Terrible table - right next to entrance constantly getting bumped. Ordered quickly but didn't get food for a long time. The food used to be great here, but this time it was very average - crispy rice was soft, our spring tuna roll had almost no tuna in it but just a huge piece of cucumber, and service was tough to get a hold of. Long periods between individual dishes being brought out and then took forever to get the check collected, finally giving it to a random waiter. Probably done with this place.

1st Time......Sorry, THE Last Time! Although, some reviewer's 'Swear' by this Restaurant...I feel it's really an 'Over-Priced, Over-Rated Wannabe Hollywood Tourist TRAP!' \nThe Staff seems Dedicated & Trained...And I mean that! But even with 'Their Loyalty' can not seem to hide the 'Overall Fake' non Japanese Conformity. When is comes to the FOOD! Reviews Always Forgot About The Food!!!

We had a 6:45 reservation because we had tickets to the Pantages theatre at 8:00. We weren't seated until 7:20, and had to wolf down an expensive meal in ten minutes. The staff shrugged off the inconvenience as not their problem while we stood in the crowded lobby for 35 minutes. We are season ticket holders and will definitely be choosing a different restaurant from now on.

the food is consistently delicious at Katsu ya and it's perfect before the Pantages. The busboy actually upsold us on the way beef fried rice as one of his favorite things and we tried it since we were having a special night (it's $50) and I have to say, it really was amazing. The beef melts in your mouth and the rice was beyond flavorful. It's a special treat, but very tasty. And we got a little discount since we were going to the Pantages, so we didn't feel as guilty! All in all a good time.

My friends who eat a lot of Japanese cuisine rated Katsuya's food some of the best they have eaten. Sushi and sashimi is good but we did not limit ourselves to that. The yellowtail collar was delicate and one guest described it as the top fish she had eaten in the past 2 years. The striped bass was most people's favorite. The black cod was very good as well. And for dessert, the chocolate cake is dense and flavorful, more like a lava cake not a layer cake. The food is expensive but well worth the money. The Philip Stark interior ads a good atmosphere.

I was taken here on my birthday for the first time and within the first round of sushi was sorry that was the case. I've been to many a sushi restaurants over the past decade and the food quality here was well below expectations as well 98% of my past restaurant visits. The service was wonderful along with the decor but the reason I paid the hefty price for Katsuya's sushi was to not only have good food but great food, and I was sorely disappointed. I will not be back and certainly won't refer anybody.

I've been to Katsuya at Houston + Miami and I gotta say it was a little disappointing the Hollywood location... it has the usual decor but not completely... I dont really know how to put it into words, it looks like they ran out of budget and finished the best they could. Also, I know the dressing code is 'casual' but come on... flip flops??? \nThe food, on the other hand, was fantastic! Great as always, the service also great, everybody super friendly and helpful. The service was super fast.\n\nOverall it is a GREAT place to grab a quick bite.

I really wished I would have liked Katsuya but I have to admit the service was horrible. Especially for the high price of the food. First of all the waiters were not attentive at all and I had to call them they never came to check up on the table. After waiting ten minutes to finally flag down a server I ordered a dessert. After ordering it took an extra 25 minutes for it to arrive to the table. If I knew it was going to take that long for the dessert I wouldn't have ordered it. I also noticed that the servers were so attentive and eager to come to the table when it came to grabbing the check. I feel robbed out of my money that I spent here.

Dinner before going to the Pantages. We were seated quickly, saw our server once and then after our drink orders we didn't see her for at least 30 minutes. Fortunately we were quite early for the show. She forgot two of the things we had ordered and, even after being reminded twice, one never made it to us. Service aside, the food was excellent. We had some rollls, gyoza, edamame...all good. Everything was delicious. It's quite dark inside and there seemed to be an internal struggle with the level as it got brighter, then darker several times. Strange. Despite the lackluster service and lighting fiasco we'd still go back happily.

