About The Factory Kitchen

The Factory Kitchen is the first concept from the FactoryPlaceHospitalityGroup that opened to high acclaim in 2013.
Helmed by Restaurateur Matteo Ferdinandi, his wife Beverage Director Francine Diamond-Ferdinandi and their longtime friend and Partner Executive Chef Angelo Auriana, the Factory Kitchen re-defined the approach and the experience to casual dining in the city by combining elements of culinary arts, service, and design.
A traditional Italian Restaurant & Bar in the heart of the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, the Factory Kitchen culinary concept focuses on local recipes from the Northern Italian Regions; but emphasizes on some Ligurian traditional dishes like Mandilli di Seta al Pesto alla Genovese and the Focaccina Calda al Formaggio di Recco.

Whitney took very good care of us 4 and found us a good Italian wine. It's kinda noisy, especially for a Sunday at 5, but not crazy. Food is ridiculously good. 1923 Negroni is their only mixed drinks without acid and is excellent.

The food is great and brings some true Italian taste. Parking is very convenient and the wine list quite rich. The wines are on the expensive side, though. The nice view of the kitchen adds a positive touch to the ambiance. The only complain is that on Fridays the place is very crowded and extremely noisy. To the point that after 8p it became very difficult to have a conversation, even with your neighbor.

The flatbreads and pastas were quite amazing but the mains, salad and dessert that we tried were very mediocre. The portions are also extremely small and the prices quite high (especially for the mains which we didn't love). The stand out dishes for us were the fiori and funghi flatbread ($23), mandilli di seta ($20), and fiorelli ($22). The kale salad was kind of dry and the apple crostata was nothing to write home about. We also had the cod which was really underseasoned ($36) and the sottopaletta (flat iron steak $37) which was quite salty. My husband and I both had 2 glasses of wine and our friends had 2 cocktails each and espressos to end and the meal ended up costing $360. To be honest, id rather dine at drago or bestia....I don't think I'll think back.

We had a wonderful dinner. There was a little hiccup in the pacing between our starters and the mains, but the staff noticed (without our saying anything) and responded in a very professional and appropriate way. It did not detract from a great dining experience. We will definitely be back.

The handkerchief pasta was absolutely Divine! I would give the restaurant top points across the board if not for the noise level by the time we left. It was very uncomfortable, difficult to hear and made us feel like we wanted to hurry up and leave. I would love to go back Beaufort the special pasta dish.

Delicious as usual! We enjoyed the mandilli di seta, barberosse gratinate, frittura, gnocchi malfatti, chicken pate, and of course, pannacotta for dessert. I do have one small complaint -- the crostini served with the pate was so crispy it actually detracted from the creamy texture of the pate. Perhaps it would be good to serve some plain baguette slices as well.

Probably some of the best food I've had in LA in 20+ years. The only thing that I found odd was that even though I had made reservations weeks in advance and for an early dining hour, we were seated right by the door, which was distracting because of all the people who kept entering the restaurant. Tables are also a bit closer than one would like considering the premium charged for food. Still, portions are ample and food is well-presented. I would recommend for special occasions and for a special night out.

My wife and I ate at the restaurant on Monday night. Everything was delicious and we felt so well taken care of. Our favorite was the Focaccina Calda di recco al Formaggio. We had the fiore & fungi, which is now something I'm craving all the time. We also ordered the Peperu, Prosciutto, Mandilli di Seta, and the Steak that was on the menu on Monday. Everything was so good! We even had to order the Crostata for dessert. I hope we are back soon and we will share your restaurant with some friends very soon.

The food here wakes up all kinds of taste buds all of which are very pleasing. I recommend ordering the handkerchief pasta (house special) it's freshly cooked and satisfying (not filling). Order any drink off the cocktail menu, the bartenders know just what people are looking for!

This was my second time at The Factory Kitchen. First, the food is incredible. I'm a veg & there's even plenty of options for me. Second, the service is amazing. The esthetics are very cool, and quite industrial. However, the service is comparable to a 4 or 5 star restaurant. The staff is very very attentive to detail. I could go on for ages, but just go, go, go to Factory Kitchen. It really is a fine dining experience in an industrial , yet chic, environment.

Love love love this place! Was looking forward to my next visit before I even left. The food was amazing. The pasta so fresh and flavorful. And the dessert... I saw it come out and could not believe my eyes and tastebuds! Their pesto is like velvet and their stuffed peppers are amazing! Service was amazing! They were on top of making sure we were good, that our waters were filled and even switched out silverware after every dish. Kudos to that team! Can't wait to go back!

Factory Kitchen had been enthusiastically recommended to us so we were excited to try! We had to wait about 20 mins for our table, even with a reservation, but it was okay because there was room at the bar and we were in no rush. Food was OUTSTANDING and we all enjoyed the pastas especially. Our waitress was hilarious and delightful. Get the cannoli!

Great food! Absolutely the best pasta I have ever had. But, the room is so noisy and crowded that it is almost impossible to have a conversation with your companions. And, we had a 7:00 reservation; arrived 10 minutes early and had to wait for 40 minutes outside of the restaurant as the bar was too crowded and there was no room there. That kind of put a damper on the evening. The hostesses were very abrupt, not at all welcoming and acted like we were bothering them when we checked in. They never smiled at anyone. Luckily, we had a terrific waiter who gave us great service and was happy to explain the various, creative dishes when he had questions. \nBottomline: go to eat but not to visit or catch up with friends.

Waited 40 minutes for a table even though we had reservations. Same with a couple other parties who we talked to. This was not the first time it happened for any of us. But when you get your food, you forget about waiting and spending lots of money on cocktails because that's what you go for, the food. \nWe were with friends so the wait wasn't horrible, but we both had arranged childcare and had to rush out at the end of dinner.

It was a mixed night at The Factory Kitchen. We arrived with high hopes, given that Zagat rates the restaurant in the top 20 in LA, and other than the clam ravioli which was memorable only for its dryness, the food was very good. The crispy leeks and chickpea fries were salty and delicious. We also liked the handkerchief pasta with pesto. The acorn squash was sweet and fabulous. The North Sea cod was light and fresh, despite it's long journey to our table. \n\nThe service was disappointing, in fact it felt as if we were an irritation to our server. He was MIA for most of the night and it was irritating to sit and watch him off by the bar joshing with his colleagues while our wine glasses sat empty and plates lay uncleared. Were it not for the hostess, who was fabulous, we would probably have left after the first course. The check was delivered with a flippant 'take care', no eye contact, no smile, no pleasantries. The service really spoiled our evening.

Casual, upbeat, fun to watch the kitchen. Unusual and delicious food. Corkage ($20) is reasonable. Service was very nice but too rushed. Next time, we'll ask them to slow down between courses. A little challenging to find, but truly worth it. Suggest going with four people to enjoy the variety. The two of us shared an unusually shaped stuffed pasta with veal (was enough for 4 tasting) as our first couse, then osso buco as our main with an order of charred brussel sprouts. For dessert, we shared the apple crostata and the server kindly changed out the gelato flavor to one we preferred. It was a very happy birthday!

Nice place. Excellent food. Not crowded for lunch, or maybe it was slow that day. Anyway, it was very quiet. Good for talking business. My only gripe? Why do they charge $5 for parking in their lot, when there is no viable parking on this dead end street. I didn't even use the valet, as I parked in the handicap space (yes, I have a placard). Came hear on a Sunday before Valentines day to celebrate because my GF and I have a busy week. \n\nThe valet parking ($7) went smoothly. I made a reservation for us at 6:30PM. We had to wait in the crowded bar area until about 7PM. They comped one of the pastas ($20) to compensate for the extra wait.\n\nService:\nThe waiters are nice and give good recommendations on what to order for dessert. \n\nFood:\nThe handkerchief pasta was my favorite pasta. The salmon stuffed pasta w/ clams was pretty tasty. The truffle pasta was just okay. The portions were good for splitting for two or even 3 people to try different dishes.\n\nThey ran out of the bone marrow entree so we settled for this cod dish with red potatoes. The fish was cooked tender and delicious. \n\nThe apple dessert with caramel ice cream was nice. I paired the dessert with a double shot chocolate caffeinated drink. Went well to keep me up for the drive home and till 3AM.\n\nTotal bill for 2: \n\n($140) [tax, tip, and comp deduction included]\n\nAfterthoughts:\nI would probably come back again to try some of the dishes that I didn't try and to taste the handkerchief pasta again.

Whenever I want to have pasta I come to Factory Kitchen. It's simply the best in Los Angeles. Not only are their pastas great, but their mushroom pizza is hands-down the best pizza I have ever eaten. Always a most enjoyable dining experience with outstanding selections of authentic Italian delights. The ownership and staff try very hard to please patrons and always make them feel welcome. The fresh pasta dishes are to die for and as they are made freshly just prior to cooking they have a light and pleasing feel that quickly differentiates great Italian food from places that use dried, box-style pastas. Fourth time in a few yrs. Only one, New Years Eve, was poor, and a holiday prix fixe with everyone showing up at once led to a lock down of the kitchen. Every other meal was outstanding and the service even better. Both the general manager and the owner (Mateo) stopped by the table. The portions are large, and almost all should be split. We had scottona (similar to carpaccio), prosciutto, and frittura (all appetizers). Enough food that we took half the scottona beef home for the dog. The price, including two cocktails and tax, was $98, a fantastic value for the quality. Location is great in DTLA. It is fun noisy but not oppressively loud since the ceiling is sound absorbing. We could talk easily to each other and to the staff. Very diverse diners, from 20s to 60s (us), and everyone seeming to have a good time. Much better value than many other high end DTLA restaurants (Redbird, Church and State, Faith and Flower), and the equal to Bestia.

