Food was great. Margaritas were great! Service was a little off. She was always a few steps behind. Plus, if you're going to make a policy of not carrying a popular mixer, TONIC WATER, then the staff should be able to articulate the reasoning behind it... not state, 'it's just something that we do'. Tonic water is pretty darn popular and to not carry it when you have a full bar is making a statement... make sure staff knows that statement.

We arrived 10 min. earlier than our reservations and had to wait 45 min. after our reservation time. The manager made it up to us with on the house appetizers and drinks and the staff bent over backwards in their attentiveness. Not their fault the large table we were waiting for spent an abnormally long time chatting after their meal was finished. The food was definitely worth the wait. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and most likely will as just thinking about those blue corn tortillas with spicy black bean appetizer is making me crave another meal there now.

Had a really nice meal at Broken Spanish. They recommend ordering a lot of small plates family style and our waiter offered to pick dishes for us. He did a great job. We got a good amount of food and everything was tasty. Had some good cocktails as well.

Generally a nice outing. Food was good, albeit quite spicy. Little warning about the heat -- and we like spicy food. The menu/chef tries a little too hard to be exotic. Very loud environment, which made conversing tough. Service was consistent.

Great food! We had been concerned because we heard the food could be a bit strange here, but it was fabulous. Best tamale I have ever had. The carne asada had the most tender and well-seasoned steak ever. The large shrimp was also very well seasoned. For a lot of restaurants, the entree can be great but then they fall down on the desserts, but the dessert was fabulous: lemon curb with berries, and a chocolate ganache that was incredible. The cocktail, with bourbon and toasted pecan bitters, was great. Our new favorite Latin restaurant!

Went to Broken Spanish for the first time for a Valentine's weekend date. The decor was nice and homey, and we were excited to try the food. The food was delicious, and I would kill to have their mushrooms or their endive tamales again, unfortunately we will probably never go back. \n\nThe service was awful. And it being 6:30 at night it was moderately, but not insanely busy. Our waiter seemed annoyed by any question we asked about the food, angry when he was bringing food or drinks to us, and angry to bring us a second drink. And honestly its understandable if someone is having a bad day, I am willing to give some grace, but he really seemed irritated by any interaction we had. And to cap it off I would watch as he went to serve the other table (a larger table)right next to us and he would smile or joke with them.\n\nSo maybe we pissed him off by being sat in his area or by asking about the food-- no idea, but all in all the taste of delicious food is not worth feeling like you shouldn't be there.

We were disappointed in the restaurant. Both of us are foodies, so we do not mind paying for a good meal. Howevwr, the pricepoint for this place is too.excessive for what you get. Also we had a reservation but were seated at the high top tables which were not only uncomfortable but also so close to other couples there really isn't any privacy. Some of thr dishes we had were good, but the pricepoint did seem excessive for what you actually were served. Also our service was fairly poor.

Maybe I missed the point, but all four of us were underwhelmed at best after dinner here. Food was WAY too pretentious for a meal of, (as the waiter described it), 'food that Chef's grandmother served around her table'. Save me the lecture on the things you can't do for me, & spend some time focusing on serving food designed to be hot......hot. For the price point of this restaurant, I'd prefer to see my waiter in clean clothes and my martini dirty, not the other way around.

The food here was amazing. The dishes have a traditional base however they are embellished upon in ways that only enhance the taste, texture and presentation. The chef did a great job breaking down and reconstituting la cocina mexicana (taking apart the best ingredients and putting them altogether in novel ways). Culinary adventure, indeed. The barista also did this very well. The wine we did not like. The tamal, tostada, among others were great. \n\nWhat was terrible was the ambiance. Loud and uncomfortable. The physical layout of the restaurant has to be reconsidered as radically as the cuisine. \n\nMaybe lunch would be fine; for a date on Friday night date I don't recommend it.

The food as to be expected was fantastic. I had the tasting menu, each plate was an experience with portions the size of a regular entree. Lots of amazing food. Eat less bread to save room if you are going for the tasting menu. However, the wait time with a reservation and lack of empathy by the host put a sour note in my experience. It robbed me of what could have been another fantabulous experience at a Jose Andres restaurant

The food was good, but not spectacular, which is what the price would suggest. We had tamales, carne asada, duck, quesadilla, tortillas and retried lentils. The spicy margarita we ordered off menu was very good. Our biggest problem was we were in an indoor patio area on a cold night and it was VERY COLD in the room with a breeze coming from a 6 inch opening in the slider that the waiter insisted was closed. We were able to move farther from the breeze and closer to a space heater (yes tiny floor space heater), but we all needed our jackets on throughout dinner. The noise level was very high. Just expected more.

Had read about this restaurant a while ago and was pleased that I remembered the article when I was visiting Los Angeles recently. Really enjoyed the meal there and shared a couple of unusual dishes with my sister - didn't have room to try the tamales, which was the reason I wanted to visit! We tried a lovely braised rabbit and some lamb carnitas along with their signature house made tortillas. Very tasty - spicy without burning one's face off, and lovely service as well.

Broken Spanish has become one of my favorite restaurants in LA (if not the world). Chef Garcia has transformed traditional mexican food into dishes that make you re-think what you know about these flavors. The techniques, ingredients, and flavor combinations keep me coming back to explore more and more of the menu.\n\nAlso, must be said, while the kitchen is killing it, the front of the house team is spectacular. Accommodating, educating, friendly and really knowledgable. Every time I come hear I enjoy the people as much as the food.\n\nGreat team, great space, great chef, great food. Loved our food, cocktails, and experience. Negative was the add'l charge on our receipt for health insurance. Staff should absolutely have benefits but why put that on the customer to decide? That's management's job to take care of employees. Raise prices $0.30 and that'll take care of insurance. We're there to enjoy dinner and have a nice night out, not be forced to make healthcare decisions or be guilted in to providing benefits for your employees. Charge appropriate prices to be able to take care of your people. The servers don't like having to explain it to patrons either. Very tacky and uncomfortable ending to an otherwise lovely night.

We tried three different cocktails, and they were all great. Standouts were the chili relleno and spinach tamale and the abuelas hot chocolate cake. The half duck in mole was tasty and tender, but extremely difficult to eat--would be nice if they offered to carve it for you, to preserve the presentation, or carve it for you in advance, because it was a lot of work to often end up with huge chunks of fat and bone.

