About Tavern

Tavern is the third restaurant from the chef and sommelier team of Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne, who also own Lucques restaurant and AOC winebar. This is their West Los Angeles outpost, which serves as a local gathering spot for the Brentwood crowd. Chicly designed by Jeffrey Alan Marks, Tavern encompasses three separate, yet connected spaces: a glass roofed atrium dining room, a large blue walled bar and a café space called the Larder that features casual dining, bakery, retail and prepared foods to go. The restaurant serves Suzanne Goin’s signature California/Mediterranean cuisine with just a touch of a classic American influence.

Service was non existent, food was fair. Only thing good was the assistant manager Kevin. Without Kevin, we would have had to find our own table, place our order and cook our food

Food was excellent, especially the octopus apoetizer and crispy Brussels sprouts. Our waiter, however, was brusque and not at all helpful at any point. We were charged twice for the wine bottle and when I pointed it out he said 'oh sure' and walked away. When he returned with the corrected bill he just handed it to me and walked off. Pathetic. His attitude really put a damper on what was otherwise a fine meal

There wasn't any focus or care by management to deliver good service. You could tell they were spending the majority of time talking amongst themselves out in the open and speeding through the entire dinner. Awful.

I love Tavern. Sadly, dinner this past Tuesday was marred by poor service. The waiter, who I had several times before, is by his very nature not a welcoming server (as distinguished from the others who are uniformly great). This time, to the extent that he came around - which was not often - he was downright surly and dismissive. Worse than in the past. My party and I had to wave our hands to get his or the bus boy's attention, to the point that we are got pretty upset. If we ever return, and if he is ever assigned to us, we will politely request another server or another table. It is a shame that a waiter like that is permitted to undermine an otherwise excellent restaurant which has a reputation for taking pride in what it servers and how it serves.

Recommend by winemaker friends. Unfortunately I chose not to drink alcohol that night. Wait staff didn't seem mush interested in service after learning that. Ordered $50+ in appetizers for one and still had to flag down wait staff to get more water. Waiter didn't remember to leave off lemon on my club soda. There are better choices.

Service in main dining room was a little weak this visit. Entrees were good, not sensational. (lamb in particular). But the flatbread with mushrooms and lardons was fabulous. Ambience is always first class. Prefer the bar though.

This was the third time we decided to give Tavern a try, even though we didn't love it the other two times. Why, might you ask, did we go a third time if the other two were not that great? Good question. Because someone else made the reservation, and we decided to give it one more chance. We were going to a play in Westwood, so we got there extra early. We do eat out several times a week around town.\n\nWe do love the overall ambiance of Tavern. It is beautiful inside. Also, the service was quick when we stated we had a play to get to.\n\nThis time, the description of a side dish of beans was not accurate. When the dish arrived, there was a different kind of bean in the dish, but the dish was mainly greens with a strange-tasting bitter sauce. My husband will eat anything, and he could not stomach the flavor in the dish, which did not match the description at all. Heck, for a $17 side dish, it better be what it claims to be. When we told our waitress that we couldn't eat it, she somewhat agreed with us regarding the description (good her her!) and said she would take it back, but did have a bit of an attitude. She seem frazzled.\n\nThe price points on some of the items is not inline with other restaurants who offer the same items, but even tastier, around town. I had the salmon, it was $37, but not in line with other $37 or even lower-priced salmon dishes in other high-end restaurants. Plus, it was not cooked the way I had asked, which would have been the server's responsibility to have double-checked that each item is cooked correctly. I didn't have time to send it back, so ate around the edges and took the rest home.\n\nOverall, it's such a beautiful atmosphere, but they need to have better-trained staff and price points that are in line with their dishes, as well as better descriptions of each item.

The restaurant is beautiful and the food is excellent overall...But the food seems to have gotten heavier lately. Everything has about 1/4 cup too much butter or oil added to it. That was true for the Devil's Chicken, the Scallops and all of the vegetable side dishes. Even the desserts can be too heavy. The key lime pie dessert was really just a pile of what tasted like heavy cream flavored with key lime...and a dollop of raspberry sorbet. They need to lighten things up here.

Extremely expensive for the food quality - nothing was great. I am no professional chef, but my food is way better than the food we had here. Between 4 of us we had 2 steaks - so-so, quinoa roasted veggies- again average, salad was good, cheese plate was no biggie - 3 cheese wedges with nuts and raisins and bread, olive appetizers - tasted like I could have gotten them at Trader Joe's, and I think a chicken dish that was also ok. Drinks were good though - especially the bourbon cocktail.

My husband went for date night. We had a reservation and were seated on time. But once we sat down, no one came to our table for more than 15 minutes. I wish I was exaggerating. When my husband got up and told the manager, he came back and was very apologetic. He gave us a round of drinks and a cheese plate. He was very kind. \n\nOur appetizers -- the octopus and the flatbread -- were very salty. Our main courses were also quite salty, but mine especially so. I ordered the hangar steak frites. The meat was nice, but the fries and the arugula with olive oil and lemon juice were way too salty. I made my husband try some and he was downing water for the rest of the evening. \n\nOverall, a disappointment.