We spent the night in downtown LA and found The Factory Kitchen by looking for Italian restaurants. It's located a bit off the beaten path in the renovated 'arts' district, but easy to find. Service was absolutely excellent and the food was delicious and interesting. We started with the cavolonero salad and the sliced beet casserole. Both were excellent; especially enjoyed the unique flavors of the beets. There were three of us and we shared three pasta dishes, our favorite being the casonzei with veal and pork sausage. But the vegetable pasta and gnocchi were excellent as well. Was the perfect amount of food and we didn't have room for dessert. If I find myself in downtown LA again, I will definitely return to the Factory Kitchen.

This is how a restaurant should be run--the food is always great, the service is friendly without being obtrusive or presumptuous, the ambience is warm, comforting, fun and modern (even within a historic building, beautifully and thoughtfully repurposed), and it starts with the front desk--where you are greeted as if the care. IF I lived closer, I'd go every week. But it's worth the drive and parking is easy at an adjaacent lot. DO NOT bother to park on the street--I thought I had a safe spot when I went there the first time but the NO PARKING sign was all the way down the block and I couldn't see it was there, let alone that it pertained to where I was. And the ticket was pricey. So pay the $5 (lunch) or $7 (dinner) for valet service in the adjacent lot--it couldn't be easier. And Factory Kitchen couldn't be more satisfying--make sure you have the envelope pasta and you'll go home happy for that alone. Otherwise, the wait staff is open to offering suggestions you can trust. So ask. You'll be glad you did.

We had arrived early and was going to sit at the bar but was placed at a table. Restaurant had less than 10% of their tables occupied and it was very early in the day. We informed the server that we would not be ordering for at least 30 minutes. We were literally interrupted every 5 minutes, after the 5th time we ordered an appetiser which was less than spectacular, each dish was mediocre. \n\nMaybe it was just an off night for them.

We've eaten here many times and the food always delicious and above par!! Our go to starters were two salads which were fine, we ordered the pizzetta and it was served to us while we still had the salads to finish and no where to put the pizzetta as the table was full. They took it away and brought it back a few minutes latter w an attitude that the chef doesn't work that way it must come out when served! We we're very disappointed with the food, the pizzetta and the hankerchief pasta w the lingurian oil was not up to the standard we're use to when dining here. One person got the scorpion fish and it was so dry it was not edible. We drive in from the San Fernando valley just to frequent this restaurant but no more, to many great places w great food!! Unfortunately they've let go of quality control. Sad!!!!

This place is awesome. I have had the pleasure of dining at the Factory Kitchen on several occasions. The food is consistently fresh and well prepared. The service is excellent. My only complaint is that you can expect to wait for a table, regardless of your reservation. I have had to wait at least 30 minutes past my reservation time on each visit. I could not love this restaurant more! Dare I say it, but everyone I have gone with says it is BETTER that Bestia!! \nThe service is amazing, the food is incredible, the ambiance is great! I have been a few times and loved it, but this past time I went, they were running a little behind schedule and sat us quite a bit after our reservation. This is something that would have tainted my experience here, but Factory Kitchen handled it like serious pros; they sent us out not 1, not 2, but 5 complimentary appetizers as an apology (way beyond what they needed to do) and had the manager come out and thank us for dinning there!\nLove love love this place!\nMake sure to get the pesto pasta, and prosciutto dish...both of which are life changing!

Good service and clearly a skilled kitchen but the 3 dishes we ordered were consistently over salted. It was our first time eating the so may have been aberration. Second time but haven't been for quite some time. Friends hadn't been and so I was happy to return having discovered both the handkerchief pasta with pesto and a now favorite Rose the first time around. \n\nThree of us went heavy on the starters and I gotta say, they really knocked it out of the park on these alone. The creamy mozzarella with beans, greens, olive oil was so deliciously simple. The way things should taste. Then the frittura of leeks and socca fries makes me want to get an entire garden box going stat with leeks (and garbanzos for that matter). The beet casserole with asiago was a great play of the sweet/salt of the beets against the cheese. And, finally, almost a signature is the loving mound of prosciutto with a lightly fried dough and another perfect dollop of cheese. I didn't get the sage in the dough but it was delicious nonetheless. We finished with the handkerchief pesto and the little pockets of sausage love with pancetta and sage. \n\nThe highest quality ingredients prepared in straightforward clean cooking allowing the food to shine. And the service was great too - warm and helpful but not cloying or obtrusive. And the front of house went above and beyond without any prompting. Made a great meal even better. Not lost on us. I will be back...far sooner this time I'll tell you that!

The Factory Kitchen totally blew me away. I had heard good things but have a gluten intolerance and though lt - this is going to be difficult. I was so completely wrong. I ate a speck wrapped swordfish that is quite simply one of the best things I've eaten. It was salty, rich and perfectly cooked. I haven't stopped thinking about since I went. My colleague had the home made pasta with pesto and raved about it. The salads (one kale, one with dates) were very delicious but not outstanding. But the swordfish made up for the excitement that lacked in the salads. And I think the same is true of the pasta.

Doesn't get much more cramped and noisy than this place on a Saturday night at 7:30pm. I suppose it's shame on me for taking my family, with two young children, here so late on a Saturday but we like good Italian food. \nIt took about 25 minutes of standing around near the front desk, being pushed repeatedly by folks trying to get to the bar, a place you should not stand with kids but there are no other options, before finally being seated--- and that's with a reservation. The din makes it tough to converse even if you lean in to talk. It's that loud.\nThe drunk ladies in the adjacent table, only about 18' away, by the way, spilled a glass of red wine and of course it splashed on our shoes. This is the kind of place where the servers won't ask if you're okay, if the wine 'got you', not because they don't care but because they can't notice above the noise and tight table spacing and general chaos of the room. \nOur server was actually quite nice--- friendly but clearly over burdened by her signed tables. The other support staff is very good, clearing plates and utensils swiftly to accommodate more plates and food, something that's key when you fine family style.\nDespite all this, the unsettling experience and ear-ringing cacophony, I have to give the food high marks for its freshness, well developed flavors and interesting variety. Well of course, who would crowd this place, a relatively uninteresting design of a dining room, an open kitchen with oddly little fragrance, an plain bar with one tv, if not for very good food?

The Factory Kitchen is a cool spot, their menu is interesting and the quality of their food overall is quite high. We would have loved our meal a lot more...but we couldn't, due to an unacceptable error that was made by their wait staff. This was a completely avoidable issue and is 100% on the FK management team for not requiring their servers be versed in the basics of food safety and customer allergy requirements.\n\nOne of our friends is VERY allergic to both nuts & shellfish, so much so that she carries an EpiPen for her condition, and we made the staff aware of that fact at the start of the meal. We ordered one of the daily special dishes, which was NOT on the menu with a full description, so we were going off the server's recommendation. We asked if there were nuts in the dish and were assured that there were not. Ok, cool. We asked again, just to be sure, when the food was due to arrive, and on our second check, we were still told that it was all good.....ok, great.\n\nFood comes....our friend digs in....BANG.....there's nuts in it. She starts breaking out.....unbelievable. \n\nAll the server had to do, ONCE, just ONCE, was go into the kitchen and verify with the Chef that it was safe, but NO, that would require work, basic accountability and the ability to admit that you don't know everything, so it didn't happen....and our friend paid the price. She went home from dinner and proceeded TO PUKE ALL NIGHT because of Factory Kitchen's negligence.\n\nTo their credit, the Manager was horrified, sent our server home for the night (I'm assuming not just for the night,) and they comped our meal, which they damn well should have, but it completely threw off our evening, which was planned well in advance, with friends coming in from out of town just for dinner, as it was my wife's birthday that night.\n\nSO.....Factory Kitchen. Your food, when safe, is incredible. However, you could have caused my friend to go to the hospital with your negligence. Get your shit together.

It's not as much a showplace as its nearby sister restaurant Officine Brera, but it's perhaps warmer and more intimate while at the same time lively and sceney in a good way. The building's industrial past has meshed nicely with the modern interiors and open kitchen. The hosts are appropriately friendly and the wait staff gave honest food recommendations and descriptions. Ours was a birthday celebration. And we had a two-year-old with us. She did very nicely on a banquette seat, though they do not have high chairs or kids menus available. But she loved the small plate of pasta they prepared. Food was uniformly savory and delicious; some found it richer than expected and couldn't finish the plate. But most important, it was a satisfying, memorable experience (with a reasonable corkage fee) and I'd go back. I might not rush back. But this is a place that should be here to stay in DTLA. I met a friend for a very early 5pm Sunday night dinner after a days work. We made a reservation although it really wasn't needed at that hour, but by the time we left, the restaurant was full. We started with dirty martinis (nicely made) and the prosciutto appetizer from the to share portion of the menu. Delicious!!! This came to the table and it looked HUGE, but it was actually somewhat light and fluffy and satisfying. Our waitress, who was super friendly, gave us suggestions. We decided to split a couple of pasta dishes, but couldn't pick only two so we shared three including the handkerchief pesto pasta that is their signature dish; very smooth pesto flavor, tasty although I wasn't blown away by it. The Gnocchi malfatti with wild boar was also very good; I preferred the gnocchi part of the dish over the boar, but my favorite was the cappelli di zucca - Roasted squash filled pasta. Oh YUM!!! This one was my favorite..a delicious buttery explosion of goodness! Loved it!!! I will absolutely go back to have this again and try some of the other dishes. Enjoy!