There is a good atmosphere left over from when the restaurant was Rivera. I think the bar is the same, and they added different seating configurations. They should have put in a new toilet, and there was a hole in the mirror in the bathroom with wires sticking out of it. Overall, the bathroom was dogeared. I think they tried to save $ on a full remodel, which is understandable. The food was good, but there were many dishes that had dairy in them. I had an awesome tamale, but it was $16 for one, and I didn't think it was worth $32 to eat two of them. The whole trick with these 'small plates' is that they are entree prices, but you are ordering multiple, which jacks up the bill considerably before you have two entree priced cocktails. I like the idea of upscale Mexican/fusion, if that's what it is; and the staff were on point. BUT, there are too many other choices out there, and for me to back to the same place again, and pay a certain price point, it has to knock my socks off.

Even though BS is not exactly a newly opened restaurant, it felt like a place still working out the service kinks, even though we were there for a 5:45 PM rez. When water was not presented, asked for it as I arrived thirsty. After drink orders came and food was ordered, asked again. Later made eye contact with waitress, who came over to say I'll get you water, showing that she remembered and noticed, but still nothing. Food came. Flagged a busboy, who like the somm and waitress, were extremely personable and seemingly highly trained to customer attentiveness, but he was the one who immediately took care of us and made sure glasses were refilled from there on out.\nPulpo, quesadilla, and relleno were all excellent. The chicharron which I was looking forward to after reading many reviews, was disappointing. Skin was not crisp, just rubbery, and the fat in the body of the dish was not rendered enough to be palatable. When you end up spitting out more than 50% of your main course, it's disappointing, on top of this being my choice for my birthday dinner which was kind of a bummer. I was hungry by the time I got home.\nI've liked what the chef did at Fig, and look forward to trying BS Taqueria, and will return here again to see if this was just an anomaly.

Get it with tortilla, ask for some salsa or tomatillo and enjoy. \nThis is a great spot for dinner before a show or game. The ambiance is open and fun, great to people watch. It not only didn't disappoint, but really wowed me -- from the warm, generous greeting I received upon arrival to the outstanding meal, to the meticulous, yet unstuffy service. It is a shame as I believe the food may be tasty but to have absolutely no food made without very hot spice, is a first for me. \nI love flavorful foods and have eaten in literally hundreds of restaurants of all types of cuisines and have never experienced a menu that had not one dish that was edible for me.\n\nWe were served what they called a cheese taco, to accommodate us, but this consisted of a corn tortilla and Mexican cheese and nothing else. My companion and I were drawn to this restaurant due to the availability of vegan options and range of distinct Mexican food choices. The service was wonderful, including the server and bartender serving a jicama / grapefruit / lime juice drink for my companion that was wonderful. The chipotle-sprinkled drink I had was delicious, and nicely chilled with ice, but some definite spice kick that can be unexpected for an alcoholic drink. The refried lentils and blue corn tortillas were a nice alternative to the more common refried (pinto) beans that are a general staple. Even more spicy were the entrees. I had the lamb--very tasty, but definitely not for the spice-shy. (It took me a bit longer to finish this dish, because I could only eat a bit at a time.) Even my companion, a Hispanic with fondness for Cuban and Puerto Rican dishes, found some of her dish a bit of a spice challenge. Good, hot, but near the edge of 'too much heat to taste the other elements beneath'. However, a wonderful and non-standard option just a short walk from the brightness of LA Live.

We enjoyed a good sampling of the menu and everything was delicious! We had the lamb neck tamale, oxtail quesadilla, a nice salad of sidewalk greens and many of their delicious tortillas. One disappointment was the rabbit. I was so excited to see it on the menu. It was presented beautifully wrapped in some kind of pouch but the predominant flavor was a smokey bacon. When stuffed into the tasty tortilla the taste was good but taste was more bacon than rabbit.

We dined here one day after the official opening. I had expected some hiccups. There were none. \nThe food, service and ambiance was flawless. Joe was our server and suggested several memorable dishes. \nWe loved most of them . I probably wouldn't order the shrimp dish again as I thought the portion size was too small for the cost. With that exception, pricing was more than fair. \nSuggest you try this location soon as reservations will inevitably get hard to get. This is a very special dining experience and we have already reserved another evening.

Really beautiful experience in dining. I prefer to sit at the counter, its quieter there and you can watch the chefs at work. Be experimental when you dine. The first time u visited I was with a friend who is very conservative and I felt we missed out on the essence of experience. This weekend I returned and had dick hearts, blood sausage and the lamb head paired with cocktails and wine . It was fantastic.

This newcomer is worth the trip to the neighborhood and easily its standout. The food is dazzling, delicious and very satiating, with a constant, well blended kick of spice. Drinks are in the hands of very capable and engaged bartenders who can make a straight up margarita as well as a creative concoction. Our server Luis was an excellent guide, maneuvering us through the menu and steering us toward the right amount of food and the right dishes. Impressive, festive find. Go.

We originally intended to eat at Rivera. When we made the reservation through Rivera's website, we did not know that Rivera had closed and was bought and reopened as Broken Spanish. When the reservation was confirmed it said Broken Spanish, but we assumed that was a 'subname' of Rivera. Having eaten at Rivera and liked the food, we expected the same. When the manager called to confirm the reservation the day of, that was the first time we realized that the restaurant changed. We still decided to give it a try after she said the food was great. We arrived at the restaurant and sat down. Our drinks took a long time to arrive and then we sent back one of the drinks. The replacement drink was equally bad and it wasn't until the third drink that it was acceptable, a good 30 mins later. The menu is strange and eclectic and didn't appeal to any of the four of us..but we did the best we could. Much of the food was not good, a couple items were tasty. Our waiter was quite rude and condescending. The service was very slow. The only highlight was Danielle, the manager. She was amazing, charming, caring and probably too well suited for a restaurant that is likely to not survive.

The food overall was very hit or miss. The chile relleno, fish in a pot with cheese, etc. (forgot the exact name of dish), corn tortillas, and tamale were delicious. The scallop ceviche with cucumber was too fishy and bland and a shredded cabbage dish with pork bits in it was inedible. The noise level was intolerable as there was an all-guys celebration going on nearby. This obviously wasn't the restaurants fault. We just got unlucky that we were seated in the same room not far from them. The worst part was the parking. We stayed over the two hour limit so the valet parking cost $20 which just capped the evening since we just blew a lot of money on a so-so dinner.