Katsuya is always a favorite of mine. The service is almost always great. The food is really good and CONSISTENT which is good. The sushi always seems to be fresh and typically the food comes out fast which is great because I'm typically starving by the time I get there. We are always treated warmly by the front desk and they typically seat us immediately. Try the yellowtail jalapeño, it's one of my favorites! However...here are some issues that really need to be addressed as they negatively effect most peoples dining experience... 1. According to California Government Code Sections 7596-7598 smoking is not permitted within 20ft. of an entrance/exit to a building/restaurant and yet Katsuya lets people smoke right outside the door at the bottom of the steps and because of that the smoke blows right inside the restaurant and makes me nauseous and gives me a headache and forces me to leave as quickly as possible. Also, it's absolutely offensive and disgusting to be forced to walk through that toxic waste to get to the valet. 2. The flash photo taking of food and each other needs to STOP. The bright flash repeatedly really gives people with light sensitive eyes a headache and again, I have to run out of there as quickly as possible when the children start doing this ridiculousness. Management should not let people use a flash inside the restaurant, there is no need as you can lighten photos under 'edit'. If these things bother you as much as they bother me I strongly suggest asking to be seated on the sushi bar side of the restaurant as this nonsense seems to be less prevalent on that side versus the side with the restrooms.

So we were referred this resto from a friend who lives in LA. We were very excited by the reviews it had and we're happy to try a Japanese resto! Food was incredible! Honestly the first thing we ate (Brussels sprouts) we knew we would eat well. We had a few other dishes which were recommended to us and we were not disappointed at all. Service was ok, nothing phenomenal. Food came too fast and by the time we ordered we were done in less than 40 minutes! Although with the noise we were happy to leave. My husband is a acoustic engineer and he is very prone to all kinds of sounds. The sound was sharp and strident. The DJ that was there was good in terms of choice of music but the resonation and the volume \nof the sound was really uncomfortable. We go out to supper clubs all the time but this was unbearable. Even the couple next to us was saying the same thing. We would go back for sure but only if they fixed their sounds. Thanks

The LOUD music started at 7 and it was so loud it gave me a headache. We could not carry on a conversation and the beat was so intense it was very annoying. This was our go-to-place for dinner before going to the Pantages but we are going to find another restaurant. We had to leave it got so bad even though I'm sure diners complained and the music was toned down a little. It was not like this the last time we visited but that was our last visit. Too bad because we enjoy the food but we can go to the Katsuya in LA Live

Unfortunately, I can't review the food as we left 1 minute after we were seated in the dining room. When we walked in the music was so loud we couldn't understand what the hostess was saying. It took three tries to finally get what she was saying. I ate here with a friend about a year ago and thought food and service was very good, I also don't remember it being so loud. The music was coming from the left of the hostess stand from a different section of the restuarant. It may be a bar area but I'm not sure as I couldn't see in. We figured the dining room on the opposite side would be a bit quieter, but only found the same music was pumped into the that room as well. People were having to almost yell to talk to each other. That is fine in a night club, but for dinner I feel it's an inappropriate volume level. That is unfortunate, as I remember the food being good. If you want a nice, quite dinner experience, I would go elsewhere. \n\nPS-My food and service ratings above were required to add this review but since I didn't actually have dinner last night, these choices are from my previous experience.

Delicious pre-theater sushi dinner! The mushroom salad lagged behind as it came out last and it turned out to be warm sauteed mushrooms with large pieces of butter lettuce which were hard to eat with chopsticks. The mushrooms also were a bit too garlicky for my taste--one bite was pure garlic (ugh). Would not order that salad again. The hostess asked as we checked in whether we going to the Pantages and she noted that we were. Our server, Brace, was right on top of things and got us out in time to make it to the Pantages for our Hedwig and the Angry Inch showing. Definitely would eat here again pre- or post-Pantages show.

Overpriced, but you also get a good people watching show. Well situated near the Pantages. Wagyu beef dishes are delicious, as is the Lobster Dynamite. But my wife got sick from alergic reaction to something in the food - probably an oil in the crispy brussel sprouts. Did not affect the rest of us, and it was delicious.\n\nOn the other hand, the dishes did not arrive simultaneously, and we spent a lot of time watching our friends eat.

The Lounge has a good Happy Hour for cocktails which we enjoyed prior to being seated at our table. Kitchen opens at 5:30pm but we arrived about 10 minutes early. Had the Shishito peppers... Yellowtail w/jalapeno.... Albacore w/mushrooms and Striped Baze ....all were excellent! Since we went to a show at Pantages we left our car there and it was only $5.00 more than standard valet rate which is $13.00.\nService was very good. This is our go-to restaurant now when attending events at Pantages.

Had reservations for 7 arrived a few minutes early and were seated right away! Overall our server was good. Knew the menu fairly well but when I told him I was vegetarian he really couldn't help me other than by telling me what I couldn't eat- which was everything but the side dishes and vegetable roll-which I ended up getting. I had the broccolini which was AMAZING loaded with garlic flavor- and the vegetable rolls which were good but typical. I also had the fried Brussels sprouts (no bonito). dessert was the best part of the meal- get the chocolate cake. It's ridiculous. I've had lunch here before and I'll definitely do that again as they have a bento box that is fairly customizable. Dinner is a tough one.