The location of the restaurant is unique but once you are inside, the 'factory' setting is awesome with the open kitchen and good vibe in the restaurant. All dishes ordered were exceptional and the service was awesome. Tim was a very attentive server and did a great job. In addition, whenever other waiters and/or busboys would passby, if something needed to be picked up or replenished, various people took the initiative. The manager was visible throughout the meal and greeted us upon entry and departure - great experience - well worth it

This is one of my favorite restaurants in LA. The service is the best. Our waiter kept our water glasses full, cleaned our table after each course and the food came out at reasonable times. The food is amazing. The pasta is aldente and the sauces were so good. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection.

This was my first time at Factory Kitchen, and I didn't know what to expect - parking on Friday night was easy, although they also have valet. We arrived a little early to our reservation, but were able to get some wine at the bar and sit at a bar table when another party was seated. It's a very intimate place with little embellishment, but we didn't feel cramped at our table at all. And...THE FOOD. Oh my, the food. Factory Kitchen blows Bestia out of the water, and our table was unanimous on that assessment. I'm a pasta fanatic, but you absolutely must start out with the prosciutto - it looked strange upon arrival, but every bite of the sage dough served with it was delicious. We ate the mandilli (our server told us Jonathan Gold loved it, and I can see why! Flavors were fresh and bright), modenesi (omg I wanted to eat a pound of it), and casonzei (so flavorful yet not heavy at all). All pastas were perfectly cooked and the sauces/accompaniments were perfectly proportioned. The menu changes daily, and I can't wait to go back!

Met a friend for dinner at the Factory kitchen. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and unobtrusive. So refreshing for a change. We had never been there and the waiter was very good about explaining everything on the menu that we asked about. We shared a goat cheese and date salad which was delicious....then the mushroom flat bread...it was crispy but a little to oily for my tastes. Very flavorful. Next came the ravioli filled with a variety of meats. Very tasty, a bit chewy and great flavor. Portions were not big, but adequate as everything is so very rich. Doesn't take much to get filled up. For desert we had chocolate filled creams puffs that were outstanding. I do think that it is a bit over priced for what we got.though.

We also savored this time a beet casserole, just as rich as maracroni and cheese, plus the squid salad and fish ravioli with shellfish, and a unique dessert of berries with thyme icream . All very delectible. \n\nEach time we return, we see signs of gentrification growing up around this ristorante, making us feel less like dining pioneers, yet the the chef, we're happy to report, isn't just playing it safe.

We ate an early Thursday dinner and thus able to see the staffing building up, the routines and interaction between the different positions -- the restaurant feels well-run and efficient and people looked like they were having a good time... the vibe was nice. Though the restaurant wasn't busy it still felt vibrant. Our starter was a mushroom pizza and it was delicious -- crispy and soft with lots of garlic and mushroom flavor. Then we had two pastas: the almond pesto and the sage chicken ravioli. The former was pushed as the specialty of the house, but neither disappointed. I might only add that the sage chicken ravioli came with a little too much oil in the bottom of its dish. Without asking, the server kindly split the portions because he knew we were sharing. A split main course of the cod was a nice finish to the meal. The fish was perfectly cooked and though in itself might have been slightly underseasoned, the delicious sauce underneath rounded out the meal. A side of brussels sprouts with it was only okay, wanting some more char and flavor from the bacon used in roasting. Overall, we would return to the restaurant enthusiastically.

I always start my reviews with the 'bad' news. 1) It's hidden away in the old Industrial area of downtown. 2) Nearby parking is next to zero - so be ready to valet. 3) I wouldn't just drop in without a reservation. \n\nMy wife and I just dined there for the first time last Saturday before seeing Joan Baez at the Disney. We had a 5 pm reservation when they opened. By 5:30 the place was packed and by 6 totally jammed. But there is good reason for all this...it's the food. And nice people trying make sure things work for you. There are lots of food reviews so let me just reiterate: First visit musts: the prosciutto and the handkerchief pasta. But everything we had we delicious and different. We ordered desserts. My wife asked for a 'sundae' (pachiugo) without fruit. It had fruit. I asked for the tiramisu - got bread pudding. Result - desserts comped. We will be back and bring others with us to make it easier to share more goodies.

Have been meaning to come here ever since it opened and finally had opportunity to drive in from OC. We ordered each of the items recommended on Zagat and each was just excellent. Especially loved the handkerchief pasta with almond pesto sauce and the Parma ham appetizer that was beautifully presented and just melts in your mouth. Spouse also loved his lobster ravioli. The bread pudding dessert with gelato was scrumptious with our cafe lattes to end a lovely evening. We arrived a little early and had a drink at the bar and my dry martini was perfect. Would definitely come again and try other items on their interesting menu. Not your grandma's Italian food, but you won't be disappointed. Always love the open kitchen/great room concept. Was looking forward to taking a business friend from out of town to this place. Most of our dishes were good, but the kale salad was poorly described. We had to ask for the bread three times, and it didn't arrive until after we were finished with our meal. Would have preferred the bread with our dinner. If you do make the mistake of making a reservation do so for an hour in advance of when you want to actually eat. Also, the bathrooms looked like a club at 2AM. They were a huge mess. We had dinner here on the recommendation of a friend. The food overall was good - my husband had the stuffed pasta and it was delicious. I had the signature handkerchief pasta with almond pesto sauce, and although the taste was fine, I found the dish to be too 'one note' for me. I needed more texture to offset the pasta, but the taste was good. If I were to return I probably would NOT order that dish again. The service was impeccable!!

Factory Kitchen is one of my go-to Italian restaurants in LA. Exceptional food, portions are right on, and the service is excellent. Obviously, you definitely want to get the handkerchief pasta, but there really isn't a miss on the menu. The gnocci we had was fantastic, the prosciutto with the sage bread disappeared in about 30 seconds, and the lamb meatballs were velvety (yes, velvety). \n\nWe had a bit of a snafu with our reservation and ended up getting seated almost 30 minutes late, but aside from that, I love this place and will be back again soon.

Factory Kitchen is a great new addition to the arts district. It has a very well rounded menu that hits meat eaters and also easy for a lighter bite. I thought the dishes were interesting yet also comforting. We had the mixed green salad, the focaccina calda di recco al formaggio, gnocchi malfatti, and lamb meatballs. I was bumed that the facoaccina filled me up before our main courses came out but it still was delicious none the less. We were eating here for a date before going to the arts district brewery.

We were really looking forward to coming here! I work around the corner and have been dying to go! Our server was kind of a jerk.... I asked him his opinion on a few of the dishes and he said i was picking all of his least favorites. The pesto pasta that they are known for was drenched in sauce. It was good but after a few bites I had enough. It's a super heavy meal so be prepared for that. I will say that my wine pairing was excellent and the cannoli was amazing. But I don't think I'll be going back.

The Factory Kitchen always seems to get it right, which is why I never worry about bringing friends and family here. Last Thursday night was no exception. We split four dishes and took home leftovers with no room unfortunately for their delicious cannoli. We started with the cremosella salad. My friend loves cheese and was very happy with the selection. The portions of mozzarella were large and the pea tendrils added a nice contrast. Next was the mushroom-zucchini blossom focaccina, a large flatbread stuffed with a light cheese, really yummy and perfect to share. For the main course, we ordered the barberosse gratinate, an excellent beet casserole served steaming hot with asiago cheese, and the mandilli di seta, the signature pasta. I never tire of those airy pockets with the light almond basil pesto sauce. Watching the pasta being made shortly before it's served adds a nice touch. Service was excellent, both at the bar and at the table. Friendly, helpful, efficient. The servers helped make for a great experience. I've been to many of the new Arts District restaurants and this is the one I keep coming back to. Highly recommend for fresh flavors in an historic building.

Felt like it was going to take a long time to be seated...but in fact, in 15 minutes after the reservation, we were seated at a great table that was a bit away from all the noise. Service was great. Food was just delicious. We all had a really lovely evening and can't wait to go back!

I dunno. Maybe I'm not that imaginative, but I have a hard time picturing 'elevated Italian.' Sure, I've had great Italian meals, but I almost didn't book a reservation here because I couldn't imagine how good it was going to be. And it was damn good. Located in a former factory (thus the name one would assume) with a severe but warm concrete and wood interior, The Factory Kitchen was a delight from start to finish. \n\nDrinks at the bar before we were seated were excellent craft cocktails. Then the dinner. Our sharing starter of duck egg, red potato vellutata, sautéed greens, semolina bread crostone, and speck was an umami explosion that set the tone for the rest of the meal. Their foccacina--sort of a cross between a super-thin 'stuffed crust' pizza, flatbread, and a quesadilla (all of which under sells how amazing this really was) could have been enjoyed (and hoarded) as a meal. Light, cheesy, fluffy and just damn amazing. I've never had anything like it before. Next we shared the gnocchi which was light and perfect, followed by our shared main dish of pork which was delicious, but by that point our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we really should have stopped at the gnocchi. Of course, we ordered dessert. After all that amazement we had to try the tiramisu. It was very different but also very good.\n\nA great meal. Highly recommend this place. Don't miss it.

