About Republique

République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

Everything we had was great: wonderful wine choices, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, foie Gras, burrata, escargot, BUTTER!, all delicious! The roast chicken (always a fave) was not as good this time. But we had a great time, with excellent service - can't wait to go back!

Republique came recommended and for this dinner date, we were seated in a cozy corner and the service was great, but I was disappointed with the food. The portions were small (the soup came in what looked like an espresso cup) and the ingredients tasted pretty fresh but lacked any subtlety which I expected for the price, especially given the portion sizes. I heard breakfast is good there so I'm curious to try, but I probably won't do dinner there anytime soon.

We were entertaining out of town foody relatives. We are old and asked for the quietest table. Were seated upstairs in a corner--GREAT! Knowledgeable personable waiter, excellent suggestions for a well-rounded selection of dishes and how long each took to prepare so how to sequence them. Good wine suggestion. Everything from bread and OH that butter! to a souffle for dessert was excellent. If we could only afford to we would eat there once a week!

Very average. Waiter kept pushing the chicken. We got it. It was $39 and probably the worst chicken I've ever had. He could tell we didn't like it because we didn't eat most of it and didn't seem to care.

Very highly regarded and didn't disappoint. Plates at designed share style. Portions are on the small side but food is rich - you won't leave hungry. Love the beignets, the pasta and the apple tart.

My wife and I have dined here before and loved the food. This time we brought our siblings and they were delighted at the variety and the taste of the food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to those who want a new experience at eating a wide variety of well prepared foods.

We had a reservation, and we came early to first have drink at the bar. When it was time for our reservation they just sat us at a 'bar' table, Not in the main dinning room! Very frustrating, felt like we were walk-ins without reservations. The cost is way over the top for the value of food, even though it is very good you can easily find same quality lower price many places in the neighborhood.

Service was extremely attentive. Food was seasonal and delicious. Meals are pricey and meant to be shared - great for a special occasion but probabaly wouldn't eat here regularly. Great ambiance and love the history of the building! The standout dish was the butternut squash agnolotti, which was accidentally delivered to our table. I wouldn't order the pasta with truffles again - at $50, I didn't think it was worth the price.

Hands down one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Our waiter was wonderful at explaining the menu and helping us make selections. Most of the items on the menu are meant to be sharable and several of them have portions on the smaller side so you can order 5-6 items + dessert (for 2 people) before feeling really full. The sweet potato beignets were delicious, the butternut squash ravioli was to DIE for. The dover sole was incredible. They have all of the courses perfectly timed so they all come out at intervals and you never have an abundance of food on the table at once. You have to place your entire order (appetizers to entree) at one time, since the entrees take about 45-min to prepare. The people next to us ordered some secret 'off-the-menu' item that they had read about on Yelp. I wish I had known what those items were as well - theirs looked so good!! \n\nBe on time - they have a pretty strict reservation policy and if you're more than 15 min late they will give away your table. They were extremely busy at 6pm on a Saturday night - it was VERY crowded, pretty loud, and the bar area where people were waiting became a bit of a congested space with patrons standing around. I definitely recommend asking for a table toward the back of the restaurant or you will be battling the crowd anytime you need to go to the bathroom.\n\nFood is pretty pricey, and if you're planning a really nice evening out (and you're hungry!) you can expect to spend upwards of $100 per person ...or more if you're ordering cocktails. Totally worth it if you're going to splurge for a special occasion.

A very special place. The space is so unusual and gorgeous that you feel like you are on vacation once you walk in the door. Its casual but chic, warm and inviting but also hip. The menu is fun and the food is excellent. Definitely start with the baguette and Normandy butter. The Burrata is prepared in an unusual way, perfect for winter. The chicken is divine and the roasted broccoli and cauliflower is absolutely delicious. Desserts were just ok (though we didn't order the apple tartan which probably is the best). It is noisy, so be prepared.

A little bit on the pricey side. Wine list by bottle only. Very tasty dishes perfect for sharing. Don't order the octopus salad. Came with 4 tiny pieces of octopus. Not even a whole tentacle. Great atmosphere and customer service. Fresh food with diverse tastes and creative takes on classics. Very laid back feel, so I wouldn't plan a corporate event here. More casual with friends or a date.

We went for dinner for my girlfriend's birthday and it was AMAZING. Each course was better than the last. The service was excellent and non-intrusive. We loved the Brussels sprouts and the burrata. Will definitely go again!

The scrambled egg toast topped with uni was as close to a perfect dish as we've had in a long time. Beef tartare, lamb ragout, and melt in your mouth duck breast were standouts. The kitchen is thoughtful in its mix of flavors and pays great attention to detail without being fussy. Our waiter was friendly but communication was challenged. We asked for more bread several times before we got any. The waiter told our sommelier the wrong choice for our wine selection. Maybe he couldn't hear us. The volume is pretty noisy. (We caught the mistake in time.)

To begin with, we were seated in an uncomfortable corner but. . .somebody has to sit there, after all. It was a very busy Tuesday evening. We started with a delicious cocktail and began to peruse the menu. The waiter assured us he was there to 'guide us' through our dinner but the only guidance we got was when he pointed out that the appetizer section was at the top of the right-hand column of the menu and that's where we should begin. Shortly thereafter he came by to find out if we'd be wanting a 'meat' because, if so, we should order it immediately or soon. We weren't sure yet but felt rushed to make a decision. We started with the seared foie gras which came with a few little slivers of salad and strawberries. No bread. Again, the waiter asked if we wanted a 'meat' so we quickly decided on duck and a pasta. We went on to order wine and a mixed charcuterie board with meats, cheeses, a couple of breads, some fruit, honey, mustard and a variety of pickles. It was quite good but when we were done we were nearing satiation and not particularly interested in two main courses we had been rushed into ordering. So much for putting your trust in a waiter who promises to 'guide' you through the menu. The duck was good but it came on a mish-mash of rice/wild rice/quinoa with a few other things tossed in. It was unappetizing. The pasta (lamb ragu) was uninspired.It could have been a much more enjoyable experience. It is a beautiful space.

Always outstanding! This was my third visit to Republique and we went with a pre-planned special Chef's Tasting Menu. Everything was well thought out and excellent, the server was incredibly knowledgeable and the staff excellent. The menu is every changing and I always look forward to trying something new.

Excellent service and food was incredible and creative. Didn't know what to expect but heard great reviews prior. The bartender took care of us sooner than we expected and made our wait time shorter and our night more memorable with my wife. Not one bad dish was served and the sommelier service was second to none. They anticipated our question before we asked and recommended the perfect wines for the mood and our taste buds the first time.

Republique was incredible, the food was delicious and the customer service was exceedingly spectacular. We had to eat quickly as we were going to an NBA game, our waiter went to great lengths to keep us happy, he printed our tickets for us as we are on vacation and didn't have access to one. Very happy with this! The food and drinks were also epic. Thank you!

Excellent but I just don't understand why cauliflower has to be $19 for the LOVE of God! Don't get me wrong the food is fantastic. Burrata was excellent, the cheese board was great. It's just something about paying crazy amounts for veggies irritates me. The ambiance was great, loud but fun. Don't recommend it for a quiet dinner with your significant other. Our waitress got lost a few times, probably because of numerous tables, the place gets packed and busy. The sommelier was very knowledgable. All in all I would go back but it would have to be on a business card expense. This way I can order the cauliflower and not roll my eyes on the price. Maybe then I could order a main course without going broke. For the noise level- 'energetic' is a nicer way than saying that you have to yell your conversation to your company or cup your ear to hear. Or maybe I have to get my hearing checked...it seems to be the 'in' thing....noisy restaurants.

I absolutely love Republique, the food is always delicious and the ambiance is just beautiful. Perfect for to celebrate any occasion, in this case it was my birthday with my family. \nChef Manzke is super nice and is always there when I go. Bonus! Got a picture with him. I always recommend Republique to anyone I know. \n\nBreakfast, BRUNCH (my fav), Lunch, or Dinner are all equally as delicious. LOVE LOVE LOVE REPUBLIQUE

Excellent service all around. Food not up to the hype. Quite good but not the best I have had by any means. Some creative dishes with nice 'plating' and great quality ingredients. To bad that prices are so high and portions are quite small. But one of the top 10 places in LA seems to be able to get away with it. So lets say it's a good place to be on a diet. Except of course for the salted caramel chocolate cake. Superb and worth the calories. Little Gem Salad was great and dressed perfectly with a classic green goddess dressing. Must get the bread and pan drippings. This is showing up on more places menus but they have a perfect baguette with just the right thick crust and the pan drippings were really more of a gravy. But excellent and pretty much you could just eat this and be happy with a beer chaser. Short Ribs were nicely presented, meat super tender, but the meat had virtually no flavor, other than , well, meat. Scallops were in a great sauce but there were two small ones, cut into quarters. never seen this done. Now I know why. Didnt look good. I want to see my beautifully seared scallops not poke around for them in the sauce.\n\nFront dining room is super loud. Back dining room much better. Very bright bare bulbs look cool but are annoying if you look at them. \n\nI applaud all restaurants that give employees health insurance and more of them should. HOWEVER, you should not charge more money for it as a surcharge! There is no accountability to this and at these near obscene prices for food and how huge and busy this place is, they really should be able to afford health insurance without making me pay extra. Just build it in if you have to . \n\nAll in all, worth coming if you want a special meal that is quite good but not a grand slam on the dishes we got. Not sure we will be back, but I do hear brunch is quite good if you don't mind waiting forever for a seat.

Loved the ambiance of this place. Open kitchen, lots of brick and glass and atmosphere. Some of the things we like incl. the squid salad (squid had a nice smoky flavor), the bread sticks, hiramasa crudo appetizer, main diver scallops (great!), cavatelli pasta ( a bit too al dente), and the cassoulet, which was rich, extremely flavorful and yet felt like something you would eat at a French farm. It was a bit salty, though.\n\nService was outstanding. The waiter was attentive, gave us great suggestions, but wasn't intrusive. A great, if pricey, experience.

I've been to Republique one time before for brunch, soon after it opened, & it was good, but I recommended this place for our gathering of 5 mostly because I wanted our out-of-country friends to see the location/building. \n\nI've loved this building since it was La Campanile. The interior has changed a bit, but thankfully the main structure is intact & still beautiful. The friends, being from the Philippines, appreciated that the interior had wrought iron imported from there. \n\nThankfully, the food & drink was even better than I remembered, & made this a triple win! The Mandarinquat drink was so good that I think the group consumed over 5 of them. The Lion's Share/Den (?) was also delicious. Foodwise, the favorites were Eggs on Toast, Hiramasa Crudo, Maine Diver Scallops, & the Aged New York Strip. We also had 4 different desserts that were all delicious - I think one was off-menu special for our guests - it was like a modern halo-halo. \n\nThank you for a memorable night!

Don't let the breakfast/bakery reputation fool you. This place is a hopping night spot, that's a fun buzzy scene if you want to feel out on the town. Service was a little bit in the weeds, but well intentioned. Drinks are excellent and main course portions are BIG (especially the chicken) so be careful how much you order. They even cooked us a full second serving of pasta to replace one that got picked up off our table too quickly when we weren't looking. Was a great way to kick of a birthday weekend in LA!

EPIC! I loved every dish, every wine, every amari (!). Chef Walter is so awesome and has built a neoclassic restaurant for the ages. I just wished that I lived in LA so that this place could be my hoodie. I will be back overtime that I am in the city.

For those over the age of 45, the noise level is beyond acceptable. Fortunately we, who are decades older than that, but still serious foodies, were seated in the back room which was the best option. If we do not return, it has nothing to do with the food, but rather with the ambience which we choose for dining out.

Got there 15 minutes early, had to wait (even if tables were empty) watching a guy expertly shucking oysters which made me want to order some. The oysters were great, the Cassoulet is humongous and delicious, I took the rest home and still had dinner for 2 days. Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake as dessert totally incredible.

Almost 2x price per portion compared to comparable quality restaurants--eg Tar and Roses. Erratic service, slow and ill timed. Vegas f-you expensive on a portion size basis: spent almost 200 dollars for 2 people and still needed to stop by fast food afterwards to finish dinner. Food good overall but some hot dishes were served almost cold. Felt like an Epcot center version of a certain sort of LA restaurant, with price inflation to match. Overrated.

Another great dinner at Republique. We were promply seated in the back room, our preferred location because of the lower noise levels and individual (not communal) tables. The lobster spaghetti, the ravioli and the little gem salad were especially delicious that night. And it's never possible to skip the Normandy butter and warm baguette!

Every dish was delicious!! Presentation outstanding!!!Very good portions!!!\nOnly negative: Too many people hovering. Barely finish plate and it is whisked away. The waiter or server was kind when they asked and we said no that we weren't done, but a little bit annoying.\nOtherwise wonderful!!!

Came in on time for a reservation made well in advance for a 9:45PM dinner and wasn't seated until nearly an hour later. There were empty tables that would've fit our party upstairs, where people were still dining. Terrible service from the hostesses.\n\nFortunately, our server was very apologetic and comped our desserts, and the food was great, albeit quite expensive. Would recommend for a small party (2-4) on a special occasion.

The food was absolutely divine. The menu changes daily but their homemade bread with Normandy butter is outstanding, as is their homemade parpadelle pasta which we had with black truffles. It was incredible. The food here will not disappoint.

The food and cocktails were great and served in a bustling clean parisian/industrial space. There were still people waiting for tables at 10pm. Which brings me to my next point. We hadn't even ordered dessert by 10pm and our reservation was at 715pm. The server was very nice and very accommodating with my allergies but the service is slow as molasses. That being said we were a group of 10 so perhaps it was our party size but I had heard the comment about service from others. Also since dinner took 4 hours it would have been great if we weren't seated on bar stools at a high table right next to the front door. All in all I would go again, but not on a weekend and not in a large party.

Everything was super amazing! Atmosphere , quality of food , variety of menu , service was very very attentive . One tip i don't know if it is a specialty of the place.the body of the pig was carried through the room and cut behind us that made my friend feel very sick and shocked . Not for everyone to see the scene I guess . May be less details would be better :) \nwill come back here for sure !

Love this place for breakfast and brunch - it can't be beat! But for dinner, and especially a business dinner, I was disappointed.\n\nThe food was good but mostly not great. And the prices associated with certain dishes really didn't align with portion sizes, which were far too small.\n\nThe drinks, esp. the champagne we ordered, were very good and it helped to have a good Som explain to us what we were drinking.\n\nThe communal table was not good for a 6 person client dinner. Given that the restaurant has regular tables, I was surprised that they chose to a) seat us at a communal table and b) that they let others sit with us, given that there were only 2 spare seats. It made it difficult to discuss business openly.\n\nThe waitress was pleasant-ish, but overly aggressive in forcing herself into a conversation. For a restaurant that bills itself to be on the higher end of things, the wait staff need to pick their moments and our waitress was awful in picking her time to take orders or give advice.\n\nOverall, I'd say that this is a good place if you're not doing business and have a smaller group.

Disappointing experience. Hard, uncomfortable chairs, very rushed service, food did not meet expectations. The charcuterie plate and pasta with truffles were the best thing we ordered. Eggs on toast, cassoulet, duck and steak tartare were bland and uninspired. The chocolate cake for dessert was fine but nothing to rush back for. The people sitting next to us sent their octopus salad back since there wasn't one piece of octopus in their salad. The salad looked horribly overdressed. Wine list mark up is ridiculously high. Even the cocktails didn't measure up. Had to request olives for my martini. Service and food were not commesrate with the price point. I'll use my calories and hard earned money wiser at Ink, Lucques, Spago or so many other LA choices. No more Republique for our group of 4!

The food was very good, but the overall evening was disappointing due to the uneven service. Food runners would drop of the courses with either a very rushed explanation, or no explanation at all. We had to wait 20 minutes for our final course to be delivered. Not a good value. Clientele seemed to be more tourists than locals. I would not return.