Absolutely a waste of time and money . The most absurdly stingy portions EVER . The server was ' distracted ' and very incompetent . We ordered appetizers and main courses and all he was interested in doing was getting us to order more food . They brought one drink , forgot the other . The runners had no clue where the food was going . The acoustics are horrible , you cannot hear anything except screaming people muddled together . The dining room is ' not that cool ' . The bathrooms are silly , you cannot tell if the locks work in the stalls or not . When you wash your hands , the water runs off the platform drains , and the soap foam piles up on the platform so it eventually overflows . A restaurant for absurd LA ' wannabe trendoids ' who want to ' be seen ' so badly that they will endure mediocrity so they feel like they are ' cool ' . Save your money and go to a decent restaurant , this is for frat boys and girls who don't know any better .

If you can get over the price it's a great place to dine. It is really the only place to grab nice dinner before a show at the Pantages. I have tried most places around some, some less expensive and Katsuya is always the one I come back to. Read through the reviews, most of the negative reviews revolve around price. This place is expensive and I wouldn't say it's a great value, but the food it's always top notch, the service is good to great and I have never left upset. \n\nI ordered the $75 sampler plate and got to try many different kinds of starters, sashimi, sushi and a huge shareable dessert. I tried a few of the cocktails and all were intriguingly spun with Japanese flair. I recommend it for a date night or special occasion and just be prepared to drop $100-150/person if you are hungry and want drinks. Cheers!

We prefer dining in the main restaurant where the sushi bar is housed, tables are comfortable a bit close together. The alternate dining room is quieter and tables not quite as close. Fish is fresh, preparations are delicious - sashimi, sushi, specialty rolls, special hot tapas size foods such as robata, gyoza, lobster dynamite, waygu beef and foie gras among the list, a nice entree list as well - black cod is great. The saki list is exceptional, many reasonably priced small bottles of really nice saki - the descriptions listed do match the flavor expectation they set. Service is excellent here. Never disappointed at this particular Katsuya location - it is our favorite of all the Katsuya's in Los Angeles area. Convenient short walk to Pantages for theater goers, and nearby lot parking.

If this were my first visit to Katsu-ya, it might also be my last. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great. And it ain't cheap! I routinely go to Katsu-ya in Encino or Little Izakaya in Sherman Oaks (or Kiwami in Studio City) and all are MUCH better than the Hollywood edition. And the prices in Hollywood -- sometimes double what you pay in Encino for the same dish!! That's outrageous. But, then, when the food comes out -- and it's food that I know very well -- and it's not even as good...well, then you're VERY disappointed. \n\nI'd skip the Hollywood operation entirely. While it's much sleeker and more spacious than the ones in Studio City or Encino, it's not worth the price at all. And when the food is marginal as it was last night -- forget about it!

The place was empty and it was obvious that something had changed since our last visit. The server was very inattentive and was not knowledgeable about the types of sashimi. The whole place lacked any kind of enthusiasm along with the sushi chefs being uninviting. I will definitely never return to this location.

Took my daughter and granddaughter for a birthday dinner before seeing Cabaret at the Pantages. Parking for $18.00 covered valet parking for the 90 minutes at the restaurant and the 3 hrs for the show. Waited only 8 minutes for the car and valet was polite.\nWe were given a nice booth along the wall opposite the sushi makers and liked the location.\nService was excellent with only twice having to ask for our waitress moments after she had left for a forgotten item that we forgot to ask for.\nAppetizers - Ededame - ordered salted but saw no salt and had to ask for some salt to add.\nRock shrimp for my granddaughter was delicious - bite sized lightly crispy shrimp covered completely with what seemed to be like a thousand island dressing but very tasty and not spicy.\nPanko crusted chicked breast with tiny shredded veggies inside (no taste) rolled and cut into 7 pieces with a dipping sauce.\nSalmon served with the cherry heirloom tomatoes on the side as requested. Fish cooked perfectly as requested med to well done.\nGranddaughters ahi tuna with crispy onions good but not spectacular.\nThe fried rice squares with raw tuna was a disappointment to her as she had ordered it in Vegas and said this was not what she expected. She ate one of the three pieces. Seemed close to the taste she gave me when ordering it at the Westfield Mall in Woodland Hills for 1/3 the price.\nKnowing it was their birthdays, staff brought out two small plates with a cut in half Mochi (ice cream covered in a gooey covering) with 3-4 pieces of strawberry, raspberry and a pretty leaf. A lit candle for each to blow out.\nHostesses were smiling and gracious, servers were great.\nGuess since I am not a Sushi person, I was surprised at the prices on the three dishes my granddaughter ordered, each between $16.00-$17.00 each. Wine list limited for ordering by the glass. Prices for those two glasses was average.\nA shout out to our server who was smiling and friendly when approaching.

