night which I thought was too high.
very tasteful contemporary decor ; excellent comfort
Location was good, small walk into town 10-15 mins. Free mini bar is good. Excellent lounge areas. WIFI was good in public areas.
location noise in hallways
breakfast doesn't correspond to a 5stars hotel
The hotel building is absolutely fantastic having kept the authenticity of the original convent yet providing spacious comfortable rooms and beautiful furnishings. the staff on the dest were friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome and special. The location is perfect for visiting Salamanca. Only complaint is the service at breakfast - staff were sour and not able (apparently) to cater to people who wanted just a simple breakfast, not the complete buffet.
Good location, excellent rooms, great service Everything was fine
Excelent location. Very confortable. Better directions
It was quite central, and the room was gorgeous the parking is expensive
Beautiful and comfortable
Convenient location and excellent staff. Not too keen on the restaurant menu - it hadn't changed on our return almost 3 weeks later!
the hotel is excellent - if you can affortd it or if you happen to get a good deal nothing. it was perfect
Good value Take earplugs!
Overall I enjoyed my stay a lot. The reception was helpful and the breakfast was great. But, there were only one thing to be improved at this hotel, the super slow wireless network (charged). I could barely check my emails, and it was impossible to serf the net for more travel info.
The staff is pleasant but could not improve our situation (see below) even though the hotel seemed largely empty. Several months ahead of time we requested a quiet room with 2 beds. Upon arrival we were given a room on the second floor, fronting the street and with trickling water pipes and other bathroom sounds being offensive.
This hotel is stunning. We loved everything about it.
Very helpful staff None
friendly staff clean an nice place to stay eveything during our stay was 100 percent
The apartment was well equiped and staff were helpful and friendly.
The front-desk staff were friendly and very helpful. The kitchen had a lot of utensils, etc., but lacked a kettle of any kind, electric or otherwise. That was the only thing I actually wanted it to have, so it was wasted space for me.
Hotel staff was perfectly friendly and professional. Room was very comfortable. Very good parking.
Very well planned room -even comfy sofa.We went prepared for supper making. There were enough pans although no sharp knife or board. We always travel in Spain with a small kettle, etc so did not miss tea/coffee facilities. We would stay again for the catering facility-a pity more hotels don't do it. Took us ages to get to the hotel even with a street map. Although it said that WIFI was available throughout this was not case - only in the reception area.Hair dryer only available if you went down to reception to get it. Although washing up liquid and dish sponge were provided there was no plug for the kitchen sink so water kept running away!!
the food theprice we would have liked tea facilities in our room but then we are english
Comfort , fast service, friendliness of staffand cleanliness. Individual iron and ironing board were not available
Very confortable and new. Staff were very kind and helpfull. Food was good and with variety. Internet wi-fi never worked in the room (in the opposite of what was announced in the web site).
Not much Bathroom smelt terrible, it was so bad that we decided not to have a shower in the morning and moved to another hotel. Location is right next to intercity bus station which is very noisy and it is not in an ideal location for the city attractions,
Very close to Plaza Mayor. Great location. Breakfast was ok but a bit simple. Nice room. Parking was a few streets over but was valet-parking so no need to try hair-raising parking which was nice.
Good sized room, very good location, very good value for the money. Strongly recommend. Nothing to say here!
Excellent location, spotlessly clean. Superb breakfast buffet No outlook. No control over temperature in room - boiling hot & air conditioning & fan had no effect. Told only option was to open window
Location was Great Cost of Breakfast, Staff not so friendly
Superb location for visiting Salamanca: a covered passage from the hotel door leads directly to Plaza Mayor. Room doors are poorly sound isolated: noise in the corridor is heard inside the room.
Fabulous location, right besides the Plaza Mayor.
great central location Not a four star hotel but clean good rooms.
Helpful staff. Great value for money breakfast. Help to locate garage with which hotel has discount agreement.
Very comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Very loud noise of bird scarer at night. However, sound insulation of room was very good.
The hotel was lovely. The Spanish are not in general very warm towards visitors, the staff was no exception but polite and attentive to my requests. The location is amazing, views lovely and I would stay there again if given the opportunity!
Breakfast was excellent. Room was quiet. Good location. No iron in room.