This is a hip spot and you know it as soon as you walk in. The tables are way too crammed together and the noise level is enough to have you leave with auditory impairment. My ears were numb after leaving. BUT the food was extraordinary. The handkerchief pasta is decadent and the salads were fresh and innovative. Nothin' for vegans here, everything seems drenched in cheese and sauces but this food was very tasty and the service is attentive and as helpful as it could be with few vegetarian or vegan options. I might go back in off hours if there are any. I just cannot stand another night of that level of shouting to hear my dinner companions.

I LOVE the Factory Kitchen. I'm not a big Italian fan cause I think most places do good food so it doesn't make sense to pay tons of money for pasta I get other places. Factory Kitchen does it right. Everyone I've taken there to agrees, they have not only good food but interesting combinations, flavors and texture. Of course one must get the Mandilli Di Seta to begin with cause it's so delicate that having anything before will ruin the experience. Yummy. Another must is the Prosciutto on puff dough. Exceptional. Any of their pasta I've had so far hasn't disappointed yet as well as the fish dishes. The rabbit this last time was perfect cooked and seasoned. \n\nIf you have the fortune to get the host to come to your table and give you the recommendations, do what he/she says. The order of food counts as much as what you get.\n\nI'll return as soon as I have friends I love come visit or celebrate a birthday.

My wife and I were so very fortunate to dine here on a recent trip to L.A. We definitely made the right choice. All of the food that we had was quite simply amazing. If you have never had handkerchief pasta, then do yourself a favor and split it between two people. It is truly a treat. The salad, beet appetizer, and out entrees were all exquisite. This place is overhyped, in my opinion. I liked the 'cool industrial' vibe of its interior, but the food is overpriced and severely lacks refinement. And the service... - well it leaves much to be desired. Nevertheless, the restaurant was packed (which might explain the poor service - our waiter constantly kept forgetting things...). The place feels very noisy and busy. Not exactly the best of atmosphere for food at that price level.\n\nBut let's start with the appetizer - chicken liver pâté. It had a nice and mild taste but it was just a pot of liver pâté and some thin slices of toasted bread. Nothing else. Can we please be a little more creative than that?\n\nThen the pasta dish - Modenesi egg pasta. I do like rich (French and Italian) food, but this one was a little too much. The stuffed pasta itself was on the dry side, but drowned in too much cream and oil. The truffles on top just kicked it over the edge - and not in a good way...\n\nThen we tried the Porchetta roast, a very trendy cut of Pork these days. We've had wonderful and creative dishes involving pork belly, but the version Factory Kitchen serves is not one of them. We got a pile of 4 giant slabs of extremely fatty (and not very well seasoned) pork belly roast. The roasted fennel and root vegetables underneath were drowning in fat. I have rarely seen something as uninspiring und unappealing for the price of USD 27.\n\nTo be fair, the Pannacotta we had afterwards left us in a good place. It was excellent. \n\nMaybe we should have gone for fish dishes instead, but a place, which is that popular, should succeed on every level.

I brought a friend to the Factory Kitchen for her birthday. We had an early Saturday reservation. The tables were seated very close to each other, so when the place filled up over the course of an hour, it was almost impossible to hear each other through the din of the noise in the place. Our waiter seemed harried. We put in an order for 4 dishes. Two came fairly quickly, but he seemed to forget that we had ordered two others. We asked for the 3rd and 4th, one came, and then we had to remind him of our order for the 4th. I wondered what the system was for putting in orders. \nThe food itself was good and well-presented, but the environment was so off-putting that we left before ordering dessert, and I would never return to this place nor recommend it to others.

Waited 45 mins for a table with a reservation of 9:30. Finally got seated at 10:15. When my girlfriend (who was at a 9.5/10 of hangry at this point) went to order one of the few items that meets her dietary requirements (seared ahi), they were 'just out of it'. I imagine it was available at 9:30 when our reservation was. Was the food great...yes for sure. Did they comp two of the cheapest appetizers for us? Yes. Was it frustrating standing around for 45 mins after making a reservation so that wouldn't happen. For sure. Unfortunately, almost everyone who was there with us was in the same boat - 45 mins to an hour wait past reservation. My tip? Make your reservation for earlier than 8pm or take your time arriving for your reservation past that. Come prepared to sit at the bar for while. Management tip? This seems like a fairly easy solve. I'm happy to do a time study on capacity vs. demand and create a reservation cap based on peak hours and table flow for you. Let's make you good restaurant great.

The seafood ravioli was excellent - the pork belly was mouth wateringly good - and when was the last time you had a salad that amazed you? The frissée was just that. Yet to hear my companions, I had to put my chest in my food while craning over the table. And we were there EARLY. So, my advice? Go! Enjoy. Eat frissée and be amazed. Been to Factory Kitchen five times. The food is always outstanding. Had a res for 3 people Friday night but upon arrival we were told our table wasn't ready. We stood next to a column (there was no room at the bar) for 20 minutes while a 4 top sat empty the entire time. Also, Brian Grazer was right behind us and was of course taken right to his 4 top. I finally went to the hostess for an update and I could see the flash in her eyes she had forgotten us. She said it would be another 15 minutes for our table to open up, making a total 35 minute wait time. At that moment a communal table opened up in the bar area so we sat there instead of continuing to wait. Also, we were never entered into the computer as having arrived. I know this because today I received an opentable email asking why we didn't show up. I love the food here but this treatment gives me severe pause about going back.

The food at Factory Kitchen is fantastic. Unfortunately we ended up waiting 30+ minutes after our reservation time, which is the main cause for the lower service review. Once we finally sat down at our table we had managers and multiple other people not seeming to communicate with each other, each trying to take our order and make it right. They comped a few delicious apps and suggested we try anything we want on the menu, which was certainly appreciated, but an on time seating would have been more ideal. Love the restaurant, but think they're still getting the service side of things ironed out. The Casonzei is a must get. Prosciutto appetizer is also fantastic. Bring on the sage.

The first time here last year was fantastic. This time, however, the menu was significantly different. The veal was average, the fish wasn't fresh, the clams and mussels were over cooked, and the seared calf's liver was actually inedible. Don't know why it went downhill from the first time here but the experience was extremely poor.

Pasta here is handmade onsite and handmade means that detail-oriented pasta will be luscious and al dente. We had the veal ravioli, handkerchief pasta, and seafood ravioli. All three were absolutely delicious but the veal ravioli was the clear winner. The meat was spiced perfectly. The pesto sauce for the handkerchief pasta is almond based which is good for folks who have a pinenut/pignoli allergy. If you are STARVING, do not come here unless you are loaded and want to eat 5 different plates of pasta. If you want carbs but very sexy and carefully portioned carbs and have a hot date, then this is a great, modernized industrial place to get that upscale downtown experience. You can find parking on the street if you're lucky, but valet is suggested. If I could make a suggestion: slightly bigger portions or knock down the mid-sized plates by a dollar or two and then this would be a better value.

Next comes the pasta, I don't remember what I ordered but it was buckwheat pasta with veal or braised beef ragu and my boyfriend ordered the casonzei. Mine was all brown in colored and tasted as it looks, brown and bland. I tried my boyfriend's dish and was not all impressed either. Although food was not impressive, service was alright. I've been here many times and the food is always great. The servers are very friendly as well. The only complaint I have is that the place is a little too noise to carry on the conversation. Although it is very common among great number of foodie restaurants to have bare walls and concrete flooring, the sound just bounces off the wall, ceiling, and floor making everything louder. That makes diners to speak louder and the things get louder and louder. The place has many tables in close proximity making it difficult to have some private conversation. Well, it is not as noisy as Bottega Louie.

We were visiting from out-of-state and were fortunate enough to get reservations for a New Year's dinner. The restaurant is located in downtown LA. Valet parking available for $7, but you might be able to find street parking. Once inside, it was nice and spacious. Wait staff was spot-on. This was my third visit to The Factory Kitchen, and each time the restaurant has offered a little less sparkle. At this lunch I found the portions miserly compared to the costs. My friend's tiny portion of whitefish sitting on a tablespoon or two of chopped zucchini looked lonely on the plate for its pricey tag, as did my sticky handkerchief pasta. No garnish, no offer of bread. Both entrees were of appetizer proportion. Preciously pretentious. This is one of the best downtown LA restaurants. It's exposed ductwork and open kitchen, but still has an elegance to it that many of the others down there don't. Angelo, the chef/owner is the guy that put Valentino on the map back in the 90's (when that restaurant was killing it). After he left for northern Cal, Valentino fell off the cliff. It is so great to have him back in LA and unlike many chefs who have been cooking that long, he (or at least the staff that he has trained), is better than ever!

