This is a pleasant 2 star hotel right in the heart of Saint Jean de Monts. We were greeted by the owner/manager whose English is far better than my French. The hotel is 5 minutes from the superb beach and is one block away from the main shopping street. Car parking is just outside the hotel. Breakfast is plain and simple but fresh and well presented. Just one minor point - the automatic light switch might have the timer extended by about 30 seconds in order to reach the second floor from the ground floor.
The owners couple of the hotel is very friendly. The hotel furthermore is simple, staircase to all the rooms, (was there an elevator?) and very basic and quiet old fashioned rooms. The sandy beach is 200 meters walking. Just in front of the hotel is a public parking area, free of charge. The French style breakfast was friendly managed by the owners couple. The connecting rooms were simple. In one room (with twin beds) was a sink and in the other room (with double bed) was the bathroom with toilet. So the older kids had to pass the parents room always. It could be better when the beds are changed to the other room! The door between the connecting rooms could not be locked! So there is a lack of privacy. The toilet made a lot of noise ... poor neighbours!
The hotel is very central. The owner speaks good english and was very helpful. Parking was a bit of a problem. We ad to drive around for quite a while to find a space.
Convenient location, helpful owner. W-Fi available. Good value family rooms, linked. Public parking sometimes difficult to find space, breakfast times could start earlier than 8.30. Some noise at night, but it is a town centre location.
Friendly staff Expensive, poor breakfast
Absolutely nothing, except perhaps the room was clean We can only give the proprietor the benefit of the doubt and think we were given a room not normally occupied by guests especially as the room did not appear to have a telephone. It was the smallest most depressing room we had ever stayed in and although it did have a wardrobe this remained locked during our stay. We could, however, see through a gap in the door that there was neither a hanging rail or hangers, so we did not bother to unpack. In the bathroom the shower head would not stay attached to its fixture so had to be held by hand. We thought the hotel was very tired and in need of some major refurbishment.
The location is excellent and the staff was helpful. Great for the money we spent. The room was a bit dark and felt a bit musty, but then again, we weren't facing the street which might have made a difference.
Clean hotel, close to the beach Small bathroom, not too clean.
There was no indication the hotel was under renovation, which was surprising to see upon arrival and no mention of it at all. There was no advance mention of the renovation going on.
Very convenient for our short golfing break.Good value at Booking prices for single occupancy of our very comfortable rooms. We have been before and will hope to go again The menu in the restaurant was limited and more geared to curistes than golfers. However, I can appreciate that the majority of guests at this period are curistes
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel because of the position, near golf course and beach, not too near St J de M because in August the town is packed. no
The location is ideal for access to the forest and the adventures therein; plus restaraunt and other facilities of the town and the golf course. No problem parking. No a proper shower and no BBC World or CNN on the TV.
The staff knew the answers to all our questions and were friendly and helpful.
Staff were very helpfull and pleasent.Sheets and towels were clean Did not like anything very much decor was dark and depressing Very much in need of updating.
Easy to locate, friendly reception. Could not have a glass of wine or a beer without availing of restaurant.
The Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the hotel accepts dogs which is one reason it suited my needs and its a pleasant walk from town. Only that the decor bedspreads and curtains are getting just a little dated now and would benefit from a change but very clean and smelt nice.
sorry, my french!! non!
Clean, tidy hotel well located with pleasant, helpful staff
Reasonable price and included breakfast. Difficult to find by signposts from centre of town. Very noisy from about 5am especially on a hot night with all the windows open.
It had a lovely atmosphere
Fantastic restaurant for dinner. Food and service top notch. Room basic but clean and comfortable.
Location for town and beach very good. Rooms very clean.
Well situated, central yet quiet. Bedrooms of good size, clean and comfortable, though fairly basic. Dinner menus offer good choice and value; quality of food, especially seafood, excellent. Reception and check-out efficient, staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We would certainly stay here again.
Comfortable, warm, friendly, easy access to village, quiet, good restaurant......... Nothing
excellent location, very private, very relaxing
The room at the Robinson was pretty standard, not exceptional, it was what I would have expected for the price range. However the restaurant is exceptional and is reputed to be the best in the area. With the amount of full tables around us in the evening, this would certainly bear testament to its reputation. I would have prefered a duvet rather than blankets on the bed.
We spent three nights at the hotel, the rooms were very comfortable and clean and the staff very helpful, particularly accomodating an extra night that we had not booked. Excellent indoor pool. Good food in restaurant but a bit pricey to eat there every night
good facilities and restaurant
friendliness of staff
Beautiful grounds, quiet, good location for our requirements. Elegant dining room and bedroom No help offered with cases even though to get to our bedroom we had four flights of stairs. (the chatuea had no lift) No tea or coffee making facilities in room. The information via email was misleading regarding the number of evenings the chateau restaurant was open.
Charming old chateau in 17 ha of parkland including swimming pool and tennis courts. Well appointed dining room provides a good range of menus.
Location. Very Quiet. Big rooms tastefully furnished. Safe parking. Trusting Staff. Warning: a car is needed as you are in the middle of no where.
Tranquil venue, interesting buildings and a chance to relax. Excellent Gourmet dinners Could have supplied a more varied breakfast, with cereals. Also a hotel wanting to attract international visitors should have at least one TV channel in English. This is typical of France, whilst other countries have satellite TV with channels in English, Spanish, Italian, German, etc.; does not cost much but has high added value.