Location No breakfast included. Parking charge (15 euros)
The location near the historical centre, the room size and the exterior of the building The posture and lack of simpaty of the staff at the reception desk. The dificult acess to the hotel car parking and the expensive price of it.
For double room price we had junior suit with jacuzzi :)
I got a room with a great view of the San Sebastian Church. The hotel is very lovely and rooms are comfortable. The location is simply great! Must stay if you are at Salamanca.
The power of the AC was not very good , it took for ever to have a good temperature in the room. In any case we had a great time in the hotel. Thanks
The entrance and the foyer are beautiful! Despite of the hot weather, it was pleasently cool in the hotel - not freezing cold like they do it in some other countries. The rooms have a nice marble/wood floor and a high ceiling. The bathroom was big enough and very clean. It was a real four star hotel experience in a beautiful building. The terrace (where people smoke) is in the front of the hotel and the rooms on that side suffer from smoke coming in. Of course, it's only occasional, but it is annoying if you are not a smoker and you keep your window open in the morning. One other small thing is the church bells that ring every morning at 8 am, so not convinient for the late sleepers.
Freshly cooked breakfast
It was in the perfect location, very near plaza major. The room was spacious by european standards I have experienced in the past. Loved having a chair and loveseat so we could visit without sitting on the bed! The staff spoke very little english making it just a bit difficult but manageable.
The room was luxurious for the price, large space and included a couch and a small kitchen with refrigerator. The view was wonderful, looking through the old glass decorative bay. Historic breakfast room.
Hotel staff was so friendly and accomodating. Room was perfect - clean and comfortable. Location could not be beat - quiet but 1/2 block from Plaza Mayor. Breakfast - so much to choose from and the room is absolutely beautiful, with music playing in the background. You'll love it!
The staff was extremely helpful, would go out of their way. Excellent location, less than 2 minute walk to the Plaza Mayor. Nope, everything was excellent. Better than expected.
The location so near to the Plaza Mayor is excellent, and the staff were very helpful whenever we needed assistance.
Nice clean big rooms. the staff was fantastic, very eager to help. Location, right next to plaza and rua mayor was superb.
Enjoyed breakfast and overall ambience of a centrally located hotel. Value for money. Sofa bed not particularly comfortable in Room 13
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the location was incredibly convenient, just a hop, skip and jump from the Plaza Mayor. Very easy to go visit sites and come back to the hotel room for a rest. The rooms are large and spacious. Fairly quiet, considering how close to the Plaza and the student population. Everything was great with the exception of the bed, which was two singles rather than the double we had hoped for.
I had read previous reviews complaining about the staff. I have to say my stay was just about perfect, and the staff was a big part of this. As an American with minimal Spanish, they were extremely helpful, patient, and courteous. And they go above and beyond more than any staff I've seen in luxury American hotels. At one point I asked the lady at the front desk for towels. She raced up 2 flights of stairs to get them for me immediately...all with a smile. The gentleman at the front desk at night was also very courteous, as he had to let my girlfriend (now fiance) and I come in and out the front door during the late hours of clubbing. I should also mention the room was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was perfectly delicious!
Great location in old city NO NON-SMOKING ROOMS. TRYED 2 ROOMS WITH HEAVY CIGARETTE SMELL
Right next to the cathedral and walking distance to everywhere in Salamanca. Modern hotel with parking underneath. Quiet place. Understaffed. Pleasant people, but too few.
LocaTION is excellent Difficult to find using gps
The location, within the historical centre of Salamanca, could not be better. Also, the hotel is very recent, so everthing is looking nice. The air conditioning system is way too noisy, so it was difficult to sleep. I think we could not turn it down, which didn't help.
Excellent location of the hotel. There simply is no better place to start your exploration of all the beauties of Salamanca. We stayed three nights at the hotel in Salamanca and loved every moment of it.
Excellent hotel. In the middle of the old city. Fair prices but expensive parking place. Very gentile personnel.
Hotel location right alongside cathedral was perfect. Room was modern and spacious and contrasted wonderfully with old surrounding. Staff was professional and helpful. Value was terriffic. Not hotel's fault, but loud all-night revelers as this is a university town.
Beautiful room, so nicely designed and decorated -- felt like we were in an upscale apartment! You could access internet for free in the lobby, but there was no place to plug in or set a computer, and you had to keep putting in a new code every 30 minutes.
room is nice and clean. parking lot is small.
