7.0 Good
Pros: Hostess upon arrival lovely and enthusiastic. Hostess at breakfast a wonderful asset to the business - so polite, efficient and welcoming. Comprehensive breakfast. Comfortable bed.
Cons: Kettle in Boy’s room requires attention. Improvements to soundproofing necessary as noisy neighbours made for a disturbed night and plumbing noises from adjacent rooms were quite intrusive sadly.
10.0 Excellent

Overview Reviews
A stay at Ashbrook Bed and Breakfast places you in the heart of Bangor, a 3-minute drive from Bangor University and 7 minutes from Menai Bridge. Featured amenities include luggage storage and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We were attending a funeral, so needed somewhere for a couple of nights. This is in a very quiet location (the only noise was from an owl!), about a mile from Bangor town centre. The property has been done up to a high standard and the rooms had good facilities. Breakfast was very good.
Cons: The weather!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was fantastic and the bed super comfy with a great shower & superb views. It was a great location just a short drive from Menai Bridge were we found lots of nice pubs/restaurants, in particular the Bridge pub went there twice for lunch & Sunday dinner. Bangor Tandoori was also fantastic. The breakfast at Ashbrook was amazing with fresh fruit, cereal & yoghurt followed by a freshly cooked tasty breakfast, the receptionist Zack also let us check in an hour early and check out half an hour later, all in all a fantastic stay it was only for one night to visit my son.
Cons: Only a small criticism but there was no free snacks/biscuits in the room to have with your cup of tea, only ones you could purchase. For such a lovely place I would have expected this to be included.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spotlessly clean, beautiful modern decor, perfect location, excellent service from staff, delicious breakfast. The room was immaculate with so many little extras, also offered a mini bar with snacks/wines at very reasonable prices. Cant praise enough, are planning our return trip.
Cons: Nothing, the best B&B we have ever stayed in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Was a very comfortable relaxed place , very clean , lovely breakfast overall very good stay !
6.3 Good
Pros: The staff were accommodating and friendly but I didn't get a sense of who the owners of the hotel were and it was impersonal.
Cons: Given that the room was described as luxury, I found it very disappointing in this respect. It was spacious but the bed linen seemed dated (foam filled mattress and pillows) and the decor tired. The walk in cupboard seemed odd. This certainly was not 4* accommodation. The hotel was also quite far out of the centre of Bangor meaning that I had to pay quite a lot for taxis. There was no proper reception area and because of the lighting, it always looked as if it was in darkness and was not welcoming, especially at night. It bore no comparison to other 4* accommodation that I have stayed in.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds, nice breakfast, and staff were lovely.
Cons: The cups in the room and at breakfast were dirty.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable and fantastic breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds were extremely comfy. Sleep was blissful.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location for local walks, single bedroom cabin was superb, will be back!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely little cottage. Very good kitchen and comfortable sitting area. Good heating too which was important during such a cold week. There’s a private garden and a bbq which we didn’t use. The view is exceptional. A light broke during our stay and our host fixed it immediately. The cottage was the perfect size for us and we really loved our stay.
Cons: The showerhead won’t stay in place so you have to hold it while showering which is a bit annoying. The beds were comfortable but the mattresses are quite soft which was not ideal for our backs, but probably fine if you don’t have back issues.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming Beautiful location
Cons: Sofa bed a bit uncomfortable

