Jen is a genuinely fabulous host we've never felt so welcome and relaxed. The little red cottage is truly a retreat from the world.
Cons: Nothing, should have booked for longer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very peaceful, beautiful location. Amazing set up,the most relaxing I have had the pleasure of experiencing. Hosts are the best, leave you to enjoy your stay but help you out however you need. Best stay, highly recommend!!!!
Cons: Nothing, everything was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An Idyllic Haven The Little Red Cottage isnt just another accommodation, it’s a beautiful holiday experience. We arrived to the warmest of welcomes by Jennie the owner who showed us around the cottage which we found to be absolutely adorable, quirky, fun and luxurious with stunning hillside views- particularly in a golden sunset. This was our 22nd accommodation during our 4 month tour around new Zealand and set a whole new standard, the bar just got higher! Not only is the cottage sumptuously comfortable with everything and more than we could possibly have needed with all amenities provided in the bathroom and kitchen but it was also all the lovely personal touches, welcome message, large fruit bowl, sweeties, lots of chopped logs and kindling for the fires, fresh flowers and the freedom to roam in the stunning gardens. We also had total privacy to enjoy our time there with a terrific sense of freedom, yet knowing that if we needed anything, the genuine offer of help was just a text message or short walk away. Each night we lit the fires and enjoyed a good long soak in the hot tub under the stars and by candle light whilst sipping wine, after which we went into the cosy cottage and slept blissfully well hearing nothing but the rustle of trees to send us off to sleep and in the morning birdsong. If we were out late in the evening Jennie told us to text and she would get the hot tub going for our return, nothing was too much trouble. The Little Red Cottage is unique, our only disappointment was that we only had three nights and would have liked at least twice that so to have more time just being at the cottage. The location is great set in beautiful countryside, far enough away from the noise of the towns but close enough to explore places of interest. Christchurch and Lincoln are nearby, fascinating Birdsongs Flat but we particularly fell in love with Akaroa making two visits, the drive is scenic and lots to do there.
Cons: There is nothing not to like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing welcome and made to feel like it was home away from home! Jen and John were both awesome hosts.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location and set up of the property is just perfect, it is so quiet and peaceful at the end of a road surrounded by farmland. What can I say though, everything was perfect, you could not ask for more. The hosts Jen and John were great, I would not find better hosts anywhere. It had everything you needed, even more, and the hot tub, a gem.
Cons: There was absolutely nothing to dislike.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stunning property/garden, very peaceful. Beautiful cottage with attention to detail. Great stay!

Pros: Friendly welcoming staff, comfortable bed, spacious bar.
Cons: Kids scooters scattered around at the entrance to upstairs (outside office) and skateboards propped up against walls upstairs. Just bought that professionalism down a notch. Not even a big issue.

Pros: We had expected a relic hotel which may have seen better days. Instead, the room was completely modernized with excellent quality materials and decor. The charm remained in the building’s structure and exterior design. It was located perfectly for us in a small town not far outside Christchurch, enabling a timely return of our rental car the next morning. The bar and restaurant downstairs was operated by a great duty manager and efficient, friendly staff. The food was delicious and there was a generous assortment of local beers and wines. It was popular with the locals and we had a great Saturday night with them, talking and enjoying the live band playing that night.