Beautiful room. Great Location Staff were not particularly friendly. Efficient but not especially friendly.
The facilities and grounds are amazing. The staff was also first class. Front entry driveway should be marked better. It really looks like a walkway.
From the moment you enter the hotel you are able to unwind aqnd know that you can relax in a beatutiful space with friendly and attentive staff. No, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here
an excellent hotel with superb accommodation, well located and very good staff.
We liked everything. Staff is very friendly and service minded. They provide parking service for free, so it is OK that parking is not available on site. Breakfast is great, room was huge (we got upgraded) and awesame! Great hotel for a romantic getaway with your own spa in the bathroom. Hotel is quite new so the spa/massage service was not available. No restaurant in the hotel. Not a big problem though since hotel is well located in the city, but it does limit the room service options.
New hotel, very good facilities, bose sound system in the room, very nice bathroom with jacuzi (little smal, but very nice!), drinks in minibar are included. Breakfast was superb!
good location, great service, beautiful place, good breakfast. did not get the room which was promised.
The rooms and common spaces are beatiful and extremely comfortable. You feel spoiled. Very relaxing, quiet and pleasant.Very well located also.
Everything was great. The staff was friendly and courteous. The food was delicous, and plentiful. The location was perfect! The only downfall is that the floors are all wood and the sound in the hallway seems to travel.
A true hacienda, carefully restored and perfectly designed as a hotel, with its atmosphere it takes you back to centuries ago, while combines that with luxury and modern facilities in a tranquil environment. The Hacienda provides an unforgettable experience of rural Spain. The breakfast was very good, and the service too. The staff also was very professional (they politely resolved a problem with conditions of accommodation). None. (The instructions for the localization should be followed carefully, otherwise it's not easy to find.)
The hoel was as advertised by Booking and more. More than a hotel this could very well be a destination in itself, with all the facilities available. Our room was very attractive with stone walls and floor and beamed ceiling and the bathroom quite modern, The breakfasts were good with some selections from the property. All in all, a welcome stopover on our trip. No complaints at all other than our difficulty in finding the right road out of Sallimanca as it seems it is poorly marked on the main highway that runs across the top of the city..
Wonderful Historical Hotel set in a 700 year old convent, now a wine producer so they give great tours of the wine cellars, a tasting etc. Olde Worlde hotel, lots of nice small touches to make the stay pleasurable. The breakfast was of very good quality, but spoiled somewhat as flies were in the dining room and around the uncovered food. Perhaps it was a one-off but being on the river more precaution should have been taken.
The location is superb, secluded and potentially vey quiet. The junior suite I was assigned was wonderful, with a great bed and a great view. Unbeknown to normal guests, the hotel is used for weddings. On a Saturday night we had trouble parking, moving around and having something for dinner. Loud music went on until 3:30 in the morning and so did the sound from doors slammed by hotel guests attending the wedding. QueThe structure is wonderful but not properly kept. I noticed an old fridge and other floating debris stuck where a small channel runs underneath the hotel, 10 meters from the concierge, and other debris in the park. In the bathroom (of a junior suite) I noticed humidity and overall its facilities were not up to the level expected for a 5-star hotel. The hotel is advretised as having a jacuzzi, but in fact this can be used only in conjunction with expensive treatments.
Very nice hotel, great area, very relaxing, very good food in the restaurant.
our 2nd stay, just as enjoyable and very good value.
Large and very quiet rooms. Good facilities for babies.
The room was lovely and the breakfast was high standard. The setting was fine with a gorgeous view of Salamanca. Sadly it spoiled for us for our stay in Madrid and we wish we had stayed at the parador in toledo.
was ok the location. is too far from city center. to avoid...
I was not disappointed by this high quality hotel. A request for under cover parking for a classic car was not complied with.
Excellent bathroom; view of cathedral amazing. An easy walk across the Roman bridge to the old town. Plenty of parking, easy to locate. Room looking a little tired.
Perfectly postioned to wander into town. Good car parking and easy access to motorways.Excellent room, food and service. Wonderful views of the Cathedral.
Its position overlooking the town and cathedral
We picked it for the location. There is a good 20 minute walk to the old city that should be considered.
Fantastic location, nice rooms and friendly staff.Great 21st celebrations for my daughter Alex and all the family. No telephone numbers in the gym enabling us to contact the reception.