Food is wonderful. Unfortunately they kept us waiting 45 minutes for a table. Said they would make it up to us with snacks waiting on the table and when we sat down one small appetizer was brought out ten minutes after we were seated. 15 minutes went by, no waiter came with water or to take a drink order. We had to flag down the hostess to get our waiter. After the late table, poor svc more should have been offered than one tiny appetizer-our one round of drinks should have been paid for the desserts covered. As great as the food is, the service is reason not to return.

Came here on a Saturday night for a party of two and they were busy. We got seated but it took forever for our Server to come to our table. And when he did arrive, he took our drink orders. But that too took time. And the time between the drink order served to our table until he came back to take our order was unacceptable. Good thing we were not in a rush. The restaurant and bar were busy but you have to pay attention to your customers. \n\nThe other con we had was the place was way too loud. With a party of two on a busy Saturday night, we had to speak loudly to hear each other across that table.\n\nOtherwise, the food, cocktails, and wine list was good. If you love Tamales, order it. The shrimp on the other hand wasn't what we expected - it was one big prawn split in half. There wasn't much there. The cocktails, we ordered a couple, were mixed well and tasted good. Their wine selection was pretty decent as well - I totally did not expect that.\n\nThis is a small plates-family style-share all restaurant. Order a few plates, enjoy the food and drinks, and expect to take your time.

Creative, innovative menu made it difficult to make a selection but every item we tried was exquisite. While I do not recall the names we had a half duck with a divine mole, and a chili relleno and lamb tamale unlike any other we have ever had. A tostada made with chickpeas was light as a cloud and absolutely heavenly. Gnocchi like masa dumplings were served with a perfectly seasoned broth. Normally we would share a single dessert, but the menu was so intriguing we decided to splurge and try 3, a chili spiked chocolate mouse, a hazelnut pastry and a flan floating on top of a coconut tapioca, all of which were indescribably delicious. We cannot wait to go back and eventually want to try everything!

When we arrived for our reservation we requested a quiet spot, but were seated in the first room with the bar rather than the back room. We were seated at a table that could not comfortably hold the food and drinks. It was more appropriate for a cocktail than a dinner that costs more than $200. No wonder the wait staff stops by often to remove plates and glasses because the tables are minuscule. I am not a fan of stiff drinks, but the margarita I ordered had an overabundance of ice and little tequila. The food was tasty, and the staff explained how to order from the menu appropriately. This is necessary since many of the ingredients in the dishes are unfamiliar. The wait service is very good, the front desk less thoughtful.

The reviews here and other sites were mixed so we were a little concerned. But the food critic articles on the place were very good, so my wife and I gave it a try. The food critics are right. Extremely creative and surprising at every turn. Frijoles - light, soup-like, citrus flavor - delicious. The scallop - a great bite (each with a generous sized scallop) with such an innovative sauce. The tortillas - moist and delicious just eating them plain. The lamb tamale - so tasty. The octopus - so tender and if you love chorizo (and we do) you'll love this. Quesadilla - not what you expect and really good. And the mango panna cotta with the really spicy meringue - wow, another great bite. Don't forget the cocktails, especially the spicy ones. The kick goes great with all of the food. Better than wine, I think. Yes, the price is a little high for 'Mexican food'. But it's not Mexican food - it's GREAT food that's meant to be shared (go with more people to try more things and/or to order the large plates, which looked too big for 2 people). Don't think about the bill until the meal is over!

I met a foodie friend here for dinner and it did not disappoint. Aside from the unique menu the atmosphere was really fun and comfortable. Get ready for an expansive cocktail menu. I can recommend the house special, Cazuela, and their Paloma. Stay away from the wine list--at least the white wine--which was the one low point. As for the food--everything was fantastic. The quesadilla, the fois gras pan dulce, the Chicharone and the tamales were all worth coming back for. And we will. Highly recommend!

I've been to Broken Spanish twice now. The food is really unique and I appreciate the variety of dishes. The quality of the food is also very good, everything I've had is really delicious. The ambiance and decor are spot on. However, this place doesn't deserve anyone's money as long as John D continues to be a server. Unfortunately, I had him both times I was there. I don't know what this man's problem is, but his attitude and overall manners toward other humans is downright appalling. I chalked the first time I had him up to a bad night - everyone has them. But, when I saw he was our server again and acted the SAME way, I knew this is just how he is: rude, disrespectful (to the people paying his health insurance), condescending, arrogant, and just down right ugly to talk to. He literally walked away from me EVERY SINGLE TIME I tried reading the menu to order. In fact, he did this to the two other people at our table too, and we weren't ordering anything complicated or complex... the menu isn't that big. His lack of respect for the place where he works and toward his customers is so disgusting, I cannot understand why Broken Spanish continues to pay him. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever be back here because of this.

Taking Mexican food to a higher level and with a twist. If you're in LA and open a high-end Mexican spot, you better bring it something new and amazing. My first meal and Broken Spanish did just that. I went with modest expectation and even dared to bring a friend who has had her own share of amazing meals and transplant from Mexico. We both were pleased. Sure not ever dish met her mom's level but I who do not have a Mexican mother was impressed.\n\nOur server Luis put us on the right path with his suggestions:\n- drinks: Paloma Phosphate and Green Garden to start. Both drinks were good but definitely get the Green Garden. It's refreshing with a little heat which just made it lovely.\n- Cal Tamale which was AMAZING! Listen I don't typically like tamales but I love this one. Light and tasty with cooked vegetable filling. The sauce is to die for and worth licking the plate.\n- Caracoles (snails) were interesting. Prepared well. It was good but not as memorable as the tamale.\n- Chicararron (pork belly) was decedent indeed. Cooked perfectly - crisp on the outside and super tender inside. The acidic sauce was nice. We paired with the cabbage side dish which was a good recommendation by Luis.\n- Cafe de Olla (chocolate dessert) was truly the cherry on top. Balanced perfectly - not too sweet and creamy without being heavy. We swear we would come back just for this. Yummy.\n\nYes, I would totally go back. We enjoyed it and next time will ask to sit by the window which opens up. On a cool evening, it's a nice touch.

Saw rave reviews on LA Eater, so we tried it before a Laker's game. Nice bar area atmosphere. The back room is a bit off-putting and bare, but perhaps it is nice during warmer months or during daylight hours. Excellent service. We ordered 5 items on the menu. Three were excellent - Tamale, tortillas and beans. Two were pretty terrible - chile relleno and a chicken dish. Not sure if we'd return. Maybe we would do it again but just sit at the bar and have an appetizer or two. The cocktails were delicious so might be worth going back just for those.