It was more than we expected!
The owner was there to welcome us and give us a full history of the Chateau which was very nice. The grounds were excellent and was a 'Bill Oddie' paradise. Cuisine was to a very high standard. Rooms were a little small for the price charged.
Fantastic building, need some investment to get back to its origin, Rooms very basic and service non existing, No lift, stiff stairs, Food at the restaurant fantastic, deserves to be a Michelin Restaurant but again waiters and staff are not at that level.
Beautiful building and grounds, excellent restaurant. Too expensive
nice surroundings bad wifi connection
The food was formidable! The bed caused me severe backache
the room was very good. The swimming pool was excellent. The hotel was easy to find.I would stay again if going that way.
Very quiet hotel - good soundproffing, nice little garden, altogether very pleasant
Friendly atmosphere with use of the covered swimming pool and tennis court. A bit pricey for the location.
Great rooms, excellent food and facilities, friendly staff
Very good hotel Rooms very well presented, and staff frendly and helpfull ...... we booked to stay another 7 days ..... Hope to go here again
Friendly atmosphere ideal location and the food was excellent. Avery quite pleasant stay No
The hotel is in a good location, back from the over-busy coastal strip. It is very calm, in spite of being on a main road. Our room was absolutely delightful, with a veranda overlooking a lily pond. The breakfast and hors d'oevres buffets were excellent. So near and yet so far. The couple who run the hotel just don't seem to want to make contact with the guests. He was in and out of the (rather characterless) restaurant all evening. Why didn't he, for example take the orders, thus adding a personal touch? And if the breakfast hot drink had been served personally, rather than having been in a pot for goodness knows how long, that would have provided a further opportunity for contact.
Lovely room, excellent restaurant, nice pool
the room was a surprise as it had a veranda. food was very good
Posirion and parking Food was the worst I had during three weeks in France
Room had Balcony Convenience for Beach,Shops etc. I understood on booking there was a Bath in the room, but I had to pay extra for this facility
welcoming very efficient and ecellent food and service
Very good location, very close to beach. Very reasonable rates
The staff were very helpful. I would have liked tea, coffee and water in the room and English style pillows because French ones are too thin.
the room was lovely very clean owners were very friendly and helpful the town and people were very appproachable lots going on during the day places to eat etc but pm very guiet lovely place to rest ,relax.
Attractiveness of our room, the gardens and the indoor lounge. Breakfasts were good value compared to other hotels used.
Happy staff, pool area, quiet but central location and map. None to speak of.
peace and quite
Very good standard accomodation, and excellent hosts Bed a little hard
The proprietors were totally charming and very helpful. We were given an upgrade on our room as we were staying four nights. Breakfasts were in a beautiful conservatory and were delicious. The rooms opened out onto a courtyard which trapped the sun, and the design of the gardens and the surroundings was artistic. Swallows and sand martins, and the church bells were the only music to be heard. A beautifully quiet and restful hotel, with a splendid restaurant next door, run by another branch of the family. Due to the weakness of the pound when we went, it turned out to be a lot more expensive than we had planned, as meals were £20 a head minimum and breakfasts at £8 seemed a bit steep.
food dog in restaurant. If staff/you touch dog then table/food !
it was clean, economical nice location convenient en route stop.
The swimming pool was a bonus. We stayed here because of the reputation of the restaurant and we were not disappointed. Best oysters we have ever tasted at a very reasonable price. Owners very pleasant. Our room outside was in need of a complete make over. Odd bedside lamps, faded pictures on the wall, curtain hook off the wall, rusty towel rail. We felt 74 euros was over priced for a double room of this standard.
The manager made us feel welcome from the moment we arrive, helped considerably by his great grasp of English (yes, I am one of those Brits who does not have a great grasp of French!). We ate in the restaurant a couple of nights but fended for ourselves for breakfast. This was not difficult as our room had a fridge for fresh juice and pastries which can be bought locally. The restaurant was very pleasant and the lady that ran it was again, very helpfull (ie. Had good level of spoken english!!). Our kids loved the pool and the resident cat and dog. All in all, we were very happy with our choice.
indoor swimming pool
friendly staff, nice pool and garden, quiet location, good restaurant
What a wonderful hotel. One of the best we stayed in on our tour. The proprietor could not have been more helpful and we had a lovely room near the pool which was warm and clean. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and not overpriced for the quality.
Excellent welcome from all staff. Room was great. Restaurant was outstanding. Pool was brilliant.
This place is a little gem of a find for a family holiday. Well located for beaches and exploring the area, but not prime location,so very reasonably priced. Welcoming hosts, where nothing is too much trouble. Easy access chalet style accomodation with a superb, well priced restaurant on site.
Very pleasant staff, good clean room, and very nice breakfast. Bed mattress was just a little too hard.
stay out of hotel everthing crap
Secure parking The wc was so small that it was difficult to close the door whilst using it. The artexed wall above the bath/shower had mould on it.
The bed No tea or coffe -making facilities in the room
Suited my purposes Nothing
It was siyuated in a very quiet road near the trees and away from lots of noise
Clean and five minutes from the beach. Room was very small - supposed to be a triple but barely enough room for the two of us. Only space for clothing was one wardrobe which had probably been around since the 1960s or earlier. General decor was poor.
Good location; near seafront but also beside the forest. Quiet. Good-sized bedroom (with a balcony) and bathroom.