We eat here several times a year as we LOVE the food and it feels like being back in Italy. The foccaccina is incredibly addictive; the pastas are always excellent; and our most recent entree, lamb tongue with sausage, foie gras, lentils, and figs was absolutely terrific! Desserts can be good and we always find a wine to enjoy. Service is attentive and just right. However, in future I guess we will have to avoid coming at times when they are packed (e.g. Sunday at 6pm) because we can't take the the tinny background music on top of very energetic conversations and other restaurant noise. We were celebrating our anniversary so we chose to come for the larger menu for dinner instead of lunch, but the irritating background music made it difficult for the 2 of us to talk and just relax and enjoy the experience. I have never noticed this at lunches. Our friends agree that we are not the only ones who prefer softer background music, especially when restaurants are full. That said, we strongly recommend Factory Kitchen!!

The overall look and feel of the place is lively and fun. A bit loud, but not too bad. We started with the peperu (peppers stuffed with soft cheese). The plate was supposed to have both sweet and spicy peppers, but it only had sweet peppers. You need the spicy to counter that sweetness because, as we had it, it's just too sweet. Pasta dishes: The mandilli di seta was KILLER. This is the best pasta dish I've had in the USA since Flour & Water in SF (maybe even better). I would go back just for this dish. The soft sheets of pasta were so fluffy and satisfying it's insane. My wife's pasta, the casonzei, needs some tweaking. The pasta and filling are really yummy, but the dish is swimming in oil which is too rich and fatty. Perhaps a broth sauce would have worked better. Preserved lemon bits would go well with this dish too as it would cut the fat and compliment the filling. Our desert, the buckwheat tiramisu, was a miss. Too dense and too boozy. There was nothing tiramisu about it. Service was okay. Our waitress was very nice and friendly, but not very attentive. Our peperu arrived before our drinks. A big no-no. Also, the kitchen is firing dishes so fast that that our pasta arrived literally as we finished our peperu (and we weren't lingering over the app either). It felt like they just are cranking food out to get you out of your seat. This is a restaurant trend that really sucks.

We had the cod, which melted in our mouth along with a veal pasta, the Matradee paired our dinner with a lovely glass of red wine and topped the evening with cannoli (you must have this). WONDERFUL authentic Italian food. However I have two issues with the restaurant. The noise level is intolerable and the service was too rushed. They want you in and out asap. Granted, with that noise level, though the food tempted me to linger, I wanted to get the hell out asap as well.

Although I live and work in Santa Monica, I regularly make the trip to the Factory Kitchen and the experience keeps improving. The menu gets more innovative with each trip, with items that may be traditional in some parts of Italy, but not in L.A. Nice Italian wine list (not cheap), very professional service and a great space in (shock) an old factory building. Great to see what's happening in Downtown L.A. and this is one of the highlights.

Cool atmosphere in the arts district, with a great concept, but everything after that fell flat!\n\nThere was a limited selection on pastas, which were way over priced, and way too small in size. On top of that both my husband and I got sick that night, which I believe was from how much oil was used in all the dishes...that is even after we selected a green salad and the beets for starters - both of which were also saturated in oil.\n\nWe had a party of four, and were planning on ordering a couple bottles of wine. We asked for two samples. Our server brought back two glasses, but failed to indicated that they were two different wines. I tasted one of the two, it was satisfactory. She came back and asked which one I liked...I indicated the one I tasted, and that I wasn't aware there were two? So, which one did I taste? She re-did the process, we asked if she could wait a moment, so we were certain which wine we were tasting, and could select the wine. She told us she could not stop to help us with the wine menu to order to a bottle of wine because she had to go to another table. So, in short, the server couldn't wait about 60 - 90 seconds to select a wine - not a good sign.\n\nAlso, never had to fight to get a refills on my glass of water so much in my life!

We were looking for a different place to eat dinner after attending the Philharmonic at Disney Hall and heard about the Factory Kitchen. The restaurant was amazing! We were attended to by a great server who knew his menu inside-out. I really appreciate it when the restaurant encourages its staff to taste everything so that they can properly advise their customers. At his suggestion, we tried a number of appetizers and pastas and were not disappointed. If you enjoy sharing dishes with your friends this is the place for you! The leek fritters were fresh and slightly crunchy; the handkerchief pasta with the pesto was subtle and divine; and the mushroom flatbread/pasta was unbelievable. Don't pass up dessert; the cannoli was wonderful. Yes, I know what you're thinking, that cannoli is so pedestrian. But it was really great, especially with the edging of marmalade.

Way too loud!! Not good service. Had to text my dinner companion because of noise level. Waiter was not good. Did not smile at all and only gave one word answers. Food was just ok. Way too crowded. Bartender was rude and just stared at us. Had to flag her down even though she wasn't busy. A total let down.

It is so noisy that you should only go with someone you do not want to talk with. Or prepare to text. The least noisy place is near the restrooms.\nWe arrived early, the restaurant was empty, but as one of our party was late the hostess would not seat us. We waited at the bar (probably the most noisy part of the place). Finally seated, the service was ok. Had the fried leek and chickpea appetizer. It was pure stodge. Little bits of leek and a lot of fried batter. The chickpea sticks were better, but didn't salvage the dish. French fries might have been a better starter. Next we had the sword fish. It was dry and tasted very fishy. When I told this to the maitre d' he seemed interested, but did nothing. Brought our own wine which was delicious.

We were disappointed with our experience. After arriving 20 minutes early and being told we'd be seated closer to our reservation time (which was fine), we waited more than 40 minutes after our reservation time, only to ultimately be offered a choice between a table in the bar area, if we wanted to sit immediately, or an indefinite wait for the dining room. \n\nI wasn't impressed with the cocktail program -- weird, large drinks that weren't that great. The table service (in the bar area) was friendly but not particularly knowledgable regarding the wine list; no sommelier was offered when i asked questions about bottles. We had to work to flag people down for normal follow-on requests. \n\n We were comped a couple of things on our bill, presumably for our troubles -- which was a nice gesture -- but we neither asked for it nor were informed of it directly, so it wasn't exactly a gracious apology. \n\nThe food was pretty good but not particularly special. Overall, not feeling it. I'll give it another try if occasion merits, but I won't go out of my way for it.

Another amazing dinner at Factory Kitchen. The food is of the best quality, preparation and presentation. Portions are sizable, much larger than other LA's best. We had a four course meal each and had to bring a significant amount if food home with us. The best leftover lunch ever. Everything we had, from starter to pasta to mains was really special and crazy delicious. Too hard to chose.\n\nItems 'not to miss' would be the Pappardelle and the handkerchief pastas and almost all of the salads. \n\nMy only negative is the price $150 per person for 4 course meal + one glass of wine + one cocktail to start was high even for LA standards, but they don't compromise on volume or quality. The tables are tight and not very comfortable. Atmosphere is hip but not very romantic..... A bit too casual for an anniversary dinner.

This is in a quirky neighborhood of DTLA (Arts Brewery District), but its industrial atmosphere is what gives the restaurant its appeal. The interior is poured concrete walls, ceilings and floors warmed up with basic wood finishes and reinforces the factory feel. It's the food that is the stand out. The pasta is entirely hand made, fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the handkerchief pasta and the pizza flatbreads. The sauces are outstanding and authentically Italian. The salads are sourced from top shelf farmers. The ingredients are top shelf and easily as good as anything found in a Northern Italian city. The garbanzo bean pasta with oxtail ragu was also fabulous. Salad of pea tendrils with fresh mozzarella was so so good. Leek tempura also quite good. The Factory Kitchen is flat-out the greatest Italian restaurant in Los Angeles right now. Chef Angelo Auriana has taken authentic Italian cuisine to the next level and hits a winner with every dish I have tried. Located in the up and coming, funky former manufacturing district of downtown LA, the space is industrial yet somehow inviting and certainly very lively. The medium-sized, reasonably priced wine list by Francine Diamond-Ferdinandi is thoughtful and well selected with an assortment of mostly Italian wines with a smattering of domestic and other wines of the world. Start with the prosciutto, a large plate of 24 month aged prosciutto accompanied by burrata and a fried sage dough...easily enough for two. Or try the local calamari salad, or the brodetto, a bowl of steamed littleneck clams and mussels perfectly cooked and sauced. Next up is pasta, and the absolute must is the Mandilli de Seta, an exquisite handkerchief pasta with a truly authentic Ligurian pesto sauce. I had a version if this dish in Cinque Terre last year and I am here to tell you that this is actually the best I have ever had, period. This dish alone is worth the special trip to come to this restaurant. As for mains, every time I go I have to have the porchetta, a perfectly cooked, rolled pork belly that is so succulent and rich that it defies description. The Agnello, a seared lamb dish kind of like lamb meatballs is unbelievably flavorful. Be sure to order a couple of sides - the roasted potatoes and charred Brussels sprouts are my favorites. The only desert I have had is the Cannoli, what better way to end an authentic Italian meal than freshly made Cannolis stuffed with ricotta, orange marmalade and pistachios?\nThe front of the house is expertly run by co-owner Matteo Ferdinandi, who greets tables with charm and ease, Matteo is a true professional who clearly loves what he does.\nFactory Kitchen is outstanding & deserves a special trip if you are in the Los Angeles area.

