When you stay at Château de la Chasse-Guerre in Hardanges, you'll be 14 minutes by car from Jublains Roman Village. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Words fail me - an enchanting rustic rural French B&B in an amazing location. The owners are fantastically friendly and helpful. The property is charming, an ongoing restoration project, and a genuine slice of history. Breakfast was terrific, all of the guests sitting together at the large dining table and enjoying the home made yoghurt, jams, honey, bread, rice pudding (yes - rice pudding for breakfast, excellent!) and lovely strong coffee. This is a great location for families. The owners have an amazing family room (for their children & grandchildren) that has quirky beds and is stuffed full of books, games and kid's toys. This is one B&B where you won't be constantly hovering over your children to make sure they don't break anything. Our children (9yrs and 11yrs) were delighted by the peacocks, the ruins, the moat, the cat (and the mouse it caught). We had our bikes with us, and spent a lovely time riding from the Chateau to a nearby village along the nearby cycle route (old railway track, flat & no traffic) for a bite of lunch,
Cons: The only thing we didn't like was having to leave. We can't wait for an excuse to come back!
Pros: The breakfast was excellent, Blandine provided home-made bread, jam and yoghourt as well as fresh fruit, it was all of highest quality and beautifully served. Blandine is a charming and energetic host who made us totally at home. She has interesting information about the Chateau and its past owners. The location is very peaceful and the old Chateau has a variety of architecture and remains from various periods, possibly even Roman although this remains to be established. The peacocks add to the ambience. For those who prefer to speak English Blandine's command of the language is exceptional.
Cons: Nothing, we would have stayed longer if it had been possible.
Pros: Such a friendly and welcoming host. Very pleasant company and went above and beyond your usual service to get up and make breakfast for me at 4.30 in the morning so I could make my ferry crossing in time. Such a tranquil setting. Great place to unwind.
Pros: The owners are totally charming, and the food far exceeded our expectations - almost everything was homemade, from locally sourced ingredients, and totally delicious. The raisin buns, still hot from the oven as part of the breakfast feast, will stay in my memory particularly.
Pros: We loved it! The hospitality of hosts was over the moon, very authentic castle which is 600 years old. There is a family of peacocks at the property, which gives it a little extra special feeling, home baked bread for breakfast, large library, charming living room with piano. So much better experience than chain hotels. A little gem in Normandie!
Cons: The only thing that was missing - lock on the door. Even though it is an old building with separate bedrooms and remote private location, you feel safe, I would feel better if I could lock the door.
Pros: Blandine and Daniel were amazing people we felt truly lucky to meet, your hospitality was absolutely amazing even lending us your car when we had a puncture, the amount of quality work you have got through during the renovation of the property is an inspiration to us all, the home cooking by Blandine and having evening dinner with our hosts was a fantastic experience, we will be back, Thanks
Pros: It was an amazing experience to stay in such a medieval chateau , the hospitality is outstanding and the food and wine sublime . We had a great nights sleep and the best freshest breakfast
Pros: This is an historic and interesting property sympathetically refurbished through the vision and determination our hosts Blondine and Daniel. Our room was comfortable and a good breakfast of local produce was included. The location was convenient for an overnight stop when traveling to the Chanel ports
Pros: The history, the hosts attention to detail and customer care.
Pros: If you don’t have a French grandmother, staying here will provide you with an exceptionally energetic one for the length of your stay. Wonderful people, wonderful food, wonderful place.
Pros: Hosts very welcoming and friendly. Homemade fruit spreads and yogurt.
Cons: The bathroom upstairs was a bit awkward to piece together.
Pros: excellent breakfast - mainly home-made
Pros: Very clean & comfortable.
Cons: No toilet in the room, just a shower & basin.
Pros: I wanted a place that was quiet but in easy reach of Le Mans, this accommodation met my expectations. The hosts were so helpful, friendly and accommodating. Breakfast times were flexible at my request and the home yogurt was superb
Cons: Be churlish to try and find something to 'moan' about. Exactly as advertised which is why I chose it in the first place.
