Pros: Charming period property set in rambling beautiful gardens and paddock with an added bonus of a swimming pool. My bicycle was safely stored in one of the large barns. My room was one of the largest I have ever experienced in a B&B and was extremely comfortable. It had a lovely homely feeling with a comfortable armchair with views of the front garden which I enjoyed in the late evening light after dinner. My room rate included breakfast, the only time in my 10day break and was, therefore very welcome and enjoyable. It was traditional French style, coffee, orange juice, artisan quatre-quart cake, crusty bread and preserves. My host was very welcoming and although she spoke little English we had good conversations both while I was relaxing in the swimming pool and over breakfast.
Pros: Large room
Cons: Unfriendly dogs when we cycled into the yard, barking, lunging at us, it took several minutes for the owner to remove them. Unpleasant smell in our room masked with a scent stick. We asked for breakfast at 8:00 and were told that was fine; at 8:00 the next morning we found a dark kitchen, called out several times, no one came. There was some bread, butter, jam, and juice set out ( from the night before?), we ate some of that. No hot drinks. Still no one up when we left 1/2 hour later.
Pros: Lovely host who was very patient and understanding of my poor French vocabulary. Gorgeous property, secluded from the main road by a mini-forest, but still in the center of Merdrignac. Access to the pool was fantastic on a hot day.