Very high Standard and spacious family room. The restaurant is a 'must try', very delicious food. The breakfast does not reflect the standard of the hotel, and the coffeeis not the best. If the room are excellent value, a 12.50 Euro parking fee for a night and 4.50 Euro + VAT for internet access is quite an excess.
Brilliant view (we were given a corner room, with views over the cathedral, other churches). Very nice and large room. Front of hotel did not look like the impression given on the site
Location The airco was a bit noisy, car park places very narrow, places limited
Lovely spacious rooms close to all the attractions
Very convenient location, easy access to car park, easy to find, good breakfast.
Stunning setting, nice and inspiring surroundings and hotel itself imitating medieval design, while having all modern facilities, all this makes stay in hotel unforgettable!
Views were spectacular (at extra cost but worth it). Location was very convenient. Secure basement parking available. Staff could have been warmer. Hotel lacked a little atmosphere but may have been time of year. Parking was expensive and couldn't be pre-booked because of limited space.
The views. Steep parking fee!
Perfect location, beautiful view of the city, total comfort, very clean could be better lighting to read in bed
This was our second stay and we will definately stay here again.Convenience to the motorway for our trip to Santander. Evening meal is excellent value for money. Free wifi is great. Good breakfast
Very convenient location for access from the ring roads. Restaurant and bar comfortable. Excellent breakfast buffet - one of the best we've encountered and very good value.
Large rooms, free internet access (although not wireless) and secure car park available.
It was a comfortable stay and the rooms were typical of a 4 star hotel. The location was good. If you like shopping, there's lots of shops around. However, it was a 15 minute walk to Gran Via and Sol. Though it's right next to a metro station, so you can easily catch the metro down to the main hub. The concierge was not great. Out of 4 people we talked to on different occasions, only 1 was friendly and helpful.
parking available, clean room, reasonable breakfast buffet not within walking distance of city center (easy drive however if you have a car - however parking in the city was very crowded), set in a commercial area that was rather desolate on the weekend.
The hotel is very good, with nice instalations and nice staff. It was clean, confortable and with a nice view. It's a little far from the centre of the city, however, by car you take only 5/10 minutes.
After travelling on the fe ry from Porstmouth, which was really good, we stayed at Salamanca overnight before we set off for Chiclana. The best thing for us was THE most comfortable bed! It was SO comfortable and the pillows were SO soft I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud..........best night sleep EVER! Staff were really friendly, hotel was convenient for the motorway, dinner and breakfast excellent....what more can I say? Nothing!
the restaurant is expensive and there were a lot of flies in the dining room
Comfortable accomodation. Good and reasonable food in the restaurant. Friendly staff. Good and convenient for a overnight stay on journey to ferry port in Northern Spain No Complaints or criticism on any count
I travel from the ferry at Santander to the Algarve Portugal. The Montalvo is perfectly located for an overnight stay en route just off the main highway but very close to Salamanca. The restaurant facilities are excellent.
comfort and flexibility to change rooms
Old towels, dirty curtains
The location is very good only a few minutes walking from the centre. It is also well located to arrive by car. The hotel parking was expensive so we parked at another parking lot a few metres from the hotel and it was cheaper. The room is quite comfortable but nothing special. During the weekend the breakfast starts only at 9am and I thought it was too late.
Quiet room away from street. it was warm and comfortable at this time of year ,mid october Cost of secure car parking and poor breakfast.coach party eat everything and what was left was unappetising
atmosphere and small and local reception staff knew little english but then they are in Spain
Location is good.
Room comfort & cleanliness
Very efficient checking-in process. All staff were very helpful and thankfully spoke English. Good room and good location. No
Very friendly staff, convenient location. Horribly noisy.
An on site restaurant, reasonably priced. Also the sign on the hotel roof enabled us to find it. The directions on how to find it - we found this a common problem in trying to follow the directions given on the website. They are too reliant on road signs and street names which are absent or misleading. Also the maps have no scales on them. If you miss a turn you are history. Located in an area where there were no other eating places.
Friendly and helpful receptionists. Comfortable room with large tv screen which could be reprogrammed to receive English audio. Free wifi in the room via cable loaned by receptionist. Hotel was an easy, pleasant ten minute walk into Salamanca old town, over the Roman bridge. Waiting staff in breakfast room were efficient but unwelcoming.