My wife and I are in Hollywood often through some season tickets we hold. We have eaten here before, and wanted to return . This was the first time we visited the restaurant since the remodel. Unfortunately the restaurant looks more like a cafeteria than a romantic and/or hip spot to dine. It was a disappointing turn of events. Whereas past evenings there felt more like an experience, it now just feels like very high price sushi. Im sorry we won't be going back.

Avid sushi fan and was highly disappointed in Katsuya. It has the big name, the great location, the flare and decoration of a great sushi place and that's about it. \n\nThe food was so so. Not worth the over the top prices and it's very Hollywood. Over priced and the sushi was that of what you would get from a Korean sushi joint that specializes in Korean BBQ. \n\nVery disappointed if you want great sushi go elsewhere I prefer Osawa Sushi in Pasadena. Ice cold (served in a box on a bed of ice) and the fish was fresh and delicious. The flourless chocolate cake was possibly the best chocolate dessert I've ever had. SO GOOD. The food was some of the best we've had at a Japanese Restaurant. If only it weren't so loud and so expensive. We had the 1 order each of the Chinese Chicken Salad, Snow Crab Rolls and Wyzu beef (so tender you hardly had to chew it), 1 Miso Soup, 1 Tea, 1 Sake. Everything was delicious. But $100 (including tip) is a bit pricey for Japanese food. The hostess sat us in the bar area as it was quieter than the dining room. However, it was still too loud to talk so we tabled our conversation for later and concentrated one enjoying the delicious meal.

The SBE name has always been synonymous with fine dining, luxurious experiences, and the highest quality when you patronize any of your venues. Long after being seated, Emily, eventually coming to our table. Her greeting was without much pleasantry or even a smile, and she seemed to be in a hurry. We were served our first course with one of our entrees, not the appetizer we specifically ordered as such. We got Emily's attention and expressed our discomfort in receiving an entree prior to the appetizer. Emily didn't seem to be concerned or show any sign of wanting to remedy the situation by possibly suggesting she take it back and get the appropriate dish first, instead she explained that is the way things work at Katsuya, she places the order and they come out as they are ready. For the rest of our dinning, Emily did not pay any attention to us in the manner I expect from Katsuya/SBE. When the other dishes came, she barely slowed down enough to ask if everything was all right. I came to learn that they have changed to a tapas cuisine so the portions are small, which should have been explained to us by Emily.\n In comparison to other venues at the same level, I am accustomed too being kindly greeted by the hostess, enjoying the surroundings in decoration, being welcomed for dinning by the server in a cheerful, friendly manner as if you were her only customers, all leading to the courses being served in order with just right amount of time passage between each course. This type of fine dining was not apparent all evening. The 3 course meal barely provided enough portion size, so that after finishing our meal we were far from satisfied. All of this in an atmosphere that has changed in regard to lighting, and table comfort in that I had to sit on a couch that was much lower then my guests chair seating. In the end, the check total did not justify what is normally expected of this price range, which includes of the conformity I mentioned previously.

Food was excellent and the price was reasonable. It was loud in there so would not recommend for a romantic setting. Was not happy with the service. We were placed at a two person table (which was OK) in the main aisle and directly next to the lobby. We noticed other couples sitting at a 4 person table and saw one empty and asked to move. We were told they could not move us as it was reserved for a party of 4. Literally 3 minutes later they sat one couple at that table. It took the waitress a while to take our order and then the delivery staff kept bringing us items we did not order and they had to take back and they would bring our food to the table next to ours and try to give them our food so they need to get better organized. We made a 6:00 reservation and did not get seated until 6:25. In spite of that we did not let it ruin our food, the crem brule was the bomb!!!! Service just needs to improve.