One of my favorite restaurants in LA. The food is creative, and consistently excellent. The ambiance is lovely, the service is on point, and I'd definitely say the cocktails are some of the best I've had. And don't miss the dessert, the Halo Halo is delectable. Don't hesitate on going to Republique, you won't regret it...

Good food but dreadfully expensive to dine in the evening . Portions were small even for sharing . A member of our party had ordered soup---- it came last and only after prompting. The wine list was outrageously priced and after visiting the Bordeaux vineyards ourselves last year we know the pricing was way over the top. Overall a disappointing experience.

Extremely small portions (2-3 oz of cod) for very high prices ($32-$36). Escargot average and over-garlic-ed. BEst things was scallops, and *reasonably* priced in comparison to other menus items. Brussels sprouts salad tasty with chunks of bacon rather good. Drinks and service excellent. Late seating and still had to wait 15 min past reservation. Basically overpriced but standard for trendy LA restaurant. If you are hungry, avoid. If you are snacking/eating lightly and enjoy cocktail scene, then this a decent choice. Republique should offer some sort of bread/butter complimentary starter to offset small portions.

Republique shined again - the menu and service were both excellent. The only qualm I have is that the food took a very long time to be prepared. We were seated at 5:45 pm and didn't end up leaving the restaurant until 8:45 pm. Granted, we took about 20 minutes to order our food, but that still leaves well over 2 hours for the food to be prepared and eaten.\nI don't mind when a restaurant takes the 'continental' approach to slow service - but it's nice when the staff gives you a heads-up so you don't end up having to bug them several times to make sure the kitchen didn't lose the tickets.

When we arrived at the restaurant, they didn't have enough staff in the parking lot. The line of cars was out onto the street and we all stood around waiting for the valet to tear tickets. The food and the service are excellent. The portions are quite small more like what you would get in a tasting menu. But the food is tremendous. We had the hot foie gras which was delicious but seemed very light. We also had a nice fish and a pasta with mushrooms, outstanding. We had a couple of other dishes that we really enjoyed. They charge for bread which might make you get fuller. Yes it was expensive and yes the portions were really small and yes I would go back in a heartbeat

Republique is a great restaurant. We had the steak and fries, the salted caramel chocolate cake, the bread with Normandy butter and drippings, the escargot appetizer, and the cauliflower appetizer, and that was enough for two people. We had an intimate table in the back, if you are on a date, I would ask for a table in the back, or otherwise the restaurant has communal seating in the front with long tables which I did not want for a date with my wife. The service was friendly and informative, and the server suggested and recommended what we ate, and knew the menu well. If I had to recommend dishes, the cauliflower was out of this world, the steak and fries was excellent with the steak tender and melted in your mouth, with the fries tasty with the right amount of crispness, and the bread, butter and drippings were fabulous with the cake chocolaty with the right amount of caramel. The escargot was excellent, but not on the same level as the other dishes. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone. It is very affordable the food, the alcohol is very expensive but you can bring your own wine with a a corkage. I would not hesitate to go back again and recommend to others.

Brought my mother here for a special pre-Christmas dinner and our hostess even pulled out the chair for my mom to sit. I have been to this place a few times. With a girlfriend or two, and once with my husband for dinner and drinks. It's lovely. Staff is friendly, as well as the bartender. Food is pretty prompt. Good wine list. Can get busy, so I'd recommend getting a reservation. Nice architecture and nice atmosphere!

After eagerly anticipating a meal here it was disappointing on most levels . It was NYE , however it was not ' crazy - busy ' when we arrived . We were seated early for our 8:30 reservation which was nice . Server was an older guy -obviously stressed out - and trying to act like a ' millennial ' , which was ridiculous . He swooped over to the table , plunked menus down , TOLD us how fortunate ' we were ' to be there and have the ' opportunity to have this dining experience ' , excuse me ? No offer of drinks , just a speedy dropping of menus , a delivery of their filtered water , and an obvious impatience that we did not have questions about the menu , or were ready to order ' yesterday ' . When we were able to order drinks he was obviously ' displeased ' and whipped the wine glasses away in a dismissive way that It was apparent to both of us that he was expecting a wine order from the MOST overpriced wine list I had seen since dining at the Ritz in Paris , and this was as far removed from that as possible . One statement I recall when we were still perusing the menu was ' when you're ready to discuss the menu let me know ' What ? How could you when ' he was immediately off to the races and darting about ?' He stressed that 'Everything is shared ' , well excuse me my husband does not eat everything I do , and since when did this absurd LA pretension start ? It's simply a way to ' build the check ' , and impose their dining ' ideas ' on the paying public . When we placed our orders we ordered three apps , two main courses , and a decent French white Bourgogne , one of the VERY few bottles on the list that was not hundreds of dollars , there were I believe 2 or 3 glasses that were not $35 - to $ $60 and up per glass - 4 - 4/12 oz pours for those prices , ludicrous , especially in a noisy , non-fine dining environment , that was chaotic the entire time and $ 300 before tip . If you are 23 , like to text, just got a raise , and don't know fine dining , do dine here asap

We had a reservation and we're made to wait 10 mins to be seated, meanwhile two sets of customers checked in after us and we're seated immediately. We thought maybe this was because the table wasn't ready, but that turned out to not be the case. Really wanted to love the food as I have heard from friends that the restaurant was great. \nA big disappointment, the food was good, it was not great. \nSad to say we won't be back.... there are just too many great restaurants in LA for us to spend a few hundred dollars on dinner and not have a great culinary experience.\n\n*must be noted* our waiter was outstanding!!

Has been on our list to try for a long time and glad we finally tried it. Everything was very delicious. The portion sizes are on the smaller side so you can order more appetizers and entrees than at a traditional restaurant. The restaurant is quite large. Tables are relatively close together so the noise level is moderate. Food is on par with Nobu/Providence.

My husband and I had our first visit to Republique a few weeks ago on a Monday night. Food was very good but the service slow, inconsistent at best to the point that a beautifully prepared and finished Dover Sole was stone cold by the time it was boned 'table side' and served on dirty plates that still had vinaigrette from the salad course. Meanwhile, the potatoes and butter sauce that were to be served with the fish were sitting on the table getting cold. The wine took a very long time to arrive (nearly 1/3 of the way through the meal) and the same with the coffee for the dessert course. The cake was served and consumed before the coffee was served. All of the food was quite good, but for the price I would expect not only much better service, but also the food to stand out more. Definitively, they got the candle on the birthday cake right, and for this I thank them. Nice touch.

The food was very good - although the plate sizes vary widely so it is hard to order the proper amount of food. The waitress did tell us that the plates got 'more robust and heavier' as you go down the menu, but there are some big jumps. For example, the diver scallops are just a few bites, while the bouillabaisse would constitute a meal in itself, and the cassoulet could feed two easily. But all were very tasty and we just took home the leftovers. Our only complaint was the seating. We had a 5:30p reservation (opening time), and were seated at a table for two along the wall in the main dining room. A few minutes later, another couple was seated right next to us - and both were very loud talkers, which detracted from our enjoyment of the otherwise nice surroundings. There were other tables along the same wall that remained open for at least an hour, so we would have appreciated the space - at least until it got too busy to accommodate that. Give yourself time, though - our dinner took about 2 hours, but was very enjoyable aside from our noisy neighbors.

31st wedding anniversary. Wife and I have been looking for 'the perfect French restaurant in LA'. Republique was very good. Definitely worth a visit. Worth a drive. Ambiance was amazing. Food was great but not the 'wow' we've been looking for. They encourage sharing so 4 to 6 people would be fun. Definitely returning with friends. Sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful.

If I had a complaint was that I was sitting against the wall with product and it was odd to be eating and having someone come pull a bottle of balsamic off the shelf over us. But they were charming. Always a crowded spot, great food and fun bar, more of a friends spot than a date night. Too noisy for a business dinner or a romantic date, but it's a fun, hip hang out. Our meal at Republique was awesome! As we payed the check, I was already trying to figure out when we could return. It's spendy, but worth it. We had a group of 7, which was the way to go. This way we were able to try a large portion of the menu, because we shared everything. I'd say the actual entrees were my least favorite part of the meal (chicken and cassoulet in particular) and so I'd stick with the small plates next time around. Our sommelier, Joseph, was amazing! We opted to bring our own wine and pay corkage and he made sure to still tell us about our wine, swap out glasses based on what we were drinking and made great recommendations for food pairings and additional bottles. I was pleasantly surprised at the prices on their wine menu too. It wasn't posted online, so we weren't sure what to expect, but they have a handful of $30/$40 bottle if you're not looking to break the bank. Will definitely be back.

Been to Republique once before this past visit and wanted to return although the service was inattentive and dismissive the first time as well. However, this last visit was abysmal and will probably be my last visit to this restaurant. When you've been gratuitously offered the same complimentary dish (butternut squash pasta) two weeks in a row for poor service, there's an obvious problem. At least the food was good enough on our first visit to warrant a return. However, the food Thursday night ranged from passable (the cavatelli pasta which was my favorite dish during my first visit was only ok this time around) to poor (the grey and bloody foie gras, the crudo, the unseasoned little gems salad (also a favorite from my first visit), the snapper that still had boneS (yes plural) in it that stabbed my gums) with only one solid stand-out (the uni and eggs on toast which we ordered twice). I was actually embarrassed to have suggested this restaurant to my husband's business associates who love fine dining. I regretted cancelling our reservations to Animal to come here instead (it was the seduction of a full bar). We had to order drinks from the bar since our waiter was nowhere to be found. Later, a hostess explained that our waiter had unexpectedly left. They were explaining to yet another irate table that their computer system was down. We had to reorder our food three times since no one knew what we were still waiting on. The dishes came out in no particular rhythm--sometimes three plates crowding our table and other times a full 20 minute gap between courses. It took over three hours to complete our meal which is only acceptable if your totally satisfied after the experience. This felt like the beginning of the end for Republique. I was embarrassed for them. Also, if you're going to offer a complimentary dish to compensate for your diners' bad experience, it should be something we ordered, rather than something we neither wanted or enjoyed.

Fantastic restaurant and well worth the $ and calories! Service is always excellent and, although not cheap, the love that goes into their dishes make it well worth the extra money you'll spend to have a perfect experience throughout (and the leftovers a treat to look forward to the next day). Entree portions large enough for at least two people to share. We always get two entrees, along with a couple of side dishes, so we get some variety and are guaranteed to have leftovers. The pumpkin soup was perfection in a bowl, their Mary's chicken is the best roasted chicken dish I've ever had (and the leftover breast was still moist the next day upon reheating). The rib-eye is a hearty portion and comes with two sides (a vegetable/cheesy yummy goodness and crispy french fries [presumably cooked 2-3 times to reach that level of crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, perfection]). And, the broccoli/cauliflower side almost made me want to become a vegetarian (until our entrees showed up, that is). Our waiter, Zach, was knowledgeable and charming and made our night even more special. And, you must order their bread (with pan drippings, if you do pork, or Normandy butter, imported from France, if you don't). They're also incredibly accommodating when it comes to food restrictions, such as not doing pork in dishes listing bacon, and allergies (such as no Cilantro). We even bought some extra butter (and a few desserts) up at the front to take home with us. Republique is truly a gem!

This restaurant has long table dining (some would call it communal.) Our party of three opted for the more traditional table for four in the back of the house. We found it to be just right for us. The style of small shared plates works here since there are so many yummy things to try . We had 7 plates in all including the freshest oysters and the tastiest escargot Then on to duck breast, heavenly halibut and, of course, a little pasta. Two vegetable dishes kept us 'healthy.' The prices do add up but since it was my birthday and I didn't see the bill, I was happy. Great service, by the way!

I called a day before to see if they still had Cassoulet on the menu. The hostess asked the chef and they put it on the menu for the next day. The Cassoulet was cooked to perfection ! French comfort food at it's best ! The beans were so creamy and the pork was fork tender and sausages were smoky and amazing. It was such a generous portion, so we had to take half home. Every bit as delicious as we heated it up for another meal the next day ! Service is also amazing at Republique. Also their take on the Halo Halo dessert is creative, delicious and brings back memories ! It's a must order !

Was disappointed with the salty food when I went with huge expectations due to friends recs. First off, they didn't have the dungeoness crab pasta on the menu at all (should they at least notify patrons on the website or something?)! Secondly, after tasting their cavatelli and short ribs, I won't be going again to try even the dungeoness pasta. Wow! I have eaten at mandy fantastic places in the last couple of years, but Republique absolutely ranks at the top. From the minute we walked in and took in our surroundings I had a good feeling. Once we were seated we never lacked attention. Our fantastic waiter came and crouched by the table, instead of talking and standing over us, and explained how this menu can be taken as is or merely as a suggestion if we had any food aversions. Nothing was set in stone. Although unless I had a food allergy, which I don't, I would not presume to know more about designing food as this revered chef does. OK, so what did we have - Fois Gras Torchon Toast, Gioia Burrata Crostini, Grilled Octopus Salad, Cauliflower & Broccoli, Spinach Pasta with Truffle, a Ragout Pasta, and the Short Rib. I didn't' love the pasta dishes, but the husbands loved them! I can't wait to get back and try a whole new set of dishes, although I would probably order a few all over again.

Were rescheduled due to restaurant being fully booked the week before. When we arrived we waited to be seated for our 8 pm reservation until 8:30. We said it was a special occasion and they tried to seat us at the table next to the host stand. After we got a new table it was almost 5 minutes until we got menus and another 5 for our waiter to greet us. Our waiter was nice enough, but was not great at his job. 3 requests for bread went unanswered. He forgot the dipping sauce for the baguette despite highly recommending it, and once he realized we weren't going to order desert we got the cold shoulder. He literally dropped the check without saying a word. Well, that is, until our waiter realized my wife was a casting director. Then he tried to sell himself as an actor and said that, 'he doesn't care about this f*cking job.' Not what I want to hear from my waiter, that he doesn't care about serving us. \n\nThe food was superb but the service from the moment we arrived was lackluster at best. I hope that your restaurant will improve after this feedback.

I made a reservation at 7:30 but later changed it to 8:15. However after I arrived the lady at the front desk told me 'no one has moved your reservation to 8:15' with a rather commanding voice. She asked me to wait and said they would seat me asap. But it took them 40mins to seat me even though I did nothing wrong in this process. Poor service

We recently celebrated my wife's birthday at Republique. Our service which included our sommelier was outstanding! Even though we were very early, our hostess was very friendly and we were seated within 20 minutes following our arrival. We started with a cheese platter with cheeses recommended by our server. All were fabulous! We next choose the roast chicken to share which was delicious and reminded us of roast chicken we had in Paris. To celebrate my wife's birthday, they brought a complimentary chocolate cake with a candle which made my wife very happy! \n'Happy Wife, Happy Life'! A big 'Thank You' to all at Republique for outstanding service, outstanding Food and for making my wife feel special. We definitely will return!

Great ambiance and very modern decor, this eatery provides eclectic menu that I found somewhat overpriced. We had good service and enjoyed featured pasta dish and short ribs. The salad had much too much sesame seeds ad pine nuts in it but the dressing was delicious and ingredients very fresh. It was our first time there and we very much liked this place. It appears to have quite the following as both table beside us had long-time patrons.

Clutch ending, read til the end, or just skip to the end. Went here for my wife's birthday. The place was so busy, I'd even say booming, that it was difficult to move around (even just going to the bathroom), and there was actually a line for the *men's* bathroom. Because of how busy it was, the noise was definitely more than I like for a dining experience. The service was also slightly slow, because of the business of the place. \n\nThat being said, I would come back to this place in a heartbeat. The food was simply that good, fantastic even. The server was knowledgeable and very friendly, the sommelier was outstanding. Bottom line, definitely worth the cost, and the crowds.