Demolished one of LAs most beautiful interiors way for a mediocre, hodge podge of modern with fake geometric concrete block walls, embellishments of of small colorful, floral dollies, huge oversized oval dollies and waxy leaved, interior plants available at most supermarkets. I understand a 'new' look but what a shame to destroy such beauty.\nI have to say the food was very good. The mix of flavors was new and delicious.\nIf your looking for a quiet meal look elsewhere. We were seated in the corner room. It was uncomfortably loud we asked to be moved.

Took my 80 year old parents visiting from England to experience some Mexican cuisine. Despite my Dad reflexively ordering the Quesadilla I did manage to get them to try the Chochoyotes and the Chicharron. They now have a better appreciation of Mexican cuisine. The Snapper was spectacular also. 🤓

Food good, ambience awful.\nWe dined on a weekday, quite early. It is hard to imagine a less pleasant experience. The tables are so close together that the waiter cannot get between them to take an order, or to serve. The noise level was like being at a hockey event. The service is uneven. The bar cannot make the most simple drinks not on the rather small menu. The food was quite good, but not good enough to justify this disaster of a restaurant. And, the cost is outrageous for what is being offered - $160 for two, including one drink, one beer, one appetizer, and two entrees.

The Broken Spanish offered an interesting take on traditional dishes and ones I haven't tried before. We had the queso seafood fundido, which was delicious. We also tried two small plates: the chochoyotes, which were interesting Spanish gnocchi and the ox tail quesadilla. The service and the staff were far more accommodating and friendly than expected, especially our waiter whom I think my date would have been willing to trade me in for at a certain point!! Honestly, we've been wanting to try this place for a while so when DineLA came up we booked. Their DineLA menu is a 95/person pre-fixe. We decided to splurge but immediately regretted it. None of the items on that menu are anything they offer on the regular menu. We usually like that Dine LA offers you a taste of a place. We should've just ordered off the regular menu and we would have saved money. We're happy to spend 100/person for an incredible meal but the food was disappointing across the board and for 95 dollars each we could have ordered like a dozen regular menu items. The normal menu may be better but we probably won't be back to find out.

There were only 5 entrees to choose from and several people said they were not interested in any of them. Two people ordered the duck which was mostly fat, and shows that the kitchen does not know how to cook duck. The oxtail quesadilla had so little oxtail it could not be found, etc. and the vegetarian option was overcooked and the service staff need training. The best item of the evening was the ice cream and sorbet dessert option (don't know if they they were made on the premises but they were delicious).

This was my third visit to Broken Spanish over the last year, and it was the best meal yet. I have always liked the place, but the menu now seems to have been culled to just the greatest hits. I miss the lamb head that used to be on the menu, but the snapper is excellent as is the pork belly. For starters, we loved the queso fundido and the snails, especially on the tortillas. The cocktails are reliably excellent. We sat in the back room, where it is possible to talk. Previously, I sat in the main room, and the volume could be too loud to even converse; I would avoid that room unless your goal is not to communicate. The service was excellent, as always: attentive but not intrusive, and helpful. The only negative is the addition of a 3% charge for 'health care' for workers -- I am all for providing health care, but this should be built into the price of the food just like all other expenses, not tacked on at the end as a stealth charge.

I really enjoyed my first time at Broken Spanish. Very exciting menu for groups to share a variety of interesting dishes. Both tamales are excellent choices, highly recommended! The cocktail (La Plancha) I had was on point (it's been months since I've had a really good cocktail) and the dessert menu was super creative and playful. I haven't seen such a diverse and interesting dessert menu in a long time. Usually I'm too full to even look at the dessert menu!

We heard this was a top chef's new hot spot but the waiter didn't take time to describe the food or recommend specific dishes. We explained that we were vegetarians and didn't like spicy food. Enchiladas were too hot, even for our most adventurous guest. Once we mentioned, in Spanish, that we knew of the chef, his attitude changed but too late.

The Chicharrón was amazing & I put it up there with some of the best dishes I've had in Los Angeles. Portions were small & if we didn't order tortillas with our last dish we probably would have left still hungry. Very dark. Would've appreciated more light to see my food & the person I was eating with. Services was great. Attentive but not annoyingly so. Would definitely return.

We were really impressed by the food. This was our second time at Broken Spanish and it did not disappoint. The Tostada to start was really spicy and a must. We went to Broken Spanish expecting some good Mexican Food. We live across the street and were happy there was a new restaurant in the previous 'Rivera' space. After looking at the menu we had to leave. Literally everything on the menu was made with some odd animal part instead of a normal cut of Beef, Chicken, Fish or Pork. The closest thing they had that was recognizable was paper thin crispy pork fat which they said was Pork Belly. Whipped Pork Fat as the topping for a Tortilla?....What? I thought that they must be able to put something together that we could enjoy so I asked the waitress. The waitress was gracious and tried to help us. A Quesadilla with just Cheese and Chicken perhaps? - We don't have Cheese and we don't have Chicken! Carne Asada - No! Simple Grilled Fish - No! A Taco without animal entrails in it - not going to happen. Blended Margarita - We don't have a Blender (A good Blender is about $30.00). Unless they make the menu more accessible they won't last long. I understand wanting to be a little different, but this is extreme. Ended-up tipping the waitress for her time and going across the street to our favorite El Cholo.

First time at the restaurant. Service was pretty good, but most of the food was disappointing. The scallop dish would have been brilliant, but the Serrano peppers overwhelmed everything else. The carnitas butter tortillas were just 'grease on a blue corn tortilla.' Admittedly, the tortillas alone we excellent. Also excellent were the lamb neck tamales, every bit as good as the foodie hype suggested. Our other two dishes we OK, but not memorable and also overly spicy (to the point of being nearly one-dimensional).

We tried Broken Spanish before a Clippers game last week and were happy to find a positive addition to a burgeoning list of good pre-game options. The starters were quite good especially the Morongo (blood sausage with peach and arugula) served more like a pate than a traditional sausage and terrific housemade tortillas with refried lentils. Pollo Prensada was 'so so' and I wouldn't order it again but I would definitely take the duck in a delicious mole as a large plate to share. The service or possibly kitchen was a little slow and we had to rush eating our duck in order to make the game, although we got there in time for a 5:30 res. Probably a pacing issue but I would remind server to make sure we have enough time to really enjoy what turned out to be an interesting menu with creative twists on traditional and not usually seen Mexican fare.