This is foodie and grazer heaven. Skip lunch and bring your appetite. If you are four or more you will not be disappointed if you order at least 2 or 3 dishes from each menu paragraph in order to share. Each plate is deliciously hand-crafted and uniquely different. All the appetizers are divine right down to the chicken liver pate. The pasta dishes are so unique that you can safely order a different one for each person and not be overwhelmed by too much pasta. Save room for at least one main to be shared by two. The Oso Buco, which included 3 full marrow bones, was outrageous. Undoubtedly in the top five ever. The fish special was divine, a spiritual experience...light, tender, yet full flavored and satisfying. A perfect selection and inspired preparation. We booked for a table for 2 on a early weekday night, upon seated I let them know we are celebrating our anniversary and to try the place out the first time. It was early and there were only 3 tables including us and 1 guest at the bar. Serving staff were standing in groups chatting, and it remains about the same until we finished. There were multiple chances that the server or the manager can engage with us, but they chose to chat amount themselves. Bread basket was not offered but was brought to the table after we asked. Food were towards the salty side. We were still hungry but were not able to finish the food as they were so salty. The left over was boxed up. We were given a numbered card to claim our bag of left over on the way out. When we were on our way out, we gave the card to the hostess, only to be told that, 'it's right there. ' and she point to the front of the desk, on the floor, thats where our left over food is, left on the floor the whole 20 minutes, waiting for us. I was very upset, but chose to just leave as it was our anniversary and I didnt want to ruine the evening. I could easily kept the bag with me at the table. The Factory Kitchen had been highly recommended by a friend but unfortunately our experience was sub-par. Cocktails were decent, but by no means exceptional by today's standard. The starters (a salad and a flatbread) were good, but the pasta we ordered, which was supposed to be the chef's specialty, was bland and cold. We actually sent it back and the second time it was bland and warm. Visually, it was unappetizing, and when you've been steered away from another choice to try the 'specialty of the chef' you expect it to be something pretty amazing. In another situation, and at a lower price point, it still would have been a disappointment, but in this case it was a major letdown. I was hoping that our main course, braised beef cheek with marrow on polenta, would save the day, but unfortunately that was not to be the case. Again, bland. I don't know how you make braised beef cheek with bone marrow come out bland, but somehow they accomplished it. We left without trying dessert. The wines we tried were decent, but nothing special.\n\nThis place had been compared favorably to Bestia, which of course had a two month wait for a table on a Saturday night. Unfortunately the only thing that was similar to our experience with Bestia was the bill. My recommendation would be to skip The Factory Kitchen and hold out for a reservation at one of the many better restaurants in town.

Whatever words I will write will not be able to provide the required justice owed to the Factory Kitchen and her staff.\n\nAfter a long and wonderful day my girlfriend and I had out first lovely night out in months, the Factory Kitchen was a huge part of this. Upon arrival we were promptly seated with menus placed in front of us. When asked for water we answered yes and a bottle was brought to our table, more often than not the bus staff or waiter would have my glass topped off.\n\nThe first course we ordered was the Ortolana which was an amazing salad, fresh greens championed with flavors of dates and a champagne vinaigrette. Although my girlfriend wasn't too fond of the quantity of goat cheese, the flavors it produced were outstanding. We would then order Casonzei which to be quite honest seemed to ooze all of the flavors it punched with, I'd never seen this type of stuffed pasta and must learn how to make some. Our last main course was the Mandilli de Seta, a rather neon green unassuming dish, the pasta was delightful and the pesto was a complete surprise and I must say a complementing flavor to our previous dish. I paired the Casonzei with the Nero D'Avola a lovely dry red. My girlfriend paired the Mandilli with the Arneis a dry white.\n\nWe then shared a Bicerin to finish our meal, a layered espresso with chocolate on the bottom, it was rather amazing. The highlight of our weekend!

Busy, little restaurant tucked away on a former loading dock. Was noisy but never had to yell across from my date. Service was excellent and food was delicious but we did get a taste of ocean sand in the octopus dish. Overall an awesome place for special occasions. Expect to spend $100.00 but we'll worth the rich flavors in each dish.

Food was delicious. Had eaten there month or two before for lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere then--probably because it was towards the end of the lunch rush so there weren't many others there. Dinner there on a Saturday night wasn't a place for a quiet romantic dinner. Tables are close together and it was a bit loud with all the usual restaurant atmosphere.

I reserved this place for my boyfriends bday dinner date. It was just us two. He ordered a swordfish dish and I had a pork belly dish (can't remember the names) lol . The food tasted amazing , the place is modern and spacious and the service was great. \n\nI'm giving it 4 stars because I had a coupon for $20 off and I thought they didn't use it. Because i thought it would come out cheaper... So I asked if they used it and, if not, to pay again. I spoke to the manager and he was really not familiar with the open table tab process. I left thinking that I didn't get the $20 off until I got an email receipt and I found out I did which was all okay. \n\nTo sum up. I would have liked if the restaurant was a lot more aware of how to work with the open table tab. I would have left the restaurant reassured and satisfied.

1st time & I went for the hits: handkerchief pasta, all it's cracked up to be; still savoring it the next day.. Prosciutto all that, and more. Hubby & I split all plates right down the line (a pity, sigh). To the cannoli --so rich, it almost killed me. Hubby offered to eat my share right? No chocolate chips in cannoli (almost goes without say at this establishment), thank you! Great service: not too aggressive in grabbing your barely finished plates (like Republique, ahem). Families brought young children. Don't get that? Maybe for an early Mother's Day. Def a middle-aged crowd so if young & hip do Bestia nearby. I'll be back for those other pastas..

Was excited to go because I've heard great things. Unfortunately i was not blown away by the food. The acoustic in the restaurant was also not very good making for conversation to be quite challenging. Our server was incredibly attentive though.

I found factory kitchen to be a really cool and hip place to dine at. Many of the patrons were late 20s to mid 30s type. Definitely a good vibe. \n\nIn terms of the food, I honestly was not wowed by it. Let's start with the to netting. It was a well plated dish with peace shoots and thin sliced zucchini surrounded by a pepper crusted albacore cooked to perfection. However, the taste of albacore, already naturally muted, was overpowered by the greens and even the olive oil! Couldn't taste the fish if I tried.\n\nMoving on to the modensi...favorite dish of the night. Very flavorful with brightness to the prosciutto. It stood out. The gf found it a tad salty for her but I felt it was seasoned nicely. One beef with this is that it's labeled as a pasta when it's appearance is like a tortellini. Portion was small but not too small. Maybe cause I wanted more.\n\nOur other dish was the merlano. Grilled nicely with nice tasting toppings such as the grilled onions and asparagus but overall the dish seemed boring. It wasn't amazing. I didn't particularly enjoy it. I love fish too!\n\nFinally, the dessert. The gf ordered a cream puff. I've had my share of cream puffs. This, was an aspiring attempt to doing more to a cream puff than needed. The best cream puffs will have a tasty flaky crust with a light and subtle sweet cream fill...this was about average. Nothing you couldn't find at beard papa's for a few bucks. Disappointed.\n\nOverall, if you're coming here for good, I'd look elsewhere. For drinks and a cool place to chill, I'd give it a recommendation.

Visited this place to celebrate my birthday. It was a bit hard to find, but worth the drive. Hostess was busy talking with the other host and acted 'busy'. She was a bit rude in the way she told me about their restaurant's policies. My friend was running late and when I relayed that information to her, she was very abrupt in reiterating the restaurant's policy. I felt like that was unnecessary!\n\nThe food was exceptional. Nothing comes close to fresh-made, homemade pasta and pasta sauces. I ordered the Gnocchi. Shared an appetizer and ordered dessert. Also had some drinks at the bar, while waiting for my friend. \n\nGreat place for tapas-style appetizers, food-sharing, and great ingredients! Food was a bit on the higher end, but was expected with the area and presentation style. Everything we ordered were delish. However the service lacked greatly. It was a busy night but we had to struggle to get our server's attention every time we wanted more food/wine. Felt there were too many bussers compared to the number of servers. Also, despite making reservation, the 5 of us were squeezed into a table clearly meant for a party of 4...which is fine, it's a busy night, we get it. However, when the 2 seater table opened up later in the night (it was probably around 945-10pm), nobody cared to ask if we would like to get more space by adding the table. Our table was already so packed with food and wine. It would have been nice to be asked for the accommodation (and there were plenty of empty tables by this time that we knew it wasn't being saved for another reservation). The entire staff were pretty unfriendly. Not hostile either. But I got to taste one of the best pasta dishes, even better than some I had in Italy, so I'm not complaining. If my tummy is happy I'm happy. A little work to be done on their service side...

First of all I have to say that the service at Factory Kitchen is phenomenal. I can't think of another restaurant that has better service. An empty glass never goes unnoticed, new flatware comes out with each dish AND even the table is wiped down in-between. The orders came out within minutes and the owner, who was present, was pouring drinks herself, removing plates, checking in with guests, etc. Three of us dined family-style but the restaurant will also split plates and I highly recommend doing one or the other so you can try a few different dishes. \n\nWe ordered the following dishes: Pancotto - duck egg, red potato on semolina bread; good and would be great for breakfast. Tradizionale (pizza)- a variation on pizza, dough filled with soft cheese; delicious and oh-so-not-a-pizza. Ortolana (salad) - field greens, dates, goat cheese & champagne vinaigrette; fantastic, not drenched in dressing and a good portion of goat cheese. Mandilli Di Seta (pasta) - handkerchief pasta w/ pesto; I'm not a pesto fan but this was a creamy sauce vs oil-based, a must-have. Gnocchi Malfatti - Ricotta semolina dumpling (gnocchi is typically made w/ potato), mussels, langoustine, brodo; good but not our fave; will try a different dish on our next visit. For dessert: Paciugo (sundae) - the meringue and amarena cherries make this a very unique sundae. Crostata - poached pears on a baked crust, again good dish but we'll try another on our next visit. All three of us agreed, must have's are the Traditional, Ortolana, Mandrill Di Seta and the Paciugo; HOWEVER, you can not go wrong with any dish here and the atmosphere (we could see the pasta being made), no loud music so we could talk and the impeccable service had us talking all the way back to Orange County. So worth the drive.