We came down from the Bay Area and our adult children came from NYC to spend Thanksgiving holiday together. Our dinner at Republique was one of the highlights of our entire trip. From the minute you walk into the space, you knew you were in for a magical event. Service was amazing. Alisha was our server and she knew the entire menu and how we should order. Our sommelier was Joseph and he served the wine perfectly. The food was served as if we were part of a Broadway play We were never rushed and from the bread at the beginning to the bread pudding at the end...it was a well tuned orchestra!!

République recommends sharing items rather than simply ordering a meal, which was a wonderful way for our family to build a shared, multi-course meal. The widely varied selections meant there was something for everyone. The food was inventive, of the highest quality, and expertly prepared. Our only regret was that we did not have the twenty minutes to wait for the bread pudding to be prepared for dessert. The baked Alaska was a more than tolerable substitute.

We had mixed feelings about Republique. Even thou it feels like you are eating in an overcrowded bar, some of the menu items were rather interesting. We liked the green pasta dish and the wine was rather nice... \n\nOverall if you are in LA you should visit this place just to experience it yourself. It is not for everyone, but people who can appreciate this type of dining will certainly be pleased with the experience..

The service was a hair less professional than on past visits. The Cassoulet was full of beans and could have been better balanced. The Halo Halo dessert was a gift from the Gods. The Avion Poularde (a mini-bird flown out from some fancy farm out East at $98) was hard to take serious let alone order. Maybe this was for Anderson Cooper's Mum only. Too many other hot spots for a top flight spot to falter.

Growing up in LA one of my favorite places to go with my folks was Robaire's, on 3rd and La Brea, back when French food was pretty much the go-to for a nice dinner out. Top choice was the cassoulet - a steaming cauldron of funk including everything but the kitchen sink - fat white beans, goose sausage, lamb, chicken, you name it topped with a stifling smother of gooey white cheese. Robaire's is long gone, as are just about every other French restaurant, but Republique - located a few blocks down south - may just do it even better. A massive tureen of this classic 'peasant' dish big enough to feed an army of Monty Python extras featured perfectly cooked duck leg, smoked sausage of some kind, sweet tomatoes, and everyone's meat du jour - pork belly - tender beyond reasonable expectations. Other dishes were great too - sea bass with a variety of mushrooms (and a fair blast of salt), broccoli and cauliflower with hummus and dukkah spice, cute little croute-topped egg cups with escargot buried down below - but that cassoulet...if only my parents were around to taste, I bet they'd agree it's maybe even better than my mom's. Maybe, Don't sweat how insanely noisy this place is, just focus on the food and solicitous service and you will be most pleased.

We had a fantastic experience at Republique for this recent birthday dinner. We made a reservation for 8 PM, arrived around 7:30, and were seated at 7:50. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food was absolutely divine. The food is arguably more pricey than a lot of other restaurants, but I truly believe it's worth the money, along with the great service.

Republique is definitely in the list of LA Food Scene Hype Places. Went for a birthday celebration, had some refreshing drinks from the bar. Every dish was delicious and we could tell the kitchen used quality ingredients. Portions definitely were on the smaller side considering everything was meant to be shared. The Chicken Entree was stewed in a delicious broth but the kale that accompanied it was heavy on the salt.

We got 6 dishes, which was about right, but the quality was not what we expected from the price and ambitions of this restaurant. Out for a special occasion, decided to try Republique. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we had a wonderful experience. The hostesses, our server Ariel, even the bus boys were professional and made this experience so enjoyable. As for the food...one dish after the other, we shared many options, was a gourmets delight! Absolutely fantastic dinner! I hands down have this on my top LA restaurants. The spot prawns were delicious, the corn Angliotti is a must. If you love bread, the meat drippings are insane. I had booked a dinner reservation 3 weeks ahead of time, requesting a seat in the back area of the restaurant beyond the communal tables, in anticipation with a great dinner with my niece whom I hadn't seen since she was a young child. I was surprised to be told only a small table in the bar table with small elevated hard wooden seats was available. The location was an abomination with people constant bumping into the back of my chair from the nearby bar area. The noise level precluded any sort of meaningful conversation. I've dined at this restaurant perhaps 4 times in the past year & was sorely disappointed in the preparation of most of our dishes which were not nearly as tasty as in the past. I doubt I will be returning.

Pasta was undercooked at first but they immediately remade them, good attitude and professionalism.\n\nPricing: Dinner for 2, $150 incl tip, pricy. \n\nMost likely will go back for lunch/brunch but probably not for dinner.

Wow! Great food. Taste explosion with every dish. Waiter recommended that we work our way down the menu with tapas style dishes. 3 of us ate 8 small dishes and then shared an entree. Everything was excellent. \nFavorites: Grenache by the glass was fantastic. Beignets were a great start. French bread w pan drippings is the way to go if you like bread. Brussels sprouts were intense. Short ribs with carrots and pork bellies was a hit with us all. \n\nThis place is expensive, but the food lives up to the price. It's loud inside - not a bad thing though. I plan on going back the next time I'm in LA.

The ambiance alone is amazing. In the same building, they were able to accomplish: quiet and romantic with great lighting, to an entertaining hustle and bustle between staff, the customers and the oyster shuckers. The back dining room (where I was seated) was dim, more quiet and romantic, high ceilings and even an upstairs dining area. The dining area in the front was more communal and visually stimulating because of the open kitchen view and the communal tables. It was a bit more loud and casual. I loved it all! \n\nThe food. OMG the food. My absolute favorite part of my meal wasn't the wonderfully seared and seasoned Foie Gras but the butternut squash agnolotti. They were little pillows of heaven sautéed in brown butter and sprinkled with shavings of Parmesan and pistachio heaven. The simplicity of this dish and how it highlighted the flavors of the butternut squash was truly comforting and nostalgic of fall. The roasted chicken over greens, fingerling potatoes, and pearl onions were sooooo good. I would've liked to explore the menu outside of a simple roasted chicken but my date wasn't as adventurous as I wanted her to be. I took the safe route and ordered the chicken. I don't regret it. I will definitely be going back with either my fellow chef friends or with someone willing to eat octopus lol.

Such a great restaurant! The service was perfect as was the food. The chef apparently goes to the farmers market every morning to find the freshest ingredients, so the dinner menu changes pretty frequently (but the lunch menu stays relatively the same). The chef's wife is Filipino so the chef tries to incorporate southeast Asian flavors.\nI went with a couple of friends and we got the Brussels sprouts, hamachi crudo, rusticella, and pork tenderloin. Everything was amazing!!! The hamachi crudo had a Thai flavor, the rusticella came with crab and it was a bit crunchy, and the pork melted in my mouth!\nOur waiter was super helpful and attentive to us. Loved him!

My wife and I enjoyed the food and the service both of which were outstanding. We shared all of the plates family style. The hamachi and the short ribs were outstanding as can also be seen in some of the reviews. If you want less noise while dining it is recommended that you ask for a table in the rear of the restaurant. Otherwise the place is great and we will visit it again.

The appetizers were great, unfortunately the three mains were fair are best.\nOne main course with risotto and marrow, has luke warm to cold marrow.\nThe second main, duck breast, was nothing special and the third main, spare ribs, \nwas good but not great. Given the price and lack luster main courses we were under\nwhelmed. The next day we discussed our different perceptions and all agreed it is over\npriced and over credited, we would for the same or less money chose a different place \nnext time.

Everything about Republique is amazing. Everything on the menu is great, service is always excellent, and the restaurant is beautiful. If we lived closer we would pop in at least once a week for dinner.

The interior is beautiful from the start. Love the windows and rustic yet modern feel to everything. Went with my boyfriend and had a perfect meal. The service was great–our waiter was enthusiastic and super knowledgeable. In terms of food, we started with the smoked salmon toast and burrata crostini. Both amazing. The blood orange in the crostini really completes it. For our main dishes, we split the short ribs and torchietti. The torchietti tasted impossibly fresh. The short ribs were amazingly tender and the side veggies complemented them perfectly. Ended with vanilla panna cotta. Amazing.

I ate here with friends a few months ago and knew this was the place I wanted to bring my husband for our anniversary. \nIt was amazing again! The steak was cooked perfectly. The charcuterie board was delicious. Dessert and coffee the perfect finishing touch!\n Our waiter Shalimar was a gem. Attentive without hovering. Has a great demeanor and was knowledgable about the menu.

We were out with friends celebrating a birthday. There were 5 of us. We arrived a bit early so we ordered drinks at the bar. Shortly after ordering our cocktails, we were seated in the center of the restaurant where you can see everything going on. There is a lot of energy in this space. After being seated, we met our lovely server, Shalimar. He was so gracious. He explained the menu in great detail which made ordering very simple, even with so many options. \n\nWe started off with the bread and pan drippings (imagine all of their cuts of meat, slow roasted and all of the yumminess at the bottom of the pan...that's what this was), octopus salad, beef tartare and charcuterie board (the duck liver mousse was so good, I wanted to just eat this up with a spoon, no bread necessary). We were not shy at all. The pan drippings were so amazing, we ordered another. Plus, they are not stingy with the crusty baguettes. We must have had a full size baguette for each of us. We then had the braised short rib dish (order the large, it's that good!), cassoulet (pork belly, sausage, duck confit, so much goodness) and the pasta carbonara with a duck egg. We ended the evening with another round of cocktails, the olive oil ice cream, the warm chocolate fondant with an abundance of hazelnuts, and the salted caramel chocolate cake (birthday boy's favorite). On our way out, we also picked up this almond meringue situation, a brownie and a chocolate cookie (both crunch and chewy...how do they do this???).\n\nThe service, the drinks, and especially the food were so impressive. And the price for everything that we ordered was extremely reasonable for what we ordered. Took a friend from out of state here for a special night out. I had a reservation and because of a Laa traffic I was running late. I called and they indicated they hold the table for 20 min, good to know. \n\nArrived and got seated promptly. Our waitress was prompt and had excellent drink suggestions, my dates drink was stiff but that' was a good thing. We we then went on to order : chickpea beignets and charcoal grilled octopus salad to start. Both excellent choices. Next was our main dishes, these took longer to come out but that's understandable. I ordered the rack lab and thine, this was just divine. My date ordered the duck confit and that had such a great movement of tastes I was amazed. At the end the portions were ideal and both my date and I were both stuffed. Excellent again!

I loved it! The interior! The food! The service! I only wish they have more options for non alcoholic drinks. Especially in here, in Los Angeles, where everyone at the healthy diet. I am just back from my trip to Dubai and they have huge selection of non alcoholic tasty fresh drinks from juices, and many different kinds of tea and coffee. And their juice mixes taste almost like with alcohol but have zero alcohol and taste fresh and tasty at the same time! I would suggest to get cold pressed juice machine and start to offerer healthy juicy mixes. Check menu of any Dubai restaurant how many juice mixes they have! Check 'The One and Only' and I would pay $10-15 for fresh tasty cold pressed juice drink.

Had so looked forward to our evening at Republique. Love the restaurant, decor, vibe. Our service seemed slow to slower. Waiters didn't seem overly busy - unless they were attending to the two big tables of Yelpers. Had to ask for refills of beverages and noted that there was no attention to re-filling our wine glasses. Waitress was friendly though.\nFood was not exceptional - but the French bread was the best. Probably worth a return visit for the bread.

We knew the food would be excellent before we ever dined here, and we were not disappointed. We had a very nice meal and will likely return. The food is of impeccable quality and the presentation on point. A couple things--they service was slow. Yes, they were jammed packed even at 10 on a Friday night, but with the cost to dine here, I expected more attentive service. The food warrants a higher price tag for sure, but I feel the prices are on the high side and could come down a tad. (Or the service can come up a tad?) Regardless, it was a great meal and the space is beautiful.

Our first time at Republique and we were blown away. Our server William made our experience over the top! He was outstanding in every way. It was my wife's birthday and she was having difficulty with the aromas of the food due to her pregnancy. William was very understanding and tailored our service needs for her comfort. I appreciated that so much as did she. We will definitely be back again. It was a pleasure to our palates and my thank you to the Chef and his wonderful staff!

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the food - one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Standouts would be the butter with bread (just amazing house-made butter), the rigatoni, the short-rib and the tapioca dessert was phenomenal. \nSeemingly understaffed though. We arrived slightly early for our booking and were asked to wait at the bar, couldn't get the attention of the bar staff for 15 mins. A seat finally opened at the bar and we were told we couldn't sit there. A strained first impression. We then had about 5 waiters/managers take orders/welcome us but couldn't get the attention of anyone for the rest of the evening. Finally got the attention of the manager who couldn't recommend a red wine and instead said she would 'go get the Som', but they never arrived. I would recommend getting a bottle of wine so you can be self-sufficient than waiting on getting someones attention to get another drink with your next course.

This is one of the hottest restaurants in LA, period. The staff (from the hostess, to the bartenders, to the servers, to the busboys) go out of their way to provide an enjoyable experience. I've been several times and their service is consistently outstanding. Then there is the food and drinks. You can't go wrong with whatever you pick and the menu gives you a reason to go back to try something different. A true gem!

Amazing food, great service and beautiful restaurant. Its a better place to go with a party of 4 or more since if it's two, they will only seat you at a two top. They put us in the back of the restaurant in a dark corner. I told them it was our anniversary but really, in a dark corner. Then they moved us at the bar area and my husband was looking out on La Brea. The valet moved his car out in front of the restaurant on the street so he could look at me or the car, LOL!\nI would go again but not for a special occasion.

We had a wonderful evening at Republique, celebrating our wedding anniversary. We had been in this beautiful space before, when it housed other restaurants, but had not been to Republique. We were seated in the back, at a banquette with a chair facing it, and it was quiet enough for conversation. The lively bar area probably would have been too noisy for us but the people out there looked like they were having fun. The baguettes and Normandy butter, the market salad, the yellowtail toast, the frites and Mary's organic chicken were all fabulous and so was the huge chunk of chocolate cake with salted caramel frosting. Portions were large and we took food home. Our waiter, Anthony, steered us through ordering enough and not too much, and the wine manager, Taylor Parsons, was gracious and helpful. It is expensive but not more than other restaurants of its caliber, and the portions are very generous. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The whole experience was positive.

I made a reservation, confirmed it and requested patio , said they couldn t guarantee but would have nice table. Instead we arrived and offered us communal table only otherwise said we would wait an hr. We were treated poorly and i would recommend that others know this. The best baguette in Los Angeles. I come here for the bread and how great the sommeliers are regarding BYOB. The dishes are always fun and delicious!! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. If this was located closer to my house I would want to dine here every week!

They completely overbook this place that it tarnished my experience. We waited 45 minutes past our reservations to be seated. After I asked, the manager comped our appetizers which was kind, but honestly, they should have offered before I asked. The over crowding ruins the whole experience because the food was amazing.

I can easily say that Republique has some of the best food I've had, period. The service was excellent and each item they brought was better than the last. The beef tartare, escargot and squash pasta stood out as favourites. The ambiance is like no other and is set in Charlie Chaplin's old studio. I can't say enough good things about this place. It was pricey but I would pay it again ten times over as it was worth every penny.

We had a 9:45 p.m. reservation. Republique contacted me three times to confirm the reservation. By Phone, by Email, by Text. They received confirmations all three times and in all three ways so they knew I was coming with my party of 8 at 9:45 p.m.. We arrived about 15 minutes early and told the hostesses (wavy blond hair/plus new trainee/plus petite Asian hostess ) we were there but understood if they couldn't seat us until our reservation time. When 9:45 came and went, three more times I went up to the hostess and was told that our table was being set, that they were having a hard time resetting tables because too many people left at one time, and although the table that we were eventually seated at had been empty, staff chose to put service on tables for smaller parties that had arrived after us and whose reservations were after ours. Then my husband and one of the other guests questioned the hostess as parties were being seated in front of us. It was after 10:30 by the time we were seated. By that time they had ruined our experience. While another 'manager' tried to make up by sending appetizers, the late seating caused additional problems. We ordered two Mary's Organic Chickens - one arrived. We had to tell the staff that two were ordered by us via the 'manager'. French fries were ordered, they never showed up at all. The waiter who eventually took over our table after dinner walked up to the table and said 'we are out of almost every dessert, so I am just going to bring you what we have left.' Really? Perhaps we would have gotten some desserts if we had been seated at 9:45 p.m.! I have always raved about the food here, but there are so many great restaurants in Los Angeles now that one need not waste one's time on a restaurant that is incapable of delivering on food and service. There are no excuses and from Republique nearly three days later there have been no apologies. And yet I still tipped 18% and paid the 4% health care costs.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. It was on the expensive side but very good none the less. We started with the charcuterie plate which was very good and then we had the roast chicken to share which was delicious, a lagre serving, all of the dishes we saw were hearty and to share. We also had the Brussel sprouts which were lovely too. W efinished off with a light watermelon and tapioca dessert which was light and delicious.