Good location, 15 minutes walk across park and Roman Bridge to old city. Spacious, comfortable and quiet rooms. Pleasant and helpful desk staff.
Very nice and kindly staff.. The rooms small but very comfortable.. For me very important, big and very clean bathroom.. Everything was fine..
was 15 minutes to Plaza Major, very clean parking cost 9 euros/night, we could have parked on the street for free but the girl at the desk never mentioned it as an option, lots of cars where on the street all night
We had interconnecting rooms with our friends. The rooms were large, comfortable and immaculately clean. Wonderful double wash basin area plus large bathroom with bath and shower. Excellent in every way. It is farther to walk to the centre than indicated on the web site.
breakfasts were very good. a little far for walking back and forth into Salamanca, but otherwise location is ok
The hotel was of excellent quality and in an ideal place for walking into Salamanca. Unfortunately there was no swimming pool (but we knew that before we went) but it would have been nice as the weather was very hot.
Excellent location for walking into the town Disappointed in the food when we stayed. Our Main course was just meat and some salad from a bag, not what the menu described, and no English translations.
difficult to deal with front desk. poor air conditioning in rooms
The breakfast included in the hotel rate (what it is not normal in Spain). Availability of a private garage. Excelent location. Nice view of the city.
The location is excellent in that it is approached by modern streets as opposed to old narrow lanes and yet it is but a brief walk across the river to the old town. My room was very spacious and had a deep balcony which probably gives good shade in the summer. The breakfast was the best I've had at a hotel in Spain. The receptionist's English was not as good as some but much better than my Spanish. Free on street parking alongside the hotel seemed more or less guaranteed. My GPS got a little confused in the last 100 mtrs because the one way system seems to have been changed but the hotel was so close at that stage and I had the streets to myself so no problem. An excellent hotel. The heating came on in the evening and was too hot but the staff very quickly resolved the problem.
Good located, big room, clean. No music at the breakfats buffet.
Quality and value of the room. This was our 4th night at the hotel en route from Portugal. Access to the hotel and from the hotel in the city is v. good
The quietness Staff did not speak English very well
Good parking arrangements, good bed, spacious room, excellent breakfast for 7.5, pleasant obliging staff, easy and direct 10 minute walk to the Old Town.
Friendliness of staff and their care to ensure we enjoyed our stay We didn't want to leave!
Great location for walking into city, but easy in/out with car. Very well kept: staff pleasant/helpful but unobtrusive. Beautiful courtyard, but outdoor pool not yet open (Spring). Nothing!
Ideal location, short walk to town centre, quiet, clean and wonderfully helpful staff Nothing bad aboutthe place at all
Friendiliness of the staff
Plaza del Angel is right in the city center, it is only a few steps away from Plaza Mayor, which is great for the first time visitors to the city. The room was very comfortable, clean and very beautifully decorated. and the staff was very helpful!
It was a business meeting, but met friends there too. This was an ideal location for both purposes and the axcommodation was first class. The rooms were spotless every day: staff were very friendly. I would go back here at any opportunity without hesitation. Breakfast! Better value (and quality) to be had in local restaurants. Also it is a noisy location, near the student trail from Plaza Mayor to their favourite pubs & clubs. But this, in truth was a minor blip in an otherwise excellent stay.
i liked the friendly people and the ideal location, for sure a good hotel to recommend
Free parking for our car, right in the middle of Salamanca. The room was excellent, but quite small with virtually no place to store your luggage.
Great location within a block of Plaza Mayor plus the opportunity to park in front of the hotel for free if they have an open parking spot.
It is right next to Plaza Mayor, and it is an excellent value-for-money solution. Initially, the room we were given, and the one after that, were vividly smelling of cigarette, but the third one was great.
Well-positioned hotel in the centre of everything Lack of internet facilities in hotel - overseas travellers cannot bring their own computers yet need to check emails.Disruption from next-door building site is going to continue for some time as project only just starting.
very friendly staff, excellent location 100 m from Plaza Mayor very strong smell of cigarettes in the room, although I have asked for a no-smoking room. Noise at night (motor bikes etc.)
We did enjoy seeing the sites od the old part of Sevilla We had no sleep from 1030 pm until 530am kept awake by hordes of youngsters yelling, screaming and singing as they passed the hotel
Wireless. The Food