We ate in the atrium, the more elegant and quiet room adjacent to the lively (and loud) bar scene. It happened to be LA Restaurant week so we each decided to try the different offerings which almost gave us a tasting menu! Little gem salad was delicious as were the entrees (including scallops, tender and flavorful short ribs and a hearty pasta dish). Desserts were decadent! Large portions - we just couldn't eat all our dessert. Cocktails were also very good, and the wine list was also varied with some interesting and high quality choices. Our server was very helpful and made us feel comfortable even though one of our group was delayed due to traffic. I would definitely return.

When you think of Tavern, you imagine its inviting dining room with a towering three in the center and skylight over it. It's a great place to sit and sample their outstanding food and wine list. We loved everything we ordered, from burgers to scallops to hangar steak and chicken—even the Brussels sprouts were great.\n\nUnfortunately, that isn't the whole story. If you don't make a reservation far in advance and request the Dining Room, they will probably seat you in the bar (Blue Room). That can be okay, but it's usually it's so crowded that the insane levels of noise will drown out any and all conversation. And some nights they have live music in the same room, so for its ambiance, it's no place to have dinner. You may also be seated in the bakery area in front, which has all the charm of dining in a Yum-Yum Donuts.\n\nGo for the fun bar scene and people watching. Go for the wonderful food and wine. But if you're not in the dining room, maybe go across the street.

Happy Holidays at The Tavern\n\nThis was the second time we've held our small company staff holiday lunch at The Tavern, and we will definitely book again in the future. The atrium room is a great place to sit, as you get the natural light of the day without it being too hot (like a greenhouse). \n\nWe had a late lunch reservation so most people were wrapping up their lunches when we arrived. This led to a bit of a rocky start to our experience in that our server didn't get to us right away, but she was very apologetic and more than made up for it with excellent, attentive service from that point forward. She was actually quite good... pleasant, friendly and professional. Great recovery!\n\nThe food is always great at The Tavern; our staff loves it here. Wonderful appetizers (especially those bacon wrapped dates--YUM!), terrific array of main course selections (fish and steak to die for as well as killer burgers and abundant salads) and oh-so-fabulous desserts! Not a clunk in the bunch! \n\nThanks, Tavern! See you next year... and for many Happy Hours to come!

We were heading back to Northern California on Thanksgiving Day but wanted to have a nice lunch before hitting the road. Tavern was the right choice for us--delicious Thanksgiving food with excellent service. We were seated in The Larder (the bakery in Tavern) which is bright and relaxed; it suited us before our long drive. I'm very picky about proper service and this restaurant was spot-on: attentive and unpretentious. It was a bit pricey but since we weren't having our usual big Thanksgiving dinner, this made up for it. The staff was really great in accommodating a romantic birthday dinner for two. They placed us in the back of the Atrium at a quiet corner table. The starter salads we ordered were unusual and interesting on the menu. The arugula ceasar was tasty if you like heavy anchovie flavor since it was built into the salad. The peach/cheese/watercress salad suffered from bland peaches and muted cheese trying hard to mesh but not quite getting there. The Branzino for two was superb! The accompanying spinich risotto was an almost, missing enough spice/flavor to elevate above bland. The coffee coupe was great, especially with the added chocolate we requested. The champagne by the glass started at $15 and scaled rather quickly to $30...with 3 roses limiting the choice and price points. $17 glass of chardonnay was passable. Overall, we had a lovely social experience and found the food adventurous but uneven. Surely that's easily addressed in the kitchen.

was quite disappointed in the salad selection and the portion I received for my salad considering the cost. i had not been to the restaurant in years...due to the same memory but a friend suggested it for another friends birthday, so I thought I would give it a 2nd chance. I selected a sandwich that could also be a salad (with arrugula) and not only was there barely any arrugula and I said something to my waiter and he agreed, so he made a big deal of saying he would see about not charging me for that addition (2-3 bucks) and made a big deal of saying that the manager said it was okay. my salad should have been much fuller. I hate it when restaurants skimp on items that are not costly (like lettuce/arrugula, etc). not even the tuna or other ingredients were substantial. and we had to request refills on our iced beverages. a quality restaurant should take care of that before we have to flag someone down.

Our waiter (very tall, light brown hair), didn't get his name, unfortunately, was very rude and impatient. When he found out I wasn't ordering wine because I was driving. . he got so irritated and I felt pretty uncomfortable. I get the raising of the bill for drinks makes the tax and tip higher. . but don't make it so obvious!!! I would never come back here all on the account of the waiter. I liked it very much. I eat out in Brentwood a lot and I think Tavern is one of the better restaurants there. Its very convenient ,the staff was professional. They have a great bar and a beautiful garden-like dining room. It has a casual elegance to it, which I prefer; not stuffy and not too casual. Food was very good, not unusual. I'll definitely be back

We went on a Wednesday early evening. The noise level was excruciatingly loud, even in the far corner of the dining room away from the bar. The tables were very close together and we could hear every word from the adjacent conversation. Our waiter was a bit full of himself and appeared unhappy when I failed to order his recommendation. Overall, we were sorry we chose this restaurant. The supporting staff were so much more friendly than the wait staff. The food was prepared nicely and was tasty but the atmosphere was too much too bear. I would not return.

