Pros: It was very warm and very welcoming. I sat in front of a log fire with my husband and shared a delicious red wine recommended by the owner. It will remain one of my favourite memories of this gorgeous place. My dogs were over the moon with all this place to sniff ! The owners were very friendly and extremely helpful, inviting us to join them for lunch seeing as we were so poorly prepared for our getaway. I will definitely visit this place again as it felt like home.

Pros: The balcony off our room had a view over the village and olive trees- it was a delightful surprise

Pros: Great village location. Property was fantastic with a great fire, comfortable bed and good shower.
Cons: The only slight issue we had was that the property was advertised as having WiFi throughout when in fact it didn't work in the bedroom. It was fine everywhere else but this was a problem for me due to my business requirements and is something I make sure I have for all accomodation bookings.

Pros: We stayed at Casa do Balcao on Christmas Eve. In Portugal, Christmas Eve is spent with family sat by a fireplace. Margarida (the owner) was away on these dates and could not meet us. On Christmas day, we ended up making breakfast ourselves to allow the staff to stay home with their families. All in all, a great experience and would definitely come back!

9.3 Excellent
Pros: It is super clean, quiet and well maintained! Staff is exceptional. Breakfast is outstanding! We really loved this hotel!
Cons: The only thing that was difficult for me, but not my wife, was that is was close 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the air conditioning did not cool the room down to the point that comfortable for me. Don't let this stop you from booking, just be advised!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good value for money. The staff was nice.
Cons: A bit far from the city center, for a small town like Idanha. No restaurants at walking distance.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean, friendly staff, plenty of parking places, great for kids (dedicated outdoor space)

Pros: Very nice hotel. Bike friendly, storing our bikes in a garage. Excellent breakfast. No restaurant but Helena's restaurant in town was very good. Allowed us to check in early on a hot day so this was appreciated.
Cons: Having to buy a swimming cap to use the pool. Hence we didn't bother as we only wanted a quick dip. Seemed a strange rule.

Cons: room was dated
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the friendliness of the staff. The owner some Dutch
Cons: Well it is a very small City.. but we were visiting friends so no problem It was close to other big cities
7.0 Good
Pros: Located on the edge of town surrounded by a lot of trees and green. Parking is right out in front. The chap at reception was very pleasant and spoke good English and changed us to a better room immediately when our reserved room was found disappointing. Breakfast was good considering there were few people in the hotel, it being out of season.
Cons: The room was a triple and, according to Booking had 40 square meters. Without accusing anyone I would say that the dimensions couldn't have passed 20 sq. mts. The first bad impression was the ancient television, a generic brand CRT, which looked pathetic in such an otherwise nice hotel. Why would such a modern hotel keep such poor TV sets? Then came the cheap pillows that were worthless. You needed three to equal a normal pillow. The blanket kept in the closet was equally ancient, and not in a good way. It looked cheap and didn't warm you. Last but not least WIFI was also hit and miss, but this alone, if the other two problems had not occurred, would not have been crucial since a lot of hotels have this problem. It was sad to see such an otherwise attractive hotel, the best in the town, destroying their image with such cheap comfort options. In the long run, saving money by not replacing TVs or having cheap blankets and pillows is going to hurt the business.
6.8 Good
Cons: -alarm from a neighbour during 3 hours in the night ,impossible to sleep -breakfast very low quality -the first room was not Ok ,no light

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, very surprised after reading so many different reviews. Amazing location. Building needs some renovation but that's about it. Great value for money.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is good, the service is good, the rooms are clean and the beds quite comfortable.
Cons: The shared showers offer little privacy. If the hostel would be fuller, I would not feel comfortable showering with many people using the shared bathrooms.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nicely located. Friendly staff

Pros: The staff were really caring and super friendly
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was right in the heart of a beautiful old town, with spectacular views as Idanha da Nova is on top of a large hill. The service was great, and breakfast tasty. :D
Cons: Unfortunately, they didn't have heat for the first part of the night, and it was REALLY cold! But that's okay, this was apparently just a fluke, but we just happened to get caught in the middle of it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcoming staff, superclean proberty, nice terrace, good location
7.0 Good
Pros: Basic breakfast included. Clean room and bathroom. Free parking right in front of the hostel.
Cons: Staff could be friendlier and it had kind of a weird vibe to it (sorry, cannot nail the reason down).