The restaurant is cozy and lively, especially at the bar, but the spacious layout and big tables allow you plenty of room to breathe and enjoy your company. We sat out on the enclosed patio, which was wonderful, if at times a tiny bit loud. But it just made our get-together more enjoyable. The service was some of the best in LA. They were incredibly knowledgable, friendly and attentive. We had some special requests (such as getting out by a certain time), and our server was very accommodating. The food was phenomenal. I ordered the chicharron plate. It was essentially a piece off at lard with skin (pork belly) with green salsa an micro greens on top . The waiter said it was 'rich' and 'life-altering'. It was disgusting and gave me diarrhea. I'm Mexican and this foo-foo plate was a TOTAL waste of money and the restaurant ITSELF was a TOTAL waste of time. All the items I ordered were over-priced and not good. There's nothing authentic about this place. If you want to eat pretentious food, that is flavorless, and over-priced that makes you sick to boot, this is your place! On top of all this, the waiters that brought out the food and described it to with thick Hispanic accents refused to reciprocate in Spanish when I spoke to them. I believe it was fear of management. They didn't want this Mexican restaurant to be TOO Mexican. I understood this place NOT to be an 'El Torito,' however, I expected much more from all the hype. Two thumbs way down!!!!

As a business traveller, I am always looking for great restaurants to try in the cities I visit. Los Angeles has no shortage of great places to eat, but I have to say that Broken Spanish is a cut above most! It's two blocks from my hotel (JW Marriott) and was bustling on a Thursday night. We made an 8:45pm reservation but had to wait an extra 20 minutes for the table to open up. The manager on duty that night was very apologetic and provided complimentary margaritas and appetizers for us (THANKS!)\n\nThe food is served family style, which means be prepared to share lots of different, inventive dishes. Each of the appetizers we tried amazed my party and I with the complexity of the flavors, the right amount of 'kick' to the spices, and the presentation. All of the dishes were best served with the house-made blue corn tortillas, which are pretty fantastic just on their own!\n\nAll in all, it was a wonderful experience and great menu. I can't wait to be back in LA so I can visit it again!

It wasn't clear after looking online that this was a small plates/sharing menu. Again, no problem. A plus if anything! We ordered so many small plates to share among three people, and we loved each and every one. The tostada, the quesadilla, the pulpo, the spinach tamale, the veal... All of it was fantastic, and we all left with full tummys. The cocktails looked super yummy, although I ordered some type of wheat beer. The atmosphere is great... Loved our first experience at Broken Spanish, which my son recommended as a good and convenient walk from the Metro and a concert at LA Live. Interesting menu, friendly and informative service, great Mexican beer offerings. Only negative was seeing on the menu that 3% could be deleted upon request if patrons don't want to help pay for employee health insurance. That meant I could've (but didn't want to) shave off less than $2 from my bill. I not only find the opt-out wording on the menu deeply offensive to employees, it also makes me nauseous just to thinking about eating food cooked and served by workers lacking quality health care because their employer lets customers choose not to fund health insurance.

First time at this location, wanted something 'Mexican-Style' in downtown L.A. and really enjoyed the experience. The waiter was very helpful and made a few suggestions... here are some of the things we tried. \nDrinks - Tepache Fizz was very good and the mug also brought back some memories. Cazuela was also very good and liked the cazuela-style dish which was served in. It was obvious at this point that they know how to make their drinks, would recommend.\nWe had the Queso Fundido and Frijoles for Botanas with some tortillas. The tortillas are handmade and delicious. Elevated the taste of the Queso Fundido and Frijoles. Really enjoyed the taste of these two dishes. Then we ordered the Quesadilla from Entradas and was very delicious as well. From Platos Principales we ordered the Rabbit, Chicharron and Cabeza. My friend had the Rabbit and it was very well cooked and seasoned. The Cabeza was very well cooked, they actually bought in the lambs head with the dish, the meat was very tender and delicious. The Chicharron was very deliciuos as well, served over the Garlic Mojo... oh my gosh, tender and easy to enjoy the taste, it was one that I enjoyed the most, my favorite of the 3. Then came the Desert. We ordered the Abuelita Hot Chocolate (it was a must) and the Chile Mango... OH MY... strongly recommend both. The Abuelita Hot Chocolate served with a tasty Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream and Abuelita Hot Chocolate Broth served on top when they bring it to you... But I didn't and cannot think of a reason to go back. Hard to pin-point exactly why. Hostess and bus-persons very friendly. Waiter (even when we were only two of 10 people in the restaurant) distracted and not attentive. I put that down to him having too many tables to take care of. Menu is full of surprises, but its hard to construct a 'meal' if you really don't want to share. We are so over tapas and sharing. Lots of things for vegetarians which you wouldn't guess from the web menu. The wine list is bizarre but well priced (for bottles) if you could only find something from Baja that might be sort of like a Rioja. Or an oaky white wine. And, oh...just try reading that 10 point type in dim light. And, no we don't have de-caf coffee. I guess what they need is an 'ambassador'...someone who really goes in depth to make you welcome, explain the dishes (menu doesn't do that well), helps you construct an interesting meal. In some spots it might be your waiter. Not here.

Like I said great disappointment, we ordered the following dishes:\n\n(1) Camote -Sweet potato, Pig Tail, Trompa, Chile de Arbol, Verjus - the camote was burned , where's the Pig Tail?, (was like a needle in the hay stack) the chile sauce and veggies no taste\n\n(2) Chile Rellano - no taste at all. \n\n(3) Salt Cod in a spicing and salty tomato sauce with cheese was the best dish of all - you could taste the individual ingredients, the dish was very tasty, great aroma and great presentation. \n\n(4) The tortillas no taste just a pretty color.\n\n(5) Arroz Con Leche - rice was over cooked (had a sightly burn taste) too mushy too much liquid. Great presentation with the dried fruit.\n\nit's great disappointment to our Mexican Food Culture, this food was aimed to the foodies, tourist and gringos with no taste. The chef was not on top of these dishes, he missed the taste!!!!!!!\n\nOne thing I can say the food presentation was great, 'they say we eat with our eyes' but they forgot the taste!!!!!!!!! \n\nChef's add your modern twist to traditional dishes but don't forget the savory taste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\n\nTHIS WAS NOT GOOD MEXICAN FOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\n\nWill not return again or recommend the BROKEN SPANISH.