I ordered a table 10 minutes before entering the restaurant, that all went smooth. We arrived at the restaurant and got a table 5-6min after waiting in the bar. The waiter took our order quickly. Around us were alot of noisy people with a too high noise level. We could barely hear each other talk through the loud talking, screaming and laughing from other tables. The food arrived quick, but we got food we did not order and it took a good 30 minutes, at least, before we got the right dish. Later we wished to order a miso soup and some rice. This took way longer than expected, and we had to ask for it at least one more time. Serving of water was messy, and we did not get a refill unless we asked for it. The food was ok, but there was a little bit too much spices. Overall this was a disappointing experience. The food arrived late, and wrong, lousy service, and too loud. At last we did get a 'discount' maybe because of all this mentioned.

There we chatted with the friendly bartenders before ordering a yummy drink (my favorite was the dragon martini with ginger), and ordered shishito peppers, edamame and delicious brussel sprouts on happy hour. Eventually the bartender learned it was my birthday and comped my first drink. I was already a fan of this place before the meal even started. The service was outstanding, our water glasses were refilled regularly. And the food recommendations were great. We loved the black miso code most of all, followed by the lemon salmon roll and the spicy tuna with crispy rice. Our server, Kyle, was most accommodating when he offered to print our show tickets for us when we realized we had little time before the concert we were attending afterwards. First, we were standing in front of her the whole time and second the place was so loud- how do they expect for me to hear my phone. \nOnce we were seated Jenny was very nice and attentive.

Went at lunchtime and it was pretty much deserted. Tables are really close together, to the point where it felt uncomfortable when someone got placed at the table next to me. Plus it was really hard to get out and leave! \r\nFood was excellent though. Awesome sushi and the rock shrimp was to die for. Potstickers were served in an interesting lattice, but ultimately horribly greasy to the point of almost being inedible.

We booked a 7 pm reservation, arrived 10 minutes early and were told we had to wait for the entire party ago arrive. Our son arrived at 7:05 and then we were told we had to wait until the next seeing time, maybe 15 minutes. I was upset because we had a theater date at 8. They seated us at the sushi bar (a party of 5) but within one minute the waitress and manager were at our table apologizing and sending food our way. They were sensitive to our time frame and very sorry that we made to wait and then to eat at the sushi party. Thanks to Aysha and her incredible wait staff for making our evening work after all. We will be back.

Music was way to loud to actually talk to my date I took with me, food wasn't anything special actually probably the worst sushi I've had in a long time. Server was nice but I could barley hear him when he spoke.\nFood took forever to come, also spicy and didn't warn you on the description, ran out of simple things like tempura shrimp by 7 on a Saturday night. We have been to this Katsuya many times and have always had really good service. Tonight, we were celebrating our son's 14th birthday. There were 7 of us (5 adults, 2 kids..6:30p dinner on a Wednesday night). Katsuya called to confirm the reservation at which time I asked if we could please have one of the little side rooms in the dragon room. She said that it shouldn't be a problem and would note the reservation as well as my son's bday. We arrive and the restaurant is fairly quiet (early for LA and it was raining). I reminded the hostess that we wanted the side room. She said she would check to see if it was available. They didn't seat us there and said it wasn't available . The side room remained empty for over 2 hours that we were there (not cool). The waiter didn't come to our table for over 10 minutes. Good news, we have eaten here many times and know the menu so we ordered our food and drinks immediately. There was only one cocktail and two soda orders that took 20 minutes for the waiter to bring over. Thank goodness for the water guy. Our food started coming out at first at a good pace and then it became super slow on the last 4 dishes (the last item which was a cold appetizer came 1 hour after everything else). We tried to keep it calm as it was a birthday celebration. The waiter came out and we asked if we could order dessert. He brought the menu and the kids ordered mochi which should have been super easy and out of the freezer. It came 15 minutes later gooey and melted with a candle in it. Finally another waiter came to check us and said our waiter was on break. At this point, we were just over it. So absolutely bummed out. I felt so bad for our son and our guests.

Disappointed in the vegetable tempura it was 90% mushrooms and some horrible red cabbage. Neither of us eat much rooms and our server didn't seem to care that we didn't eat it and charged full price. Not what I expected. She did however ask us to give a 5 star review to get a free dessert. It was good had creme brûlée. More attention to the needs of table and make sure food is okay, not assume it's fine. Prices are already higher and to not eat a plate I question they are just concerned about profit.