Pros: This is a true and fine example of top quality and most relaxing stay in France. The hosts are both extremely warm and welcoming and it's just sheer luxury having lashings of hot water before the start of the day. The breakfasts are to die for....., home made preserves and freshly squeezed oranges...., what more could you ask ? The bed was so comfortable you could be forgiven for being late for breakfast ! The property is located right on the edge of town, just two minutes from the high street and offers all that is needed for a most relaxing and comfortable stay. I look forward to my return at this hotel and in my opinion would recommend anyone not to miss out ! Thank you for a truly relaxing stay !
Pros: The only reason it did not get a score of 10 is because it had no curtains on the windows, so i was awake at the crack of dawn. Otherwise a very lovely stay
Cons: Curtains on the windows
Pros: Lovely host, very helpful. We loved the house. Everything was great - room, bathroom, breakfast, area, and the ambience.
Pros: Lovely host, really good fun trying to communicate in our limited French & her limited English. Lovely clean room with a really nice shower. Lovely garden.
Cons: Probably the time of year, but at 21.00hrs, the town was absolutely dead. Nothing open and note a person in sight.
Pros: Absolutely everything ! ..., the owners are lovely people, the accommodation is outstanding and the fresh food was scrumptious. All you could ever ask for a perfect stay. Many thanks, john B.
Cons: The down side was having to leave............, looking forward to getting back soon !
Pros: The reception on arrival was so friendly. Everything possible was done to ensure my stay would be as pleasant as possible. The house is beautiful and the rooms well appointed. Breakfast in the lovely dining room was really good with fresh orange juice, yoghurt, homemade jams and more.
Cons: Nothing to do with the property but the only place in Villaines la Juhel that I could find to eat at in the evening was a pizza shop, although there are several eating places listed within a 10 mile radius.
Located in Villaines-la-Juhel, Les Brasinieres provides accommodation with a terrace and free WiFi. The property features garden views and is 33 km from Mayenne. A TV is provided. A continental breakfast is available daily at the bed and breakfast. Guests at Les Brasinieres can enjoy hiking nearby, or make the most of the garden. Bagnoles de l'Orne is 29 km from the accommodation, while Alençon is 32 km away.
Pros: Friendly welcome, following a long journey from SW France. Clean room with lovely ensuite facilities, good night's rest and good breakfast in the morning.
Cons: There were no facilities in the room to make a hot drink, during our stay.
Pros: hosts extreamly friendly helpful and accommodating, lovely assortment of animals that you are encouraged to visit , especially Maurice the dog, also the Pot au Lait museum is very interesting.
Cons: no complaints
Pros: The landscape was amazing and the family very nice. We loved the animals they had and the room was big as well as the bathroom. Lovely place. I would repeat.
Pros: The hosts were friendly and helpful especially with regard to one of us with a disability
Cons: Some problems with finding the entrance, partly due to wrong coordinates in the satnav but also due to misleading signs on the road (the coordinates in the website are correct)
Pros: Really lovely B&B with very pleasant hosts. The house is tastefully and stylishly decorated, with spacious rooms and excellent facilities. Tranquil rural setting - we had a quiet and comfortable night's sleep, followed by a delicious breakfast. Highly recommended.
With a stay at Oasis in Villaines-la-Juhel, you'll be 14 mi (22.6 km) from Jublains Roman Village and 13.7 mi (22 km) from Castle Lassay. Free self parking is available onsite.
Cons: Did not open til 5pm. Had to hang around for a couple of hours til then
Pros: Great helpful staff - good food and excellent beer
Pros: Nice old building
Cons: Very badly lit rooms
Pros: excellent breakfast selection. @Good food in the hotel on Wednesday nights only, otherwise the on site restaurant with a limited menu.
Cons: A sign for the hotel when approaching from the North would be a good idea for anyone unfamiliar with the location; signs only clear at the junction when coming from the South
Pros: The breakfast was very nice and a lot to choose from. The grounds were very well laid out and pleasant.
Pros: Lovely friendly hotel in rural village.
Pros: Family room was just right for our family of 5. Clean, comfy and convenient. Breakfast included local food. Staff helpful and friendly.
Cons: Layout of the breakfast bar is not very practical: people tend to obstruct each other.
Pros: Absolutely delicious, plenty of good quality food available, well laid out in beautiful surroundings.
Cons: Having to leave
Pros: Great stop off on a trip south, friendly clean and convenient!
Cons: All was good!