Everyone was thrilled with our choice of Tavern for great food, a nice sparkling wine, and the lovely setting.\n\nKudos to the kitchen! I have been here at least thirty times. It is consistently reliable. The ambiance is usually five star but the city sewer had a leak the night we were there and that made for less than beautifully fragrant air at the end of our meal. We were graciously comped half our meal! Will be back soon.

Also served a large amount in one glass and then a little bit in others. \nServed our branzino very poorly. We came here for a birthday dinner. The service is outstanding and the ambiance is fabulous, glitzy, glamorous, and glowing. The food is pricey for what you get, most entrees start to get into the $40 range and the starters are $15-$23. That's expensive! Corkage is $25, which I thought was a bit high as well. So we'll keep this for very special occasions, better value to come for lunch.

The selection of signature drinks were clean, simple and uncomplicated expressions of the contemporary appreciation of fresh, natural flavors infused with classic spirits. The beer choices are well curated and representative of an aficionado's palate. The list of wines provides both depth and breadth, without being overwhelming. It also reflects the tendency of the establishments clientele towards sophistication within the realm of wine. \nThe appetizers are spins on classic delicious flavors. Offerings are well-paired, accentuate the quality of the ingredients which becomes clearly evident with the touch of a restrained preparation. \nThe entree offerings reflect the executive chef's respect for high quality ingredients, accompanied by concern for providing the best vehicles to compliment and share the carefully selected flavors. \nVery well-prepared, well worth the slightly higher than average average ask of a run-of-the-mill restaurant with a similar menu.\nIn a brief summation: Excellent interpretations of classic American choices with their own creative accents. \n The thoughtful preparations and quality of ingredients are well worthy of Tavern's reputation of New American classics in a chic and upper-scale restaurant. The graduated progressions of cafe, bar, and dining room each carry their own ambiance, that are well matched to the fare and occasion of the meal. \n A thorough enjoyment and neighborhood gem, that would not disappoint as a destination to anyone.

The pancakes, the benedict, all was amazing and perfect. eggs benedict are so hard to do well since the hollandaise sauce and poached egg needs to be PERFECT. \n\nDinner was ok. Entrees were slightly expensive. some of the comfort food like onion rings and burgers were made to look fancy, but missed the mark a bit. The buns were really disappointing on the burgers, especially since they are known for their breads. The bun seemed to have a stale, store-bought consistency. My husband and I had dinner with a very old friend whom we haven't seen for several years (he lives across the US). My husband has a disease that necessitates that he observe a very strict diet, at least for a while. I called in advance and asked if they thought we could be accommodated, and they said definitely, that we should talk to the waiter when we sat down. We did, and he was enormously helpful, checking with the kitchen on everything my husband thought he might like to eat, to see what the ingredients would be and how they could modify the selections. We've had helpful wait staff in other restaurants, but he went further than we've ever had. As a consequence, my spouse was able to order something that he enjoyed and felt safe in eating. The menu is interesting, and the food well prepared and aesthetically appealing. We sat in the atrium, which is lovely, with lots of light and nowhere near the enormous noise level of the front of the restaurant. Unfortunately, though we live in the neighborhood, it's not really a 'neighborhood gem,' as it's quite pricey. I'm sure we'll come again, but probably not too often, only because of that.

We would have ordered a bottle of wine but the waiter did not come over to us during our 1st course or until after our main course was served and we asked the runner to fetch our waiter. They would do well to add a few quality mid-priced bottled to each category.

We had a very good meal at Tavern. The place is remodeling, so we weren't sure when we arrived that it was still open. But the half that is still functioning was trendy and lively and VERY loud. It was Sunday brunch time and it was packed. Luckily we had a reservation. \n\nI had the squash blossoms with asparagus, prosciutto and creamy polenta. The squash blossoms were stuffed with ricotta, battered and fried. They were delicious. And unlike others I've had, had a fingerling zucchini attached. A nice touch. An unexpected treat was a drizzle of Meyer lemon hollandaise which added a tart umph. Very good indeed. \nHubby's white anchovy toast was tasty. The anchovies were mild with a tart citrus salsa. The toast was a very odd texture, so tough he couldn't cut it with a knife or bite into it. Luckily he's not a big fan of bread. \nThe portions were small --we both finished ours, which is unusual as we usually split an entree and have leftovers. Pricey too, in the &15-$20 range. The only Chardonnay by the glass on the extensive wine list was $16. \n. The service was spotty. We had at least three waiters and two bus boys working at cross-purposes and often hurrying past us as we tried to get more water or a roll to replace the inedible bread (we never got the roll.)\n\nThe food was such good quality that we would go back if we are in the area.

