Located in Montpezat-sous-Bauzon, L'Auberge de Monpezat is in a rural location, within a 15-minute drive of Monts d'Ardèche Regional Nature Park and Camping Le Ventadour Ardeche. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The rooms were very spacious with large beds and very clean shower rooms. The bistro below was warm and welcoming. The menu reflected the location in that included rabbit and wild boar but brought up to date with a modern twist. The village is interesting and ancient in a mountainous region of the Ardeche. Julius Cesaer passed through it in February 52bc en route for the Auvergne.
Pros: Great location, with wonderful owners, one native English speaker. Superb restaurant (need to book!). Excellent breakfast. It is on the main road but our room was still very quiet.
Pros: The welcome was very friendly, great advice about where to park. Food was superb, some of the best we have eaten anywhere. Room was very comfortable, great shower, lovely views from the furnished balcony. As a couple we found it extremely comfortable and better than we would have anticipated. Will try to stay there another time. Food A plus
Cons: Nothing The drive was exciting, lots of bends and beautiful views. The Hotel perfect and staff excellent. AAAA PLUS
Pros: Great place. Fabulous people and the food was out of this world.
Pros: Lovely place! Alex the host was fabulous! Food was great in the restaurant! A bunch of organic options! Because I’m gluten free the chef prepared food especially for me! Alex helped with the wine selection! Fabulous wine list. In a beautiful part of France!
Cons: The shower room was very small.
Pros: The one man staff who served us was a very charming person. We felt completely at home.
Cons: The description of how many steps. I am partially disabled and the steps were difficult.
Set in a 16th century house, Domaine du Lac Ferrand sits in the Monts d’Ardèche Natural Regional Park, 3 km from the Vestide du Pal and Suc de Bauzon volcanoes. Offering exposed stone walls and wooden beams, the non-smoking guest rooms come with an en suite bathroom with free toiletries, hairdryer and bathtub. The suite also offers a seating area. A continental breakfast is served every morning. Hot and cold beverages can be enjoyed on site. A small supermarket and restaurants can be found 8 km away in Sant-Cirgues-en-Montagne. In winter, guests can go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing on site. Chavade Ski resort is 25 km away. Le-Puy-en-Velay Train Station is 65 km away, while Aubenas is 38 km away.
Pros: We had a very nice time in this exceptional place and a warm welcome from the owners. Great food and comfortable room specially in such a remote place. To be discovered with the kids, next time.
Pros: The perfect sport to hike and a very good and friendly host! Good food and Included breakfast!
Cons: The rooms under the roof have a very little window.
Pros: The best thing about this chambre d'hôte is its location - nestled up in the hills above the Ardèche. The drive up to the property is impressive and the place is a walker's paradise with trails leading directly from the grounds. The building is beautiful, particularly from the outside, and the hosts welcoming. The breakfast was fairly good and included bread, croissants, jam, fruit, yoghurt, children's cereals, juice (not freshly squeezed), cheese and meats and eggs that can be boiled. The bathroom was well equipped with a decent hairdryer and good water pressure although the bath only had a hand shower which could not be fixed to the wall.
Cons: Unfortunately, at Euros 123 per night, this place did not live up to expectations in terms of comfort or facilities. The room was a decent size but the bed and bedding uncomfortable and ill appointed. A foam mattress on a wooden slatted base led to a bad night's sleep. The bedding itself is not so much vintage chic as jumble sale remnants - a crumpled, badly fitted mix of dated sheets and blankets. The photo attached was taken before we had used the bed. It also got very cold in the small hours. There is no television or phone signal and wifi is patchy, and although this wasn't a problem for us, it's important to note in advance of a visit. The guest house does not have a bar or restaurant (although the hosts are happy to make local reservations) so it seems very strange that there is no provision at all for tea and coffee making facilities either in the room or in the unused seating area downstairs. Somewhere to make a late night or early morning hot drink would have been much appreciated, particularly at this price which is almost double the rate of other local guest houses and small hotels. While the hosts are happy to oblige with individual requests, this is not always convenient or timely. The interior decor of the place is at odds with the exterior - mainly dark colours and mismatched furniture, cheap looking polyester tablecloths, and synthetic ceilings. It felt as if everything had been bought from a closing down sale. It was a long way from the country house style that it appears to offer from the outside. I am not usually a harsh reviewer, but this place felt as if it was in desperate need of some real tlc and attention to detail, or a more realistic price band.