I spent some time checking out various reviews before going here, I must say in contrary to some reviews this place was worth it. The food can be pricey but remember this is Hollywood, reservation is better you won't have to wait for long to get in. The creamy shrimp was really good, the servers checked on us so many times and there was no moment we had to look for a server. The only downside is parking, again it's Hollywood, the valet parking is right in front of the restaurant for 13 bucks on a Saturday night. Also, the desserts; not a lot of option and the Katsuya pudding was on the heavy side, otherwise this fancy place is worth every penny. No Kids please!!!

Ordered 3 appetizers (crispy Brussel sprouts, baked crab rolls, spicy albacore sashimi), an entree (miso-marinated black cod), dessert (chocolate lovers cake) and coffee. Food and service was good. Came to celebrate the wife's birthday and see a play. Ordered two of the Chiefs choices. Delicious but a LOT OF FOOD for just two. No need to order additional dishes as we were suggested to do and did. \n\nTiming of bringing out food was off and we were unable to enjoy our desserts as we had to rush to see our show. Got the desserts wrapped to go hoping to maybe enjoy them after the show... but Pantages made us throw them out and no outside food allowed in. I made reservations to give us an hour and a half to enjoy our meal and it was not enough time. The table next to us also had to leave rushed and their food was slow coming out. They complained about the slow service and got their meal comped by management. We did not complain and they did nothing for us... somewhat of an odd way to treat two tables sitting right next to each that got sat at the same time. Especially after they let us know management was taking care of their bill for the slow food service. They were an older couple who said they were regulars and we are in our 30's and it was our first time there so maybe the difference? Give yourself plenty of time to eat. I used to be a server all throughout college so I hate to complain... but sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease I guess.\n\nLocation for the pantages theater is perfect as it is a walk right across the street. It was the nicest restaurant I could find near the theater with early Sunday reservations.\n\nOverall fun and delicious restaurant. We'll probably try something different next time as we see a show in Hollywood. Expect the same type of bill as going to a Maestro's or nice restaurant just a little disappointed in the experience. Heard the Malibu location is better.

Katsuya offshoots are opening up left and right. Dubai, Egypt, you name it... Yes, these restaurants are cool and hip (some are hipper than others...) and yes, the quality is relatively high (as are the prices) - but unfortunately the dishes are very uneven. It feels like the love and the attention to detail is gone. They seem to be more focussed on quantity than on quality. Their signature crispy brussle sprouts were bursting with intense flavors, while the pork belly and even the miso marinated cod felt bland and underwhelming. Based on Katsuya's reputation I am expecting more.

Came here on a Friday night. On a business trip for out of town, coworkers and myself wanted sushi close to the hotel. We made reservations for three for 9:30pm. Upon arrival, we realized this place was not for us. It's a very trendy and popular. Quintessential LA 'scene' with women and men dressed to the 9's. We felt out of place in our tradeshow, business casual attire. Even with reservations, we waited 30-40 minutes to be seated. Once seated, our server immediately asked us for our order. We asked if we could have a moment to look at the menu considering we just sat down. While she was attentive, our server was definitely on a mission to get us to order, eat and get out! We had to continually ask her to wait or come back. Unfortunately, with all her trips to the table, she neglected to notice our empty water glasses. The food is decent but overpriced for what it is. The atmosphere is vibrant and mostly young...or older gentlemen with very young female dinner dates. Overall, not the place for me. Would return for the Blackened Cod and cocktails but during daylight hours to avoid the trendy crowd.

Was in Los Angeles for the weekend from Phoenix and wanted to take my boyfriend out to celebrate his graduation from college. We were both really excited to try Katsuya after being recommended to us by one of my coworkers. Making the reservation online was easy, parking was fairly easy (for LA that is), and we were seated immediately upon entering. Waited for over 10 minutes for water, another 10 for our server to come and take drink orders, another 10 before receiving our drinks, and at least 20 minutes more for the appetizer. All told, we were there a solid hour before receiving our food. We had the cripsy brussels sprouts for the appetizer, albacore sashimi, special katsuya roll, and sunset roll. The food was really good, but pricey in my opinion for what you actually got. I was expecting a lot more. The bf and I both said we have had better sushi in Scottsdale for half the price at a place just as ambiant. What you really pay for here is the location in Hollywood and the 'cool' factor. None of the staff seemed too friendly or attentive, but not cold either, just sort of there. Waited far too long for the food. I'm sure there are both better sushi places in LA, and places with more ambiance for a better price. Save your money and head elsewhere.