This restaurant is almost perfect. If i was just going by the food and service it would get 10/10.\nThis is based on my second visit and the menu had changed up a bit from the previous visit a month or so before but retained some of its iconic dishes. The food is refined rustic Italian with some regional dishes one doesnt run into elsewhere..like the foccaccia which is based on the Ligurian model and comes in 3 different varieties...we ordered the one with wild mushroms and i was so happy because they were what i was hoping, lovely chanterelles!\nThe silk handkerchief past with almond pesto is a classic to order there and it is unbelievably delicious and yes the pasta is silky and the pesto perfect.....the frise salad with blood oranges incredible delicious too....i could have eaten the entire portion which like all portions is generous....\nNice competent service from our friendly wait person, and the somm. You can bring your own bottle if they do not carry it. Corkage is $20 pb.\nThe bad news points are the acoustics and the music . ......but i will still go back often in spite of this....

Things started going off the rails before we even reached the restaurant when, 15 minutes before our reservation, they sent a text telling me our table was ready and that they wouldn't be able to hold our reservation for more than 15 minutes. I certainly have no problem with that policy on a busy Saturday night but the time to send that text would have been after 5:30 if we had not yet arrived. Except that we HAD arrived there by 5:30. The text was an unnecessary stressor. The rest of the evening felt just as rushed. Plates were zapped in and out without comment. We left the restaurant with no 'thanks' or 'have a great evening' from the host stand. \n\nBut all of the above isn't even the primary reason for my low marks. Those marks are a result of the fact that we were not served the appetizer that we ordered. We had ordered the frittura - (baby leeks, beer~battered chickpea fritters). With no explanation from the server (or anyone else) what came to the table were beer battered broccolini (as far as I could tell) and, I kid you not, french fries. And not some 'fried in duck fat' version of french fries. More like the kind that you buy in the frozen food section of the grocery store. Probably to the great relief of the restaurant, we didn't even say anything when it happened. I looked at the dish a little askance when it was set down but my brain just didn't seem to be able to process the possibility that they had served us, not only an entirely different dish, but one of such low quality. It wasn't until I woke up the next morning that I realized what had happened and felt like an idiot for not having noticed in the moment.\n\nOur main entrees and dessert were adequate but not exceptional. All in all, a disappointment.

Our server was completely rude. We were new to the restaurant and he didn't even introduce us to the menu style or give us menu suggestions. We had to prompt him for everything. I did not like my drink, and he told me I had to pay more money to get a double if I didn't taste the alcohol, instead of just remaking the drink as I had asked. The fried chickpeas and leaks were full of excess grease, the kale dish was poorly seasoned, and I left the restaurant with an intense stomach ache. Cute space, just wish the service and food was better for the expensive cost. Will definitely not be back.

It had been more than a year since our last visit to Factory Kitchen. We always liked it, but just took some time off unintentionally. Everything about our Sunday evening here with friends was terrific. The server was kind and helpful with questions or suggestions. We enjoyed the stuffed peppers, the brussel sprouts, the mandilli de seta (as always), and found the gnocchi malfatti (with veal sauce and pecorino) to be outstanding. There was also a stamped pasta dish with a beef sugo that we enjoyed very much. Dessert here is more reliable than almost any L.A. restaurant I can think of. Never disappointed with desserts at Factory Kitchen. They are entirely worth the calories!

Love the food here. Come hungry and ready to share. Handkerchief pasta, cheese stuffed peppers and their version of a flat bread (it's not like a pizza!) are among the best dishes. Don't forget about the puff pastry beignets for dessert. This is not your typical 'American' Italian place - which is probably the reason it's so incredible.

The food is simply spectacular in a non flashy way. It is good solid Italian food. I have only ever had this quality in Italy itself. Pesto creamy as it should be, pasta noodle so impeccably cooked al dente, the clam and mussel in broth was the perfect amount of garlic and butter, with shellfish remaining tender not chewy and the apple tart at dessert had the best pastry shell I have ever had , light and delicate with the apple perfectly warm and a tad tart. The maitre'd was fantastic if it weren't for him I'd slam the service to smithereens. We had to insist that they slow down the arrival of 5 courses. The waiter was pathetic in his haste and no inquiry as to our enjoyment or not. But thank god for the maitre'd and the bussers, and food runners. There will be a next time but only because the food is so great.

The food was really good. The portions were a bit small, so not so great to share but gives you an excuse to order more and try different things. A piece of wire from one of those wire cleaners came out of my dish and they apologized and immediately brought out a new pasta dish... only for them to have charged me for that extra pasta. There was no communication between the wait staff as to what happened so there was a bit of confusion and fuss dealing with taking that off the bill.

We got a bottle that was sour (the cork wasn't up to snuff) and the staff was wonderful about taking it back and getting us another. The only drawback was the noise level, which was more than a bit much for a couple a bit beyond early youth...the music was heavy and extremely loud.

That green handkerchief pasta (forgot the name) is incredibly delicious. The poached pear w/ homemade caramel gelato was a perfect way to end the meal. Our waiter was so gracious, helpful with making suggestions on dinner, drinks, and dessert and even noticed when a server brought out the wrong dish before we even noticed and he told us to just keep it and brought us the correct dish. Btw, the wrong dish was actually tastier than the correct one so it was fun to pick off of both! Angelo Auriana’s kitchen puts out a delicious array of Italian treats that are a far cry from the ho-hum menus that are repeated day after day at L.A.’s countless, but all very similar Italian restaurants. No scaloppini, or pasta with ragu – no Branzino with Puttanesca sauce or Chicken Vesuvio on this menu. At Factory Kitchen, Chef Auriana’s menu is filled with not only original Northern Italian selections but with a presentation of a variety of ingredients and choices that are rarely seen around the city. It is obvious, that the Factory Kitchen team is concerned with offering its guests a genuine Italian experience focusing not only on delicious ingredients but also on unique techniques and combinations.

Appetizers and pre-entrees were creative and very good. Entrees we had were very good but my selection could have been seasoned better. The menu offers many excellent opportunities but more than one trip might be needed to sort out the truly great from less so. Overall the food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. My biggest complaint with this type of setting is the noise level. I get it that a high noise level is supposed to be 'energetic' and 'exciting,' but when you can't converse with the person across the table, it defeats the purpose of eating together. Mostly it's noisy because of the hard surfaces typical in 'factory' or 'industrial' settings, combined with the relatively high density of the patrons / tables (and who can complain about doing a brisk business?), but then on top of all the ambient noise, mostly indecipherable lo-fi music is piped in from ceiling speakers. In the restroom you can make out the playlist, and the selections were not bad, but in the restaurant proper, the 'music' merely adds a layer of unnecessary noise.

We were very impressed with The Factory Kitchen's menu, service, overall attention, and of course, the quality of what we ordered. We had a generous serving of the brodetto to start and after getting additional bread, I darn near wanted to take the left over liquid home. The mandilli di seta (handkerchief pasta) was delicate and a you-must-order-this-a- least-once dish. My gnocchi malfitti was almost as good as my Sicilian wife's (and that's saying it was fantastic!). The 'vinney's backside' cocktail was an interesting mix and was a great start to a great meal.

The wines are all Italian, reasonably priced and the choice is very good, although I'll be honest and say I am not a great follower of Italian wines. The service was great: quick, polite, efficient, however, what impressed me the most was that all that work there, from busboys, waiters through the manager, have been properly trained and show how much they like working there. Juan, one of the busboys, did nothing but promote this restaurant and the new to be opened, making sure we felt welcomed and not pushed; he knows the menu and and can recommend from it; this was the same for other busboys, not to mention the waiters - very professional. We had tickets for the Body Fine Art and Photography Competition last Saturday night and were looking for a good place for dinner nearby beforehand. Besides the extraordinary dishes coming from the kitchen and the wonderful wine selection, the vibe was just really fun and friendly and the wait staff were all very engaging and attentive. Someone we presumed to be either the manager or possibly even the owner came by the table several times to see if he could be of any assistance. Being in a service industry, this kind of personal attention always makes me really happy and appreciative because so many places of business just haven't grasped the idea of exceptional customer service, or how to create an experience for their patrons. It is a true art in and of itself and I would say they nailed it. All of this was set within a really lively and lovely environment with pleasing and unrefined cement architectural elements and big factory windows. I felt completely comfortable and their was none of that pretentious feel either with the restaurant or with the other diners there. We started with the Cremosella salad with the most glorious creamy mozzarella I have ever had, the texture was just amazing, over a perfectly dressed salad with peas, pea tendrils and green beans. We could have stopped there and been completely content. For a main course, my husband had the merluzzo, which was cooked to perfection with a fabulous sauce and crispy skin, and I had the foccacina pizzata, which was one of the most divine things I have ever put in my mouth. The waiter had come by to ask if we wanted dessert and I told him no because I just wanted to keep that taste in my mouth as long as possible. You must go to this place. It is a rare and brilliant gem, and it will leave you feeling happy and satisfied in so many ways.