Servers were attentive. Food was creative and tasty. Menu is different everyday. We started off with escargots. Each piece was presented in separate mini cup topped with puff pantry (like traditional lobster bisque!). The sauce wasn't too buttery and it's a good compliment to escargots. We ordered 3 mains -mussels, duck breasts and short ribs. Mussels were fat and juicy, duck breasts were cooked just right, tender with crispy skin. Short ribs were out of the world! Boneless, tender, delicate with a hint of smoky flavor. Historic building, bonus. Highly recommended.

We were kept waiting over a 1/2 hour for our reservation, and we actually arrived 15 minutes early. so we were at the bar for 45 minutes. the manager finally came over to offer an bruschetta. I've been here about 5 times now. They pride themselves at turning people away and not having reservations available. This really left an unsettling feel to me, as I had a reservation, and we just watched many others being seated before us. Service was fine, food was good, but I felt the manager could've checked on us again. I live in the neighborhood. we ordered a lot of food, and we're just forgotten about until we walked out of the restaurant. Then a quick thanks, and that was it. Not Good. Very disappointed with it.

This restaurant can only be described as perfect. I chose this restaurant to celebrate a significant other's birthday, and I'm glad I chose this restaurant. Everything about the experience was amazing. From the moment you walk in, you feel transported to a chateau in France, with each area of the dining hall/kitchen having a unique look to it. \n\nThe menu was so extensive that it was hard for us to decide what we wanted to order. The waitress informed us that the menu changes from day to day with only the freshest ingredients, making it even harder to choose. When the food finally did come, it was incredible. Amazing flavors and well-sized portions (for two). Our favorites in order were:\n1) Charcuterie and cheese plate - so varied and incredibly delicious. Paired perfectly with their freshly baked bread\n2) Sonoma duck breast - impeccably cooked with great flavor pairing (grapes, sauteed kale and pureed sunchokes)\n3) Tomato, peach and burrata salad - so fresh, and the three elements combined perfectly. An excellent starter.\n4) Brussel sprouts - classic and delicious. The poached egg and panchetta added a lot of good consistency and flavor\n\nAs should be expected from a French restaurant, they did have a sommelier to help pick a wine to compliment our meal and he did a splendid job helping us navigate the wine menu to find something to our liking that matched our meal.\n\nWould recommend to anyone and everyone, but be prepared to dig into your wallet a bit. Perfect for a special occasion.

We were visiting LA and decided to eat at Republique based on the reviews we had read. Definitely lived up to everything we read. The crudo was phenomenal and so was the duck. I suggest getting the cheese tray as dessert. The only drawback was the loud table sitting close to us but it didn't detract from the experience.

The only issue we had was the 30 minute wait for a table even though we made reservations ahead of time. Went to dinner on a Friday night with a friend who was visiting from NYC. We started with oysters and each got an entree (steak and pasta dish). Both of our meals came out quickly and were still hot throughout our meal. They encouraged family style which works for almost any dish. The ambiance is fun and energetic, and the decor is a great mix of modern and classic. Definitely recommend this spot to people who are considering it!

I have been going to Republique for years -since it opened - and in that time the prices have climbed while the quality has gone down. It is still a delicious experience but I can't help but feel ripped off. Last night I ordered 7oz of steak for $56. It took 45 mins and came to the table cold. That's not the way it used to be and pretty much encapsulates the current state of Republique.

This is my go to place for special occasions, a special meal for out of town guests, or simply because I can't go another day without something delectable from there. The service is attentive and the entire staff treats you like you're special. Love the pates, the escargot, the buratta with tomatoes, basil and melon, the roasted chicken. The food is beautifully prepared and consistently delicious. Desserts are top notch as well.

Service was attentive, not too pushy, and helpful with suggestions. wine selection was good, not only pricey choices. Food was hit or miss. Excelnt steak frites, moist, lean, juicy. Cassoulet was lackluster and did not have a rich deep flavor. Salads were bland. Charcutrie was excellent with several good terrines, gallantines. Generally good, but expectations were bubbled by the hype.

This is probably the 10th time eating at Republique this year. To start, I had to wait almost 20 minutes to be seated with the restaurant virtually empty. I ordered an appetizer which was not bad. Unfortunately, my second dish arrived within minutes of me receiving the appetizer. The main course was pork belly. It was uneatable. Undercooked and tasteless. Lastly, I ordered the berry / peach crisp. Ice cold on the inside and warm around the edges.\n\nIf this were the first time eating there, I would not go back. I will go back again as I know they can do much better.\n\nFYI---do not show up before your reservation time. They seat you by reservation time only regardless if they are empty or full.

Took my boyfriend there for his birthday. Had a 6pm reservation. Got there a little early so went and got a cocktail at the bar. I enjoy a good cocktail and the 'peach' cocktail that I ordered did not disappoint. Might be one of the top 5 cocktails I have ever had. Absolute perfection. Then we were seated at our table. We ordered a lovely Barbaresco wine, beignets, brussel sprouts, short ribs, and rotisserie chicken. Everything was fantastic but the chicken was a real stand out. I never order chicken in a restaurant but this chicken is worthy of being called 'destination chicken.' The portions are generous. We had enough to take home and have another full meal the next night. I would definitely recommend this to friends who appreciate good food.

Past times we were here we really liked it. This time not so much. Food was really mediocre. and priced incredibly high. Had a New York steak which turned out to be 5 or 6 small slices of not especially tasty or tender meat for over fifty dollars. They put a bunch of quartered tomatoes in the skillet to make it look like it was full. If I order a steak BRING ME A STEAK. A bowl of Brussels sprouts, not really well cooked and again not especially tasty was $17?? Really? I'm used to expensive restaurants, but hate it when the food doesn't measure up, and this didn't. Felt ripped off. Party of 7, we spent close to $100 per person. So many other restaurants do it better. Much rather go to Spago, or The Ranch, or Factory Kitchen. All pretty expensive but worth it.

Great dinner at Republique! The atmosphere is fun and the decor nice & unique, with an open kitchen, and many community type tables... If that's not your thing, or for smaller parties ask for a table in the back room or very front right room by the exterior windows. There are some high top tables too. \n\nThere are so many good choices on the menu, you could make a delicious meal just from the Hors d'Oeuvres, Starters, Breads, and Oysters. \n\nWe had the Homemade Bread with Normandy Butter... if you are a bread & butter fan, this is delicious! \nThe Black River Russian Caviar on Chips, was also excellent!! I had never had caviar before, and I am now a fan. \nWe had the Charcoal-Grilled Octopus Salad. If you like Octopus, this was fabulous & maybe my favorite thing. \nFor Pasta, we tried the English Pea Agnolotti... it was unique, but also very good. \nWe finished with some sort of Peach like Pie that had no bottom crust and was served in a ramekin, as well as a Tripple Berry Crumble. . . I wasn't the biggest fan of the peach pie deal, but the crumble was ridiculously good. \nAll drinks & coctails were great too!\n\nWould definitely recommend to friends, and looking forward to trying their weekend brunch sometime too.

REPUBLIQUE is a great place with a nice feeling of 'home feeling' The food is great and the drinks too, all bartenders are pretty awesome. \n\nI was there on a saturday night and the ambience was great. Sure recomed it.

The bread and the Normandy butter is outstanding. \n\nSi vows fêtes au service de la cuisine française, ont quelques waitors qui parlent français. In english, if you are serving French food, have a couple of waitors that speak French. \nWhen my French friends are in town, they will LOVE IT!! \n\nI absolutely LOVE your restaurant! Keep up the good work.

Our server certainly set the tone for our night...Anthony was superb...I think his excellent service made the food taste better! The food was so delicious, and cocktails were tasty too. We have enjoyed the cuisine here 6 times. Seared foie gras, Halibut, Cauliflower & Short Ribs are outstanding items on the menu. Last night the overwhelmed kitchen served my main course & then served each other main 5 minutes after. A fatal timing error because while waiting for my guests' & husband's meal my Halibut became cold. Our guests waited for my husband's main & their dishes became cold too. Must have been an off night but neither server nor sommelier (who brought out my dish) seemed to notice this gaff. Service is usually very professional and non-invasive. We find it irksome that the wine list is short,unimpressive & not very well suited for the complexity of their dining menu. They send over the sommelier & often meet the very cheerful &'happy to explain' gentleman who takes special care to assist. Last night we were greeted by a woman who carried on about a 2000 bottle wine selection. Such an impressive offering should be compiled in a wine list, as most other fine restaurants do. Otherwise, how could wine lovers make a selection without knowing most of their options & pricing ? She seemed put off to make suggestions. - understandable considering a 2000 bottle inventory. I explained I was looking for Nebbiolo from Barbaresco. Our guests were fans of Barbaresco & not lovers of Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino. She tried to recall her Barbaresco selections but kept offering Brunello. She rolled her eyes when I politely reminded her that our guests were not Brunello fans. She returned with several reasonably priced options & we enjoyed a 2008 vintage. Unfortunately, she removed the bottle from the table while I was engaged in conversation-big no no. I wasn't able to note the maker for future.Our guests requested ice wine for dessert but sommelier suggested Lambrusco. (no correlation just as with her offering Brunello when we asked for Barbaresco). She snuck in price as she opened bottle & I was stuck with insane $180 price.

Great new restaurant formerly occupied by Campanile Restaurant and La Brea Bakery. The menu is creative and unique and the wine selection extensive. An exceptional dining experience..for a price. And make sure to ask for a table in the back if you want to have an intimate conversation; the sound level (music and conversation) up front makes it nearly impossible to hear the person sitting across the table.

We ordered lots of items from the top of the menu and shared around the table. Oysters excellent. Bread with pan droppings was unbelievable.. Everything we tried was really good. Servings are meant to be shared so everyone gets a taste of everything. Great time. However it was really noisy on a Saturday evening.

The food was really good, albeit too heavy at times, but the biggest stand out to our party was our server Benjamin. So often fine dining in LA is not accompanied by good servers. He is truly what made this place stand out in the giant sea of restaurants here.

Wonderful service and food and reasonably priced! Our server was prompt, well-informed, and funny. You're bound to spot a celebs while dining here. It was pretty loud there and with the shared seating/tables it made it a little difficult to carry on a conversation.

Honestly, this place has always been a sure thing for us. I brought some foodie friends here that were visiting from NY and the food was a letdown for the first time. Also, they carried dead whole pigs past us while we were eating and started butchering them right there in front of us. I don't find this appetizing or sanitary one bit. Big disappointment.

I really didn't enjoy Republique as much as I thought I would. The food was all way too vingerary and heavy. There wasn't a single dish that I thought would be worth of coming back. I must caveat we went for dinner and I've heard great things about their brunch. However I'm not convinced I'll be returning here. The ambiance cool, the service was average. I might think twice before making a reservation here.

Eh... that about describes Republique. The space itself is absolutely beautiful. The food is fine. Personally I'm not a fan of places - such as Republique - that put together a new menu every day. In my opinion, this makes the dishes seem as if they're random ingredients thrown together, rather than perfected over time. Especially when those dishes are between $35-60 each.

We chose Republique mostly from the Eater 38 nod they received, and while everything was good, nothing was impressive, and for the price we were left disappointed. We started with the tartare which ended up being the highlight of the night with its homemade chips to dip. From there we went to oysters with a really nice mignonette. Next we had mussels which were overcooked and were served with not nearly enough of the broth, as well as some beautifully cooked yet somehow uninspiring octopus. For mains we had spaghetti with dungeness crab, duck confit, and roasted chicken. Sadly only the chicken got high marks.\n\nNow it should be mentioned that service was on point all night, and the wine list is very eclectic and not exorbitantly priced. Food though was very expensive and with only one drink each, our dinner for three ended up $375 before tip. I might consider returning for appetizers, but for dinner in that neck of the woods, there are too many restaurants nearby more worthy of your money.

Amazing experience at Republique -- food is wonderful. I have a peanut allergy and they fry in peanut oil, but I never felt like my allergy was an inconvenience. My allergy is severe and they made me feel comfortable and safe to dine there, explaining which menu items would work for me. The food was good enough to have had a 5-star experienced based on that alone, but the staff going out of their way to be accommodating and welcoming really pushed the experience to one of my best. Another example not related to peanut allergy was I observed someone taste and not like her cocktail and it was immediately replaced with something else she would like no problem.

Wonderful staff , from hostess to servers. Returned one vegetable dish which tasted like a gallon of vinegar was poured in. Hot dishes were served luke warm. Prawn dish was tasteless. Most of the food was bland. Will not return.

some of the most amazing food in LA. The wait can get long for lunch. Dinner is amazing (and can get expensive but it's worth it!) The only problem with Republique is that most the seats are really uncomfortable. Hard wood bar height stools and wooden benches and tables. It's not at all ideal for older crowd. fantastic for lunch, a little loud at night with uncomfortable seating.

After reading in LA magazine that this was an amazing restaurant we looked forward to having a memorable meal. Eeh. We ordered as one of the appetizers a grilled octopus salad. Where was the octopus?. It was cabbage with a vinaigrette. Then the wait for the main courses. FOREVER forever wait!!! Finally the mains. My short ribs were just so under flavored. My husband had the pork chop which was just okay. They need to brine the meat. And, dessert, cheesecake, and I know that the co owner is a pastry chef but we would of preferred a true cheesecake rather than their deconstructed version they served. Sorry but we were not impressed.

Delicious food with many choice for meat, pasta or fish lovers. There were just 2 of us and we shared 2 appetizers and one pasta plate which was just the right amount. And not too full to order an amazing piece of chocolate cake with, and this may be the icing on the cake, a Chemex coffee. We will definitely go back and bring friends.

A Great Night Out! Republique is a great dinner spot that features fresh ingredients and a menu that changes daily. The food was excellent and the service was friendly. It was a little crowded once dinner was in full swing but before the rush arrived it was fantastic. I would definitely bring a friend with me to dine here again!

One of the most memorable meals I have eaten. Fresh peach and greens starter. I'm still talking about the just picked peach taste. The mussels were perfectly prepared, succulent and expertly seasoned. The fresh pumpkin pasta is not to be missed. Big mistake not to have had our dessert served first. The fresh blackberry nectarine peach crisp with home made ice cream was unbelievable. \nA perfect evening for royalty.

We ordered the escargot, beignets, bread with pan drippings, beef tartare for appetizers. The beef tartare was actually very good but the other three were mediocre at best. The escargot was presented very nicely but was lacking a distinct flavor. The beignets portion was very stingy. The presentation was done well but deceiving because it appeared that you got more beignets than you actually did. These are just cheeseballs so be a bit more generous with it. The sauce that came with the beignets absolutely did not enhance the flavor of the beignets. For the main course, we ordered the duck which was quite unremarkable. Duck meat cooked well but unseasoned and sitting on a bunch of sweet stuff (sweet masked potatoes, beets, etc.). We did not feel like ordering any more entrees or desserts after the disappointing meal. The service was fine but they offered to bring more bread with the pan drippings but never did. You don;t expect them to forget things like this at a place like this. I do not recommend this place.

i have dined here many times and recommended several people to the restaurant. this time, though, my experience was less than desirable. although i had a reservation, my party had to wait almost an hour to be seated. i was especially annoyed with the late seating because i was with clients. it would have gone a long way if any type of gesture was made as an apology.