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The landscape - the surroundings and the garden The orange juice - natural and sweet The family style of the house and the owner Nature, the animals around: birds, cows, crickets, frogs... and their sounds... and, of course, Notska, the dog.
Cons: There should be more tranquility for a place like this. In the afternoon, in the swimming-pool garden, there was a noise from a nearby field due to irrigation; people were playing snooker downstairs till midnight. They stopped when I asked them to, saying they didn’t know it was heard in the bedroom. Because of that I just fell asleep an hour later. You have to climb stairs to the bedroom so, if you have a suitcase, it isn’t easy. There should be some help for the luggage. There should be some cereals for breakfast. The bath towels weren’t soft. They prickle. The bed and pillows could be more comfortable. The bedroom is very hot and has no air circulation, you have to sleep with an open window.

Pros: The breakfest is good and the pool is nice
Cons: Small rooms, no shops in town, there is no place to eat in town, need to be very quiet in the night
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice rural location
Cons: It did not resemble the photographs especially the garden, also the "billiardroom" which was actually families TV and ironing room

Pros: Cheap and cheerful. I got a double room for the price I would expect to pay for a bed in a hostel. Don't expect mod cons for this price.

Cons: bed coyuld have been better but really good vlue for mioney and spotless would go back again and friendly people really goog stay
6.3 Good
Cons: reservation mentioned room with bathroom and there was none.
6.3 Good
Pros: the patio and old atmosphere. you are in a real old environment, just as in my childhood in the 70s. The ladies who clean are very kind. The couple who runs the place have answer very polite and diligent to my reclamation.
Cons: needs recognition of modern customers needs. specially to be a place to rest. needs reinvestment.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Close to the city
Cons: Besides the old furniture and bed sheet, the bathroom didin't even had a door. The walls were paper thin , you could hear everything from the hallaway and other rooms. The toilet had a textile instead of a window so I could hear everything from the reception. It was really hard to get a good sleep because I could hear a tv from the reception or other room until midnight. I know that is a good price, but I was hopping for at least a decent sleep. Also, it was freezing cold in the room and the blanket was too thin. The room looked different from the ones in the pictures.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The aircon, mattress okay, all linen supplied, maybe not new but everywhere clean. Slept fine. So ok for the price, but not as close to rail station as others which were fully booked.
Cons: I had read reviews so I wasn't expecting perfection and all mod cons. The whole place does need updating. The proprietors were cordial, not much communication, but to be fair my Portuguese is limited as is there English. It was an extremely hot day mid to late 30's (C), room was at top floor where you pass by the external parts of aircon system. Room key is ancient, only turns in an unusual position, took 10 mins to unlock. Room basic with a wasted huge wardrobe. The only window was in bathroom, but a view of concrete wall only. Beautiful wood flooring but tiles missing at foot of bed enroute to bathroom!! I would only use again if nothing else available, price befitting, but had cheaper, nearer station and more space and facilities. This accommodation is only over a kilometre from train station, the owner gave me the number and I pre-booked, but cost just under €7
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing. They put private bathroom but it's only a toilet no shower. Have to go out use common bathroom
Cons: The place is not a very convenient location for travelers. The place is clean but we are so shocked that this is being manage by a very old couple. They should have mentioned this as it makes a huge difference in service and the whole place smells so much strongly of medicine. The room we booked have a very old tv,no aircon just electric fan. The beds was so uncomfortable I have body pain whole night whole day next day. I suffered hips pain just becoz of this bed mattress. We have bites. I think dust mites. It was a long night. 30€ for a very old beds tv fan is not worth it.
4.3 Okay
Pros: Price and location.
Cons: Very poor corridor lighting, we needed to use torch on phone. Staff very unhelpful. Not able to even get coffee am let alone breakfast. Decor very tired and dated Bed very small and creaky. No parking on site, only street parking.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: It was the only place in the entire city that still had a room available so we had no other choice but to stay here - unless we wanted to drive elsewhere The wife was very nice and it was close to the garden.
Cons: Everything. The husband didn’t speak any English at all and seemed quite angry when he couldn’t find my reservation. Bed was like sleeping on a wooden plank. Sheets were practically see through they were so old. We slept with clothes on because we didn’t want to get into the bed.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Funky, friendly, not at all fancy but easily enjoyed, especially for the price.