I've been wanting to go to Broken Spanish for a while. We had a 9pm reservation and we weren't seated until almost 9:45 which was not a good way to start the night, there was no room at the bar either. They did however send out a complimentary appetizer which was much appreciated. The service was good but very slow. The food, which is the most important part, was overall very very good. This is the sort of place that I highly recommend letting the waiter do most of the ordering for you (which is goes against my nature completely). I recognized a lot of the more traditional dishes so ordered a few of them, in turn I think we missed out on some of their staple dishes. The lamb neck enchiladas are an absolute must and beware of he chicahrron- it is delicious but full on.

Having dined at Rivera the 4+star restaurant formerly in this space and reading\nthe reviews of Broken Spanish, I had high hopes. Unfortunately on this weekday\nnight it was a disappointment. It started with the hostess seating me in the least \ndesirable table in an empty dining room, it was 5:30. The experience at Broken Egg was just what we needed to impress a client. The setting is rather modern, but they have just the right authentic touches (i.e., pottery serving dishes, crochet doilies under centerpieces, membrillo candy by the door, etc.). The food was unlike what is offered elsewhere and we liked everything we ordered. I was worried for a moment when the client requested that the queso fundido not have bacalao (cod) and was told that it only came that way. However reluctantly, we ordered any way and the client liked it so much that we ended up getting a second order. The artisanal blue corn tortillas are to die for!

Was seated 30+ min late for our reservation. Our waiter didn't come over for another 10-15 min and proceeded to forget about us multiple times. Even when we asked for the check because we had to leave for a show he took 5-10 min to come back with the check. The good runners and busers were excellent and very attentive. Food saved the day. All we had was top notch!

Very much enjoyed the novel combinations of Mexican standbys - tostadas with incredible vegetables (and spice!), quesadilla with oxtail, scallop crudo with apple, tamale with lamb neck. The food is very, very interesting. I am a curious person when it comes to cocktails, but think the Mescal-based Negroni was a bit of a stretch. My husband said it tasted like burned plastic and I could not disagree. We also went on a chilly night and our window side table was freezing. Though they did readily move us, felt like we were not given a great table and the restaurant was only 3/4s full on a Sunday night. As far as service goes, they were awfully nice and the servers explained the complex dishes very thoroughly.

Found Broken Spanish on a list of best restaurants in L.A., so we tried it out for my birthday. The lamb neck tamales and oxtail quesadillas are must-haves. Cocktails are delicious with the right amount of alcohol. \n\nThe manager Danielle went above-and-beyond to recommended popular dishes and drinks that would make our first time there memorable. Plus, she checked up on us so many times, I lost count. Also, we told her it was my birthday and she surprised us with a next level desert that looked so delicate and refined -- and tasted out of this world. \n\nIt's elevated Spanish food with a nice spicy kick. I cannot say enough good things about Broken Spanish. There is a true dichotomy between the food served here and the food served at El Cholo nearly directly across the street.\n\nThe housemade corn tortillas are tender, warm, and delicious with the refried lentils in lieu of beans. The lentils have the same savory, creamy texture highlighted with a touch of cotija cheese atop for some tang. Spread on those fine corn tortillas, which can be seen being made in the kitchen from Flower Street, is delightful.\n\nBoth members of my party opted for the Lamb Neck tamales, which again were outstanding. The masa was delicious, slightly crisped and though the portion was not extreme I left sated. A great meal all around highlighted with a great beer from a craft brewery in Tijuana, which was another treat for the night.\n\nThe wine-by-the-glass menu is sparse and pricey but the Pinot Noir was delicious.

Went on a Tues. and my wife and I who are foodies were totally satisfied with our dishes. They were well balanced with sweet and salt, hot and spicy. If you like every dish to be right on the edge, you'll love Broken Spanish. It's the kind of spice that almost has you scratching your head, but not quite. Like I said the heat is just right. I especially liked the cocks comb and the snoot dish, Its a really good soft but crunchy texture. The scallops in serrano, apple, onion, vinaigrette with very small apple squares . You must go and try for yourself. It's very different than your run of the mill spanish restaurant. We're going back next Tuesday to give it another shot just to see if they are consistant..

Maybe go in a few months after they get their act together. The food is very good but the the overall experience was terrible. The heat doesn't work in one part of the restaurant, they get confused with orders, and they don't understand how to time the dishes. Expect to sit around for 5-15 minutes between finishing one dish and the next plate arriving. (literally 2 tacos, the 4 of us eat them within 5 min, 20 minutes later green beans, we eat them in 5 miuntes, 20 minutes later, etc.) I am all for a leisurely meal, but it was very annoying.

After my experience at this place I felt compelled to write this review. 15 mins after being seated, service staff came over and asked if we wanted something to drink. I asked for the wine list and water. I also explained we were going to the basketball game so we would order quickly. After another 5 mins menus appeared but with no water. I quickly ordered a bottle of wine in the $100 range. I explained to the waiter since it was our 1st time here could you tell us about some of the dishes and approx how many to order per person. He told me that everything was good and just to order what I wanted. He provided ZERO help or guidance. We ordered anyway. I than asked where the wine and water was. He told me someone else was looking for the wine. With that he disappeared. 10 mins later someone else appears with a bottle of wine and tells me that they are out of the wine we ordered but this is very similar. Frustration has set in as it has been over 25 mins and we just have water. I agree to the wine. She than leaves with the bottle and comes back 10 mins later with the wine already decanted and no bottle. I have never seen that before. Food finally comes. All average and too many dishes at the suggestion or lack there of from the waiter. No one came over to ask how is everything or to even refill our water glasses. The whole restaurant was totally overwhelmed and under-trained. Finally get anyone's attention for check. Another 5 mins goes by and it arrives. The wine that they said is similar to the wine I had ordered was $295. No where close to similar. I do not even know if that was the wine we received because they did not decant it at the table. Called over our waiter to inquire and he informed me that that was not his issue that someone else handled that. I asked to have them come over. Nobody shows after another another 10 mins. This was one of the worst dinning experiences I have had in LA. Too many places for good food and good service to be swindled.

Great food and atmosphere! Our server Johnny extended a warm welcome to us and explained the concept/menu very well. He knew the menu inside and out. We ordered all of his recommendations and loved all of them except for one. \n\nAll the savory dishes we enjoyed included the tostada, chile relleno, and rebanada (sweet bread with foie gras butter) to start with, followed by the moronga (blood sausage) and then the chicharron. We enjoyed all of them, but my three favorites were the tostada, chile relleno and rebanada. The dish I wouldn't order again was the rabbit - not a fan of the flavor at all. \n\nWe ordered three desserts: flan, apple empanada and arroz con leche. Of the three, the goat's milk flan was my absolute favorite. Thanks for the hospitality and delicious food!