We were seated on time for a reservation, pretty extraordinary for Los Angeles. The service was wonderful and the food was good but the prices were all over the place. Filet Mignon was $36, as you might expect but $65 for Dover Sole! The pumpkin ravioli was delicious.\n\nThe decor was nicer when it was Campanile.\n\nWe're checking République off our bucket list.

On my fourth visit to the restaurant, I finally got to enjoy the elements that everyone has raved about. Previous visits always had hiccups - an off dish, an uncomfortable seat, indifferent wait service - but this was different.For starters our waiter began the night by saying 'my job is to keep you from ordering too much.' His direction was impeccable as was the food. I brought two wines with a decade of age on them and the somm was pleased to be opening good bottles. While I have always been pleased with the vegetables, on this visit I was overly impressed with the proteins. Their chicken has to be the best in town and the duck is superb as well.

I've been dining in this town for over two decades. This is a real true, fun, alive and well great restaurant. It's a scene, for sure. But the food is great. Small plates are best. We usually just get a bunch of appetizers to try the different flavors. Always all good. The wine and drinks are outstanding and they work hard to make a hot spot still feel like a dining experience. It feels a bit like New York in the 80's, but the food is much better and the waiters actually care.

Well prepared and tasty food, perfectly seasoned, served hot, and courses presented in a timely manner. This is important as dishes are often shared -- apps and entree combinations arriving from the kitchen at the right time makes for a better dining experience. Wait staff were very attentive and interactive. Mussels and short ribs were excellent, as were the burrata, brussel sprouts, arugula salad, and agnolotti pasta. We will definitely be back...

Divine! This was a special meal, celebrating my hubs for his 50th. Our server was spot on with his recommendations to us, the Short Rib, the best I've had in the city. The service was also surprisingly good, it's easy for a restaurant with this profile to ignore the fine details, not here! Every person we encountered were not only friendly, but really informed about the menu and celebrated our choices as the meal was delivered.

We haven't been to Republique because it is quite a distance for us, but it was well worth the trip. Server Briana was terrific. Adam, Sommelier and Taylor manager, wine buyer were all very attentive. Walter visited and made us some special things. We will definitely go back, soon!

Well, first we were placed at a seemingly good table, until it became clear that we were directly in the path of the a/c blower. The desk moved us to a different spot, without hesitation. The party succeeding us at that table also moved.\n\nThe back rooms are more quiet than those in the front, but still, the entire atmosphere is one that is enervating at best. And as to the bread and butter, it is the signature of the restaurant, but it is also a bit of the emperor's new clothes. The bread was fine, but I had better within a few days at other spots in LA. The butter might have been delicious, but who could tell since it was doused in salt. Salt on the side would have been fine, I assume.\n\nThe roast chicken was very vinagery--I assume because moutarde a l'ancienne was used instead of an excellent dijon.\n\nIt was entirely too easy to order too much.\n\nAll in all, despite the crowd it attracts, there are much better places to eat in LA--or elsewhere.

Our reservation was for 6pm and we arrived at 5:45pm, we were the first dinner guests there (some people are at the bar already) and we were told that ALL reservations for dinner will be seated starting at 6pm, meanwhile more diners are coming in and we are all packed in the entranceway. When at 6:10 she has not called my party, I approached the hostess with the glasses and she said 'There are only 2 of us so it is slow'. We were finally seated at 6:20 at the back dining area and that's when our wonderful experience started. The food was awesome! the appetizers are a good portion to share with another person, the pastas were good for one person. The ribeye was sumptuous. The sea bass was small but flavorful. The salted caramel chocolate cake was just OK.

Dined at Republique to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We were sat at a private table (as opposed to communal) as requested. Our server Tyler and his assist took great care of us. The food was delicious, as were the cocktails. There was some wait between courses - maybe my husband and I just eat fast, but maybe the food wasn't being fired quickly enough. We were given a complimentary side and our dessert was inscribed to mark the occasion. The place is pretty loud, especially up front by the bar, which is where we were; here is a darker, quieter seating area towards the back of the gorgeous space.

An excellent meal from start to end. Loved the crostini with pea hummus, the sea bass and the brussels sprouts. Dessert was fantastic. Try the fondant and deconstructed cheesecake. Amazing!

I went there with my wife for my birthday. The food was exquisite and of good quality.\nWe are both French and it really reminded us of home. The service however was not on top.\nWe ate at 9pm, had a great table but there was a lot of people and the waiters would forget either to refill the glasses of wine (the bottle was kept fresh somewhere) and kept forgetting about small request such as bread etc...\nOverall this is a great place for diner, might be a bit expensive for what it is but I still recommend it.

I live in LA but had never been to Republique. I took a friend from Portugal. Sometimes when you go to a restaruatnt for the first time you don't get great service but that was not the case here. The service was great. We both loved it and will return.

We enjoyed our dinner what with interesting taste combinations, eclectic wine selections, and generous portions. We dined here a week after at Spago and the contrast in attention to service was palpable. The water attendant provided the best service and the others were at times missing in action, although the server was very knowledgable. Once it finds its groove that should improve.

Had wanted to eat here for a long while, love me some French inspired food. My wife and I were celebrating our 2nd anniversary. We ordered 7-8 total dishes (mostly apps, with 1 particularly delicious standout), spent about $400. Our lesson in the end was that if we ever did decide to return, we'd probably get the best service as a group dining on the company dime.

This is one of our favorite go to places for dinner on a special occasions as well as when we want a great lunch or breakfast. The food is always exceptionally delicious and well prepared. The service is consistently excellent and there's simply a great vibe. The short ribs were succulent as were the vegetables which accompanied it. Any French classics such as escargot or duck liver mousse are perfectly executed. The desserts are incredible. This time we had the Brillat-Savarin cheesecake with strawberries, graham cracker crumbles and graham cracker ice cream. It was more of a deconstructed cheesecake and much lighter than one expects with cheesecake.

the food was salty. Their salty caramel chocolate must have had a party in the salt department. WE could not finish it. The mussels pasta was so poorly presented as if it it had been dumped on a plate. Sauce again was wayyyy to salty. The idea of bringing food out as it is prepared so we can share does not always. My friends did not want what i wanted nor did i want to try their food - different taste. So 2 of us received our meal and we started to eat so it would not get cold. The 3rd person waited for another 10 min. before he got his dish. Too many small children around us were crying. Pretty environmnet and service was friendly.

First, everyone from the Receptionist to the server, Kelly, were welcoming, friendly and exceptional in her knowledge of the menu items and her recommendations. I have not dined at Republique for over a year and yet, I can't wait to come back, soon. I was there with my wife and two fashion industry clients from Japan, where all of us had dined at some of the highest rated restaurants in the world, but every item from the Normandy salted butter and bread to the fish and meat dishes and ending with the deserts were full of pleasant surprises, deceptively simple in appearance and, yet, wonderfully rich and complex and, yet, surprisingly light and smooth and delightful in taste. My two fashion guests had just dined the night before in NYC's $200/diner restaurant, but raved about Republique's dishes being infinitely superior. It was a Tuesday night, but the restaurant was packed. Everything was a delight from the food and service to the pacing of servings to the busboys quickly whisking the dishes away and even filling the glassware before the water is empty. My kudos to the General Manager and everyone at Republique. It was a night of perfection !

What can I say about this wonderful evening provided by the staff at Republique. My husband and I were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. I made some specific requests for a quiet table with side by side seating for the occasion. When I was called to confirm the reservation the hostess noted my request and assured me it would be granted. SURPRISE - it was! From the moment we walked in the door every staff member that greeted us wished us a Happy Anniversary and we were seated at a perfect table. The staff also accommodated our children's request for a note at the table, glasses of champagne and the luscious chocolate salted-caramel cake for dessert. It was the start of one of the most perfect dinner experiences I have ever had in LA. The atmosphere is lively, yet can be romantic because this is one of the loveliest dinning rooms in this town. Need-less-to say the drinks and food are exceptional and I think for the quality and portion sizes reasonably priced. Our Old Fashions lasted the entire meal. They were perfectly presented. This a family style restaurant in the classiest way. Appetizer, salad and entrees were generous enough that could have served four but we managed for two ( with a few take homes too!) Our server was a delight. She was attentive but not intrusive, and was genuinely pleased to be helping us celebrate. What I think I enjoyed most was the relaxed atmosphere here - there is no chi chi attitude like I have encountered at some very notable places that treat their guests as if they are doing them a favor, their staffs are always on the look out for an audience, and they fawn over celebrities while ignoring patrons. And I truly appreciate the added Total Health. Thrilled to know these hard working people get full health care. A healthy work force is a productive work force. I hope Republique keeps its doors open, and I hope other restaurant owners and staffs will follow its lead. We will be back!

Overall, my wife and I enjoyed everything we ordered. My only complaint, if it's complaint worthy, is that there wasn't anything done for her birthday. I'm not sure if they do anything for birthdays or if they just forgot but I did note it on OT and the confirmation call I received did confirm that I was coming in to celebrate her birthday. \nNonetheless, the experience was great.

Food was delicious, but I wish my party was seated in the more vibrant, boisterous communal seating area- it was deadsville in our section. Servers were overly enthusiastic about removing plates before we were truly finished, and with the scrumptious portions so small, it felt like stealing. Will likely return, though I may eat like a convicted felon next time to ensure I get my fill.

République came highly recommended. The place is fun and buzzy, and just a great venue. I was with a friend who hadn't seen for some while and we had a lot to catch up on .... Our reservation was for 7pm with no limitations/time (I assume) for giving up the table. \nWe ordered a bottle of good champagne. \nIt was clear that we were chatting and chatting but the waitress was hovering and kept coming and interrupting us despite our saying we had not yet had a chance to look at the menu. We ordered oysters and a hamachi dish. Then said we would like to wait to order our main course .... she told us it took at least 30 mins from ordering .... we said that was not a problem .... still she kept coming back, interrupting, hovering. The restaurant was not packed so it was not as if the table was needed for a later reservation, and certainly no one said any such thing.\nWe finally ordered two entrees, the pork belly/chop and a dover sole. The pork belly came about 20-25 mins later which was absolutely fine. But no dover sole. When we enquired she said she did not hear my friend order (he was very clear) and in any event there wasn't any left, plus what we ordered was enough for two.\nI don't believe that is the point. We were both quite hungry and I daresay we could have polished off both dishes. Dover sole isn't exactly a heavy dish.\nSo whilst the food was absolutely delicious we were really disappointed with the service. Our waitress did buy us each a further glass of c champagne, which was nice, but that was only because neither of us particularly eat desserts.

We started with the Normandy Butter (Excellent, will come back just for this) then ordered a variety of cheeses and the Okra & Green Bean Tempura. I had the Corn Agnolotti which was great and very interesting. Corn and pasta do go together, and very well. \n\nI also tried the Papparadelle, the Sonoma Duck Breast and the Mary's Rotisserie Chicken. Out of all of them I liked the Chicken the best. Give it a shot!\n\nI will be back.

I dine monthly at a new restaurant with my group of 4 other women. We've been doing this for 3 years so we've been to a lot of places. This restaurant ranks at the top of our experiences. Delicious food, excellent service, gorgeous environment. It is very crowded with a variety of different experiences. In the far back are the normal tables for the more established crowd. In the middle are long tables where people eat more communally. And up front is a super young bar scene with beautiful people. We sat at a 6 person table next to the bar on stools and had a delicious meal. Most memorable to me was the kale pesto pasta with some kind of lemon aftertaste that was just delicious. The noise level was high so it was hard to have one conversation among all of us, but that's ok. This is one of the more expensive meals we've had on our monthly jaunts, but also one of the best.

Republique is usually my go-to restaurant in LA but we walked away disappointed. We tried a number of different dishes including the duck and NY strip but both were ok and didn't live up to expectations. We enjoyed the salmon toast and French fries but everything else was just ok. Funny thing is we spent the most money this time and were the least satisfied. It will be awhile before we go back since it's not worth the money for ok food. Too bad we picked this place to celebrate our anniversary.

The only thing that was disappointing was our wait of an hour even with a very late reservation, which I made because that was the only time available. By the time we got to eating our food, we were all very tired and beyond the point of wanting anything substantial. What we did order was indeed delicious. The wait just killed us.

Our server knew the menu well and helped to guide our choices with both food and wine. The meat items we ordered weren't as impressive as the starters we had. I wish we went earlier when they had more seafood options. The menu changes with what's available. Favorite dish: foie gras toast... Heaven! Toward the end of our dinner, service slowed down because it was busier. I would suggest an early sit down dinner with reservations. We didn't order any of their cured meats, but after admiring them through the fridge I regretted the missed opportunity.

I have always loved everything about this place and was so excited to take my boyfriend here for his birthday - his first visit! His sister wanted to send a bottle of wine to the table with a note. She confirmed everything with the restaurant and all seemed to be in place. However, I had to ask twice about it and was told after the 2nd time that the manager would come and explain. Nothing! At the end of the meal I received the check without the bottle of wine listed. Card missing, manager missing, no communication. I see from the reviews that this has happened before. I'm sad that this place has gone the way of all places that get too big for themselves - it doesn't matter. If I don't go back no one will care. There will always be people to fill the restaurant. What a shame! So, when and if I recommend in the future, I will make sure to explain that you go for the food, not for the service. BTW - our server was lovely but she vanished at the end of the night as well. Very strange....

The first time we dine at Republique was magical. The food was outstanding, the service was enthusiastic and the environment enhanced the overall experience. Our return visit, about one year later, provided food that equalled our first experience. But the service and atmosphere fell short. What once felt like a fine dining restaurants now had the feel of a neighborhood bistro. Perhaps this is the goal but the pricing says otherwise. The pacing of the meal was off. We went from hungry to inundated with food to a long pause and hungry again. The quality of the food was outstanding and we will be back but, next time, we will have a few favorite dishes (Hammachi, brussel sprouts), glass of wine and call it a night.

I loved the ambience of Republique. My man expressed that the decor reminded him of home in France. \n\nWe were seated right away and from then on we were attended to for the rest of the evening. The service was great because our glasses were never empty. Our server explained the menu to us in details and provided wine pairings to compliment our dinner. \n\nWe started dinner with hor d'oeuvres - Gioia Burrata Crostini. These were flavorful and what else can I say about Burrata? The texture of the Burrata with the mint and lemon was light but perfect. For the second course, we chose the Torchiette, which was heavenly. The lemon brought the flavor of the pasta to another level. For the last course, we ordered the 7oz prime dry-age ribeye (steak and fries). My man was satisfied and enjoyed and there amount of food was just perfect. \n\nI wish I was able to order more, but it just gives me another excuse to return.

I brough my girlfriend to Republique not knowing much bout the restaurant before hand. The bakery when you walk in is beautiful and makes your appetite flare. The a it staff was attentive but not over bearing. They encourage you to share dishes which as no problem for us. We had the cheese board, Brussel Sprouts, the whole chicken and 7 Oz steak. All dishes were prepared to our specifications and well seasoned. We had absolutly no complaints, and honestly enjoyed the experience from start to finish!

The food, as always, was unbelievable. A very memorable meal. However, my waitress was HORRIBLE, and whenever I asked her to recommend something she would just say 'well its all good, our chef wouldn't put it on the menu if it wasn't.' Last I checked, all chefs only put items on their menu that they think are good. Then, when I told her what main courses we were deciding between, she gave me and my boyfriend a look of disgust and said we were ordering too much red meat. Is that her job?? NO. She made a face about everything we ordered, and then said it was too much food. Isn't that good for her if we order a lot?? Her tip was immediately cut in half. \n\nThat said, I would still go back here a hundred times over, I just think she should be fired and/or if I have her again, I would request a different server.