Much confusion at time of check in for 6:30 reservation as we spotted two open seats at sushi bar which hostess said was OK to take only to be sent back to front by waiter saying hostess had to seat us there with menus-a couple of back and forths resolved this-(apparently must reserve seat as sushi bar as though its a table). Service was excruciatingly slow though it was busy. Overall the name hype and food just don't match up. Still, a nice choice before a show at Pantages as you can valet park at the restaurant and pick up car after the show.

Aside from our server forgetting our side steamed rice order, the service at Katsuya was excellent. The food came out pretty quickly. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! Our favorites were the crispy brussel sprouts and Wagyu style rib eye. Even the Prix Fix with simple Teri Chicken and Teri Beef were phenomenal. I wish we lived closer because we would definitely come back more often.

i'm from out of town and was searching for a sushi place for a lunch date with my bestfriend. katsuya came up as a top choice with lots of positive reviews. my flight was delayed arriving into lax, so we missed our reservation time and brought us into katsuya just as the kitchen was closing. however, i called the restaurant to see if they could accommodate us and the manager was more than helpful and understanding of the situation. he allowed me to place my order by phone before the kitchen closed and when we arrived the table was ready for us. top notch customer service and for food the reviews were accurate. thumbs up for the sashimi/sushi selection and fresh wasabi. if i find myself in hollywood again, this would be on my list of places to go.

I had a lovely time there on Valentines day; however the only thing I did not like is that they did not inform me when I made the reservation it was a set menu. I did not mind, but I did want to order more and if I would have known they were going to have a set menu I would have came on a night they didn't.

We are Nobu fans but decided to give Katsuya a try as judging by the critics, it seemed to be a better choice. We were thoroughly disappointed as the food, if lucky enough to be available, was not as exquisite as expected. I had ordered the Wagyu beef topped with foie gras and sea urchin sushi but the waitress came back 10 minutes later to inform us that not only were they out of foie gras but also of sea urchin.... So much for being able to savor these delicacies not so easy to find anywhere else. Anyhow, after having to change the whole wine pairing associated with my original order, we opted for the Omakase Tasting Menu. The service was at best mediocre. Different waiters brought us our dishes with no explanations of what we were being served.... (because it was a tasting menu, you are served the chef's specials without knowing in advance what they are.). We kept on having to be able to catch our regular waiter to request a description. Anyhow, we were not at all impressed by the place, and would go back to Nobu anytime before Katsuya.

I am not a big sushi person, but my date was. So I was hoping for a little more variety on the menu. otherwise, it was obvious they had the quality, high grade sushi. I thought it was a bit pricey, but maybe that is reasonable to expect in LA, especially the location, across from the Pantages theatre!

When you walk in to this restaurant, the first thing you notice is the warm recognition and welcoming. It's very relaxed and comfortable. The server was friendly and very responsive. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar. This enables you to interact with your sushi chef and get some great recommendations. We had 7pm reservations before an 8pm performance of Wicked. We were finally sat at 7:30, so we only had 25 minutes total for dinner. The waitress was great about rushing the order to get us out of there in time to catch the show, but the rushed experience was not what we had in mind when we made the reservations.\n\nAlso, the salmon sashimi was slightly frozen on the underside. We've eaten at the Downtown and Glendale locations where the food has always been exceptional. Other than the salmon the food met our expectations.

I'm a sushi snob, so please keep that in mind. this place is a cool hollywood fancy restaurant. but if you're into good sushi this is not the place to go. they got fancy drinks, fancy atmosphere, valet parking...if you want to take a date to impress, than maybe.... but if that date knows a thing or two about sushi, then tek them to Shintaro down the street.\n\nthis place is not a good sushi stop. their fish was fresh, but not that creative, or yummy. I had lunch with a date, we ordered 5 things and an appetizer and bill came to 100 with NO DRINKS.

We waited about 20 minutes to get our table even though we had reservations. Most likely because of the rush from the Pantages, but still it was a little annoying since we were trying to make a movie. At any rate the food is definitely not as good as the Encino location. This place just gets by on its good looks. Decent sushi, with a great and trendy atmosphere.

We had the best experience here at katsuya Hollywood! The happy hour was amazing with attention to detail and top quality sushi! Although we walked away still paying $200 it was worth it for the food! I would probably not order the sake again as that brought our bill up significantly and I know the price if the sake outside of the restaurant. I have visitors katsuya' since they have opened and have to say that they have up kept the restaurant and the food quality has actually gone up at this location... I've been to the original Katsuya in Studio City numerous times and this Hollywood location run by SBE just doesn't compare when it comes to the food. The crispy rice spicy tuna (a staple at Katsuya) was more like stale crusty rice with tuna mush and a jalapeno. We didn't even eat the last one. This was representative of other specialty dishes from the original Katsuya. I think they need to go back to Katsuya school.