My pastry was cold despite asking to have it warmed up and it came 10 minutes after my yogurt+granola. As for the granola it had only a spoonful of yogurt as thought it were some kind of garnish. We were celebrating a bday so they complimentary brought us 2 desserts, a berry crumble and a chocolate divine slice with something indescribably crunchy and peanuts and ice cream. A table of 2 ladies across the room randomly sent us 3 glasses of champagne, which was so unexpected & sweet. We, also, had wonderful mixed drinks! Ms. Goin really gets it right from start to finish! I've been here several times and each time I swear that I will never go back. It was my friend's special birthday and she wanted to go here so I agreed, hoping that this time it would not disappoint. We live close by and it is a lovely room so I really wanted to enjoy this experience. It has never hit the mark. First of all, I made a reservation ahead and when I arrived was taken to a small table right near the entrance to the room....definitely not one of the coveted spots. When I asked about the corner tables which were vacant I was told that they were 'reserved' even though there was no sign on either of the two corner tables. (Obviously being held for more important customers!) I was offered a table in the back sandwiched between 'ladies who lunch' and it was a better choice. The waiter was friendly enough but absent through much of the lunch. Our appetizer never arrived and I had to inquire about it three times before we got it, which was almost at the end of the meal. The food is good, but nothing really special. People go here to see and be seen. As the restaurant cleared out, the waiters must have all taken their lunch break at the same time. For about 10 minutes there was virtually no wait staff whatsoever on the floor with at least 20 tables occupied. For a restaurant of this stature, that's really terrible management. Tavern L.A. I'm done! There are so many other good places around why go here to be treated so poorly.

Very popular Brentwood eatery. Very noisy in the bar due to 20something happy hour patrons. The restaurant itself was very noisy as well due to the acoustics! The food was fine. Nothing memorable and for the prices it should have been. The drinks were pricey ($16) and on the weak side. We had Branzinno ($70 for 2) tasty but tiny share portion. Also had the salmon $32 and nothing special. .The service was attentive. All in all it was a very expensive but average night. I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

I've known Suzanne and Carolyn for a long time. They are two of the smartest, friendliest, and talented people in the restaurant space. At any of their locations, you always find warmth, innovation, and wonderful food. I love the Steak Frites, Cobb Salad add Salmon, and her Turkey Burger! At Tavern specifically, you're dealing with the Westside of LA and all that goes with it. I'm generalizing, however, customers seem to want safe and guaranteed. They've done a wonderful balancing act of providing that and continuing to experiment. Suzanne is an amazing chef. No question about it. If I had one suggestion, it would be to figure out a way to create a somewhat loosened up vibe. Easy to say, hard to do. Lastly, I love The Larder. It feels like Mom and Pop. I'll always dine at any/all of their places. Feels like family!!

Food was very mixed. Massively overdressed escarole salad (not the freshest greens) followed by an extremely heavy chicken pot dish - way too much mustard. My wife's choices were fine. Hit and miss. Waiter forgot about us several times and brought the check before my wife had her dessert served. They need more wait staff.\n\nDrinks were extremely small, clearly intended to get you to buy multiple rounds . $14 for a mixed drink and $17 for a glass of wine - both of which were well below the size of 'normally acceptable' restaurant pours.

My friend and I had lunch at The Tavern in the Atrium area and it was lovely! While it was louder than I expected due to the high ceilings, the overal ambience was really nice. Our server was polite, knowledgeable and was around 'just enough' without hovering. The food, however, was the best part .... absolutely delicious. And I left my reading glasses on the table, which normally means a lost pair. But no ... as I breezing down the freeway I received a call that they'd been found and would hold them for me until I could return. So an A+ on customer service as well! I look forward to going back very soon, as well as recommending to my friends, which I've already done via Twitter!

Food was fairly good but sandwich had filling slapped into the middle & not spread to edges. Another person's chicken salad was like a fast food salad- sparse, brown lettuce & tasteless. Service was deplorable - it took us over 2 hours for a simple lunch.\n\nBy far the worst aspect was the loudness - we couldn't visit with the people we were with. Others in our party ordered one of the salads and an egg dish that was served in a little pan. Everyone raved about the food. While the restaurant is great we also love to do damage in the larder. Breads and desserts there are to die for. Beware if you have a sweet tooth and/or love bread. I have been going to Tavern at least once a week for the past 6 years as we live walking distance. Yesterday I was in the Larder at 5 pm with 2 others and we ordered the fish tacos and a Lucques gimlet and an Arnold Palmer and the fries w fried herbs. All great. \n\nIn the dining room or bar, daughter #1 likes the red meat- lamb meatballs, burger, steak & the grilled peach salad. My husband likes the turkey burger w arugula salad. Daughter #2 likes the Pilgrim Sandwich (turkey of course, cranberry, etc). I think they do fish entrees great. Nothing comes close to the Snickers Bar for chocolate dessert. On the fruit side when there's a cobbler just get it. \n\nWeekend breakfast is fun to sit outside in the shade with their NY Times & our Cavalier Spaniel and share pancakes, eggs w herbs, a naughty pecan roll or the best almond croissant ever. Scones too. Just stop me. Thick bacon. Fresh OJ.