Right from the parking, the attendants were quick to get our car. The host was ready for us and availed a table right away. We got the table that we asked for and immediately the waiter was talking and making us feel relaxed. While at the host stand, one of the chefs at the OYSTER BAR took me through a tour of Oysters and what the differences are. East and West Coast oysters are indeed different in flavor and look. Who would have thought! \n\nThe Rose provided was very good although a bit pricey. The Wine was not the greatest but with such great food, it was a greta compliment. My wife was super happy. We had Oysters, Octopus sald and Halibut! Every one of those dishes was a class act. Capped the night with dessert that melted my wife's heart! Thank you, Republique. I got lucky that night...hahahaha!

It was a great experience. I wasn't prepared for it. I was looking for a place to have coffee and French Pastries late night within the Downtown LA area. Instead l found my self and my date in this amazing, upscale, very comfortable and cozy ambiance. The food, service, drinks and deserts absolutely exceeded our expectations. My date said that I should feel free to take her again to this place Any Time. My personal recommendations to any one trying to impress a date, a client, a family member, etc. this is The Place.

As was expected the food was terrific with every course. The oyster bar served some superb gems and the wait staff was very attentive. The prices were a little absorbent so this is definitely a treat.

Overrated and overpriced. We were there for three hours mostly waiting on the food and the waitress. It was a birthday celebration for my husband but the poor service and wait time made it a very unpleasant experience. Tables around us were also waiting for over an hour for their food. I had to stand up in the middle of the restaurant (being 9 months pregnant) in order to get the waitress' attention. No apologies whatsoever for the wait and lack of attentiveness.

Since I live in the neighborhood, I am always on the look out for local restaurants where I can take my out of town friends to that I know will not disappoint. And Republique definitely fits the bill. We went on a Monday night and the place was packed !! On a Monday? WOW. Our whole experience was great... from our seats in the rear dining room, exceptional service, extensive wine list, menu offerings too numerous to decide ( you must try the warm valrhona chocolate fondant - it's like death by chocolate !) to the courteous valet parking service. My only complaint was the noise level. A bit much when you are trying to catch up with old friends. \nI have other friends from Chicago coming in May and I know where I will be taking them.

According to reviews it's a given even w/1st reservations of the evening you're going to wait 15 mins although empty tables ready for seating in plain view what? Food everything everyone says it is: deconstructed nothwithstanding oy. Verging on aggressive table service, one of those barely eat last bite before whisking away plate (1 dude waited behind my hubby for his plate --awkward) and they simply can't fill ur water enuff, reaching across ur nose & conversation to do so. Salad (Conway Farms?) was amazing, short ribs everything they're, er, cracked up to be, carbonara excellent. Pass on the beignets; cheesecake dessert was just silly. Total bill for 2, no booze: $150 w/o tax & tip. For sharing small plates, whoa. Good foodie experience; go!

Fantastic food and loved the service and ambiance. Just be careful of the 3% additional charge they automatically charge to your bill for full time employees. Remember to let your server know if you want to opt out of it. Very strange to have that disclaimer on the dessert menu. Didn't expect this restaurant to have this type of charge. Kind of tacky.

Service was horrible. Even though we had a reservation we still had to wait 20 mnutes for a table. Once we sat down no one took our drink order for another 10 minutes. Our waiter forgot a side dish and did nothing to fix the mistake.I would never go back nor would I recommend it to anyone.

We reserved an early table, and had to wait a bit to get seated. However, from the time we were shown to our table, the service was outstanding. The bus boy was attentive, professional and hard-working.\n\nThe food was delicious and very balanced. Same goes for the cocktails. Republique is a good destination for foodies. The dover sole is worth every bite. \n\nThe only downside is the seating, the chairs and benches are hard wood and not very comfortable to sit on. Some cushions would be good.\n\nRepublique is a place you go to, to 'experience' food.

Always amazing ambiance, amazing service, amazing wine selection.... Sadly our entrees were less than. It was disappointing because my fiancé and I frequent for dinner, and have never been disappointed by the food, but during this visit we had to send back my plate ( the meat was all fat, as if they didn't even care to find a decent lean piece of meat to use in my dish ) and my fiancé ended up not even wanting to finish his dish because the sauce the dish was in drenched the veggies and kale ( and not in a good way ). We will still return, but for brunch instead. The food has never been disappointing for brunch service!

My wife and I travel 10-12 times per year all over the world for work and we are fortunate enough to try some of the best restaurants everywhere we go. Republique is probably one of the best we have ever been to. We had heard really great things about this place and read amazing reviews all over, but it exceeded all our expectations. Everything we had was phenomenal, the service was exceptional and the atmosphere is unique and enjoyable.

Underwhelmed the first time especially with all the food showing up at once. This time, we knew what to order and didn't feel rushed. Fantastic Brussels sprouts. The real winner was the rotisserie chicken. It was served with a mustard sauce and vegetables. The chicken was very moist and probably one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had. Attentive service at the bar with excellent drinks.

I have heard a lot of stuff about how good Republique is. So, not being able to get a Golden Ticket for Trois Mec, I decided to take my husband there for his birthday. The hostesses and the servers were very welcoming and professional. They apologized for seating us fifteen minutes late, which I was surprised by. You don't' get that at Osteria Mozza! It's every man for himself over there! But, I digress. They sent us over a half order of Burrata toast. That was really fresh; that was tasty. The lighting was nice. Bestia's is a little on the bright side.The seating was typical where we sat, although there were communal tables up front. The size of the place makes that a plus over Bestia. The Beef Tartare was my favorite, but the escargot was overpriced and forgettable. The Charcuterie tasting was Meh,way better at Bestia. Just more flavor. My husband liked the grilled Octopus salad. I liked the Bestia version way better. We would have gotten to an entree, but we decided we had spend enough money and were pretty full anyway due to all the bread in dishes. Plus, we just weren't super excited as others seem to be about this place. The dessert was a pretty good Panna Cotta. I don't generally like dessert, but this is one dish that WAS better than Bestia. The only reason for the comparison is the provincial, meat heavy dishes they offer. But, for the money, it just didn't leave me wanting. I live near Tasting Kitchen, and I think we would have been better off going there. Bestia, we love, but its on the far edge of L.A. unless you live way on the East side. Glad I tried Republique, but there are too many options out there, and this place just didn't hit my sweet spot. But, I am recommending it for others to try once and judge for themselves.

I finally executed the plan I'd always meant to do at Republique. Here's the problem... Those little crostini at the very top of the menu are so rich that once you've eaten one or two, you're kind of done. By the time your final course lands, you're too full, but you eat it anyway because it's delicious and there. So this time, I took a couple of business colleagues and I skipped those and started with two raws from the next menu section. (We skipped the oysters since my colleagues are from the east coast.) Then we got a vegetable, two proteins and a pasta. (The morel pasta was out of this world.

The food was amazing. So good that you could almost ignore the service issues. Almost. Also, the wine was great, but I found it annoying that they have 3,000 bottle cellar that you can't see and don't know what is in it. We talked to the somm and he recommend some great wines from the list, mentioned the cellar, but never offered us any access to it. Back to the service....a highlight was the busers. They were great - quick, responsive, and they knew the food. The waitress was sooooo baddddd!!! Most of the table hadn't been before and we asked how best to order. Her answer? 'It depends'. Then she points to some random items and then walks off. We finally decided on a couple starters and order with her. We ask again for help with mains and we get the same lackluster response. We order two beers and we had to ask three times to actually get them. We had to physically get up and track her down to ask her the last time, because she disappeared for long periods of time. During the beer debacle we asked another waitress for help too. When the beers finally arrived she walked by and yelled -' See! I asked about them!' and then kept walking. So weird. There was probably 30-45min between each course. Dinner started at 6:30 and we didn't leave until 11. Luckily we were in good company and had a great time hanging out, but the delay in food was noticeable to all of us. I would say the service problem was a fluke, but we had a similarly rude experience the last time my husband and I ate at the restaurant. I eat at the restaurant several times a month, but mostly for breakfast/brunch so I don't deal with the wait staff. I am torn on returning for dinner again because the food is just so darn good. I fear that if I attend again, I will have another bad service issue.....

Can't say that I would recommend anything on the menu since it changes all the time, but we enjoyed everything that we ordered to the max. Flavors are bold and refined. The chefs know how to strike a good balance of sweet, umami, and freshness. All ingredients are fresh and well cooked. The waiters are so kind and attentive, it makes the experience feel so easy and fun.

Pricey small Portions - menu impossible to read had to bring out flashlight from phone - all the dishes either had pancetta or a frizzed fried egg on top (should have been a poached egg to give creamines) - wait person just delivered the food rather than assisted with choices. Enjoyed a wonderful dinner last Friday evening. Sat in the back room (strongly suggested as front room acoustics with open kitchen and large bar area make it tough to hear) which was lovely. Attentive service throughout - even though we took our time and brought our own bottle of wine ($30 corkage). Cheese selection accompanied by freshly baked bread (even better than Mozza... which I didn't think was possible!) was great - made unique by the addition of some amazing butter imported from a small farm in France - order it... you won't regret it. First course octopus was delicious and light - no sauce or heavy dressing to disturb the unique ingredients. Lovely pastas and fresh fish - you can't go wrong with the chicken either - it's a specialty there - very large so consider sharing. Great place -doesn't disappoint - a go-to favorite!

This was our first visit to Republique, and I cannot wait to go back. The space itself is gorgeous, and the people were so nice and helpful. Our server was top notch, and asked the sommelier so we could ask a question about which wine would pair best with our dinner. Dessert and coffee were just as good. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday late Tuesday evening. I imagined it to be a quiet night considering the restaurant is popular for its brunch dates, so I was a bit nervous to see what I was getting us into. Needless to say, we were impressed. The place was booming with people, music, great aroma and what a fantastic building! I have told a number of friends since coming here that we will be returning to Republique and that they should seriously consider making the drive up. Totally worth it. The place is just so...perfect.

went Sunday night for my wedding anniversary and the experience was great. initially we were sat down right by a table with very noisy kids watching TV on their phone. i promptly asked if we could move and the staff was more than accommodating. they found us another table with no time and Katie's service was excellent from beginning to end. My wife and I came to Republique last year on over our wedding weekend to celebrate, and so, we decided we'd spend our first wedding anniversary there as well, for a nice bookend... and it was a fantastic decision. \n\nThe service was impeccable, our server went out of her way to take care of us. She was very knowledgeable, I'm gluten free and she made sure that I knew what was in every entree and even how it was prepared. Plus, she even gave us some bubbly to help us celebrate. The food was on point, my scallops were perfectly cooked and the cream sauce they were served in was to die for. My wife's lobster was amazing and all our side dishes were impeccable. The white that our server recommended complimented our meals perfectly and took the flavor profile to another level. Lastly, the desserts were delectable and rounded out our dining experience. Everything we ate was amazing. Whoever the chef... they deserve a shrine! \n\nRepublique made another special day even more special, and we thank them for that. Go today! It never disappoints and they'll take great care of you. We'll probably see you, we love it there and look forward to returning for years to come.

This is my 2nd time dining at Republique and it wasn't as great as my 1st time there. We had a 9pm reservation and we had to wait 45 minutes to get seated. Which really sucked. Then once we were seated it took another 20 minutes for the waiter to take our order then another 30+ minutes for the food to arrive at our table. They gave us beignets for free but it did not make up for the long wait. Plus the food wasn't as great as the first time I was there. I understand that it was a Saturday night but the 1st time I was there it was also on a Saturday night. I am sad to report that the quality in the food and service has dwindled because it used to be one of my favorite restaurants in LA.

I had high hopes for this place. Currently sitting here as I write this review. Everything started out awesome. The deco is super cute and our appetizer was delicious.\r\n\r\nBut when it came to the entrees, I expected the same in quality! Our pasta looked like something you could make at home. Even though it was my favorite out of the two, but I think the only reason why I liked it was because it tasted like the the instant Mac n Cheese you find at the grocery store. The meat was overly salty too. So really all I was eating was the noodle itself. As for our Mary's organic chicken, it was undercooked. As J was cutting into his chicken, I was wondering why there so much blood on his plate but he assured me it was coming out of the bones until he hit the center. You can basically call it raw! I waved down one of the waiters, and he acted super surprised when I told him the chicken was raw. As if he didn't believe me. Like seriously? Is it because I'm Asian that you had to second guess me? Okay whatever, he took J's plate back into the kitchen and only his plate. I would think he would take the whole dish back right? Nope he had to come a second time for that. 10 mins later our same exact dish came back with a missing a quarter of the chicken. Seriously? Are you so cheap to recook it for us? It wasn't like I finished 80% of the dish and then noticed it was uncooked. All I ate from the dish was a drum stick and that I didn't even finish because it was really pink for me.\r\n\r\nOur waiter didn't even apologize or anything. It's as if she was avoiding us. So because of this you should understand why I wouldn't leave much tip right.l?\r\n\r\nParking is a mess too. The lady working the floor second guessed us when we stood by our car. And then when it pulled up the guy that drove it was like 'oh is this your car?' What's up with all the discrimination tonight?\r\n\r\nOverall the drive from San Marino was not worth it. So so disappointed!

My meal was fine, but a little disappointing. I had friends who had raved about the pan drippings with bread. I checked the website and sure enough, it was still on the menu (As of the writing of this article, it still is). I was really excited. When I got to the restaurant though, I was informed that they took it off the menu a while ago. So that sort of set the tone for the meal. Otherwise, the food was fine. My server told me the cassoulet was big, but she didn't sell that enough. It was huge. Not bad at all, and it was nice to see that item on a menu at all.\r\n\r\nThe service felt a little brusk at times, and I was next to the bar, so I was bumped repeatedly during my meal by servers and bar patrons.

I had this place bookmarked as a spot for brunch for a weekend in L.A; we ended up having dinner instead and it was great! It's a nice date spot for dinner, although it can be a little loud at times. We ordered the Wood Oven Brussel Sprouts, Cassoulet, and Mary's Organic Rotisserie Chicken - all delicious, and soo much food for two people. The service was awesome and very attentive as well. Get the Meyer Lemon cocktail.

Loved this restaurant however we had two entirely different experiences between the bar and the dining room. Sat at bar prior to our reservation and the service by the female bartender was snobbish and reluctant. Made us feel like we weren't cool enough to be there. The service at our table was outstanding. Our waiter explained the menu w/ease, gave excellent recommendations and made the flow of our meal totally enjoyable. The food choices and ingredient combinations were absolutely delicious and we savored each dish!! Ambiance and architecture of the whole place was fantastic. Need to work on the attitude at the bar. The food experience will have us coming back the next time we are in LA.

That food and cocktails and wine were awesome. One one of my favorite restaurants anywhere in the world. Noise is challenging but tolerable if you can sit close to your dining partner. The cassoulette is the best that I have ever had and speaks to the five star quality of everything. The Sommalier also helped us find a very reasonably priced Rhone on a list of wines that are quite pricey. Actually the food prices were pretty reasonable all things considered.

Server was a snob and was not at all friendly. Food was AMAZING!!! Portions were too small for the amount that we paid. Our waitress was not at all helpful in helping us understand the menu. We would have liked for her to suggest and advise that what we had ordered would not be enough for 4 people. She said the restaurant was family style, but what we received was not enough to feed 4 people. We left this restaurant still hungry.

Republique was the perfect choice for a delightful, long evening catching up with a dear friend whom I hadn't seen for much too long. We enjoyed everything about our long, chatty dinner. The servers were attentive but not intrusive, the wine was poured and topped up just frequently enough to keep us going throughout our extended meal, and our three courses (all shared) were each absolutely delectable. We wanted dessert, but after 3.5 hours, we had no room for it and, besides, by then it was 10:45 and I had to drive back to Palos Verdes. Thank you, Republique, for such a wonderful evening!

