The staff was very accommodating, we checked in late, and they opened up the kitchen to get my wife and I some appetizers. The food is spectacular. Simple but amazing free breakfast and the dinner offerings are out of this world. Definitely fine dining at a great price. The town is a nice small town and the residents friendly. The room was dirty, stuffy and didn't smell good. There is no way to open a window and the room smelled like it was never aired out, despite the doors being kept open for rooms that aren't in use. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean, but the pillows smelled absolutely horrible. Even after wrapping a few shirts around the pillows, the smell crept through. There was also a larger spider in a web just above the bed. We didn't get much sleep.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat. The hotel staff was phenomenal. They were kind enough to upgrade us to what appears their best room. The on-site restaurant was great. The fact that a fabulous breakfast is free of charge with a nights stay makes it hard to resist. The Settlers Inn thinks of their customers comfort at every level. The mini kitchen at the end of the hall that accommodates guests so that they would be able to make tea or coffee at any time. They even had mints and chocolates out for guests.
I'm a big fan of history and the boutique experience. Hawley, PA is a historic little town that has let the rest of the world speed up while remaining quiet and simple; in a good way. The Belvedere captures that feeling perfectly. From the creaky stairs to the wonderful old photographs that hang throughout the hotel it is a step back in time. The restaurant downstairs is authentic Italian (complete with an absolutely gorgeous cadre of hostesses and servers) and serves made to order dishes with hearty portions and delicious sides. I came in to town for a local marathon and when I sign up next year I'll be staying at the Belvedere again.
It was close enough to where I had to be and while this hotel/restaurant was understaffed the employees were trying their very hardest. I don't think anyone at the hotel new that I had made a reservation. It took an hour and a half to check due the fact that there was one person Bartending/waiting tables/bussing tables/running food and checking in guests. The room was cheap enough but really dingy and It seemed that they cleaned it while i was waiting for my key. The owner needs to really consider how is staffing so close to holidays. His employees deserve much more.