Wonderfully fresh tasting sushi. I have had the most supreme sushi in Tokyo, Japan and it is difficult to compare California sushi to my experiences. This restaurant did well compared to others I've tried. Even though the menu was definitely Americanized, it tasted wonderful. However, the poor service overshadowed the taste. Some how one of our sushi orders was overlooked, I had to ask the waiter if it was coming (after it took me forever to get his attention). Sure enough they forgot, I asked it to go (we had a play to see and it was a vegetable sushi), he brought to me on a plate, I asked again to package. I explained we were in a hurry, it didn't seem to effect him. Finally, got the packaged sushi and the bill and he had charged me twice for that order! It should have been comped!!! I should have just cancelled that one order. When I go to a high end restaurant I expect great food (check) AND great service (no check). There won't be a next time, wasn't worth it.

We went to Katsuya Hollywood for an early pre theater dinner. It was perfect because we could valet at the restaurant ($18) and walk across the street to the theater after dinner. Valet at the restaurant also make it very easy after the theater to get the car at the restaurant instead of being stuck in the awful parking lots. But don't fall for the $30 and we'll have your car waiting for you curbside.\n\nThe food, service and ambiance here are outstanding but very expensive. Be prepared for a bit of a shock when the bill comes.

The service is excellent if you can get past the unfriendly hostesses at the reservation desk. We had a reservation and encountered some traffic so we called to let them know we would be 10 minutes late or so. They explained that they could only hold the table for 15 minutes. We arrived at exactly 15 minutes past our reservation time and they said they had given our table away. They seemed to take a bit of pleasure in it as well I am sad to say. I am happy to say that the Manager, Tessa, saved the day. She was extremely apologetic and made up for their bad behavior at the front. Amazing manager, amazing server and amazing food.

We were familiar with Katsuya, having patronized their Brentwood location. We thought we'd try the Hollywood location because it would be convenient to valet park there before going to see a show at the nearby Pantages Theater. (At its sister restaurant, Cleo, right up the street, you can park there for dinner and theater for a combined $10). However, we were surprised that there was no validation for the valet parking, and you pay the full price of parking there for the duration (about $18).\n\nThe restaurant itself was fine but pricey, with tasty food, good service, and noisy ambiance. One pleasant surprise was amazing The Brussels sprouts, the best I've had.

We arrived exactly on time for our 8PM reservation, and our OpenTable profile asks for no communal tables and, whenever possible, no banquettes. The hostess sat us at a banquette in a virtually empty room and when I asked why we were being seated at a banquette, she looked at me blankly and said, 'banquette??' as if she didn't understand the word. We asked to be seated at a booth (they were all empty) but were told that they were all reserved for a larger party coming in later. We ordered and the waiter told us to keep a menu at the table in case we wanted to order more. However, before all our food had arrived, he told us the kitchen would be closing soon and we had to order anything else immediately (it was 8:20 at this point). All the chefs behind the sushi bar were clearly closing down and by the time the check came, we were the only diners in the restaurant. We'd wanted to register our unhappiness with the hostess who seated us, but, of course, there was no one at the desk when we left.

The location and hip-factor of this place are great. My reservation was set for a certain time but we had to wait for up to or more than 45 minutes to actually be seated. The food was tasty, but we often struggled to get a server's attention and actually order despite our section not being too full. The guy bringing us our water was super on top of it, though. \n\nThe tuna on topped of crispy rice with jalapeno was good (although I tasted butter which the rice may have been made crispy with; I'm not a fan of butter and I definitely don't want to taste butter in sushi). I remember this sushi dish being super outstanding the first time I had it some years ago, however. \n\nThe two other sushi dishes we ordered were average-tasting to better-than-average-tasting. \n\nI recommend Katsuya Hollywood for the hip-factor and location, not particularly for the service.

We have been there before a few times. In general I find their menu and food quality good. The service is a bit spotty. They seems to have many people serving you but none of them appear to be accountable for what the other did or didn't do. The prices are jacked up unnecessarily for the pretentious Hollywood types. I also find the decor a bit dark and room too noisy to have a comfortable dining experience. You may ask why then would you keep on going there? Fair question. The answer is that it seems to be the only decent restaurant available within walking distance of the Pantages Theather and we go there to eat before a show.