I heard such great things about this place so was really excited to take my girlfriend there for her birthday,, but wound up very disappointing.\nI have no problem spending $100-$200 a person on dinner if it's worth it, but this just didn't make the cut. Normally there is that one dish that stands out, but I thought everything we had was pedestrian. \nThe Normandy butter was delicious and the oysters too ( but Kumomotos are kumomotos). However, we had the tuna crudo which had a Mediterranean pre ( hummus, yogurt, dill, mint) which just over powered the tuna itself. \nThe octopus has no char and was bland and lost in the overdressed salad it comes in. The short rib and scallop were fine, but nothing special. \nService was good, but I've had better. I might have just gone in with lofty expectations for this place. But after spending $300 for two people I expect more than just an OK meal.

The food, as always, was stellar. Until, we didn't get ours. It was NYE and we started at 9:30. Everything was wonderful until our perfectly paced meal came to a mini halt. Finally the scallops arrive, but they are cold. We send them back, get them 15 min later but it's 11 pm and my hunger has passed. Still waiting on the pasta course but we chose to leave without them since it was already approaching 11:30. I'm sure they would've been delicious, so we'll have to try again.

Had dinner with my wife at Republique the other nite. We were promptly greeted and seated. The menu was small but thoughtful. I ordered the snails which were rubbery. We also ordered the foie gras which was disturbingly small for a $28 appetizer that was supposed to be 4 ounces but but no more than two although cooked perfectly. The noise level was unbearable and made the experience difficult to return. The service was excellent and professional and appreciated. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

I came with my family for my birthday and we enjoyed the entire night. The food was coursed out. We started with oysters and tequila. Moved on to a nice bottle of wine and shared several appetizers. The hamachi was out of this world. We shared a few entrees as well and enjoyed the mushroom pasta. They don't write it happy bday on desserts but my husband explained how important it was to me and they made it happen. Great chocolate cake. We had a great night and the restaurant is beautiful.

As I have attended dinners at Republique over time, I have noted that cost for wines BTG has steadily increased, and portion sizes in some areas have decreased. \nDisappointing considering how much this restaurant has going for it. \nHowever, with so many great options in the area, I no longer feel like I can give this a wild recommend considering the QPR. \nSuch are the downsides to living in a 'strong' local economy.

We were very excited to try this resturant in our neighborhood for some time. We had a reservation at 6:15pm and were going to a show at the El Rey and needed to be there by 8pm. It wasn't until we had drinks delivered and about to order that we were informed that the kitchen had some sort of power outage and that things were being brought up at that time. We ordered a handful of appetizers and were hoping that in the meantime the kitchen would be at full power soon to order entrees. well...That NEVER happened. I'm a pretty picky eater with some allergies so I was able to only eat a couple of basic apps - cheese plate and the potato benignes. However, the server forgot to order my benignes. After asking him about ordering entrees a few times and told no, I then had to ask him about the benignes and if they were still coming. I basically only had bread and cheese at this point. He told us that they were coming and they would be comped. They NEVER came and we had to leave for the show. I'm very disappointed in the whole dinner - if you could call it dinner. Our waiter didn't seem to care that 3 people at our table only snacked on appetizers and I only had bread and cheese but we sure paid A LOT of money for this weak 'meal'.

I took my fiancee for a special birthday dinner. She works in fine-dinning. We like to spend our hard earned money on good food, but by no means are we rich. The ambiance was cool. The celery drink was amazing - had two. But when we sat down to eat, basically our waitress claimed our order was 'a bit light', even though we ordered two appetizers, and two entrees, and plenty of wine. So I don't know exactly what she meant by it, but I took it as if we weren't ordering enough for her wallet. We ordered plenty. So on our special occasion, I didn't quite appreciate this little bullshit judgement by the waitress about how much or little we were suppose to order.

I took my friend out for her birthday and we had a wonderful time, savoring several dishes that were full of surprising flavors. It's a diverse menu, but each dish is pretty special. fyi, the front room is extremely loud so if you'd prefer a quieter experience, ask for the back room when you make your reservation.

We had a great meal here this week. It's not often where everything you order is delicious. The pear cocktail was fabulous! Octopus salad was complex yet light and super yummy. The bread was crispy and amazing. For entrees we had the scallops and cavatelli with mushrooms which I really loved. This was our second time here and they really impressed me. Can't wait to go back again!

food has been decent and consistent everytime i go there. the waitress was disappointing, extremely unprofessional on handling situation that happened. i don't know if she was not properly trained or an exception. That really threw me off, and i am not sure if i will go back again, let alone recommending the place to other people. service seems to be hit and miss depending on the server from my experiences.

We had a lovely late dinner at Republique - the wait staff was attentive and knowledgable, and her recommendations were spot on. The bar is lively and noisy, and the area in back is much more quiet and enjoyable.

Great food and service. On my recent visit, Republique staff handled a difficult situation that could have concluded very differently. I brought a bottle of 2008 Sea Smoke to the restaurant to do a Pinot tasting with friends. Unfortunately, the bottle was accidentally broken by Republique staff while they held onto it as I waited for my table. The Sommlier was very apologetic and the GM did his best to make it right. Ultimately, they replaced it with a bottle that was equal or better.

I had a truly spectacular experience at République for my 20th birthday. I'd been hoping to go to this restaurant for a while and I felt super lucky to get a reservation. The food was incredible and we enjoyed every bite. We had the beignets, the tuna toasts, the brussels sprouts, and a flat bread. They were all incredible. We also thoroughly enjoyed the normandy butter that came with the bread. Overall would very highly recommend if you like food at all.

The duck breast was phenomenal. The crudo and oysters were fresh and flavorful. The escargot is an incredibly rich treat with an airy puff pastry on top.

I understand the vibe and style of this restaurant but my wife and I ordered 5 things and it took over 2 hrs to get everything on our table. The table next to us was seated and served drinks, salads and starters in the time between 2 of our courses coming out. We ultimately had to leave and had our last dish wrapped up to go in order to make it to an event. We sat at 645 and were served our entire at 845. I know the french take a long time to eat but this just felt like the kitchen was backed up. With that, we felt the food was overpriced.

Food variety and preparation was amazing. Unique flavors and lots of interesting choices. Service was impeccably timed so we had ample time to digest each course. We had a peanut allergy in our group and every single server repeated the ingredients every time a different dish was presented. They prepared one dish without the nuts as well. We sat at the end of a community table in the front part of the restaurant which was fine, but a table in the back would have afforded more privacy if desired. Go for the Normandy butter! Worth the price - bread was delicious. And the salted caramel chocolate cake topped it all off!

Visited here for my wife's birthday and was fortunate to get a heads up to reserve a table in the back room rather than at the communal tables in front area. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the hostess tried to seat us at a communal table and when I advised that we had reserved specifically a private table in the back room, she did not immediately move us and we had to get the manager involved who ultimately (10 minutes later) had us seated at a nice table in the back. Back room much quitter and cooler than middle area in front of the kitchen/ovens.\nOnce we were seated, the service and food was excellent; incredible variety of flavors and ingredients. But for the table snafu, would have been an almost perfect meal.

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant and seeing what they did with the property. The rooms look fantastic, a great use of space and our server was wonderful. We found the food very underwhelming and more expensive than it should have been. I would not return but enjoyed seeing it once.

The overall food, ambiance and service at Republique were wonderful. The drinks we ordered at first were Italian greyhound. Its special taste made us fall in love with it immediately. We ordered two starters. Both were delicious. The lamb main dish and dungeness crab pasta were made very well. We love how perfect the lamb was cooked - tender and juicy. The sauce, a concoction of pistachio, pomegranate and others, was tasty. The menu seems to change a lot, so that's good. But we were sad to find that there wasn't any souffle. There was just one thing that fell short. The prices were high for the small portions of the plates. Of course I understand the quality is what matters. But I was disappointed to not be as full as I wanted to.

We were able to secure a table for two at 8:00pm on a Tuesday night.\nThe food was outstanding. Great taste, creativity and wonderful flavors.\nVery pricey: $38 for a small plate of pasta: Cavatelli with Chanterelles and Porcini.\nService was ok. We had to pour ourself the wine as no one seemed to want to touch the bottle.\nOur main course was served and we had to ask for silverware.\nWe ordered several starters but we had to ask for clean plates for the different dishes.\nBut the food definitely makes up for the service flaws.

Our server was sweet and knowledgeable. I did have an issue, I called a day before saying it was my boyfriend's bday and I wanted a chocolate dessert ready. They may have forgotten because they offered us a dessert menu, and I had to distract the bday celebrant to have them bring over the dessert. Unfortunately, the hazelnut ice cream melted before his coffee came. Then they gave us a scoop after the dessert was all gone. Bummer. Maybe just an off night. Overall, it was great. We just had a few loud, obnoxious people who sat next to us towards the end but it was fine. The food was amazing!!! the osso bucco was the best.

We loved our meal at Republique. The food was so fresh and flavorful, every bite was perfect. Our server April was knowledgable and helpful but discreet, and we had everything we needed without someone hovering over the table constantly. It's a little too pricey to come every day, but I highly recommend Republique as a special occasion meal, it was truly a wonderful dining experience for us!

It was very busy and we were seated fairly quickly, but our waitress was terrible. She offered bread and butter to start and charged us $6. We don't even eat butter, which she knew, because we requested for our dishes to not\nContain any butter or added fat. We requested for our chicken dish to come without bacon and duck fat. She said that the potatoes in the dish were pre-soaked in duck fat, so she offered to substitute the potatoes with a salad, for which she charged $5. This would have been fine if she had told us ahead of time, but it was just a pile of lettuce and not worth $5. We really only wanted extra veggies in the dish, but she said that it doesn't come with any. When she finally brought the chicken to our table, it wreaked of bacon and we found little pieces in the juice, which also contained a bunch of carrots and mushrooms, which she failed to tell us about even after we asked. We sent it back and it took about another 25 minutes to remake. Instead of comping anything, she charged us unnecessarily. She also did not offer a dessert menu. She gave us the check and we decided to pay and leave (although she did remove the butter charge from the check after bringing it to her attention). Awful service overall.

This place has easily become our favorite restaurant in LA! The food is so amazing and on its own level. The menu changes with the seasons which keeps it new everytime and only stings just a little when one of your favorite dishes gets replaced but it's always fine because it is replaced by something just as amazing. It is also one of the only places in my opinion that knows how to make a true cocktail that isn't too sweet and sugary. Whenever people come\nto town we usually make a stop here for dinner. It's great for special occasions or just a great night out with friends or your boo. Taylor knows his wine like no other! He knows exactly what I want and remembers based on previous wine selections he has made for us. The buratta this weekend was hands down the best I have ever had. One staple not to be missed well is the escargot.

The food was good, but the seating situation is not the greatest. I have a hurt hip and spent 2-3 hours sitting on a small stool. we weren't accommodated with a different table, and the host was pretty rude about it. our server was much more polite and we had a great dinner. i just think that when you spend 800 bucks for dinner, you should get a proper chair. And i am young; this isn't some old person complaint.

This place does almost everything right. One thing, service is good but not everyone is on-par, some people have the snobby Hollywood vibe to them. But for the most part, the food quality is 10+, very similar to Misfits and Bestia, nonetheless, this place is priced just like they are. We love republique. It's in our neighborhood and we often walk there for lunch. It's our favorite place because the food is excellent, the staff is friendly and the design is spot on. It almost feels European... like you get to escape to France just for an hour for an amazing pastry! We had never gone for dinner but went for my Husband's birthday and no surprise had an amazing dinner! The service really picks up at night to a fine dining level. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and attentive. Our favorite dish was the pumpkin pasta. We always see them making pasta during the day and wished we could try it. It was worth the wait... Maybe you guys should add one pasta dish to lunch menu?!? Please! We were in a bit of a rush to get back home to our babysitter and weren't planning to get dessert but a sweet manager had one sent over for our birthday celebration really quickly. It was a fabulous meal all around.

Food is very good, service is attentive, and the hosts are very gracious and welcoming. But be warned that prices are very high and don't be surprised that some portions, though 'meant to share,' are quite small. No one on the staff seems to notice (or care?) that you've been waiting forever for your food. I have been here twice and I've had the same experience. This restaurant is always booked because LA loves a scene, but some fundamentals are lacking and I can't say I will return.

Food great, service good-offended that the add a 3%surcharge on top of the 20% tip to the bill to pay for their employees health insurance fund. Health insurance is the responsibility And obligation of the owner it is the part of the cost of doing business. Everyone at our table runs very big business and we all felt the same way and the table next to us who were close friends felt the same. The manager came over when we asked the waiter what tj is was and he gave us a song and dance show and said if we didn't like it he would remove it. He missed the point completely. So if you do not notice this on your bill as we didn't the last to time\nwe ate there he gets a away with it, if you catch this, they will remove it. So is this a donation?

I cant say enough about how much I loved this restaurant. THE FLAVORS, textures,yumminess. A perfect meal all around. Its my new favorite place in Los Angeles. We had a salad with cabbage, pistachios, octopus that was so tender and delicious I have NEVER tasted it like this before, watermelon and I don't know what else but it was sublime. A spinach fettuccine that was meaty. PERFECT FRESH Oysters. A pork that was crunchy and sweet and savory and melt in your mouth and the Apricot pie. WOW.\nBeautiful Beautiful full flavored gorgeous food.

That's not the case at Republique where the tall tables mixed in throughout the dining room create more of a bar atmosphere than a fine dining restaurant. The food sounded much better reading it on the menu than it tasted. The eggs on toast tasted too fishy, the pasta was dry and bland; The sea bass was average at best but the cauliflower was good. Way overpriced for what it is, way too many great alternatives in this city to ever go there again.

I came here to celebrate my birthday with family. Having been to Republique multiple times beforehand, I found the most recent visit, well, disappointing.\n\nOf all the items we ordered, including the wine, the food was just a huge hit and miss.\n\nWhile the Uni and Foie Gras Toast was solid, every dish that followed just didn't fit the cut. Dishes were overly salty, and we couldn't fathom bothering the server after we were there for far too long.\n\nWhen we told our server that my sister was Vegan, she said arrangements could be made. We ordered dishes specifically for her and asked for them to be coursed with the rest of the food, but did not receive the first item until halfway through the meal. She was starving by then.\n\nThe wine we were recommended was bland, and murky. The flavor was disgusting but since the bottle had already been poured, we continued with it anyway.\n\nOverall, disappointing. Not sure if I would not be back again if this was my first experience at Republique.

Overall, Republique was enjoyable, however, the experience left quite a bit to be desired. I will start by saying that the place is definitely popular and is a great place for anyone who want to see and be seen. There are also delicious drink options, you can't go wrong with most of them. Where the restaurant fails to deliver is the food. DON'T ORDER THE MEAT. I should have taken it as a sign when the guy at the table next to me complained about his overcooked short rib, but I didn't. We ordered the rack of lamb (medium rare) and ran into the same issue. Well-done lamb is not ideal...and 3 small poorly cooked lamb chops is not a $52 'rack of lamb.' The appetizers were decent but the main course ruined the night for us. \n\nMy advice to anyone going - enjoy some drinks and pick a few appetizers that intrigue you (I would lean towards the raw stuff that doesn't require any cooking). Skip the main dishes because you can get something much better elsewhere. It's obvious that the executive chef knows what he/she is doing here, however, the people executing the dishes lack the required skills to deliver.

I watched the people in the kitchen, which is open to people to view as you enter. I noticed one young sou chef fussing over a dish for 10 minutes to make sure it was perfect. When it was placed on the counter for delivery to the table. It looked like a work of art. The main server was very professional and friendly. My partner and I are experienced diners and she had a way of seeing to each table needs no matter what the social dynamic of the guest required. The place is expensive and worth the price. Great wine list and desert was 5 stars.

Food was very good but not phenomenal. The tartare could have been tartier! Think the biggest disappointment was being seated at a table in the darker decidedly gloomy back room vs. the very and lively front room with communal table. We were only a group of four so it should have been no problem. Would go back if someone else suggested but otherwise -- been there, done that.

On the cover of L.A. Mag's 2014 Best New Restaurant's issue, this place lives up to expectations. We made an OpenTable resie the day before for my husband's birthday and were promptly seated when we arrived. Ever item we ordered was outstanding. From the Strawberry cocktail, to the Hamachi Crudo, to the Stinging Nettle Cavatelli, to the Duck Confit. We of course had to have the Bomboloni (which was featured on the L.A. Mag cover).