Husband and I showed up at our reservation time of 8:30pm and were notified there was a bit of a wait and were personally led to the bar - we sipped on a drink each and people watched. I got the Saint Patron which was a twist on the classic Whiskey Sour, including bitters, egg white and some Ancho - served in a neat cup, delicious, creamy and with the nice Bourbon heat to round it out. My husband got a drink that was served with mini ice and a sprig of basil flower, also very nice. We were led to our seat under a charming assortment of clay? lamps at about 9:15pm - the bar gave us great people-watching opportunities and the bartenders didn't give us any pressure at all. \n\nWe had the pan dulce with foie gras (served thick-sliced with sea salt, so luxurious but not too heavily sweet), oxtail quesadilla (presented very well with generous oxtail stew taste), lamb neck tamale (served in a little cast iron, rich taste again), the cabeza!! (looks really big an intimidating, but the cheek, brain, tongue - everything was uniquely textured but also very rich and well spiced. Our order may have bothered the couple next to us but we enjoyed it thoroughly!), and the Chile Mango panna cotta. \n\nService was impeccable and there was not a long wait for food once the first plate came - even though the place was bustling, a dropped fork vanished and was replaced quickly with a new one by a different service person, service was always smiling and polite and 'invisible' so we never felt hurried. We had an exceptional experience here and will be sure to return and show our friends this place whenever they visit from out of state!

Wow - great food in an atmosphere that is exactly what I want in a Mexican restaurant. The space is modern but traditional at the same time, not too clubby but with nice finishes. The food is amazing, elevated traditional cuisine with really thoughtful ingredients and flavors. Great cocktail list too - many mezcal and bourbon drinks but some really standout tequila items as well; my favorite was basically green juice with lemon, ginger, elderflower and tequila. Everything we had was delicious but would recommend definitely the enchiladas, by far the more delicious thing we had. So fresh! If you live in Los Angeles, you've heard about Broken Spanish and BS Taqueria by now. I am always a bit skeptical of restaurants that have a huge amount of hype around them because they are often annoyingly hip, can't live up to their reputation or fit snuggly within the formula that makes for the momentary shine and quick burnout that we see often in LA.\n\nBroken Spanish is a true gem and the type of restaurant (and staff) that you actually want to fight for to make sure that they will be around for years to come. The food was great, as expected from the hype, but was far better than expected...exploratory, inventive AND amazing. The space is beautiful and offers endless amounts of inspiration that will have you strategizing a breezeblock installation in your own home. The staff is well curated and diverse in most every way. While they are attractive and stylish enough to adopt the aggravating arrogance that is common in the foodie industry, everyone that we encountered was knowledgeable, kind, helpful, pleasant, funny and SWEET! Above and beyond the hype, the great food and the beautiful environment, what I was left with was the comfort that the staff provided with their warmth and hospitality. Go there.

A friend and I grabbed dinner at Broken Spanish on Saturday night. Overall, it was an A-OK experience. The waiter was great and really attentive. The food was good, but a little too exotic for my taste. I wish I would have paid more attention to the menu before booking the reservation. I am slowly starting to branch out and try more and more exotic food, but the majority of the items on their menu are pretty out there. If that's your thing, you'll probably love it. For my friend and I, we went with the turkey leg and it was good, but it was a turkey leg. The best thing we had was the queso fundido, definitely try that out. Unlike most Mexican restaurants, they do not give you chips so you have to order a side of tortillas. Overall, this place is pricey and just not my cup of team in terms of food/drink. The cocktails were really interesting, but mostly tequila and bourbon based, I'm a vodka girl so was a little confused on what to order. My tip - check out the menu before dining, it's limited and pretty exotic. If the items sound like your style then check them out! Make sure to request a table, not at the 'sushi' bar equivalent. They tried to seat me at this counter type situation, but I had them move me. It is expensive to be at a 'sushi' bar - when it's not even sushi so I do not know what you'd be watching!

When I made a reservation online, I asked the restaurant to prepare a rose because I was bringing a girl, who I liked. On the day, the girl told me that she had a friend coming as well. I was nervous because it would be embarrassed if the waiter brought a rose to the girl. We went to the restaurant and they arranged a larger table for us. We sat down and looked at the menu. Finally, a guy came to our table with two roses. He handed one to each of the girl. I was kind of disappointed because I couldn't say much when there is an extra girl here. I'm glad that the restaurant was being considerate and brought a rose for the other girl as well. They were surprised and appreciated my setup. And I appreciated all the work that the restaurant did. \n\nFurther more, all service we have received was great. The waiters/waitress are being very nice and always came to us with a smile on the face. \n\nFood wise, I like the duck heart very much. The girl I like and I liked the Lamb's neck (head), while the other girl didn't take lamb. The creativity of preseantion with traditional Mexican flavors, mixed with a modern flare- are enough to get you hooked. The cocktails are well thoughout and add to the warmth and sexiness of the restaurant. It was nice to see the Chief and owner, Ray Garcia when we walked in- he was overseeing his team and kitchen. I ordered 'botanas,' and 'entradas'- I had his Molletes ( one of my favorite breakfast items)- surprised that the bolillito was not smeared with with beans, but with peas- yet they tasted as if they were beans and the queso fresco on top just made it for me- the esquite- crazy- the habanero kick at the end mixed with the sweetest of the corn-I tried his quesadillas- that tortilla was so fresh and tasty with the oxtail quisadao- I also tried his pea tamal- the presentation blew me away- it was presented like a flan would be presented- it was the prettiest thing, I have ever seen-the flavors were subtle but rich... I giggled everytime a dish that I am familiar with came out, they captivated me visually and the familiar flavors burst in my mouth at different moments. The flavors were subtle-smooth and if you know the traditional dishes, they would make you giggle with joy to see how the Chief has presented them( visually and gastronomically). Every dish is a little gift for you to enjoy. The service is amazing- we had water waiters-food waiters-cocktail waiters and our waiter who would check in periodically. The staff is very attentive walking throughout the restaurant to accomodate anything you need ( they are also funny and they make you feel like your dining in their home). Speaking spanish also added to the experience. :) My husband and I had a wonderful experience.