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Elaine was very welcoming and gave us an interesting history of the beautiful house. It was very peaceful and relaxing with fabulous views of the well-kept garden, the Menai Straits and the Brittania Bridge. The decor was very tasteful throughout and the room was well stocked with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and Elaine brought us fresh milk!! The shower room was nice and clean plus the shower was quite large with lots of different jets for a variety of sprays and shower heads for those that fancy a real power shower. Elaine's homemade muesli was truly delicious and nourishing also Geoff's cooked breakfast was well-cooked with fresh, decent produce. It was just perfect for a relaxing stay after a very stressful time.
Cons: Nothing!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: very good selection
Cons: nothingw
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view, cozy but large room with queen size bed, good choice for breakfast.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A great location, welcoming hostess and nice facilities. The fully inclusive breakfast is brilliant but for some reason costs £1 extra if you want a very small kipper on the side which was a shame given room prices.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a bit like being welcomed by an old friend. The home is beautiful and within easy walking distance of town and the water. Breakfast was more generous than we needed. Good parking too.
Cons: Wish we could have found the DVD storage - but that was quite minor!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice people, very clean and very organised. The little things made the difference, your own breakfast table, choice of 3 breakfast times, kit Kat, sweets and mints in the room, fresh milk in the room. Own parking bay. They even clean the jam jar after it has been used. Impressive.
Cons: More of a selection on the self serve aspect of the breakfast would have been good like fresh fruit, yogurts and seeded wholemeal bread would have been nice.
Yha Idwal Cottage - Hostel - Bangor - Building
11
9.3 Excellent (208 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at YHA Idwal Cottage - Hostel in Bangor, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Zip World Penrhyn Quarry and Swallow Falls. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Damien, the staff at the reception, is really thoughtful and nice. Because I was here alone, he'd always check on me to make sure that I'm doing fine. He would share with me plenty of information about the usual hiking routes, suggested alternatives, and even borrowed me some books on it. He even loaned me a map when he knew that I did not have one. Excellent customer service from him. The location of the accommodation may not be the closest to Snowdon, but it has so much more to offer. Not only surrounded by scenic mountain views, Llyn Ogwen is located less than 5 mins away, and the entrance to the start of the Devil's kitchen route is right round the corner. Attached pictures are spots reachable within 5 mins walk from YHA Idwal Cottage.
Cons: It is not the most accessible place if you do not plan on driving. Bus 6 only comes to/leaves from YHA Idwal Cottage from/to Bangor once a day. If you wish to hike Snowdon, the bus to Pen y Pass (starting point for Miner's and PYG track) only comes twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. If you do not drive and plan to only hike Snowdon during your stay in Snowdonia, this may not be the best choice for you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, amazing views, brilliant staff
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location of course was perfect. Right outside the doors if the hostel are the trail heads for some of the most beautiful mountain hikes you can find. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The kitchen is well stocked and organized. There is plenty of room in the dining area and lounge for relaxing.
Cons: It's a hostel of course so you accept that the beds are bunk cots. It was all very nice but whenever people come and go during the night to their rooms and restrooms there is a lot of door banging. It is principally the fire doors that bounce. The second night there were not many guests so it was quieter
5.8 Okay
Pros: Easy to find
Cons: Weird, not fun like the other YHA. Felt uncomfortable compared with Brynt Gywant
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location, free parking. Had everything we needed.
Cons: A bit quiet in the evening.
7.9 Good
Pros: Typical cottage - nice kitchen, typical for cottage, hostels, nice and very clean rooms, showers, very friendly staff - great place to stay for one, two nights if you are going through
Cons: Main issue - no wifi and no mobile phones signal - being there you are cut off from the world - it's ok when you want to stay away from technology but when you travel to work and you need to stay connected it's really pity
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent if you like to wake up and go straight for a walk which we did. The staff were friendly and the room was clean and freshly made up. The children loved the communal room and pool table and the kitchen facilities were very good. We will definitely recommend and almost certain to use this hostel again!
Cons: I arrived at about 4pm and as such I couldn't check in as staff didn't arrive until 5pm. This was not a problem and with more research I would have know this but it would be nice to have someone present throughout the day.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The main needs required for a nights accommodation were in good order. Trev was a great host and was very helpful when I arrived a bit late. The location is good if you are visiting the Colwyn Bay Area. The parking was good but there was also a bus stop over the road.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet despite a busy restaurant and bar downstairs. The lunch when we arrived and the breakfast the next day was quick to arrive and of excellent quality.
Cons: Our only small problem was that despite smelling clean and fresh our towels were still ever so slightly damp. We guessed they had probably been taken from the drier too early.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly excellent food rooms were welcoming and so comfortable would definitely go again owner was delightful a great find and easy commute to Bangor a quiet location which was magnificent
Cons: Liked everything
6.7 Good
Pros: Convenient for where we were headed
Cons: Bathroom in desperate need of renovation. Mould on seals and ceiling and shower head old and inefficient.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely small hotel in a fab location. The room was cosy and enjoyed our stay. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was good food but service was a little hit and miss. We were advised to book but only had space at 5.30 even though the restaurant was pretty much empty by the time we left so not sure why that was. Breakfast was also really nice, but there was things missing from our breakfast and had to wait. We’d finished the rest of our breakfast before the roast arrived which was a little annoying. Staff were all really friendly.
Cons: Bathroom was dated.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was fantastic and the hostess couldn't do enough for us. I do feel it was slightly pricey for the location and the fact that another member of our party paid slighlty less for the same room was annoying but still overall it was a great stay in a great little hotel.
Cons: pricing of the rooms compared to others who were staying with us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable room. Excellent food. Friendly staff.
Cons: Nothing

2.0 Mediocre
Pros: The staff were excellent-all polite and very helpful. You are very lucky to have such a dedicated team
Cons: The lack of heating - room was very cold. Bedding not big enough for the bed - had to use the bath towels as a “blanket!” The bathroom had no heat at all and was very shoddy - bath sides cracked and coming away from side of bath. Mould on floor along edge of bath. Carpet at bathroom doorway was black and soaking wet. Toilet cistern constantly ran water into the toilet bowl. Only one hand towel for two people. I would have complained at reception before I left but despite waiting for ten minutes and ringing the service bell no one was there except the cleaner who said that no one was on duty and I could just leave the room fob on the desk.
9.2 Excellent