I could not have asked for more, he was blown away by the food, the drink and equal to the food and drink was the attention of Devon, our server. Had a fun evening on a Monday night . \n\nThe good; great service from the front on arrival and departure. The waiter was attentive with charm, did not disappear and the water glass and service people always on hand. Loved the cauliflower and the dark portion of the chicken and great frites with the steak. The rooms are beautiful.\nThe bad; well, the good news is none of other dishs were bad -- just sort of who cares. The small steak was tasty and cooked properly, the sea bass a little dry and the white meat on the chicken very (very) dry. other sides again just ok and the desserts (sorbet and ice cream) disappointing. The wine list is expensive and the cocktail very strong , as in not balanced (was it the bartender's night off too?). Oh yeah, toast was who cares. But foie gras very good.\nThe ugly; noise, loud, din, racket; my head is still ringing. But everyone at the restaurant was having a good time including us. Go figure--this is Los Angeles afterall. Alot of money for average food that did not live up to prior visits; will go back but Not on a Monday night or on the weekend and not for awhile.

The white salad lacked flavor. The cauliflower salad was much better. The salmon crudo with pork rinds and steak Tatar were excellent. The foie gras seemed overpriced. It was okay but not something we would order here again. The service was on the slow side. The busboy asked twice if the server had been by. No. He went to get her since she was busy talking with the other servers. It took 15 minutes from the time we were seated for her to take a drink order. The busboy on the other hand was very attentive. I should have gotten his name so he could be complimented.

The food at République is outstanding. It is creative and beautiful. The signature cocktails are amazing and memorable. The overall volume is high and the tall bar area seating is a little uncomfortable, but these are small items that are far over-shadowed by the exciting offerings from the kitchen.

Republique is a unique dining experience - the menu is eclectic but there is something for everyone .The lamb chops were tender and tasty.definitely try the pan drippings on their crusty bread. The ambiance is outstanding - I want to live in a place like this one day. \n\nFood was amazing!!! We really enjoyed the steak tartare, duck confit and the agnolotti. \n\nOur server, also great...only issue was the food was paced a little slow.\n\nOverall, would recommend and thank you!

I have long heard about this restaurant from a friend who worked there. I was not disappointed. The food choices were fantastic and unusual, something for everyone, and well executed. I loved the pig's head with lentils. Our waitress was knowledgeable, friendly and funny. I am looking froward to next time.

This is a wonderful spot with personal touches from start to finish. You walk in and welcomed by an array of freshly made baked goods. And from there, it's heaven. Highlights from our dinner include: smoked mussels, oysters, scrambled egg toast topped with uni (so good!), brussel sprouts, pan served pork with this amazing mustard sauce and berries with meringue and sorbet. Everything was just delicious. I mean really delicious. Fresh, great combination of flavors, just great. Our server offered helpful suggestions and helped us pair our dishes perfectly. I also like that it's a good sized place so it can accommodate many. Tip: In my opinion, we sat in the best spot. It was inside the area where they bake the bread, store the meats and prepare the pasta beforehand. It also faces the kitchen where you can watch the chickens roasting. Smelling the bread and watching the kitchen was a great bonus to an already inspiring dinner out. We'll be trying the restaurant's brunch next!

Like all my previous dinners at Republique, this one had superb food and wine, great service and deafening noise. As it was my birthday, I discussed with the reservationist my desire to hear and be heard during dinner; I guess that's why we were seated at a weird table with uncomfortable stools near the bar. Although it was removed from other tables, it wasn't removed from the noise, which featured blasting music, some of it far too aggressive for dining. I like all kinds of music, including energetic dance music, but not while I'm trying to eat and talk to my friends--which is why this review doesn't get perfect marks. If Republique's staff were a little less insecure, they would realize that there's nothing wrong with letting their patrons determine the soundtrack. Choose the music carefully and turn the volume down.

Anniversary dinner. Wanted something special and loved the look of the menu. Arrived a little early and was initially irritated at being made to stand and wait while others were ushered in ahead of us. But once seated, our table was worth the wait...at a real table, in the window. Our server was great - chatty and informative but not over-familiar - and the sommelier tipped us to a wonderful off-list bottle that went wonderfully with our meal. \nAnd the food? DI-VINE! Asparagus and chile tempura, a wonderful risotto, and Tournedos Rossini were the best we have ever had. Only side note...next time we should order some vegetable sides too... \nAlso had my first italian greyhound...yum!

Must try the Eggs On Toast starter. It's the best soft scrambled egg I've ever tasted! My boyfriend loves the Wood Oven Brussels Sprouts and we order it every time we go to République. It comes with a beautifully poached egg. The Beef Short Rib will not disappoint so get the full order. Considering how pricey the food and drinks are, wish the chairs and backless bar stools were more comfortable.

6 people, all over 60 ,for Saturday night birthday dinner. What a great experience; from the greeting at the front desk to the quiet table( which I requested) the food was excellent . Mushroom pizza, burrata bruschetta, spaghetti vongele, cassoulet, and3 delicious desserts. A terrific experience. A long drive from Pacific Palisades..but so worth it!

Brussels sprouts/ cassette were the high points .apple crumble ice cream . . Wine by the glass starts at $18 which I feel is high. A good sommelier should have a few tricks up his sleeve ( like AOC ) to give options , but that is personal opinion and I would still love to go again but bring a bottle and pay the corkage. Food and service could not of been better

Food was really exceptional. Innovative creative appetizers and desserts, paired with exceptional, hearty main dishes. All served family style. The foie gras with roasted pear was memorable, as was the hamachi crudo appetizer (with a peanut/mint/lemongrass sauce). My panna cotta dessert (with tangerine granita) was fabulous. We were all happy with our main dishes (and the fries are glorious), but the winner was the pumpkin squash agnolotti. We arrived early and sat at one of the long communal tables, but plenty of room between us and the next party, so we felt private. It was a little too noisy for me, and probably very noisy when it is full; and our waitress took rather too a long time between visits (though she was informative and helpful when she came.) The busser kept an eagle eye on our table, and unobtrusively made us feel cared for, however! Pricey, but definitely worth it.

Great $95. steak... The rest of the meal was mediocre. Waitress clearly hated her job... was rude and dismissive. Beautifully designed, lame crowd. Way over priced for what they're offering here. Not even close to what Canpanille was doing.

The food was awful, extremely small portions and way over priced.\nWe were a party of 6 and after ordering appetizers only plus 3 glasses of wine we paid our $300 bill and went to eat at another restaurant.\nWe were all extremely dissappointent because we made reservations 2 months in advance and expected much more.\nThe place is too crowded and the bar area is very small it just looks like a big mess!

The food was amazing! Everything we ordered was simply delicious, especially the eggs on toast. The only drawback was our service. While the waiter was nice, he was not as attentive to our party. I'm not sure if it was because we were upstairs (although the two tables next to us received way more attention from him than we did) but we had to wait a while before he came back to take our order. It was the same way when he gave us our dessert menus; the only time it was quick service was when we asked for our check! Overall though, it was not a big enough deterrent for us to not come back again.

We went to Republique for our 21 year wedding anniversary and had a fantastic time. The hostess have us a great table upon request. Our server was excellent in suggesting foods to try. The manager also added in a couple of extra celebratory glasses of wine - it made the night even that much more special for us! Awesome evening - thank you Republique!\nP. S. This place was awesome! However, they are packed. Only had reservations open for 9:30, but we arrived early on the premise of 'walk ins encouraged' (directly from website). When we got there we were told it would be a 45 minute wait at communal tables where we can get snacks (a nice concept) before being seated at a VERY crowded bar where they were offered a full menu, there were no regular tables for walk-in customers. \n\nWe ended up going down the street to Luna park and having wine while waiting for our reservation. It'd be great if they can open up the communal 'waiting' tables to walk ins for a full menu. Perhaps they are doing it for the kitchen, but it doesn't seem walk in friendly, regardless of what the website says.

The food is good but when you are told that the larger plates are to share you assume it's true. We ordered the filet with foie gras. I guess next time we should ask the weight but it seems like such a hassle that we just may not come back. I had such high expectations maybe because it was my birthday (we did not mention but I guess it added to the disappointment)

The restaurant was busy at an relatively early hour midweek. Extremely noisy de to all hard surfaces, including the seating which was cramped and uncomfortable. The waitress and bus servers even had difficulty getting to remove or serve my orders.

Food was phenomenal. Service was top notch. Fantastic bar with experienced bartenders...try the Meyer Lemon drink...perfection! Recommended dishes: oysters, mussels, steak, and rotisserie chicken. Pass on the butternut squash pasta unless you splurge for the truffle sauce. Only complaint is the seating is ridiculously uncomfortable. We skipped dessert as our party of 6 with a private table (apparently a coveted table) was suffering in pain sitting on wooden backless stools. Maybe its a ploy to get you in and out quickly as the place was packed with a wait list. I highly recommend as the food is amazing...but get in and out as fast as you can before your lower back starts to hate you. And be prepared to pay a 3% California Wellness fee on top of tax and tip. It's probably why service was impeccable.

Interior/design of Restraunt is amazing! So cute! But food is oh-kay. Each item is very small and service was not so great for what we are paying; no explanation of food when they put down the food, they don't change plates till we ask. It's so close to other people and gets super loud. I'd not go back there. I'd say it's nice to try once, because they have interesting menu.

This place is gorgeous. We were seated at a small table. The service here is very efficient. Each course was paced incredibly well. So the table never became crowded. \nThe food was amazing. Before we knew it, we had spend 3.5 hours there. Neither of us could believe those hours past so quickly. Even though the space is lively and energetic, it was not deafening. We managed to have easy conversation the whole evening. \n\nI will definitely be back for brunch as well since the roof appears to be glass and will look amazing during the day.

My foodie friends, and I, hit the town again last night, and had dinner at Republique. Truly one of the best meals we've had yet! From the moment you step into the front door, all senses are aroused from the sights and smells. Beautiful, open kitchen spaces, where foodies can view the action; gorgeous dining spaces, including festive communal tables - the atmosphere is gorgeous. We were seated in the back room, which appears to be a little bit 'quieter' than the front, where my friends and I could enjoy our evening and conversation. Our waiter was perfection - from his cocktail recommendations to his food suggestions - he listened to what our preferences were and helped us choose perfectly. Everything from the bread with drippings to the brussel sprouts and cauliflower to the tart (flat bread, really) to the seafood risotto and the steak were all simply delicious. Even the salads were so crisp and fresh. and perfectly dressed (OMG - I must go back for the hearts of palm with yellowtail salad!). The portions were generous and sharing encouraged. The menu is diverse enough to satisfy just about anyone (I wouldn't bring my finicky kids here, though.) Wonderful restaurant - Delightful evening!!!

The bread and Normandy butter where outstanding. Other than that, the food was disappointing. The mushroom tarte was lukewarm and not well executed. The arroz with seafood was overcooked. Also, the dishes arrived over half an hour apart. The main course only came when we asked our waiter where it was. Bottom line is that it is an interesting menu that was not well executed, either in preparation or timing.

We were seated near the bar and the people spilling out of the bar area were literally on top of us, we couldn't even back up our chairs without hitting someone. That of course made it so noisy, on top of the loud music, that we had to shout at each other. It was a chilly and rainy night but we had to ask for air conditioning to be turned off, we were freezing. Food was very good, but super expensive. So overall not worth the cost and aggravation. There are better experiences to be had in LA for those prices.

We were fortunate to get a reservation as the restaurant was also hosting Golden Globe parties the night we were there. Staff was friendly and attentive. Our server Jamie was helpful with the menu and gracious. Our food was divine. Eggs on toast is something I'll think about for a long time! While my seat meant my back was to the bar and people walking behind me bumped into me on occasion (not the staff, mind you), I loved sitting in the front window where we could see the restaurant and the street. A wonderful way for us to celebrate 15 years of marriage! We would go back for sure.

Waited quite a while to finally secure a reservation and it was worth it!! The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. My personal favorites were the escargot - better than I have ever had because they actually showed restraint with the garlic and butter and did NOT overdo it - and the seafood French style paella. Out of this world! Oh....and the chocolate banana bread pudding was SO good! Make a reservation (even if it is 2 months from now, during the week)!

I love the food and service at Republique. I have eaten here twice and, aside from the delicious French fries, have ordered completely different items both times and have not had a single disappointing dish. Both times the items were incredible. So far, my favorite items are the braised short rib and the pork chop (which can easily be shared by two). The appetizers are all worth trying. \n\nI have two complaints about this place: on a busy night it is extremely noisy. You almost have to shout to be heard. Of course, that has been a problem in restaurants for the last 25 years but it seems to bother me more and more. I know, I've become an old fuddy duddy, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to hear your dinner partner without shouting? The second complaint has to do with their tacky 'medical coverage surcharge.' Just add a dollar to the cost of the entrees and be done with it. I don't need to know what your expenses are when I'm paying these prices.

what is the point of communal table? reservation for 6 pm, arrived 5 minutes before 6pm we checked in the hostess said she will call us when ready meanwhile we can wait here near the door or go to the bar. the bar stool was full, no space near the door no space to wait. other people was arriving, the staff was busy with preparing the prep food on the counter near the door, they were not ready waited for 15 min to be seated. we sat in the corner in the bar at first we were disappointed with the location, we were stuck in the dark corner of the noisy bar we wanted to be in the main dining room they sat couples in the dark in the corner, groups in the communal tables near the open kitchen it turned out the location we were at was somewhat a good location but really tight, dark and noisy. food was good will be back

We arrived earlier than our reservation time and therefore was not seated at a table. We instead, could sit at the communal table. If the hostess didn't make a big deal about that, we wouldn't notice/care. But since she mentioned that, it felt we weren't seated in a 'better' area. However, once we sat down and got our food, we didn't notice anything different, just thought she was weird to point it out. Food: we started with beef tartare and egg on toast. The egg on toast masked the uni flavor and I thought the beef tartare was a bit tough. However, hubby thought it was delicious. The entrees: duck and cote du beouf was excellent. Also, had cauliflower as veggie dish. Excellent! Loved everything! Would totally recommend it to friends/family and definitely a must try.

I absolutely love the celery/spicy cocktail there! My filet mignon was very thin & small, could have been thicker & juicier! The lamb, duck, cauliflower, & salted Carmel chocolate cake were all very good! I have no complaints on those items.

Located in the historic 'campanile' building, the atomshere was inviting and fun, there was an energy, but not too overwhelming. The food is pricey, but everything was done to perfection. The cheeses, oh my gosh! The butternut squash ravioli, well I have never tasted anything like it ever! The short ribs on polenta were delicious and savory, with the right amount of creamy. The filet was cooked to perfection, and tender but very flavorful. The beets...get them! The brussels sprouts, oh my gosh they are fabulous (of course everything is good with bacon, right?) . The desserts were lovely, the creme brûlée has these little toffee like crunchy pieces in them, yum, but the banana nutella tart, heaven! Nice cocktails, a great wine selection, everyone in our party of 6 was very happy. With cocktails, two bottles of wine, and LOTS of food we left at about $650 with tax and a generous tip, just to give you a price reference.

We had heard so many good things and wanted to like this place....The food actually was great. Every dish we ordered, from starters to salad, pasta to entree to dessert. But the prices were ridiculous (are we in Vegas?) for what it is. Service started out okay but fell off a cliff midway through the meal. We agree with other reviews where the bus people paid more attention to us than our waiter. He just kind of went MIA on us. Great food but the price and service don't warrant it. Next time we want to drop 3 bills on a meal for two we'll head to Providence where the value is there for the cost.

Good food, but service and time management needs work. We had reservations for 10 girls at 9:15, but weren't seated until after 10:15. We had to ask to be moved again in order to get all our seats. I would come again, but definitely in a smaller group.
