10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a wonderful place to stay after a long day driving. This place is most certainly a little gem. The hosts were friendly and welcoming, the room lovely and the location was fabulous yet so close to the motorway. Breakfast was amazing and kept me going all day.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It’s charm and the wonderful hosts.
Cons: Having to leave.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. They made me feel like one of the family. Superb breakfast with home made yogurt, fruits from the garden and eggs from their own chickens.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful hosts and breakfast too.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome to this small and delightful B&B which has one bedroom with adjoining children’s room. Simply charming and attentive couple who fed and watered us really well. Had dinner in their quaint dining area full of lots of interesting chabby chic pieces they had up cycled. A plentiful meal comprising mainly pastry-based dishes with home grown vegetables and lots of cheese! Breakfast was a veritable feast of their eggs, home made jams and yoghurt and a tart which was wrapped up for us to take away as we couldnt eat it all. Lovely comfortable seating area outside the room with well tended garden area. Comfy bed, a fridge with water and a wide selection of teas/coffee. Even a microwave!
Cons: The main ventilation/lighting to the bedroom was the French doors. Perfectly safe to leave open - otherwise would be hot - but could be a problem in inclement weather. The shower arrangement was a detached shower hand-held whilst taking a shower- a bit clumsy and difficult. Would benefit from a screen of some sort so the shower could be attached and one wouldn’t have to worry about drenching the bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation is very comfortable with all sorts of interesting and unusual features. The hosts are super and very willing to communicate although they have little English. Their food is wonderful, genuine family food, much of it from their own garden. The terrace is a lovely place to sit and relax. The nearby Marais Poitevin is well worth a tour - by car, bicycle or boat!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly owners, pretty house and garden, lovely small village and a great location for a stopover on our journey south. Optional evening meal was absolutely superb as a treat, the owner is a very talented cook. Lovely breakfast too.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners were delightful and breakfast was excellent. Location is good for motorway
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The very friendly welcome, hospitality and good home cooking. Nothing was too much trouble.
Cons: Nothing, we have stayed 3 times and it is a perfect stop over en route to the ports from SW France to the UK.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was exquisite. It was delicious and so elegantly presented that it ranked among the best meals we have ever had. We arrived late on a rainy evening just in time for dinner but I can imagine that the room we had which opened onto the river would be just wonderful in warm weather.
Cons: I would have appreciated more good light in the bathroom. We were in room 8. Also a luggage rack would be nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful: by the river with parking on site. The evening meal was excellent and exceeded all expectations - one of the best gourmet meals I have ever had anywhere in the world. The tableware was beautiful and there was a good ambience in the dining room. A porch outside the reception afforded a peaceful and sheltered spot to relax. I look forward to returning to this haven of peace and quiet.
Cons: Nothing. All was perfect.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully presented and delicious evening meal.
Cons: Very expensive for what amounts to tiny portions! I ordered a vegetarian main course of vegetables which consisted of 2x sprouts, 2 x asparagus , 1x turnip and a couple of green leaves for €14!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice setting and excellent food - friendly staff and quite near the motorway
Cons: As an interior designer/architect I thought that the rooms would have benefited from being ‘a little more French’ in their design/furniture and fittings
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location by the river. Very nice room. Excellent food.
Cons: Poor lighting in the bathroom, a mirror in the bedroom would have been useful.
8.8 Excellent

Pros: Charming host, adorable dog, clean comfortable room, pretty gardens, excellent location

Pros: Everything was amazing including the ability to borrow a hose to wash our very muddy bikes. Homemade bread, yoghurt and jams for breakfast were delicious
10.0 Excellent
Pros: And so to Marans in the Vendée where we stayed in a chambre d'hôtes, Barbecane. The property was easy to find along a narrow road on the north bank of an arm of the Sevre Niortaise. We were warmly greeted by madame who showed us to our large ground floor room with shower and lobby room near the entrance to the property. We were also greeted by her friendly dog which, having examined us and our car - both must have smelt of our own dog that we'd kennelling for our holiday - promptly sat down near us while we had a refreshing beer. We had booked dinner in advance because we feared we might have arrived too late in Marans for local restaurants, especially as it was the end of the tourist season. For dinner at Barbecane we had a delicious farci charentais which was apparently based on a family recipe, followed by roast salmon and veg, and a carafe of local white charentais wine … finished with ice-cream. Our stay here for several days was most comfortable and welcoming with our host giving us a lot of helpful suggestions on restaurants and things to do.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent welcome and service, for us and our little dog. Great private space with our own outdoor terrace and space for Becky to run around. Good access to La Rochelle and other areas of interest. We felt looked after from the moment we arrived until our departure. Charlene is truly a super host. Thank you.
Cons: Would prefer duvet to blankets. Other than this, a perfect stay for us at a great price. Thank you.