I've been here several times over the past five years or so. It used to be top-notch, but the service and food have deteriorated over the past few visits. This time, the hostesses were absolutely apathetic. The server seemed friendly, but not extremely knowledgable. I told him I had a gluten allergy, and somehow the kitchen interpreted it as a nut allergy. My dish was delivered with a huge piece of bread on top and I had to send it back. Food was mediocre and seemed thrown together. I won't come back unless the management gets things back into shape.

Where do I start? I guess with the waitstaff. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant and came to the host stand, we were treated so warmly and graciously. The demeanor of the entire staff was so warm, so helpful -- we felt so welcomed! I have read on other reviews that others were not pleased with the waitstaff -- maybe that was at night or when it was very busy, but when we arrived for lunch, it was heaven. Special thanks go to our server, Bryan, who was particularly helpful, professional, and right on about everything he suggested.\n\nThen, the food! We split the larder cobb with romaine, sweet potatoes, beets, chickpeas and avocado. An unusual cobb, to be sure, but the flavors were amazing. And the vinaigrette! I WISH I had that recipe! It just made the salad. Then, we split the special of the day, which was the fried green tomato, bacon, turkey, avocado and lettuce sandwich with harissa sauce, grilled. OMG. But wait! THEN we ordered the nicoise sandwich with Spanish tuna, tomato, black olive and egg on ciabatta bread!\n\nBryan had tactfully suggested that perhaps we might be needing a container to take some of it home if we ordered all of that, and he was right, of course. Particularly because we are two older women, and the servings are quite generous! We ate the hot sandwich, because that wouldn't have been as good heated up again, and we split the nicoise sandwich the next day. Excellent! And he even provided us with a bag of ice for our tuna sandwich since we wouldn't be returning home the next day.\n\nI only wish we had been able to have dessert! Oh, well. We'll be back.

As long-time patrons of both Lucques and Tavern, we were quite disappointed with our meal at Tavern. It started when we arrived: we had to wait for our table--not entirely unusual for a weekend evening, BUT, a part of two who arrived after we did, were seated first--even though they did not have a reservation. We did. When we were finally seated in the very noisy Blue Room (not asked which room we preferred), and gave our order, which was very simple, it took over an hour to get our main courses: mine was pasta and my husband's was soup! In between finishing our drinks and waiting for our food, a busboy swung by our table and removed the pepper--back facing us, and not asking whether we needed it or not. When the food finally arrived, we were pretty underwhelmed--the flavors and sauces were not the quality we've come to expect from Ms. Goin's establishments. The meal was NOT worth the wait. This restaurant seems to be surviving on its location and its laurels--it certainly isn't surviving on its food or its service.\n\nTime to pay attention in the kitchen and to train the staff. Not going back any time soon.

Tavern is a great, if not inexpensive, option for a pleasant business lunch. I prefer to sit in the naturally lit 'outside' area. The salad trio is always a good option and the salads and entrees are always solid, as you would expect from any place Suzanne Goin is involved with. They also serve a good cup of coffee, which is too rare these days...

When you are sitting in the main room at Tavern, you are in a world of light and height. The food is good. The desserts are worth the calories. The waitstaff is friendly. But the star here is the setting. If you like bars, this one is stunning and noisy. There is a small informal space near the charcuterie (great selection of cheeses, salads etc) that is just a pleasant space for a quick meal. But try the main room at least once.

I booked a business dinner at Tavern last Sunday. My guest ordered the fried chicken appetizer and scallops. They were delicious. I ordered the green goddess salad and ricotta gnocchi. The salad was fine, but I was so incredibly disappointed with the gnocchi. It was over-peppered and they were like hard little rocks. Whenever I've ordered ricotta gnocchi, I've gotten light and fluffy puff balls of goodness. These were dense, hard rocks. VERY DISAPPOINTED and I won't be going back any time soon.

While I've enjoyed Tavern in the past, this experience was less than great. Even though we had made a reservation, we had to wait 20 minutes. They were very apologetic, however. The food was fair. Not all the entrees came out at once and some were lukewarm. Burned toast and they made some mistakes on the order. The servers were very obliging and tried hard. They seemed to be a bit stressed; maybe too many tables to handle. I've been to Tavern for brunch before and it was better, so I hope this was just an 'off' day.