Queso fundido underseasoned and very little fish for the price. Shrimp: undercooked, could barely pull away from shell it was so undercooked and stringy. Mushrooms with fried masa, extremely salty and acidic, flirting with inedible. Oxtail quesadilla tasty filling, underwhelming dish overall. Flan: delicious. 2 tequila drinks were good, one beer. I would go back for tamales, my partner said they would not return. Over $200 for 2 standout dishes and flan...they need to step it up.

Great flavors! The Fava bean tamales were incredible as were the heirloom corn tortillas & lentils. Highly recommend eating here.

The lengths to which Chef Garcia goes to find the very best ingredients and prepares them into something new and magical, pays off in big ways for the diner. He pushes the category, but always nods back to his old-world base. The cocktails are sublime and pair perfectly with the heat and flavors of the food. We love his daring, and nice to have something bold and progressive, near LA Live, and yet all of it is approachable and delicious for everyone.

Broken Spanish takes authentic mexican cuisine to an entirely new level not seen anywhere else in LA. Put this at the top of your evening dining list. Make reservations in advance as the placed was fully sat at 7pm.

We had been curious about Broken Spanish ever since they took over the spot from Riviera. They definitely looked busier. So we went for an early dinner. Could not have been happier that we did. There were three of us and we all definitely loved the food as well as the attentive service from the staff. Kudos! Menu highlights from our meal (all of these were shared between 3 people) - Esquites, Lamb Neck Tamales, Oxtail Quesadillas AND the Abuelitos Chocolate Dessert. We also got the Salpicon (Brisket), but felt that it was less successfully executed flavor wise than the other dishes, which were so much more vibrant and flavorful. The Salpicon needed some brightness (maybe with some acid or citrus), some heat and a touch more salt. We are raving about that chocolate dessert, it had a variety of textures and the bitterness/sweetness ratio was perfect. So good!\n\nOur group was in total agreement that we would definitely come back to try other items on the menu and bring friends and family to enjoy a meal at this cool downtown spot.\n\nSomething to be aware of, it is downtown, so parking can be a challenge - especially if there is an event at Convention Center, Staples or LA Live complexes; I'd recommend using the metro and hopping off at the Pico station of the Blue Line or walk the few short blocks from 7th Street Station.\n\nHoe you get a chance to enjoy, Broken Spanish!

Went there for LA Restaurant week. Drinks are incredible, food was excellent but they forgot to serve the main course. They were shocked when they brought dessert and I told them we never got our main course. The manager did great service recovery and I would still recommend it.

Some of the best, most interesting food in LA. The food is delicious and not odd-but combinations of flavors that one would not expect. And the plating is beautiful and fanciful.

We had heard the food here was amazing and we were not disappointed. I don't know if it had anything to do with the fact that my name is John Rivera, but the service was absolutely outstanding. One of the best meals I've ever had.

A definite place to try but there is just something a bit 'awkward' with this one. Food is good; service is friendly and it's certainly creative. I'm not a fan of the 'three room' concept but that may be my problem. Drinks are wonderful. All things considered a place to try. Yet, for some reason, I'm just not rushing back despite liking it. So, for me, something's a bit off.

This was absolutely hands down THE BEST meal I've had in my life! My bf (at the time) is a very finicky eater and he was DYING of amazement at each bite. The food here is phenomenal. The menu is a bit tricky at first, but the staff was very helpful. We sat in the South American section.

The food was really different with unexpected twists on Mexican and southwestern cuisine. The cocktail with the dried BBQ beef swizzle is amazing, memorable and worth the visit (it's 10 AM and I wouldn't mind one now!). The portions are small for the money. They gave us a lovely free dessert because of all the parking hassle we went through due to a marathon event downtown. Loved sitting at the chef's bar with my 14 year old son and watching preparations. A beautiful, interesting environment. I would go back.

You're just not going to find a restaurant like this anywhere but an LA or NYC. Super-creative molecular gastro Latin excellence. A complete foodie experience from the brilliant mezcal cocktails to the shaved bittersweet chocolate and blue cheese appetizers. A must-eat for LA food enthusiasts and quite possibly a reason in and of itself for a special trip to Los Angeles.

Went here before meeting up with friends at Perch. Walked in and was TOTALLY CONFUSED by the menu/seating system. Sit in this area for this menu, this area for another, etc. But when we finally sat... here are all the menus, order from any of them. Then menu items are duplicated across the menus, so it was difficult to figure out which items were unique to which menu. Dumb dumb dumb. Food was really good, but pricey for what your received. Small portions, high price. Drinks were good, but mostly ice. Probably won't be going back.

Ate here on 2/8/12. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in and had drinks at the bar, to the fabulous food and service, it was an enjoyable meal all around. The waiter encouraged us to try dishes out of our comfort level, and we were not disappointed. Service was great, and the atmosphere wonderful (we ate in the back dining room with all the Tequila bottles). Wonderful food and ambiance. Would go back again.

There are lots and lots of rules at this place--or at least that's what our waitress wanted us to believe. She wanted us to listen to a whole disquisition on the philosophy of the place and how to order instead of simply responding to our questions. It was almost like one of those sales meetings for a timeshare, where the sales person won't go off script and you have to listen to the whole spiel before asking what you really want to know. The food was uneven. Some was great. But a lot was pretty plain, even if the presentation was over the top fancy. Lots of hip folks there, spending lots of money, and thinking they're special.

Never had a bad meal here... On\r\nY downer this time was the service absolutely SUCKED!!! That has never happened here. Every time we asked for something (ie refilling our wine glasses from the bottle we ordered) it felt like we were asking for the world! WTH??!!! A memorable service meaning waiter lack-of-service... Nothing good to say about this time around although it is still one of our favorite places in LA.

We had been to Rivera before a few times, had great food and service, and always looked forward to returning. This time was disappointing from the onset. The young lady seemed to not know what do when we arrived 15 minutes early. We ended up sitting at the bar for over a half hour waiting for our table. When we were finally seated there was no acknowledgement of our table for another 15 or so minutes. Then the food we ordered was given to the table next to us so we had to wait even longer. Lastly the jamon (which upon previous visits tasted like genuine pata negra) looked and tasted like prosciutto. So we have decided to try all the other downtown establishments before considering returning to Rivera.

We read about Rivera in LA magazine, so when we visited LA, we were thrilled to be able to experience it.\r\nAnd, what a foodie experience it was. Every single course was artfully served & wonderfully delicious. Our waitperson made it very fun, as we were unfamiliar with many of the menu items.\r\nWe look forward to eating there again, hopefully soon. It was easily the best meal of our trip to Los Angeles!