Pros: Wonderful, helpful host, beautiful surroundings and Etienne the dog.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I can't recommend Barbecane highly enough. I have stayed here before, and will do so again. Charlene is warm, welcoming and very helpful. Lovely room with access to patio and garden, comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities provided in room also. Bathroom ensuite with shower gel, hairdryer etc. So convenient for town centre, restaurants. As usual Charlene provided a substatial breakfast, fresh bread from the oven, homemade confitures and great coffee.
Cons: Nothing not to like.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place to stay away from the hustle and bustle. We arrived late on our bikes after a long day on the road to a fantastic welcome from our host, He organised an evening meal with quiche and salad which went down a treat with local wine on the patio. Afterwards we walked thru some of the vineyards,The pool was excellent and we spent most of our time on the sunbeds. Excellent self service breakfast set us up for another day on the bikes in the french countryside.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean, smart, modern interior, free use of bikes, quiet, lovely views, friendly staff, free parking.
Cons: Breakfast overpriced for choice and quality available. Pool covered until 30 mins before we left, so unable to use. Staff could be more visible.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a charming property! Quiet and unassuming yet classy. We had a delightful overnight stay and the breakfast was delicious. We didn’t make use of the pool, but it looked very inviting in these sweltering temperatures of over 35 degrees. I would recommend this property unreservedly.
Cons: Nothing.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice looking building. No restaurant on site but excellent restaurant recommendation from the one member of staff
Cons: The hotel were recovering from a wedding party. There was furniture all over the place outside, they were still cleaning up from the wedding, only found one member of staff who appeared to also be the cleaner, receptionist and bar server. Outside furniture needs some TLC as the majority of it is broken. Advertised as having air con but not. Hair in complimentary shampoo dish. Also wanted to know if we wanted breakfast the following day - we like to decide late evening or in the morning but this was not an option. The pool also remained covered during our stay. No restaurant facilities so had to drive for evening meal - this needs to be made clearer on the booking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent place to stay even if the location is a little remote
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The setting and chateau building were beautiful. Room comfortable and cool. Bathrooms particularly impressive.
Cons: Nothing. Considering there was no restaurant we had a very good salad supper. The fruit salad for dessert was the only thing that was not good.

Pros: This place is a lovely hidden gem. It won't suite everyone if you are looking for a modern air con hotel type place... this is a very personal place which reflect the owners own tastes and backgrounds. The garden is also beatifully tended.
Cons: The loo and bathroom for the 1st floor room we had were on the ground floor. Not great for thoise late night trips...
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Hosts were really friendly and helpful. Lovely garden area and breakfast was in their lovely home. Need a car to get there but it was worth it.
Cons: The wifi didn’t really work in the room and it was not helpful having to go outside all the time to make contact with the network. No TV which is fine but bring a book.

Pros: A special place with lots of character and charm. Enjoyed a lovely meal on the first night with another family. The owners made us feel very welcome.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We have recently stayed at the L'Isle de Bourbon. Marc and Etienne were very welcoming. The room we stayed in had a private bathroom but not en-suite, the bathroom and wc were just down a corridor, which was no problem. It also had a lounge area where you could rest after a busy day. The gardens were beautiful and pleasant to sit in. A really good breakfast was served with fruit juice, yogurt and homemade jams and local breads.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very hospitable hosts. Accomodation was very private, more like a Gite but without the kitchen.
Cons: Shower was a little small, otherwise nothing disliked.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Marc and Etienne were the most welcoming hosts imaginable - nothing was too much trouble. Very peaceful area, good access to the river for kayaking.
Cons: Road noise early in the morning was a little loud - but it was harvest time, they have work to do. Otherwise beautifully quiet and relaxing.

5.2 Okay
Pros: Accommodation good standard, walking distance to pretty riverside restaurants.
Cons: Check in was horrendous, waited over 2 hours for the apartment to be ready. It appeared that those staying for a week or more were given priority. The receptionist said that check in was from 17.00 despite the information on the confirmation and their own literature available in the reception area saying 16.00, eventually got to the room at 18.30. The exterior stairs to our upper room were wet and dangerous, there were no warning signs and my elderly mother slipped and fell down several steps. Rubbish bins at entrance of site very smelly and give a very poor impression.
6.3 Good
Pros: staff were great, especially very helpful receptionist. accommodation was clean and well catered. unfortunately no restaurant or bar in the evening but the pool is lovely.

Cons: pretty much everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. Lovely bar
Cons: Nothing
5.0 Okay
Pros: Clean and beds comfy
Cons: No heating, was a cold night
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was ideal for our overnight stay.
Cons: When we booked in we were told that there was no restaurant available due to a private party, why were we not told of this beforehand. We went into town for food thinking we would have a nightcap in the bar before bed, when I asked the waiter for a drink I was told quite abruptly "No food, no bar, private party". We booked this hotel because of the restaurant and the bar, why were we not told this before our arrival.?. However when my wife, who can speak French, asked to speak to the owner/Manager a very pleasant waitress served us drinks. The main problem however was , because it was so hot and there is no means of cooling the room except to have the windows open, we were then subjected to loud music until gone 2AM. All in all I will not return to his hotel because if their lack of communication and there lack of care for their guests.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Basic but clean room. Good for travelling through the area
Cons: We booked this hotel as we wanted a place with a restaurant. That was closed. No staff around so eventually rang and was told on the phone that the main door was open and the key was in the door to the room. There was no restaurant nearby. Never saw any staff.

Cons: Their was no door on bathroom so not very private with children this was terrible. The toilet would not flush and apperared to be broken I wasnot able to let the staff know as it was very late. But, I am sure they would have fixed it.
7.5 Good
Pros: Acces,
Cons: Small rooms, no AC, no Fan. To close to the road, you have to chose between road noise or die from hot in the room