I ordered the Branzino for 2 only to get a piece of fish that was barely enough for one. Even the patrons at the table next to ours could not believe how small this portion was (for 2??) and still got charged $62.00. Totally unreasonable. Further, once I got my bill I noticed a 3% surtax called a 'healthcare tax' so I asked our waiter what this was all about and apparently, the owner Suzanne Goin, a very successful chef business woman with 3 busy restaurants in LA can't afford to provide healthcare for her employees, really? and so she decided to charge her customers to finance her employee healthcare premiums..unheard of...So I had that removed from our tab and only to find out that our own waiter was actually paying for his own healthcare premiums without any help from his wealthy boss

The service was probably the worst part. They took forever to even take our orders and took even longer bringing our food. We ordered one salad, one entree (char), and two drinks and the bill came out to $100. Way too overpriced. The restaurant itself is well decorated and has a nice ambiance but it is definitely not worth going. The food was also nothing special. Too often the host or hostess is indifferent (on the computer, etc) and does not greet us - for. Instance 'nice to see you, etc.). Recently made a reservation 4 days in advance for the Atrium and was told we would have to be there at 5 PM. The reservation was confirmed twice. We arrived at 5 PM and were told our reservation was at a later time - this was not true and we would not be seated in the atrium. A manager told us that they never confirm seating in the Atrium. This is not so and has never happened n the past. This did not make me and my family happy. The Atrium had not even been opened when we arrived. Eventually, we sat in the section of the bar near the stairs leading to the Atrium. Others were being seated in the Atrium. The food was very good as was the waiter. Also, I believe the menu is somewhat limited. How about a roast chicken dish ( the deviled chicken is not for everyone) and more selections of fish. One last thing, once I ordered the chocolate cake for dessert and it was the most tasteless chocolate cake I have ever experienced. By comparison Costco offers a terrific chocolate fudge cake - try it. All things considered, I like The Tavern but first how about a warm welcome when entering and treating patrons with a good attitude and attention..

Tavern was fine. Very expensive category - entree $36, salads $16. Lots of very young people in their 20s and 30s on their phones dining there. Noise level very loud. I got there at 6 and it was decent until 7, but after that it was shit. Table are very close together in long rows. You can hear the conversations on either side of you WHICH I HATE!!!\n\nWe were sitting in the Atrium which is the quiet room. :-)) There is also a bar in the next room with some tables. That is noisier. There is also a room at the front with a deli case for casual lunches. No one was sitting there. \n\nThe food was delicious, no mistake about that. I had an escarole salad with anchovy, garlic, croutons and a light lemon oil dressing - Parmesan cheese too. Their version of Caesar salad. My husband had their soup of the day - a pumpkin and squash soup which was divine. I had a spoonful. Then I had something called the Devil’s Chicken which was a chicken breast that was coated with mustard and breadcrumbs and sauteed, then put with braised leeks and fingerling potatoes in the oven to bake. It was carmelized and gorgeous and very rich tasting. I ate it all. My husband had the pasta shaped like an ear (I cannot spell it. starts with an Or) with pancetta, spinach and Parmesan. Pasta cooked perfectly but definitely an uninspired dish. For dessert, we shared the Snickers something or other. It was basically a hard bar of dark chocolate on the outside with chocolate mousse in the middle and sprinkles of peanuts on top with a dark chocolate glaze over all. It was delicious. I had two scotches - $13 for Dewars each, and a port for $11 which was fair. I hate getting slammed with big prices and small pours on drinks.\n\nI'm glad I went, but I would not go back. Too many other restaurants in this town just as good or better with less noise, tables further apart and better service.

I am sure that this restaurant is better when there is a full menu available. We had a highly mediocre and COLD meal. We arrived at 7:00pm and were sat in the bar area where the football game was on and the room was cold and drafty. We requested to be moved and were told that would be impossible. No other options available on Thanksgiving, we had to keep our coats on for the duration of the meal. Worse, our meal was so underwhelming that it was depressing. The turkey was dry and the stuffing was so dry that it seemed as if was scraped from the bottom of a pan. At one point, someone from the management came by to check on us and then just kept moving as if he were running away and didn't have the courtesy to look at us or wait for an answer... none of us could get a word out. The big dining room at Tavern is gorgeous without being the slightest bit pretentious (some of the patrons are hilariously so, but welcome to LA). The space is somehow made intimate by the curved booths and softened with the trees. This of course would all be meaningless if the food wasn't delicious, which it is. I wish Tavern were less expensive, but we understand what city we are in and how much sustainable local stuff costs. Tavern was highly recommended to me, so a friend and I lunched there and really enjoyed it in all respects. Because of this I went again 4 days later with my daughter for a special occasion. Having prepared her for a wonderful lunch, I was really embarrassed by the experience. To begin with, after we ordered, we waited for almost half an hour for our food to be served. People who arrived after us were served sooner, even though what we ordered was standard. No one checked on us, apologised, or acknowledged the delay in any form. In fact, throughout the meal, the severs appeared supremely disinterested.\nAs for the food........ disappointing is far too mild a term. My daughter had ordered the same 3 salads I had loved 4 days previously. She was not impressed. I tasted, and she was right! They were limp, watery, and nondescript. Moreover, I'm sure they were not freshly made. Probably sat in the fridge for days!\nI had ordered the turkey burger. It was bland and slightly lumpy. McDonalds might have done better. \nNeedless to say, we skipped desert and left asap, vowing never to return.