The wait staff does an excellent job of helping you narrow down your ordering (narrow it down from 'I'll have one of everything' which is pretty much what I want to do everytime I go in there). The wine list is fantastic. This place is worth hoping in the car and making the drive for. \n\nDon't forget to take cash for the valet! If you like the kind of dining experience that has unusual combinations of ingredients, then this is the place for you. We were anticipating a meal that was different Italian, but not that different. That being said, this fish was fresh, the presentation pleasing, definitely farm to table cuisine. Pricey.

Factory kitchen is a great place to have a meal before attending an event downtown. Food was tasty, pastas were good, tho portions are somewhat small,, appetizers are good for sharing and the desserts were fine. I thought the handkerchief pasta was delightful, light with a great pesto sauce, also the pork belly was a good portion of food and very well seasoned.

Horrendously bad service. Lack of knowledge about the menu, ingredients, and even basic pronunciation. Rude when asked to elaborate. Wrong food brought and left at the table, twice. The waiter couldn't find a smile to save his life. Quite shocking. \n\nIn a city with a plethora of good gastronomic choices, it was disappointing to feel the malaise of expecting the entrees to carry the weight of the entire dining experience.

I dined with my husband and two friends; we ordered appetizers, entrees, sides and desserts and shared/tasted everything - and every single thing was delicious! Really great handmade pasta, yummy meats, and oh, the honey gelato!\n\nService was also excellent but unobtrusive. My water glass was never less than a third full. Great experience overall.

New favorite downtown spot! Had a business lunch here-- food and service were fantastic. The menu is filled with wonderful dishes that we had never had before and that were delicious!

Not only is the food excellent, read Jonathan Gold's review: http://www.latimes.com/food/la-fo-gold-20131214-story.html but they have a very nice cocktail menu. It does get a bit loud, which seems to be the thing these days, but the place is well worth the effort. Valet parking and street parking available.

Several people told me about the restaurant so I finally decided to check it out. Here's my take.\n\nSetting:\nI had 530pm reservations, on a Saturday evening, choosing to check it out before the dinner crowd. \nWe were seated promptly, decent table for two, server was pleasant but didn't seem into 'it', no specials mentioned (perhaps there weren't any), no bread offered (I don't need any but regardless), food was ok -creatively lacking yet it was well prepared pasta, house wine was warmer than room temp (Sangiovese), dessert was blah (their version of Tiramisu.)\n\nIf you enjoy high decibel noise and music competing for attention while you eat, this is the place.\n\nIf you enjoy being more distracted by the attentive bussers than the food, this is your place. \n\nImagine:\nUnderstandbly, my review doesn't shed much light on my experience but imagine being handed your birthday gift in a big brown cardboard box, wrapped with celophane tape, then unwrapping it, only to find you've been re-gifted. Are you excited? If so, this is your place.\n\nWould I prefer to drive 20 minutes west and eat at Mozza and be thoroughly content? Absolutely!!!\n\nAs a side note: I eat out almost everyday, can easily eat 3 main entrees at one sitting (seriously), and I spend quite a bit of $$ just trying food. My fave restuarants are Craft Steak, Le Bernandin and Jean Georges in NY, oh, and Lucques is very good too.

While the Factory Kitchen does have some delicious food, the restaurant seems understaffed. \nAfter we made a reservation and arrived a few minutes early- our table was still not ready after 20 minutes! Hard to enjoy a meal after having to wait around. The noise level is deafening, which make visiting with friends a chore.

Maybe it was an off night but I found the food to be totally underwhelming, flavorless and mediocre. \n\nI'm a big foodie and was looking forward to trying this spot that I had heard so many good things about. \n\nThe server was harried and could not be bothered spending more than three seconds at a time at the table before flying off and he had an unpleasant air. The rest of the staff was friendly and cool. \n\nPastas were a solid 'good' not great. Apps were very bland and underseasoned. All the food came within 5 mins of ordering, hot and fresh-ish, but there was no time to breathe to enjoy the meal. \n\nThe capper was the Pork Belly entree which was one of their must tries? It looked gray and boiled and then served over a dead looking melange of veg. I was kind of shocked. It was unappetizing and totally disappointing. \n\nOverall, big no for me and I would not return. My guest from the UK felt the same.

No need to worry about it being hard to get a reservation. Do what we do. When we check in for dining, we make a new reservation! There are not too many places where you can get an amazing value and a new outstanding experience each time you go. We always find the food, service and experience one of the best we have ever found. We simply love this place.

We have been wanting to try this restaurant since we heard so many great things about it. The gentleman in the bar knows the ins and outs of the restaurant. He recommended great cocktail drinks. We will definitely come back for happy hour or just some drinks at the bar.\n\nFood was good..the taste profile is there BUT it almost feels like you need to have some sort of starch or fresh salad or citrus to balance each dish. The pork belly for example, it's really yummy and was cooked perfectly but it feels like you can only eat half of it since it was too rich. The stuffed pasta was swimming in oil. \n\nOur favorites were the flatbread, stuffed peppers and the fall off the bones pork shank which was so huge and could feed 2 ppl.

We had one of the best meals here that we have had in a long time, and we've had some great meals elsewhere. Food was creative and yet absolutely delicious. Loved the chickpea/leak fritters and beet casserole. Service was spot on. The noise level was high, but it was a Saturday night in a warehouse space, so that was not surprising. An interesting mix of young, old, hipsters, society types, and everyone else in between. I'd return in a heartbeat.

We loved the food, the gnocchi malfatti (lamb) was our favorite. The mandilli is just as advertised, it melts in your mouth. We started with the cremosella which was very earthy - the pea pods and leaves were very delicate but the mozzarella was a bit bland - though we ate it all but wished there had been more pesto sauce. We also ordered the friturra which was very interesting - like french fries. It was a little salty but complimented the cremosella. The service was great and we were seated promptly. The one downside was that it was raining outside and got steamy hot inside.

My client recommended that we go to the Factory Kitchen for lunch, and this was the first time for two of us. We all raved about our food, which was exquisite though small in portion size. The focaccia is a must regardless of what you decide as an entre. This place is not cheap; lunch for three exceeded $100 without any wine. \nWhen we arrived, they could not find our reservation. Luckily, I had my OpenTable confirmation email on my cellphone. The hostess was very nice, and made room for us in a packed house. I thank her dearly for accomadating us.\nI will be back.

My sweetie took me to the Factory Kitchen for my birthday dinner, we will definitely return. The setting is lovely - rustic concrete columns paired with sleek shiny white tile. Beautiful natural wood table and nice lighting. Our waiter was very pleasant, professional, knowledgeable - both about the dishes and about wines. Other support staff were very attentive yet gentle and discreet, not at all intrusive. We loved the Corvina they poured. \n\nMy dish - a pasta pocket stuffed with beef cheeks and served in a savory beef broth, was absolutely delicious! The broth, deep, rich, layered with flavors, one of which was parmesan, I'm sure they tossed a hunk of rind into the broth while it simmered. \n\n My wife's dish - calf's liver was not so good. A plate of slabs of calf's liver, a miniscule portion of spinach (or some green veggie) and a teaspoon of what was supposed to be a yellow onion puree. The liver was undercooked, the plating looked awful, just 4 large slabs of liver - bleggh!\n\nBut, you don't measure a restaurant by one dish. We saw a abundant platter of prosciutto head out of the kitchen, the menu features all sorts of tasty treats that we want to try on a return visit.

Another great experience. Finally tried the handkerchief pasta - everyone should try this once. Soft homemade pasta with a delicious pesto sauce. Also had the veal with the tonnato sauce and it just melted in our mouths. A great combo of flavors. Bravo again, we'll keep coming back.

We went to Factory Kitchen for a long overdue date night. My wife and I love italian food and have visited Italy many times. Basically we will go just about anywhere for homemade pasta. We started with the Proscuito over a sage fried dough. This sounded super fun on the menu, but was extremely difficult to eat. The fried dough couldn't be cut through well even with the steak knife they provided. The dish was very tasty, just really difficult to eat. The next course was the pasta course. I had the hankerchief pasta and my wife had the stamped pasta with ragu. Both were perfectly cooked prepared and sauced. The sauces were both rich but did not overwhelm the delicate pasta. We were looking forward to the main courses, my wife ordered the rabbit and I ordered the cod. Both were not on the same level as the pasta. My fish was cold in the center and so rare for a whitefish-the leaves of the fish didn't even separate. The server did not offer a choice of how I would like the fish, so I assume this was the chefs intent. Cod is delicious and I tried to eat the cooked bits at the edges. My wife's rabbit was so dry despite a heavy dose of sauce that she couldn't really eat it. The sauce was also very salty and briny which didn't help the very dry rabbit. We left the vast majority of both entrees on the plate. The server offered a box but we declined, he didn't ask about the dishes. We finished with the house sorbet and gelato. Both were lovely. I would not go back here for anything but the pasta.