Food is good to great (I think it got better recently) - I'd say 4.5 stars. Bread here is fantastic and so are the staff. It's upscale casual, a perfect place for Hollywood business lunch, or upscale dinner without that East-coast stuffy. You may run into Hollywood notables, so good place to take your out-of-town guests. (I saw Norman Lear eating with his agent for lunch, and two former stars from Friends were dining next to me for dinner). They seem to change their menu frequently - and creates many dining options in price from casual cafe, to bar dining, to more 'formal' dining. \n\nI'm definitely coming back - and go-to spot in Brentwood area for me.

Went with a group of guy friends for Sunday brunch. We were definitely the loudest and most obnoxious table there. I was pretty in arrears about it, but the wait staff was perfect in actually morphing their style of service to accommodate our table. \nThe food is outrageously good. Ingredients are fresh, plateing is immaculate, options are very creative and fresh. We had ricotta pancakes chicken and waffles, abaca do and salmon toast, everyone was raving about the food...\nAnd the seating. Sit in the atrium, don't bother with the other rooms. It ads so much to the experience of eating there. \nHonestly this is a must hit place for out of towners who enjoy good food, and a great place for an intimate dinner and brunch with loved ones. \nGo, you won't regret it.

At Tavern one will dine well because Chef Suzanne Goin is so creative. A salad of Burrata, purslane, Proscuitto and grilled peaches was absolute perfection. Each flavor complemented the other.\nThat is just one example of another wonderful meal at Tavern.\nLovely, attentive service. Outstanding cocktails and warm and welcoming ambiance all contribute to the success of this fine restaurant.

I love eating at Tavern. I have been for lunch many times. The seating is comfortable, and it feels like sitting in a sun drenched atrium with its sky lights. The service is always outstanding. This trip I had the three-salad combination. It could not have been more flavorful. The only downside is the sound level. I have found that you have to speak loudly to be heard by table mates. Nonetheless, I love this place and look forward to my next meal.

We brought our family here to for a midafternoon lunch to celebrate our daughter's college graduation. The grandparents appreciated the quiet atrium space, and we all felt relaxed in its light, airy atmosphere. Our server really knew the menu, including the bar offerings, and paced everything slowly, as we wanted, enabling us to take our time and share our stories. Delicious food to suit all tastes and a very pleasant party!

Tavern was marvelous on Mother's Day. In addition to the regular menu, they offered a 3 course prix fixe menu for $45.00. The special menu was marvelous. There was a choice of 2 appetizers and choice of 2 mains +dessert. I had the salad which contained a lovely combination of flavors. I chose the halibut as my entree and it was grilled perfectly. Other's in my party chose the Osso Bucco and all proclaimed it was the best they had ever tasted. It really was beautifully prepared and served. All dishes were pronounced outstanding by the 5 members in our party. Service was stellar. Tavern never disappoints. It is always wonderful. Last night was no exception. Have been to this restaurant a number of times for special occasions and generally the staff and the kitchen have done very well, but with noticeable lapses in small things like being attentive to clearing plates from the table or addressing the needs of older diners. \n\nThis time, however, was different. We had an early seating shortly after the restaurant started its dinner service. The room was bathed in beautiful late afternoon, near sunset light. Our table was perfectly placed near the lovely tree. Every dish we ordered from the dungeness crab salad to the Spanish Fried Chicken to the Hanger Steak & Fries to the coconut milk panna cotta was superb. The wine recommendations were spot on. The wait staff was friendly and professional. \n\nThe Tavern should be on everyone's list.

The service at Tavern is so accommodating. My daughter and I split a radish salad with lemony dressing. Delicious! A toast with crab. Also delicious! And a toast with arugula, buratta and prosciutto. And also delicious! The bar tender was kind enough to split a Marguerita for us. We ate there at 3 pm after a seven hour flight from San francisco. First and foremost the food! The most amazing duck -moist, crispy outside, flavor to die for. The beet salad equally delightful - I would LOVE the recipe. We often order both of these items at restaurants, and these were the best we've had anywhere. The mushroom flatbread pizza-like item (not sure what they called it) was very good, but I personally would venture to something else given how terrific the other things were. \nGreat wine list, very interesting specialty mixed drinks, hip adult scene.\nService was fantastic. Very attentive, though a subtle upsell.\nThat said, well worth the drive into the industrial zone. We went there before a show at Disney Concert hall - easy drive from here to there. We will go again with friends!

On Valentine's day, the 'table for twos,' while nice, were too closely arranged in a straight line. Each person ends up much closer to the person the next table over, instead of my date across the table. Its hard to keep your eyes from looking at the person sitting diagonal from you as well. On top of that, it is easier to hear the talking of the person the next table over than it is to hear my date across from own own table. \n\nIf you do not stare with laser focus straight ahead, you will end up looking at someone the next table over, which you shouldn't have to be wary of doing during a romantic night out.

I've been wanting to try Tavern for dinner since I love nearby. We were able to get a table in the atrium, which is very pretty. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and made some nice recommendations. I had the lamb ossobucoand my husband had the pork chop. Although both were attractively plated, well prepared, and very flavorful, they were BOTH way too salty. It was almost as if they'd double salted both dishes. So, nothing subtle there, and I was a bit disappointed by that. The wine selection by the glass was very limited and they were out of my first choice, the Malbec blend. The cab was ok, but my husband's Grenache was sweeter than he expected. All in all, we were happy to have a night out in a special restaurant in our neighborhood but I found the food disappointing, and we probably wouldn't go back. Still, I would recommend it to those who have never been- just for the experience.

We would have given 5-star had it not been for our bad experience with the 3 hostess seating guests. We were seated after people with no reservation and after a wave of customers checking in. After all guests waiting in the lobby were seated, we approached the hostess and indicated that we were still waiting for a table. The hostess responded that we needed to wait because we made a same day reservation (on OpenTable). Be prepared for a rude hostess if you can make a same day reservation. \n\nOn a better note, food and service (after you are seated) was great!\n\nNote to Tavern: If you are not going to honor same day reservations, then change your policy.

The ambience at Tavern is lovely. We ate in the atrium and it was beautiful. The food was fresh and delicious, my main critique is that it was under seasoned. The bacon wrapped dates were to die, the Tavern Trio (you choose 3 out of 7 salads) was good but needed sea salt, the curried broccoli soup need a pat of butter and a swirl of creme fraiche along with a generous sprinkle of sea salt - then it was delicious. The burgher was good, the turkey and cranberry sandwich needed something, maybe a gravy dip??? It was fresh but kind of boring. The coconut panna cotta was DELISH!! Overall we enjoyed the experience but I was hoping to be ROCKED by the food, which we weren't.

The Tavern has three spaces: 1) front/Larder-- casual bakery space 2) middle-- upscale sports bar space 3) back/greenhouse garden-- classy brunch space. We were a party of 7 for a Sunday brunch/birthday party, sitting in the upscale sports bar space. Seating there is on tufted couches/banquettes and arm chairs. Nice atmosphere. Slate blue walls. TV volume muted; bar volume moderate. Some guests were standing in the upscale bar area, waiting for a table. Not obtrusive, but it's a tad odd to have brunch with people standing and milling around near your table. Service was prompt and friendly; our waiter was well-versed in the culinary offerings. Our party tried the Tavern Benedict, Chorizo and Eggs, and the Butternut Squash pancakes. Creative offerings; however, I would have to give every dish we tried a C+ grade. Creative dishes with twists that just didn't deliver on taste. The Benedict was a fail. It consisted of two poached eggs atop a thick, dry, flavorless, barely-toasted slice of bread; it featured gruyere and prosciutto but not enough of either to provide flavor much less dominate the overplayed quantity of arugula piled onto the plate. The pancakes were interesting, earthy, almost healthy-tasting. The Chorizo and Eggs should have been spicy, yet they were not. Lack of seasoning across all dishes we tried. I would not return for brunch. I would, however, return for a cocktail with friends or possibly a lunch because the location is darling and the ambiance is really nice.

Booked online for New Years Eve with several confirmation emails. I also emailed the restaurant directly to advise I will not have an USA cell but can be contacted via email, however we can confirm we will definitely be there.\n\nWe arrived at the restaurant to find that the kitchen wasn't open until another hour but they will not have a table for us?!?\n\nHostess casually claimed they called and left a voicemail and I clarified that was impossible given they did not have my phone number. She then corrected herself and said 'oh yes we didn't call'. They did not try to find alternative options for us and effectively turned up their noses. The mistake was on their part and they didn't even try to find a solution and it was New Years Eve! Other places were fully booked out! We were visitors from Australia, picked their venue for New Years dinner and they didn't even acknowledge their mistake.\n\nArrogant and complete disappointment. We have eaten here many times since the restaurant opened. Lunch here is on a downhill slope: the food is decent, but it is no longer stellar. The menu needs a jumpstart--the food and service seem to be on autopilot--when they opened it seemed that more of the menu had some seasonal dishes. Now, Tavern seems tired and doesn't have the same spark it had before AOC relocated. The dishes are serviceable, but not outstanding.\n\nThe parking was a nightmare--this is something that will need resolution if this restaurant wants to kept its customer base. The valets are downright surly most of the time. The lot each time we've been here, for the last three times, has been full. The restaurant hostesses don't seem to be tuned in to this issue, but it definitely downgrades the dining experience.\n\nIt's time for Ms. Goin to put some focus towards the West.

About a year ago I had Saturday brunch at Tavern, and it was wonderfully good. There was a sweet-and-savory bacon-and-pastry dish that was worth going back for, but I thought that this time I'd try some other dishes. Boy, was that a mistake. I combined a pain au chocolat with an order of bacon and a side of fried potatoes. I specifically asked that the bacon not be done to crispness. What arrived were several cold, leathery strips, most of them crisp. Then the hostess came to tell me that they didn't have pain au chocolat; so, I ordered the almond croissant. It was dry, and stale, with some sort of too-sweet white icing -- like it needed it? I had to ask our waiter and busboy to fill my cup of decaf, since they clearly didn't care whether I had more or not. My three companions weren't wild about their meals either. And then there are the rest rooms... They're labyrinthine; and, the floor was in need of a mopping.
